Thanks, i'll be using this. Helps immersion greatly. Is it possible that this could be made to work so that it is forced on clients in MP, if say the host is using it?? Presently it only works locally. Each client needs to make the alteration for them not to see the messages. P.S I owe you some rep.. but 1st i need to spread some about. ;)

Waiting, semi patiently. :surrender:

I'm running a nvidia gtx 480.. very impressed with it. Maybe you can get one for your budget, used if needed. Runs DCS perfectly, and everything else i throw at it. And yes all powerful cards are huge these days....

Recommend CPU overclocking guide?
MadTommy replied to apoll's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Best thing to do is register and make a post asking for help here http://forums.tweaktown.com/ They are very helpful. As every system is unique guides are fairly useless. -
Sounds excellent, great work, thanks for sharing. Very useful. But can you explain the above. Does it need to be continuous or not? And what is the relevance of the 1st 10 seconds or so of the mission? Just the bit quoted has me scratching my head, don't really understand what you are saying or the logic. Thanks

Will this pc do the job for dcs??
MadTommy replied to rextar's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'd only be guessing as my setup could not be more different. But i'd guess on a single monitor you should have 40 - 60 fps with all setting on high. But don't quote me! -
Really? I had a 260 for several years.. it never ran that cool under load with no over clock! Mine ran 70 - 80C 50c is ice cold for a 260.

Yes it will run DSC. -
Could be numerous things... Are you monitoring the temperatures? What temp is it running at? The obvious solution would be to reduce the overlock setting until it runs with no issues. Did you stress test your overclock settings?

CPU usage, cores and what not.
MadTommy replied to MadTommy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks EtherealN Personally i never have schedule tasks set, all maintenance and such like i do manually, even if i had 20 core i don't think this would change, old habits and all that. Also if I'm flying don't generally have anything else running, trackir, TS3 and maybe the odd time winamp, never antivirus or such like. My CPU seems to cope well at the minute. Am i correct in my assumption that DCS only ever uses 2 cores then? -
I have one.. expensive but very good. Arma is the main beneficiary.. and so is Windows. Whether they are worth the money is a judgement call only you can make.. they certainly give me great performance in many games & applications.

I'm curious about how the game uses your CPU & its cores. I have an E8400 dual core running at 3.6Ghz. My understanding is that DSC-A10c uses two cores , one for the game engine & one for the sound engine. Is this correct? From the FAQ I'm on Windows 7 (x64) I have a couple of questions? Is there any advantage to having more than 2 cores when running DCS? It appears to me there is not, has anyone witnessed different? Is my CPU basically better at running this game than an i7 running at 2.8 Ghz for example? Are there plans to support true multiple CPU support in the future? Thanks.

Holy crap.. been waiting for ED to produce this info... great work! Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately the RADIO ITEM ADD trigger only works for the server host. another SP feature it would seem. Originally i used this to trigger the next tasking. But i will make the tasking instructions repeat every 10 minutes in future, so if you do arrive late and no one knows the present tasking the mission can continue. Thanks for the feedback. TBH the AFAC / JTAC is a bit crap in this version.. i'll attach one where they work better. Try this one... check attachments. (its a WIP version.. AFAC is working better) Yeah no worries, maybe you can post it up so we can try it as well :) Glad you enjoyed it.. yeah SEAD is fun on this mission, especially as everything moves about each time you fly it! But F7.. pfft that's just cheating! ;) Operation_Cherkessk.v2.1(wip).miz

I use a Windows Explorer replacement program call Directory Opus, that has a built in image converting function, i simply right click on an image to convert it. I don't suggest you use it, its just the simplest way for me. (But Opus is an amazing program.. couldn't live without it!) But any half decent image manipulation application should do it, there are plenty of free ones about. I converted your png to jpeg and set it to 90% image quality to get the above results.

And the scripts & config folders also have various empty files too, seemed odd, that's all. Thanks for the explanation. You can achieve the same resolution with jpeg, but yes you are correct that you need to be careful to maintain enough quality with jpegs that they are still clear. - One of these is 489KB png the other is 84.7KB jpg. Considering you can't zoom in on the briefing pages, there is very little difference in their legibility. (at least to my eyes) :smilewink:

Sounds fun. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to trying it, (and most likely failing :joystick:) EDIT: I have a question; i often do some of my mission making in a text editor to the mission file, so wanted to have a quick look at you mission and was interested in your use of scripts. Something i don't understand yet. But i notice you have 4 folders; track_data, track, Scripts & Config that contain numerous files, however all these files are empty. What is going on with these? Is there are issue or are they left over from some process? I'm simply interested as I'm wanting to learn other mission makers techniques to help me develop my missions further. If you don't care to share, i understand. Thanks. And one last thing.. bit of feedback.. using png format for your briefing images is making the mission a lot larger than it needs to be, png is a very bulky image format. You could likely save 2 MB off the mission size by converting these. A 490KB png could easily be made to be a 50KB jpeg. (considering the briefing image size is 512x512 px)

Looking very nice indeed. Look forward to trying this. We'll see if we can get 12 in the air for it, see how our connection holds up. Thanks, will provide feedback once its been flown a few times. :)

Glad you are enjoying it. I'm was planning to wait for beta5 to release 2.0. (its well on its way, with all new taskings). If beta5 is not out in the next week i'll release 2.0 Bad weather & night version no problem.. i have versions of those already, i'll post them up later. The bad weather one was tough, at least for me! Failure indicator? I don't your comments. i have no failures in the missions, any failures you are getting are not generated from the mission. If you asking for failures to be added, i could do this, but there seem to be enough failures without these anyway. Thanks for the feedback.

Its appears ED believe DCS is a offline product. yet Blackshark was only available as a download for many months..I've never seen FC / FC2 or Blackshark in a shop. (i know it exists, its just rare), Blackshark is available through Steam, I've never seen a print advert for it....this all leads to a very odd collection of facts and EDs constant position the offline is far more important than online. (there always seems to be something 'more important' to work on than online features.) All very bizarre.

true ture..I did land within the airport and didn't overshoot the runway...and I didn't need to eject.. but considering the fire off my left wing and hung Mav i thought it was best! But yes.. not exactly within the rules.. but i was bloody close to getting it onto the runway.. last 3 seconds or so and my lack of airspeed made it impossible to stop it veering off. :joystick: Next time!

I landed this between the runway & taxiway... just couldn't keep in on line with the runway during final approach. I flew 15 minutes back from the threat zone with one and a half wings... the right was shot off the left broke off on landing.. but i walked away. I only ejected after coming to a complete stop. I had no landing gear, so performed a belly landing. So i think this counts. :D
