  1. this has been reported before, and marked as a bug in the 18 forums, but it's such an easy fix... low hanging fruit for ED on this one. The F-14 has a much lower dispersion, yet it's the same gun as the 18, 15, and soon to be 16... it's so easy to fix this it's insane.
  2. those are all great questions. I'm at work. you should do some testing yourself and post back in this thread. I just raised the flag beacuse I clearly saw R-27's guiding without the launching aircraft maintaining lock.
  3. How? Without concentrated radar energy bouncing off the target, there should be nothing for the missile seeker to see... so it should stop guiding immediately.
  4. The bug is quite simple, the R-27R guides without radar lock, as seen in the video above. The Mig-29 is heading away from the F-18 and the missle is still tracking... fairly obvious. I'm not sure how a track would help, but I'll try to get one. It was recorded on OB patch yesterday in a MP mission. I'll try to get a track tonight.
  5. Yeah, I'd like to make some really sweet tomcat vids, but right now the only way to really get good footage is to record it with a friend, and that's not very efficient.
  6. Turn rate at low speed is your advantage, vertical fights are difficult to maintain best corner speed. I would start by trying to maximize your turn rate in a flat turn, then try to replicate that turn in the vertical... basically, release stick pressure on your climb to maintain your speed, and pull harder on the descent. Doing that a bunch will help you in a gun fight... literally flying circles and getting a feel for her best AOA given different air speeds and orientations. Consistency in your speed / AOA and not getting too slow on accident are keys to winning gun fights.
  7. Unless you have the AIM-7 selected.
  8. I find this comment strange... like hahaha he knows things you don't, and he just wants you to know that he does, but won't share... really weird, man, and not at all in the spirit of these forums.
  9. Great! Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that this evening.
  10. Teamwork makes the dream work. Learning as a team is difficult to do because the drills that a pilot does to learn how to fly are very different from the drills a RIO should do to learn the efficient manipulation of sensor and weapons systems. for example, i regularly fly in very tight circles at varying speeds for like 15 - 20 minutes at a time to get a feel for best corner performance and how the 14 feels at high AOA... that's not really a drill the RIO needs to come along for... same with CASE 1 landing training. RIO would get bored. And vice versa... a RIO in training just needs the pilot to fly in a straight line while he does stuff to the weapons and radar systems.... kinda boring for the pilot. Both pilots and RIOs should train offline doing drills to learn the skills they need to be good teammates. but that's just my 2 cents.
  11. Do you mean the tracks that are recorded by the server itself? Or tracks you record while on a multiplayer server?
  12. I've died as a pilot in MP and RIO survived... but not for long :) What the other clients see, what the server sees, and what the client flying the aircraft sees can all be completely different because of how the netcode works.
  13. Wonder what the hourly rate is... Do you even lift? :pilotfly:
  14. I've only gotten a few tracks of the 14 to work... 99% of the time they're completely out of sync with any other units, especially AI ones. You can see the desync live in MP serers if you watch an F-14 GBU a moving target... from the 3rd party perspective, it'll look like it lands way behind it, but from the client dropping the bomb perspective, it'll be a direct hit... server-client desync is really weird and does really weird things to tracks when it comes to the F-14.
  15. I too am blown away by the level of detail in this module. It has the detail of a Dickens novel, but it's actually fun to read :) In multiplayer last night, after a stored heading alignment, I took off from the Stennis, and my indicated heading was off by 40 degrees from the F-10 map. It corrected itself after a while, but that seemed like a large deviation. I'll play around with the compass settings (switching to DG) and fast slaving, but is that 40 degrees offset really working as intended?
  16. Multiplayer server-client desync rears its ugly head in many ways. I doubt this is just an F-14 thing.
  17. In the image above you can see pings to most of my favorite servers highlighted in red. Most of them are NA servers, as I'm in the southestern part of the US. The issue I'm having is that my actual ping to most of these servers is closer to 50 - 80 ms when I'm in them flying around, but in the server list they're often over 500 ms. It should also be noted, that the NA TAW servers have grossly different ping times, but they're all the same physical server... you'd think they'd have the same ping time, or at least very similar. Also, turning on my VPN yields a more normalized ping list. Usually, in most games, turning on my VPN adds a little bit to ping times, but in this case, it reduces them dramatically. I have no idea why this happens... maybe my ISP doesn't like the master server? VPN ON server list below:
  18. This. 100% this. And it's a simple lua fix. #lowhangingfruit
  19. Sorry, but no. This will not stay on the gimbal, and you'll be taking it apart again within a day.
  20. Pretty typical response... but if it was so easy to find, I'd have already found it. If you have the pre 80's f-14A NATOPS that has the answer to my question, then by all means, pass it along (that's forum rules compliant of course). But i reckon you don't. @SGT Pappy, yeah, wikipedia says the F-110 is a 30% thrust upgrade, but there's no way... 12-15% maybe (and minus all the compressor stalls)... I'm curious what HB has to say about this.
  21. My question is, what is the thrust of a TF30 at full afterburner on a test stand (not moving), and what is the thrust of a TF30 at full afterburner as the aircraft approaches and exceeds mach 1? Wikipedia and a few other sites state that the TF30 made about 20,840 lbs of thrust, while the F-110-400 made around 30,000 lbs of thrust... but I suspect that's comparing apples to oranges. The F-110-400 only made about 23,400 lbs of thrust on the stand, and only rose to 30k lbs. as the aircraft approached mach 1. I've heard that the TF30 made closer to 27,000 lbs of thrust at mach 1, but I'm wondering if that is accurate.
  22. Pretty standard for multiplayer servers to be able to take screenshots. My guess is the GDPR is requiring disclosure. Probably not a good idea to have a text file with your bank login and passwords open in the back ground or on another monitor. Even if you did, chances of a server admin being malevolent are slim.
  23. LeCuvier: "Hey, Chief! Is this thing damaged?" Chief: <kicks tires> Chief: <taps canopy> Chief: <leans in toward LeCuvier> "This baby can hold so many JDAMs"
