  1. While true, that is a stupid pretext for game design. And this is a game no matter how much you want it to be something else.
  2. Spotting in VR right now, for me, is the most realistic its ever been for me on my G2. I can barely see a dot at 10 miles if I know where to look and the aircraft get a dark silhouette against the sky somewhere around 2-3 miles. A lot of the previous disappearing aircraft no longer happens but some still does. It certainly isn't anywhere close to the Real World. Frankly, its garbage compared to real world, especially at visual fight ranges. Blurry, fuzzy mess when you should be seeing sharp detail. Whether or not its fun is a matter of personal preference. If you lack BFM skill, invisibility is a superpower. If you actually like a fight against a human opponent, current spotting is not much fun. The lack of fun for MP folks can be seen in the lack of population in visual range PvP servers but MP is a tiny fraction of the intended audience.
  3. This might be intentional behavior Player wounded and blacked out while AI is hovering. There is no way to switch seats and switch controls. The AI just hovers until fuel exhausted? Can we retain the ability to switch AI off and die with dignity?

  4. I don’t bother screwing with the radar much outside of flood mode in the Phantom but it isn’t going to be much good at hot (nose) aspect against a Fishbed. Get some aspect off the nose to give your radar chance. Better yet, fly with a wingman. Make the bandit choose and the other guy gets an easy shot. The Phantom is a wing tactics dream because the free fighter can get a Sparrow kill in the pre-merge lead turn from a wide bracket and if that doesn’t work it can get 90 degrees out of plane and shoot a Sparrow or heater in the first turn post merge.
  5. I flew some airplanes that were prone to pitch trim runaway and did not have boosted controls. Needless to say, we didn’t do a bunch of trim fiddling close to the ground.
  6. I am still looking for a user fix but haven't found anything yet that might work. No obvious things in the accessible lua files I looked at this morning.
  7. Yes. Keyboard or joystick mapping does not work for this switch. Only clicking works.
  8. Why is it only occurring in MP for the guy? That is the critical bit. If its his hardware, MP or SP should not matter.
  9. Immersion is the proper word. Emersion is the process of emerging from water versus being immersed into water.
  10. I wasn’t talking about DCS modules when I referenced analog jets. I was talking about real airplanes. Analog jets ( capable of high subsonic Mach or supersonic) don’t trim using elevators with trim tabs. The entire HSTAB moves in order to trim for pitch. Many move the entire HSTAB as the primary pitch control. Its hard to find the sweet spot, unlike a manually(hand crank or wheel) trimmed tab on an elevator. I make no comparison to other DCS modules.
  11. Sound. I built my own seat shaker and fly with tunes cranked. I don’t fly in servers that allow external views. Sounds are fine. 3D. Cockpit looks fine to me. Textures. Its VR Physics. I don’t recall anything in these 22 pages except something about full fuel and 4 boomsticks. Overgross doesn’t mean always impossible. It means always bad idea but you might get away with it. Been there, done that. Seems to fly like a helo and the acknowledged SME gave it a thumbs up. I did have a wild incident switching off the AI Pilot while he was following the route that resulted in a snap roll. Definitely ranked in the impossible category so there is that.
  12. This wonderful thread inspired me to spend the money and take the plunge on the Kiowa. I am not much of a rotorhead, preferring PvP WVR above all. I do own the Huey and Hip but rarely fly them. After 6 hours in the Kiowa, I will say it’s excellent. I fly in VR so I don’t give a about eye candy especially crew faces. Flying is fun. The potential for teamwork with this machine is exciting and the AI pilot is completely competent, terse and mature. I wish I could transition the guy to fixed wing. Only bugginess I noticed is long distance MMS video is sometimes blanked in portions. Money well spent, in my opinion.
  13. Its not a binary trim/no trim situation. Every airplane requires constant trim but you still fly it by applying pressure and trimming to keep that pressure manageable. If you are trying to achieve zero pressure (or a centered stick in a game), life is going to be miserable for you. I don’t find the Phantom usually sensitive or unpredictable in trim. It feels pretty average for an analog jet.

  15. None of that happened. After repair/rearm/refuel, I took off, climbed to 7000 ft and did approximately six orbits at military power or less, never pulled more than 4 G, fired 4 AGM-65’s and the engines flamed out with 4K on the gauges My guess is repair is bugged and I had a massive fuel leak but since you obviously aren’t too interested I guess it is pointless to bother even mentioning.
  16. I understand there are many moving parts. However, you are missing a salient point. After landing with damage, I did a repair. So if the previous battle damage caused the issues described, repair is bugged. If repair isn’t bugged, then the aircraft ran out of fuel with 4000 lbs on the gauge. I will be testing this further and can post the long tracks associated with further testing if you like.
  17. I cannot capture a short track for this one. In MP, after rearm/refuel the centerline tank and/or fuel system behaves strangely. The external tank appears to feed a bit and then stop. Much later the fuel quantity will sometimes jump from 4-5K back up to a much higher number. Yesterday, I landed with damage. Did a repair then rearmed and refueled. External CL fed for a short period and then appeared empty after about 30 seconds. And then, a while later, I suffered a double flameout with 4090 lbs on the fuel gauge.
  18. The question isn’t whether it would start. Its overtemp. If it is still starting with normal temps, it isn’t modeling the cooling effect of airflow.
  19. not in level flight.
  20. Change the power. It all works together.
  21. Since everyone should know the F-4E radar is crap, it seems quite odd that HB did not spend more effort to make the Clown less of an idiot with regard to the non-radar aspects of his job. The day we can manually edit his idiocy cannot come soon enough.
  22. Trimming for a speed or attitude isn't flying with the trim. Flying with the trim is using the trim to move the control surface from one place to another. If you are constantly trimming while tanking or flying close formation or some other precision task, you might want to re-evaluate your technique.
  23. Flying with the trim is a bad idea and a bad habit. Amazing it has become acceptable to some irl, apparently. Phantom trim seems fine to me. Seems like a normal jet.
  24. The Shrike is a blast-fragmentation warhead. It might punch some holes and kill some crew but it isn’t going to stop a motor or break an axle.
