Best Controller For F-18 and F-14
3WA replied to Teriander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can get a Logitech Rhino X-56 for about $250. Some people like them, some don't. Pretty much your cheapest and most general option. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Throttle-Simulation-Controller-Gaming/dp/B079P6SSHP/ref=pd_day0_hl_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B079P6SSHP&pd_rd_r=b0e490f1-0d98-11e9-ba5f-4d00cf6be912&pd_rd_w=8JApj&pd_rd_wg=brtbW&pf_rd_p=ad07871c-e646-4161-82c7-5ed0d4c85b07&pf_rd_r=VA0XR4038SBRZHYBA6XR&psc=1&refRID=VA0XR4038SBRZHYBA6XR Virpil and VKB sticks are about the same ( and hard to get ). The only other throttle besides Logitech or Thrustmaster is one Virpil just came out with. To me, it looks a little more F-18 like. Unfortunately, these guys are the most expensive, and usually sold out until the next batch. https://vkbcontrollers.com/ https://virpil.com/en/ -
F/A18E/F Super Hornets block 1 and BLock 2 E/F ( lot 26)
3WA replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This. We can wish for whatever we want, BUT.... Would like to see it as an AI though, if you can guess at it's capabilities. Looks like everything's going to be replaced by F-35. Not that I agree everything should be. I know they want to kill the A-10, but it's a TOTALLY different aircraft. They should all be transferred to Army and Marine Aviation. -
And there's other tiny bugs, but I can't remember them, because I haven't flown the beast in a while. I remember something about ILS... long ago.

Lol, yeah, you'll notice if your AP channels are off. You're copter will fight you like a bucking bronco. They also go off automatically if your 4 meters? above the ground. Something like that. You'll notice the helicopter start being less stable, and if you look at your AP channels, you'll notice they've shut off.
-
About the trimmer button. HOLD IT DOWN. Then, keeping it held down, change the position of the heli to where you want it, then WHEN IT IS STABLE, release the trimmer button. Also, as someone above said, the button lights are now reversed ( a bug ), and AP is now on when they are dark. Auto Hover only works when you are moving less than 10 km/hr. Turn to target I'm not so sure about. I never use it. There are bugs with the Shkval right now. Wags says they are working on a new cockpit for the Ka-50 and A-10C. You don't really need turn to target. Just trim the copter to level and stable ( doesn't need to be hovering ). Lock your target in the shkval, now select Vhikers. You'll see the larger launch circle. Slowly yaw until the small targeting circle nestles within the large circle. You should see a C appear at the bottom of your hud, which means you are clear to launch. Fire. Now just keep the target within your shkval, and the weapon guidance system will do the rest. You can now do slight maneuvers as long as the shkval camera can still see the target. Same applies to air targets, but you want to select "air target" or "head on air target" fusing. Heli's are a somewhat hard to lock, and jets are near impossible, because they are so fast. One thing you can do in an emergency against these, is launch without a lock. If you can't lock it soon after launch, just use your switch to keep the lock gates over the target as best you can. If the missile made it into the laser guidance cone, it should keep homing. Keep hitting lock after you see the laser cooling count down, to fire the laser again, and get a new distance reading, as this is critical to where your missile ends up. This doesn't seem to work that great. I've seen near hits on jets coming head on at me, but it seemed the explosion was too far away to effect it. However, it might cause them to veer off the attack on you. Another thing, if you have a non-FFB joystick ( 99% of the them ), in your Ka-50 setting screen, you need to select the non-FSB joystick setting where the joystick will do nothing after trimming until you let it go back to center. There are three options ( default, non-ffb centering [ or something like that], or ffb with no springs ). Set it to non-ffb centering. Otherwise, it thinks you have a FFB joystick that centers on trimmer click, and when you let off the trimmer, it will instantly do whatever you have the joystick set to do ( dive, bank, etc. ).

Well, the best VR I have heard of yet is the Pimax 8k. I think it's 4k on each eye. Not sure how much they are asking for it. Yeah, the videos I have seen of DCS in VR didn't look very good.
-
Cheer up. Wags says new cockpits are coming for A-10C and Ka-50. Should clear a lot of stuff up. Yeah, my A-10 cockpit's a little blurry too. Just got to wait and see what the new cockpit's going to look like. Then go from there. Should be better, because a lot of VR users are complaining they can't read some of the panels. And VR is becoming a big thing.

When your racing 10 feet above the ground, headed at some tanks, it doesn't feel so slow.

As Donkey said, TV's are cheap. Always go with a monitor if you can. @Webweaver - Nice! Hopefully TV's are getting better.

Yeah, your rotors aren't pushing any air, so they just spin flatly, safely away from each other. It's pulling out of that high speed dive you have to watch out for. That's when it gets dangerous. SLOWLY level out and SLOWLY start increasing the collective, giving the minimum collective you can. Even flat, your blades seem to act as a giant wing, giving you some lift ( especially at high speed ). So, you don't really have to give it too much collective or too fast.
-
When you dive at a steep angle, floor your collective to flatten the blades so they aren't grabbing air. It will smooth things out and keep you from ripping your blades off or crossing them. Yeah, the shaking cockpit is a big sign of VRS. It happens when you drop the helicopter vertically at over 10 meters / second. Your falling into your own downwash, so there's no stable air for the rotors to push on.

Fixed it for ya. :music_whistling:

Wags just said yesterday that a cockpit update is in the works. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729587#post3729587

some trees / groups of them / bushes placable via mission editor
3WA replied to flanker1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm looking for a full blown editor where we can put in our own 3D objects, trees, etc. I would also like to be able to morph the map terrain itself, as it's kind of straight and bland, but I know that's reaching. -
Wags just mentioned in another post they are working on updates for Ka-50 and A-10 cockpits. So hopefully out soon, and fixes all the bugs. Have to wait, but at least we know now that they're working on it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729587#post3729587

Good news! Hopefully that fixes all the little bugs. God Speed!

TRIM: 'Default' & 'Central' mode are behaving identically
3WA replied to Lixma 06's topic in Bugs and Problems
I was having problems too. But ever since I started holding down the trimmer button, moving the shark to where I wanted, stabilizing, and then releasing the trimmer button, it now works. I've noticed several times that when I didn't return the cyclic back to center again, it had no input until I did. So, it looks like it doesn't work unless you use the "hold trimmer button down" method of trimming. -
Correction. Make CA into Arma2 with ACE mod WITH THE HUGE DCS MAPS! Really, we just need a few detailed arma style spots on the DCS maps, doesn't have to be the whole map at all. DCS maps just tend to get bland. They need to be more like Arma, where you have an interesting detailed building, castle, laboratory, or other landmark once in a while. A more detailed village in a few spots that can be used for FPS. The DCS maps are great for flight sim ( I love the winding rivers, roads, and railroads ), but if we are ever to get some FPS in here, you need a few detailed spots for it. And if you want to make money, FPS in a flight sim would draw in a LOT of old FPS players. This is what we always dreamed of. We had realistic FPS down near perfect, but we couldn't get the realistic vehicles or aircraft. Plus, we wanted bigger maps for the vehicles and aircraft. DCS has what we always wanted.

Auto Hover and Turn on target not working properly...
3WA replied to Hoggorm's topic in Bugs and Problems
Lol, yeah, like I said to Weta43, this debates been going on since the Shark came out. I think it's finally getting clear. I would use FD when I'm doing hard maneuvering, as I really have no need for AP then, and I wouldn't be fighting it, which should actually then give an even greater envelope of control ( no negative feedback from the AP ). I guess the only question I have left on the AP, is should I trim when I'm using FD? Would it do anything? Would errors build in the AP if I don't, since technically it's still on, adding stabilization control? -
Some of the default keys have changed. You just have to look up the new ones.

I know it's not the GPU on mine, because when it goes ballistic, you can hear it. I re-encode blurays to max compression to stick them in my library, and it boosts my gpu and cpu to maximum levels. The CPU and GPU fans speed up to roaring levels of sound. I don't hear this when I'm running DCS: World. Everything seems pretty normal. So, at least for me, I don't think that's it.

Way to Fix the Anti-Collision Light for Ka-50 and others...
3WA replied to JOKERACTS's topic in Bugs and Problems
You can edit the hlsl files with Virtual Studio, though I don't understand how they work. I have a feeling the bugs are in the new engine itself, not the shader files. It seems like the light is ignoring the collision maps of the model, but I don't know how shaders deal with that. -

3WA replied to JOKERACTS's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good find, Joker! I think your right. I know there has been a lot of talk about deferred shaders and problems with them. I would have thought it would be problems with the model too, maybe textures or collision map. -
TRIM: 'Default' & 'Central' mode are behaving identically
3WA replied to Lixma 06's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, your right. Figured it out last night. So hopefully, now all we need is a new cockpit, and a better shkval.
