  1. Issues like these mentioned are reasons why I haven't gone beyond 2-3 hours of initial work getting this to sound better - there are too many back end issues HB needs to address with the way the game handles the current sound files. Fortunately the base sound infrastructure on the FA-18 by ED was integrated a lot better, which paved a nice path for the overhaul I created - HB did not follow suit on this, which means making a proper overhaul is next to impossible. I made it sound better, but is far off from being a product where I feel it is to "Echo 19" standards. Hoping the Viper follows the same path the Hornet has been on (in terms of audio fidelity and infrastructure). Anyway, nice work Bananimal. A step in the right direction, for sure. Modders have a little bit more flexibility when it comes to content creation - as the community does not have to strictly abide by copyright free/royalty free material, whereas companies or 3rd parties (like HB) do have to abide by such standards and are more limited with what sources they are allowed to (legally) pull from.
  2. That makes more sense to me than having pre-orders start in the middle of a work week. :P
  3. I'm not pre-ordering till I see and hear more about it, but the newsletter did say Pre-Orders started today (22nd of May). I assume this was a typo then?
  4. Thanks for the support here fellas, hopefully HB can look into this soon! I'm ready to start work on the Tomcat, but for now I am just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. ;)
  5. Hey there HB team; here is a direct excerpt from the "F-14 Sound Mod" thread in the Mods/Apps section of the forms. Leaving here for some feedback I gave on the sounds in the Tomcat, any chance that these could be addressed or looked at? Thanks guys and hellofa job well done on the Tomcat!
  6. I think the issue here is that people in the DCS community often settle for "good enough", without really knowing how good things CAN and SHOULD sound in a high-fidelity sim like DCS. Even if we did group up together and stand up to ED, I'm sure it will still go without them saying anything about it... like most things they've been promising for years now. It really is unfortunate, DCS could be so much more than just a combat sim, but I'm afraid the folks at ED don't look at it that way. If ED handled their business practices differently, this sim could provide the foundation of the next era of flight simulation - even down to a civilian / GA level. I could get into how they could accomplish this, but I'll leave it to my dreams for now. ;)
  7. I've been poking around with it, and made some good progress: couple of things HB needs to address before I even think about a release of any kind; Most of the external samples are played at any speed, even when the aircraft is stationary, like the "Flyby" sounds for both front/rear. These need to be activated past a certain speed threshold, like the Hornet's. Otherwise things sound overpowered - not to mention not very immersive. I had this issue in ArmA; I overcame this by activating a threshold at which the audio would play. I guarantee that this can be done in DCS - because I've delt with it before, but I don't have the ability to make such changes myself (nor does the rest of the modding community). Sound load times: the aircraft seems to take several seconds before loading the external sound sets in-game while switching between internal/external cameras. Say you are in-cockpit and switch to F3/F11 views, it will take the sim a few moments to load these samples (unlike the Hornet where it is pretty instantaneous). If HB can polish up how the sim handles these samples I would be happy to assist in getting things polished more/more immersive sounding, but there's not much I can do when you can hear flyby sounds as the aircraft is taxing around the apron. I wish I can do more, but until these things are addressed - I am a bit stuck, unfortunately.
  8. This was also reported under "General" issues above these threads, I have the same issue when loading any module. Also - initial start-up takes longer than usual.
  9. Can you snap a photo?
  10. From one "toy" to the next. ;)
  11. Cloud rendering and cloud sync has been an issue with DCS' weather for a while now; hopefully when we eventually get a better cloud and weather system, this will be an issue of the past.
  12. Same exact issue.... thought it was HB's F-14 but actually does it on all modules/situations.
  13. CPU: i5-4690k @ 4.4Ghz RAM: 16GB DDr3 @ 1866Mhz GPU: GTX 1080ti (stock clock) DCS installed on an 500GB 850 EVO SSD. Haven't loaded into MP in a while, so for me this is in singleplayer when selecting "Loadout" in the editor, as well as when the game hits the flight briefing where the "fly" button is visible. Settings are all maxed, except for super sampling (1.5) and chimney smoke density (1).
  14. To be completely honest; the sound on the F-14 is good, but not good enough for me. I dug around SDEF files and most of the exterior samples' files make no sense. For instance; a typical inner/outer radius on other modules is around 400(m) and 1600 respectively. However, for most of the external samples - these values are in the thousands. I've only just begun digging into the sound on the cat, and it's not structured as nicely as the Hornet is, unfortunately - which means getting this thing to sound more accurate is going to be a relatively difficult task to accomplish with what we have available to us. Regardless; HB did a great job with the resources they have available to them - so props for that! Looking forward to what lies ahead, both for the Cat and beyond.
  15. I can do this in the DCS: F-18 - is this not supposed to happen? Because I've been able to do it for quite some time now...
  16. In a saved track replay - if a player uses the Jester AI, the control panel does not disable and requires taking control over the aircraft to disable it. Track replays do not seem to function correctly, and 9/10 times the plane ends up in the ground one way or another. Seems like the game is not recording the tracks correctly? When selecting the unit in the editor for the first time on DCS bootup, the game hangs for 10 seconds or so in the weapons dialog - I assume while loading the model? Same issue when "flying" the mission - the player is greeted with a black screen for 10-15 seconds while the game loads the model/textures. I do not have this issue with other DCS modules. My game/computer's drivers are all up-to-date and my game is running on an 850 EVO SSD. Just a few things I've noticed so far - otherwise she runs and fly's great!
  17. We just gotta wait a few more days to listen for ourselves! :pilotfly:
  18. I like how it’s not even released yet and you want a mod for it... y’all are crazy haha. Jokes aside I’ll see how close it actually comes to it - I overhauled a Cat for ArmA 3, so a lot of my samples should already be pretty close to finished. We’ll see how good she actually sounds! Cobra from HB on Reddit mentioned the limitations they had, and will be tweaking audio as they go.
  19. If you copy the "Sounds" folder into your main DCS directory - overwrite any files it asks. I'd suggest making a backup before installing any sort of mod in the future, so that you can revert back to the vanilla if necessary. You can choose to "Repair DCS World" from one of the executables, which will re-download any assets the game finds that aren't native. Sound mods are relatively simple to install, it is literally as easy as copy/paste.
  20. By default; DCS loads .ogg files before .wav if no “ogg” file is found. Unless they’re in different directories, there’s no reason why both are there - if your game is vanilla.
  21. Update is officially released! Download it now at: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3302314/ Changelog available in original post.
  22. That is incorrect, FGhouse. That must have been a typo on a repo somewhere. Version 2.0 officially comes out tomorrow morning (Friday, EST) or whenever I can get to my PC long enough to hit "upload". ;)
  23. I'll be posting a full changelog when the update is pushed out tomorrow! Yes, there should no longer be any whisking or howl "siren"! ;) Couple cool new things added as well. Stay tuned!
  24. VAQ-141 Shadowhawks Working on a VAQ-141 "Shadowhawks" livery. They are an EA-18G unit, however, one of my buddies is in this unit and wanted to fly their squadron in-game...
  25. Incoming update! New update is coming soon to the Hornet overhaul in DCS! Many fixes, tweaks and even some additions are making their way to the Hornet! Oh joy! Everything is sounding better than ever thanks to your support. Stay tuned and keep an eye out here for more details. Exciting things planned for 2019!
