You've got to keep your eye's out for them. Intel might also show them on the map. I don't think I've ever seen a helicopter system with an RWR. There's just no need for it, as you should be keeping low and using cover. Heli is NOT jet. Stay low, and COVER, COVER, COVER. Even tanks can kill you if you get too close. This what I mean when I say "Modern Battlefield". Nowday's, everything's mixed up special ops, targets of opportunity, etc. A heli pilot doesn't know what he's going to encounter. Might be Sams, Jets, who knows. And you can see the Russians thinking about this, when they made the Vhiker dual purpose against armor or air targets. If there's nothing but armor down there, you can fly high to avoid their small arms fire ( somewhat ), but anything else, stay low and keep your eye's peeled. If there's radar sam / AAA, stay at treetop and below. Use pop-up attacks against them. AAA has VERY short range, so just take them out with Vhiker or rockets at a distance. If you see launch from radar SAM, just fly behind cover or terrain. Remember, Trees are REAL now, and should provide cover. If jets are coming at you, seek any cover you can find to get out of their radar. Pretty hard to do though, I've been sniped by them even flying 5 feet above a road, between 2 story buildings. Their cannons are like continuous shotgun blasts. Try to ambush them with Vhikers as they go by your cover. Heli's are slow, and cover and distance are your friends. Can hardly wait to get AH-1W. Was watching one the other day do a popup attack on a tank. It crept up to the treeline at mid tree level. Pilot popped up above the tree level and fired TOW. Pilot stayed there till missile was about halfway to it's target, and then started to drop down behind the trees again. As he got low, he turned 90 degree and started heading out. Missile is still inbound to target! It's track by wire. And he has a WO to control it. So the WO is guiding the missile this whole time by the TV camera in it's nose. Pilot can do whatever he wants to keep them covered and safe. He was heading out behind tree cover when the missile finally hit the tank. Neat little system. I guess the wire spools from the missile? Can't see how that would work otherwise.

Sounds like your typical weapons "balancing" you get in FPS games. Make it Real ED!

Well, I for one, have already said I consider the chopper somewhat imaginary, in that there are so many prototypes of it, and it just seems to have been somewhat dumped. I'd like to see a version of what it would most likely look like if it had kept up with production of the Ka-52, which was supposed to be its Group Leader. And the beauty of this is, those who don't want this, don't have to buy it. As far as I can tell, you're going to get all the bugs fixed in the Ka-50 #25, for FREE! And people who don't like this new ED version on their servers can simply block it. So, Win / Win. ED makes more money, and continues to be solvent, and fans of the Ka-50 get an improved copter.
-
I think it was said in the Russian forums there would be no RWR. Can't remember if Chizh said it or not.
-
LOL! Yeah, I've noticed that! Shrinking the gate as small as you can seems to get a better lock. Big gate around the heli = no lock! Shkval is really screwed up. Maybe they don't want to have to come up with a real contrast system yet, but at least they could make it better than this.
-
Yep. I see it as a win / win situation. So, as to the Shkval, I guess it's somewhat realistic to 1980's standard. FLIR would be SOOOO nice. x
-
Sorry, meant to post back here earlier. My cannon is working fine, though it does appear to be having a hard time either hitting or doing damage. I spammed the crap out of an AH-1W the other day at close range, locked with the Shkval. Hit it, hit it, hit it. It put a burst into me, killing me, and then flew on by with what looked like no damage. I'll have to try this again, later.
-
I was messing with this just the other day. Turning on FD, I saw 2 "Pillars" (best I can describe it) appear on the center of the HUD. I'm assuming that's the indicator that FD is on. Plus, remember, in the broken Shark cockpit, lights off is on, and lights on is off.

They seem to still know where you are, even if your behind terrain. After I was shot down the other day, I stayed around watching the battle in the mission Battle.miz. I was watching a Russian SPA (self-propelled artillery) that was tracking an M1 tank. The SPA was behind a small shed that was about 15 feet away and in a patch of trees. He couldn't see the tank because it was blocked by the building, but I had labels on, so I could see where it was. Yet, he was tracking it, his turret moving with the path of the M1. When it cleared the building, and before it was blocked again by a tree, the SPA fired. A while back I had set up a mission to attack a vehicle base with two Mi-24's patrolling it at about 10ft above the ground. I was going to sneak up at very low level, behind some large hills, to get closer for a surprise attack. To my surprise, the copters came over the hill to attack me, even though they couldn't possibly have seen me. This is before we got solid trees, so I'll have to try it again. But I highly suspect that the enemy AI can still see through everything. They just don't fire now, if blocked. @Harlikwin - My experience is, the SAM's are the least of your problems. It's the fighters and other heli's that are deadly. I was flying a few feet above the streets between large buildings once, and an A-10 just shredded me with his gun. They can get at you no matter where you are. Battle.miz is especially bad, because it drops you (if you start flying) just a few km from 4 AH-1W attack helicopters that are on a path coming right at you. And they always seem to be more interested in you, than the tanks, if your somewhat close.

Yes, well said Dimitriov. Probably one of the better posts I've seen yet. Agree with pretty much everything you said. I've been flying sims since before Falcon III. There's ALWAYS going to be a few things that can't be quite confirmed, or were probably an educated guess. Because otherwise, the sim's gonna suck. And your going to have a lot of non-functional systems. And furthermore, those who don't want changes on the Shark, aren't going to have to pay for them. So pretty much win/win. I have to admit though, the biggest thing I have taken away from the debates here, is that my focus in change has been shifted by the arguments of others. I now think the main problem of this copter is the simulation of the Shkval. It's pretty bad. We really need to question ED in whether it is being accurately simulated. And if so, would it have been upgraded by now, like the wings? Is it this bad on the Ka-52? I can't lock up helicopters that are black outlined against a clear light blue sky, at 8km. Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, every few seconds. Nothing. And it seems to vary wildly. Sometimes, the Shkval does ok. Others, like above. Asked this in the Russian forum. 86 views but now answers. Probably because my Russian is pretty horrible. :p Though I put in English as well. Hoping for an answer from Chizh or one of the other producers, as they don't ever seem to come into the English forums. That, and we really need FLIR. There has already been the Ka-50N, Ka-50sh. And I don't want to pay for a Black Shark 4 to get it later. Love your "donation sig", Dudikoff. Maybe I should get one of those too. Then I can just buy ED. :P

Yeah, people like me just want something more modern. And that EO just grinds on my nerves. Can't even lock up a slow heli against a clear sky. 1980's tech and realistic? Or just badly simulated? And when you've got 4 AH-1Ws coming at you and your wingie, you need to be able to lock fast! :p Beginning to realize there are just too many problems with it. Too much of it. Burning out. Think I'm going to take this to the Russian thread where the ED people seem to be.
-
How realistic is the simulation of the Shkval in ED's Ka-50? It seems it would be better in real life. I know you are just locking objects, and not really using contrast, but it seems really bad. It has a hard time locking anything far, even against the clear sky. Is the real life shkval just as bad? Or is it a problem of the sim? Sorry for short and blunt, machine translation is pretty hard.
-
Just to let you know 26. Guys like you, I don't even bother reading your posts. :)
-
After playing for a few hours today, I am reminded of how bad the EO is. And I wonder is it supposed to be this bad? Is this how bad Russian EO is? I doubt that. Tired of arguing over this mess for now. And this is the only battle worthy copter in the sim.
-
Just flew it again for a while. The coptor just feels too old, and doesn't fit on a modern battlefield. This is why it gets slaughtered by AH-1W and Apache. The EO sucks, no FLIR. The two worst problems. It needs an UPGRADE. Unless ED fixes the EO / adds FLIR, I'm still kind of MEH on spending money on a BS3, which I still consider to be an experimental helicopter.
-
Yeah, a valid point, but it doesn't do much good if all you can hit are stationary targets. Most targets move, and most of those, rapidly
-
Yeah, this thing was never really "released", and suffered from just being basically left behind through the years. So, I imagine that if it had been really built, and brought up to modern standards, we would have seen a lot of what is currently on the Ka-52. Including FLIR. Come on, ED. Ka-50N, Ka-50sh. Don't know why they aren't starting there. I still have a lot of questions about whether ED's Shkval is realistic or not. Is Russian EO that bad, and is ED's Shkval being realistically simulated? If so, Ok. Well, that's realism. But it seems a LOT worse than Western EO tech, on say, the A-10C. And no FLIR? I guess if the EO is that bad in daylight, maybe FLIR is beyond Russian tech. It's the bad EO right now, not being able to lock up air targets, that is forcing us into using Iglas. Heli's are very hard to lock, and fighters are just impossible. Well, that sucks. Hope it's allowed back in the sim. That should be up to server operators whether they wish to allow it or not. I'm all for everything that's real, powerful or not. Reminds me of when they bork machine guns in FPS games, because their afraid someone might complain. x
-
Heh, yeah, I've tried that with air targets. Doesn't work well. Probably not (unless you count the Ka-50-2) If you read all the stuff Fri13 has posted, the "release" of the "production" Ka-50 never really was. It sounds like they just picked a random variation to toss out and fill a contract. Then, it was just dumped. It was just never really completed. The Ka-52 was what came out of it all, and you can see it is MILES ahead of the Ka-50. So, I consider the Ka-50 somewhat a fantasy, and if I recall correctly, it's pretty much what Chizh called it on the Russian forums. Because it was never completed. The reason we really need the igla's is because of the Shkval not being able to lock a heli unless it's very slow and close ( which usually means your dead meat ). But as Chizh also said, there will be separate tick boxes in the Special page for what you do and do not want in the upgrade. So far, it looks like it's going to be President-S, 3rd rail, and igla in the upgrade. Not sure about new pit. Haven't seen any info on that yet. And if you don't want any of that, ED said they were going to fix all the current bugs in the Ka-50 for free. So, Win/Win to some point. I just wish they would fix the Shkval contrast problem and give us FLIR ball as well, for night attack. x
-
It's in the Russian forum. Chizh confirmed 3 pylons and Igla. Unfortunately, he also said no FLIR is planned at this time. So far, it is just President-S, 3 pylons, and Igla. He didn't say if larger wing or not. REALLY would like to see the EO Contrast lock fixed. I'm guessing were getting the Igla's because it's something they can't do quickly. Or maybe don't plan on doing. R-73 not being implemented, which I'm glad, because I thought that un-realistic, for the same reason Chizh points out. It's on this page, near the bottom. Use Google or Yandex Translate to read. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=242082&page=12 Yeah, we need to really start looking at the Russian side of the forums. Seems that's where all the stuffs being debated and cooked up. I've learned, the trick to making a Russian post that the Ruskies can actually read, is first make a whole sentence, paragraph, etc in Yandex translate. Now copy it to notepad or some like program, then get Yandex Translate to translate it to English. You'll see some bad parts that are gibberish. Now type in to Yandex Translate single word by single word what it should have been, and cut and paste into whats in notepad to correct it all. Now, you should have something the Ruskies can make sense of. :p At least I hope they can read it, only Chizh has answered me so far, and I know he can read English. I also post in English above it for all who can read English. I admit I'm torn by this decision. I think it is correct to give the Ka-52 wing to the Ka-50, because it's only a few inches wider, which I doubt affects anything tactical, giving it more capability. It also doesn't make sense production wise to have to make two different wings for literally the same helicopter. So, I think if there had been standard production of Ka-50, this would have happened. However, I think this is a crutch for ED to push fixing the EO contrast problem down the road. Hopefully, with F-18 and F-16 systems development, this will be solved soon. Ka-50 also ABSOLUTELY needs the FLIR ball, as why would you have it on the Ka-52, which is leading the group, and not on the Ka-50? Without FLIR on the Ka-50, how can the Ka-52 pass off targets to it, at night? The Ka-50 is blind! Is RL Russian FLIR and EO so bad as to be near useless? x
-
Lol, if you flew the Shark, you would know it is anything BUT "God Mode". THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! Unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath. So I'll take the Iglas. Plus, they are good to have when it's really up close, or your surprised coming around a blind corner or such. Much faster than trying to lock with the cannon (Again, I don't trust the EO). Agree that the Vhiker is nice because of it's jam proofing, but it's dependency on the EO makes it worthless.

Pretty Lame argument. You know full well the Ka-50 never really left experimental state. A few of a randomly chosen version were pushed out just to fulfill a contract, then the project was DUMPED. There is no doubt what the final F-15, F-16, F-18 state is, as TONS of them were made. Even the Ka-52 seems to have a rather final Version / Block / Whatever. We know that the Apache and Cobra can carry Aim-9L, Sidearm, and Stinger missiles on side rails. The Ka-50, is a mystery. There never was any FINAL product. Only the Ka-52, which has 3rd rail, iglas, and FLIR. Whether the final Ka-50 version would have had RWR, Chaff, Radar, etc., I'll leave to others. Anyway, looks like Chiz is saying the Ka-50ED is going to be made (from the Russian forums), since he (and I guess other's in ED) see it as still experimental, and they are just going to try and wrap it up to what should have been a final product. Hopefully, we'll get an AI Ka-52 to head it all up as well. Purportedly, it will be tick off boxes in the Special section of Options, what is allowed on the copter. People can use it, or not, as they see fit. After 11 years, I'm just sick of this problem. Nice to see a Final Solution.
-
My thought is, how low can you launch an R-73? Plus, I would like carrying igla's far more, since I can carry a lot of them, and spam a few at a time at an attacker, giving me the time to bolt for cover. Моя мысль, Как низко вы можете запуск R-73? Кроме того, я хотел бы нести иглу намного больше, так как я могу нести их много, и спамить несколько за раз у нападающего, давая мне время убежать в укрытие.
-
Yeah, I like to stay in realism. It's why I don't tick the "Rudder Trim" option on the Special page. Dam thing kicks like a mule sometimes, but it's not realistic. I still haven't even added "trimmer reset", as I know there is not one on the Real Ka-50. However, there may be both of these on one of the prototypes. That's the problem. We just don't know. I still feel the Ka-50 got DUMPED. It appears because of a fight over Generals wanting to continue funding the Mi-28N (because their cousin is in charge of the company making it. ) The Kamov is clearly superior. The Ka-52 was supposed to be the Group Leader for a pack of Ka-50's, but they made far more Ka-52's than they made Ka-50s! It's a MESS. Again, we don't know what other prototypes were made, all we can see is the end result Ka-52, which is FAR, FAR more modern than that 1990's Ka-50. Now, Fri shows us there are even other cockpits, some with mystery boxes tied on the side of the hud. At least one knowledgeable individual in the Russian forums thinks a certain one was made to launch iglas, and I agree. So, all people like me can do, after 11 years of complaining, is throw up our hands, and just make our own, as close to realism as possible. We have to think how it would change if Russia had made a MODERN Ka-50 to match the Modern Ka-52. To me, that would be the longer wing and third rail, FLIR on the ball turret under the Shkval, and Igla's for AA defense. We have to do this, because we are coming up against Western AI helicopters that are far superior to the Ka-50 #25, and can blow us out of the sky (Not to mention F-18, F-16, etc, that can pick us off like a fish in a barrel). There are 4 AH-1W's in the Battle.miz mission, and they get me and my wingy everytime. And Apache's are FAR worse. It's not a fair fight. We need a MODERN Russian heli that can take them on. And considering we don't have any Ka-52 to help us, it appears this copter is slated for "Special Missions". So, it needs to be able to REALLY Fight. And since were digging into changes into ED, I would like to see better terrain in the maps. Not just a more "Arma" like World, but a more "Crysis" like World. Sorry for the other game names, but I have to compare to something. Just in a few spots in the map, or even on their own small islands. Then we can bring vehicle modules, and FPS into this "World". The Modern World is no longer the Cold War. It's a lot more "Special Forces" and "Terrorist Cells" these days. Would be awesome flying a Ka-50 in CAS of an Alpha Team raiding a Castle or Industrial Complex. Complex battles in tight city streets. Enter-able buildings that snipers and A-A Specialists can fire from. Hopefully, in the future.
