  1. ..they are already available, that is how Luckybob started out on building Nellis in the first place :) (not freely available to all and sundry mind, but available with an agreement from ED) There are at least 2 other terrain projects going on that I know of by members of the community...
  2. don't forget, Nellis will be the first new full terrain map the ED have ever released....so even if the idea of the location doesn't excite you, surely the fact that it is an opening move for a new branch of tech for the DCS world must ..if Nellis + area is successful, imagine what else might be in the pipeline...
  3. It used to do this in 1106, 1007 and possibly 1108, but has definitely been fixed...there should be no power loss to the CDU if you switch on the Engine generators after engine start ...are you sure you are running teh latest patch? *edit* oh yes, sorry, I just re-read your post properly... Yes the engines should be at nominal RPM before engaging the Generators ....if it cuts out when you engage them before nominal RPM is achieved (but have the APU generator running) that could be a bug. It is also acceptable to have the generator switch on before engine start, and I believe the crew chiefs on the board have indicated that this is one of the cockpit switch checks they do while prepping an A10.
  4. its fine to switch your generators on after startup, just don't turn off the APU generator until they are on...an alarm will sound indicating both the APU and engine generators are on, and it will stop once you turn off the APU generator.
  5. still being worked on
  6. Accuracy Averse Munitions I think is the PC term
  7. (not sure if ED have blender export tools tho, so it might be necessary to use 3ds Max for the final steps?......is there still a free version of max?..used to be one called gmax)
  8. Blender is phenomenally good... We used to have to pay thousands of $$'s for a quality 3d editing / animating / rendering tool (Maya), now days Blender does it all (and including a compositing suite and realtime engine) for free. Free!! If you want to learn to use Blender , check out a huge bunch of free video tutorials for various things at http://www.blenderguru.com/ Don't even consider anything that costs money, Blender can do it just as well for what you want anyway..
  9. simply this: On the radio's - radio the JTAC - Acknowledge ready for 9 line (radio option) - Acknowledge ready for additional intuctions (radio option) - Repeat 9 line (radio option) (this is a pretty fixed sequence for a standard type-3 JTAC call...this changes a bit for Type 1 or 2, but never mind about that for now) The JTAC will then digitally send data to you via...you will see 3 things happen 1) a "new msg" indicator in each MFD (click lower right OSB to acknowledge) 2) a flashing red triangle will appear in your TAD, this is the Target co-ordinates 3) 2 new options will appear in the TAD "Wilco" and "CNC", both in red Click on the "wilco" OSB on the TAD...the triangle will stop flashing You can them Hook the Red Target Triangle in the TAD (slew the the Target Desigantor cursor over the Triangle and DMS up short), then set as SPI (TMS up Long...you'll see the Wedding Cake SPI symbol snap to the red triangle on the TAD).. Then change your TGP to SOI, and "slave to SPI" (China-Hat forward I think?...you can look it up anyway). So... Maybe a little complicated if your new, but it is a fairly fixed set of steps...do it a few times and it'll become second nature. Then, when your feeling cocky, you can do it manually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcJ8mlMF7qg
  10. The lower left of the HUD shows what sensor is SOI The wedding cake symbol on the TAD indicates the location of the SPI (it will overlap either the current steerpoint, the current TGP location or the currently hooked symbol depending on which Sensor is SOI when you designate SPI)
  11. your positive your alignment has actually finished (ie. 4.0.0.8) ?... Wait till NAV ALIGNMENT is flashing in the CDU before changing to internal INS NAV mode, and then select EGI as the source but yeah, a track is worth a thousand EAC posts as they say
  12. I have also had the stretch-to-infinity crash on Georgian Hammer missions that run over 45mins to an hour in the air or so. I believe it to be a memory restriction, and I would suggest lowering your scene settings to compensate....I'll try to investigate a little further though, as I can get it pretty consistently these days. A trick to seeing how the Units you are supporting are doing (and where they are trying to get to) is to use "f10" view. In f10 view, click on the M1a1 and M1a2 platoons that you are protecting (assuming you have activated them in the radio / f10-other selection)...it will show you their intended path and goal, + their current progress along that path. It is possible for the pathing to be broken so that they cannot continue (as you say as a result of a destroyed bridge) , however there is also AI that will re-path them if it is possible...ie if they are amphibious, they will ford the river amphibiously...if there is another bridge nearby, they will re-reroute to that bridge...etc.. If there is no viable path left thought, then they can get stuck as you say.
  13. Hi There, There is no need to select FM, just leave it on "Man" and set to the correct freq (30.00Mhz probably). The important part is understand is that there are 3 radio transmit buttons on the hotas controls, and you must use the VHF FM transmit button. The generic "use radio" button only works if "easy radios" is set in the mission parameters (which it isn't for this mission) So, if you are close enough to the Unit acting as the JTAC, and you have the VHF FM freq set correctly, and you use the VHF FM Transmit button, you should be good to go. As a rule of thumb: VHF AM = Airfields / other Air traffic not in your flight VHF FM = JTAC's UHF = Your flight
  14. 6) make sure you within the Autopilot engagement parameters when you engage. (ie if you are "alt" mode, make sure you are not climbing more that +/- 5m/s, if youre in Heading mode make sure you are not Banking etc..)
  15. I've never seen anything so amazing in all my life!
  16. I'd haszard a guess that saving all of the states of all of the AI units in the game would mean 500MB save files that take 30 or 40 seconds to write..or something like that ?...
  17. A desert Map is in production, of the Nevada / las Vegas area by ED....this could be used to Red-Flag type training campains, or a fictional "red dawn" / homefront type affair? ... this will be released as a pay addon (though free for those who purchased A10c during Beta) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=57485 There is also a community project to map Afghanistan. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=45658 Both have been in production for many months...no ETA as to when either would be released.
  18. I get to a nice airspeed (say 140) and trim for AoA (as per the AoA lights left of HUD) , the rest is just rolling to compensate for windage and throttle to shift the TVV around
  19. no info at all on that yet I'm afraid...what is to be included / covered by the compatibility patch will be released by ED at a later stage, as development on the patch proceeds.
  20. I don't suppose you've got / be willing to give out high res of that shot for desktop purposes? (1920*1200 or greater?)
  21. no worries, thanks for doing such a great startup guide!
  22. nope, fair enough...and as Paul has said above, looks like IRL they pre-position the AC Generator switches on anyway, so your steps are legitimate (just the explanation is not...these switches have nothing to do with the APU) ..worth noting though, Battery power never actually stops being required...all the DC stuff will run from the batteries only. All the AC stuff (including the battery charger) will run from the generator(s). The APU Generator, and the left / right Engine generators do exactly the same job : provide AC power ...
  23. oh right...lol!...no idea why I thought he was talking 3d Audio...sorry, as you were!
