Were does the new SU33 Documentation live ... I couldnt find it

the RAAF FA18A and the Canadian CF18 came with civilian ILS and VOR DME. The USN ILS control box was still present on the left hand sill panel but inoperative. The HI had ILS and VOR options which are "boxed" to select steering. The UFC was used to tune the desired ILS or VOR freq. The Navy and civilian ILS systems are totally incompatible.

Not 100% correct ..... the Early model Lightnings supplied to the RAF (from a French contract) did not have counter rotating props or turbo superchargers for that matter.

DCS 1.5.6.3690 Update 1 dor stable or openbeta version ?
IvanK replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS 2.9
the Change log says the Open Beta is now the stable version. So does that mean we should delete the previous stable version ? Leaves us with: 1.5 Open Beta .... Stable Version. 2.xx Open Alpha. Will the open beta be renamed ?? -
E-2 snaps cable! Mega save by Pilot! :)
IvanK replied to OnlyforDCS's topic in Military and Aviation
In that instant in time when the cable snaps it is the pilot and ONLY the pilot that saves the day ! Only he pushes the power up then with consummate skill milks the wing to get everything out of it as the aeroplane in that unnerving settling comes off the deck..... He is in that moment of time on his own doing his thing that he has trained for countless times. -
So I go into the registry and delete the Leatherneck entries as indicated in the PDF. All good reboot the PC then start the Open Beta. It requires me to activate my MIG21 module. Ok re activate. Then I can fly the Open Beta MIG21 all good. Jump into the DCS World 2 Open Alpha ... during loading I get the integrity error message .... exactly as before. Jump into the current release version of DCS same thing during loading I get the integrity error message for he MIG21 again. So I can now run the MIG21 in the updated Open Beta but not in Open Alpha or the release version. I cannot deactivate it in the Open Alpha or Release version either. Shambles Leatherneck what to do so I can fly the MIG21 in all 3 versions of the Sim ?

Same for me Updated Open Beta 1.5 then get presented with a dialog referring to an integrity issue with the activation key for the MIG21. Attempted retry and get presented with a second dialog box with my MIG21 activation key. Attempt to activate and I am returned to the original dialog box. So then find the link above that talks about Deactivation. Attempted to deactivate wouldn't let me do it ... since it says I can only deactivate a valid activation key !!! .... since I guess I performed the update before deactivating the module ? Next will try and do the offline deactivation. .... groan might be easier just to delete the module and be done with it. This has occurred before with updates and the MIG21 module. Having to be aware of this issue BEFORE doing an update is not really acceptable. Asking for registry edits is not acceptable for an end user either.

The subject of FAST erect buttons in the RAF on AH's was contentious at the time. This very subject is discussed in Jeffery Wellums book "First Light". In short the RAF point of view was that people could (and did) get themselves in to trouble if the AH was caged when not wings level etc as that could result in a false horizon etc. In time the RAF saw the light.

Cyrano II radar performance. Having operated it for 10 or so years I offer this. Head on look up against another Mirage III 130HCA typical pick up range was 13- to a max of 15 nm. Against F15/F111 in similar set up typically 20nm pick up. Against Canberra in same set up typical pick up range 17nm. Lo level Look down in the stern target at 500ft over the ocean fighter at 3000ft against Mirage absolute best pick up 4nm. Versus F111 best pick up 5nm. This was very demanding work requiring a lot of pilot input to both manual gain controls and lots of work moving the antenna elevation to move the main lobe. Pickups being achieved in the side lobes. Technique was to position the ground line (using tilt) to about 0.5nm further than GCI called range. Target would then appear in a clutter free side lobe. Ergonomics of the radar hand controller where however exceptionally good. in this regard it was way superior to any Mig 21 installation including the later model Bis versions. Lo level look down over land unless very very flat was virtually useless.

Manual refers to TR1196 HF radio. RAF fighter command started the transition to VHF radio in 1940. I believe the radio fitted to the Spitfire MKIX would have been the T.R.1133 VHF radio. So if correct he documentation needs to be checked. Mission Editor needs to reflect VHF frequencies. 120-124mcs AP156J spitfire MKIX Pilots notes refers to T.R.1133 VHF radio Mid 1943 the T.R.1133 had been completely superceded by the TR1143 though some fitment occurred as early as early 1941 All you want know about the T.R. 1143: http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/1601_TR1143A_Vol_1.pdf To me the Natural fit for the DCS MKIXC is the TR1143 ... no 3D modelling changes are required. (TR1196 was HF and traditionally used by Bomber/Maritime types that required long range beyond line of sight comms).

A little more to add the discussion on Starting and the Idle cut off lever position. An excerpt from the RAF Air Transport Command Ferry notes handbook (a veritable goldmine).

ASI shows instantaneous drops with application of AOA/G. This can be in the order of 50+mph. Its not energy bleed. As soon as you reduce the AOA the ASI needle jumps back to its original value. You can drive the ASI needle all over the place by just relatively minor applications of AOA/G. There is ample Spitfire cockpit video around that clearly shows this behavior is wrong. It was porked in another Sim as well .... same coder ?

TGP,HUD,Link4/Link16,Stores display,FCS display,Radar displays,BIT displays. You can display all HI symbolic data on either of the MFD's however Topo map display is restricted to the HI

Q1. UFC can be used to enter offset data. Designation of an OAP (A wypt with associated offset data) is performed by button pressing "boxing" on the HI (center MFD) or by HUD designation or radar designation.) Ofsett data similarly or by performing an Overfly update on an OAP .... point then becomes TGT. Q2.On either left or right MFD Q2.2 The centre MFD known as the HI ib the F18 can display various scales of topographic maps and other data .... yes just as "colourful" as the A10C

Still lucky .... still Fly French things :)

CptSmiley said: "In conclusion, I've reverted the FBW G-load command logic to be more like it originally was and got the thumbs up from testers. The only "negative" thing (that is also experienced with every of the FBW based sim aircraft I could find in public domain) is a very slow and gradual pitch up tendency when climbing or descending in stick neutral and no trim. This is obviously because G-load is not the same as 0 vertical body acceleration on the aircraft. " In fact this exact behavior occurs in the FA18A in real life. Its not a big deal but it was noticeable.

HAES904 your original quote was: "It's not about the numbers, but about the combat record. If the Israelis hadn't put the Mirage name on the world map, there wouldn't have been interest by other countries to even buy a Mirage" Yet South Africa took delivery of its first Mirage III's in 1962. Australia the largest foreign operator of the Mirage III* ordered its aircraft in 1960 with the first production aircraft handed over on 5 April 1963 !, The Swiss took delivery of their first development aircraft in 1961, The Pakistanis took delivery of the first aircraft in 1967. *In fact Australia was the largest foreign operator of any of the Mirage III/5/50 series

Interesting but a little research relating to Mirage III orders shows that most of the major orders were made pre 1967 and introductions into service occurred prior to 67 :)
-
True but the O was based on the E and that was the most produced of all the Mir III series :) ... but I will be happy to fly any Mirage III in DCS.

Err need to be careful here, ... but Indonesia (certainly in my time) was not considered a credible Air threat and imo still isnt .... but I think I better leave it at that :) As to their Mig21's .... well they were all being gobbled up by the the US for constant Peg !.... and most of them wernt air worthy. I recall a very bizare encounter with a couple of US Aggressor pilots who came to "visit" us at Butterworth. All seemed quite weird at the time but now we know the reason for their "visit". As to Badgers ... I might be an old fart but they preceded me :)

A couple of old VHS RAAF Mirage video. in Part 2 at 2:30 you can see an R530 launch and see what a lumbering missile it was Part1 Part2:
