  1. honestly, I felt the same way originaly...I'm a bit of a buttonologist , and not really a "flying sensation" type of guy. But....I gotta say, so far I'm converted.... I think you'll have one go at it at a mates place (or try the demo or something) and be hooked... I've gone from being a " hmm..ok well...hurry up and get past it" when it was announced , to being "This thing is awesome, can't wait till it is at release!" now. it is a genuine challenge to fly (let alone fight), and there is a lot more variables to worry about in flight that you would think. just wait
  2. Why artificially separate them though? you are welcome to play DCS:P51D any way you like...if you want to restrict you experience of the game in that way, then great :)...I'm sure you most people will do the same...but there's no need for the Devs to enforce it
  3. the Mi24 was on the list of "airframes currently at some stage of pre-development" that ED talked about a few years back..it could totaly happen.. also on that list were: Mig29a, F16, AH64a ... can't remember now the rest, but yeah....its definately possible.
  4. well..the KA50 looks like it was made in the 1960's :P
  5. Yo Mo!.I am dormant..I am now a full time Dad :) I still lurk about though.
  6. It's early days yet, but, IMHO the Pony should be (and is likely to be) the base flight platform for learning to fly fixed wing in DCS. ...every squad is going to put this as their UPT platform IMHO ...
  7. ...gosh, imagine the furor if ED announce the next DCS vehicle isn't even an aircraft :P ...oh that's right, combined arms.. ED are thinking outside of the box, and you guys should as well when imagining what might be coming from DCS.... It's always been envisioned as a "total battlefield" simulation experience...why get hung up on whether its a fast jet with buttons and screens or a WWII fighter with cable based flight systems and a MAD tendancy to try and kill you. Its a battlefield simulation full stop...next could be anything on the battlefield, sea air or land.
  8. Hi Agiel, It would be against the terms and conditions, and would also breach copywrite ...the sounds and images of the game are owned by ED. I'm sure no one would care if you modded your own TF2 to use whatever, but distributing the sounds as part of a mod would cross a line for sure I'm afraid.
  9. Hi Paul, Unfortunately there have been quite a few key name changes between those versions, so your safest bet is to uninstall 1109, and also remove / rename the c:\users\xxx\saved games\A10 Warthog directory. what you can do is, before uninstalling 1109, save the current controller profile as text.. you can then at least open that text file / lua file and see what was set to what while you are re-binding in 1111 Good luck
  10. easiest is to create (and host) your own mission. open the ME Select the Aircraft button Click twice near an airfield (create to aircraft) Select each aircraft and set to AI "Client" , type "A10c", first waypoint "Takeoff from ramp" or "takeoff from runway". Then one of you needs to host it and the other connects (might need to forward some ports on your router / firewall)
  11. Well done ED Best Vehicle Simulation of 2011 DCS: A-10C Warthog Runners-Up: Take On Helicopters Best Simulation / Sandbox of 2011 DCS: A-10C Warthog Runners-Up: Minecraft, From Dust, Take on Helicopters http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/features/63475/2011-Readers-Choice-Award-Winners
  12. Hi Madfish, The Upgrade edition was released to allow for owners of BS1 to get the game at a discounted price (as I'm sure you know)... the BS2 installer is looking for the presence of a registry set that indicates a BS1 activated install.... If you have an upgrade key, you will always need an activated BS1 key if you wish to install BS2... Having said that, it should be possible to export the relevant registry keys that match your hardware code to the BS1 serial, and make sure to have those imported at the time of BS2 install...but it's probably just easier to keep track of your BS1 activation. As long as you dont cross the starforce hardware change threshold, the activation should remain valid....the physical BS1 files are not referenced at all. Having a BS1 key / activation process during the BS2 Upgrade install would have been a good idea, but I do not believe this will happen going forward...the upgrade edition was a compromise. For combined arms, you know as much as anyone on the topic...and until ED release more info, there is only speculation. My guess is that it will function as a separate install (like BS, A10 and FC2) , but purely speculation. Sorry, not much help in my post...
  13. I just played the missions and read the briefings and tried to understand what needed to be done.
  14. yes, the armoured elements will message to indicate they have reached theirfirst and second objectives....you will not get a "mission completed RTB" though. (you will for the .2 missions, where you haveto destroy a specific object) Like I say it can take some time..the best way to track them is to hit F10 and slet the units...you will see their intended route and progress.....they drive quite slowly
  15. Hi Rico, It depends on which mission / campaign to be honest, because its down to how the missions are designed. If you take the Georgian Hammer campaign, the basic workflow (for the .1 missions anyway) is this: - your objective is to CAS for 2 moving elements of armored vehicles, so you should understand 1) where they start, and 2) where they are going too....so you must check the "missions planning" before starting (or use F10 ingame) to determine the initial location and intended path of the elements you are defending. - Get airborne and head to the IP... - Asses the location of enemy Air defense threats / air threats by using your RWR and your AWACS... - if there are immediate threat in the Area (SAM spikes, or closing bandits), then use your F10 radio menu to call in the appropriate support (SEAD for SAM threats, CAP for air threats). - Once you feel relatively safe at the IP (and probing slightly, but not too far north), check in with the appropriate JTAC (depending on where the friendly ground units will go shold determine which area JTAC you check in with) - Complete the JTAC missions as best as possible ... Make sure you also use your wingmans weapons. - Once the "path" is clear of enemy tanks etc, use your F10 menu to request the friendly units begin to advance. - Rince and repeat for the second phase (the units will stop at a mid point, and you will need to clear and then request that they advance again) - Keep your eye out for moving armor approaching the friendly units...if necessary call in the F10 CAS units to assist. It can take over 1 hour to complete this type of mission...the mission is successful when both friendly armored units reach their goal without being destroyed. The key things for these missions are: - to use your wingman...you will not have enough ammo to complete solo - to use the support flights when necessary (the SEAD, CAP and CAS flights on standby really can make the difference) - you can keep you eye on the friendly unit progress using the F10 map (some people consider this cheating, but I don't)
  16. Semantics! Also, the best way to troubleshoot Axis issues is to turn on the Axis guides in game (ctrl-enter) , then you can see exactly what values are beeing input when you move an axis.
  17. See, fantastic the level of detail modeled in DCS, even down to the inevitable "lost in translation" between a briefing in Metric and a system that takes Imperial...love it!
  18. nice work on getting the warthog straight up tho + trackir ... definitely straight into the deep end!.. good move!
  19. attacking AAA with anything less than standoff is suicide .... no A10 pilot would do this IRL.
  20. - Yes, the X52 will be fine (though, of course, the warthog will be better!) I think probably the largest proportion of people on this board use an X52..I use an X52 and it is great. - You don't "need" rudder pedals...though they are of course usefull (especially for the Shark), but the twist grip on the X52 will make a perfectly fine rudder axis once you get used to it. - TrackIR is the "must" have IMHO...just only behind a HOTAS (such as the x52) in importance... aim to get this !... The TrackIr can operate in 2 modes, 1 that uses IR LED's attached to your head (active tracking, this is the thing attached to you headset), and one that uses IR reflectors attached to your head (passive, this is why you see pictures of people wearing caps with white tape on them) ... both work fine, though in an environment where there is a lot of background IR sources (TV, windows etc..) the Active mode will work better.... You can definately play without Trackir for a bit...but once you have it, you will NEVER be able to play without it again ;)

  22. Hi Artmis, Similar setup to mine, and runs fine (although I use 64bit Win7 vs 32bit XP) Good luck!
  23. I'd also suggest "A10s over Kosovo" for excellent amount of detail, including the ferry flights to and from. Also "A Nightmares Prayer"...not A10s (Marine AV8B's) but still fascinating!
