  1. I concur with JallieFR, same issue... crash with local tool tips off. I think the server may have them enabled, or if not restricted the server maybe enforcing the tool tips from the hosts main settings. I think under "game-play" there is a check box that says, use these settings yada yada. This would override tool tips preferences in the mission unless the host DCS instance unchecks that box. However this may also be an unrelated 2.1.1 VR bug. I was really hoping for a fix today...
  2. Some guys I fly with just leave the gyro at "11" which is roughly where the 50's converge and fly to get the target into that set gun sight (lead and distance). You'll find a much easier kill if doing this. I also agree that you should keep the gyro on the target and count "one Mississippi" and then fire. Same goes for most earlier gyro's (including the F-5).
  3. I'm hoping for maybe a barricade system too! For those who may not know here's a quick vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD_mUwzpUs4
  4. As some one that pays for tuition with tips, thank you for this analogy!
  5. If you remove GCI you might as well remove the F-5 and Mig-21...
  6. So I have DK2 and CV1, first off, I've recently been having a lot of trouble with (i think) the camera drivers for the DK2 and since ~March have been unable to get positional tracking to function. I fear this is a sign of things to come... However, the CV1 is much more comfortable. This would seem unimportant until you wear a headset for a BF round (~3 hours) and realize you could go for another 3-4 hours. As was previously stated the screen door effect is less noticeable in the CV1... a lot less noticeable. I believe the CV1 also has a slightly larger FOV. Maybe it just feels that way because the screen sit a bit closer to my eyes. I wear glasses and the CV1 is far better designed for the vision impaired! I live in the US, but you can feel free to stop by, lol. Full disclosure I have an old dog that smells like feet 4/5ths of the time...
  7. Here's what i found, practicing to defend against human helo's on BF. I setup a very similar mission as yourself and I realized a few things. The guns on the mirage seem to have an upward angle on them, which makes sense. In a turn fight it gives the pilot a more optimal firing position, however, it means you have to place your nose well under the helo's position, risking a CFIT. I found diving down lower than the helo's altitude, leveling off, and entering into a slight climb (or high AOA if at a slower speed) in order to place the cross on the hud, at the rotor hub. Try to bore-sight lock the chopper, which should be much easier because now there is no ground clutter to filter out. Fire when in range. I found I would try and chase the A-A gun pipper, but after some practice found that placing the gun cross at the place where the rotors meet on the shaft, waiting for the pipper to move into an optimal location, and then firing, worked much better. Hope this helps... its also worth while turning the radar off and practicing without lock on. The same technique works with or without radar and stopped me from slamming into the ground. There is one additional problem, if you are online and decide going for a chopper is a good idea, make sure you are clear or have top cover. You're surrendering alot of PE to get so low as to tangle with a ka-50. The 530's loose alot of range that low, as well, so when going for a chopper you've effectively given the fight to a lurking opponent.
  8. I welcome the return of the fuel economy, however maybe a capitol airport should be designated that has a quicker fuel respawn rate or unlimited fuel.... Especially for testing. I noticed balance concerns without regards to fuel. I think voluntary balance is much more favorable to enforced balance. Sent from my LG-K330 using Tapatalk

  10. I would second that. Maybe just not enforcing it one way or another on the server would suffice. That way people can opt out of self inflicted punishment for the sake of realism... Lol. EDIT (additional meanderings): After some mucking about I have come to some very early understandings about other missile systems. I understand everyone's gripe and that being said, I still stick to my initial conclusion that most Su-27 drivers are trying to force a merge that the mirage has an advantage in (head on and under speed). However I have noticed that both the R-27R/T and the AIM-7 are much more susceptible to chaff and flare than the 530. That being said, the mirage has a limited capacity for such countermeasures, unless the eclair pod is equipped. Since balance is mostly about managing resources I might extend an alternate solution; restricting this attachment. This would level the playing field for both the F-15 and Su-27/Mig-29 a bit more. At the same time, it would not prevent people from choosing the mirage and those that do would find an additional challenge in managing countermeasures effectively.
  11. I have the same problem with Arak hitting long as well...
  12. I guess I'm a glass half full kinda guy... there is only one way to find out though. In the meantime, it would be unfair for me to continue this discussion without first hand experience in the SU-27 online, thus, Red, here I come.
  13. Found this about some one at ED working on missile code: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3156910&postcount=14 Like I said, I think things have gone off the rails a bit. The goal is to eliminate the M2K v M2K "balance" issue, right? I'm not sure how adding the ER or data-link will execute this task. A far simpler solution, if this is indeed the "problem" that we are dealing with, would be to limit M2K spots... ~10-15 each side. Maybe less. I choose to fly the Viggen over the A-10C most of the time, because I enjoy flying it and the challenges it offers. If you added cluster munitions to the A-10 I wouldn't stop flying the Viggen... the logic here is off the wall, insanity. People will fly what they want to fly, because its their free time. I wouldn't join a server to do a "job." If people wanted to fly the 27 they would, and they do. SO... go ahead, try balancing the mission by giving the ER to the SU-27, but when this doesn't solve the issue of M2K v M2K, i will so be typing "I told you so." In either case, in 6-mo this will all be moot, with 2-3 more "study level" fighters set to be released.

  15. Sorry I had work... ya know, in order to pay for the F-14, F-18 and Night Attack, and maybe some food and rent in there somewhere too. I dled the track and will look at it later. I think, obviously, things got off the rails and after catching up on the after math, my initial point was; knowing a mach 3.5 missile cannot beat a head to head engagement with a mach 4.5 missile, why is every one upset when the they loose the head to head engagement? And I don't mean this in a rhetorical way, I'm asking why? Also, I thought you were arguing for the inclusion of the ER? If not, why are you and I even debating this? I think frankly we agree on data-link and agree on the ER, although it looks, as some one else said, data-link from fighter to fighter is unavailable in MP, which i don't wholly understand as there are several other similar systems that work fine in MP.
  16. To clarify, the encounter's I've won against the R-27R/T have been when I (mirage) was ~200 knots faster than the opponent. Immediately the chat blows up "530's are OP" "27 is trash" so on and so forth... I am merely suggesting that a track be provided where clearly the Su-27 had an advantageous firing position, and failed. Your point about AI is valid... so instead setup your mission to better meet the parameter you're trying to test (i.e. spawn the mirage at 7nm out... if he fires at 5nm and you're testing for 7nm then readjust the starting spawn to be 9nm away assuming a 2nm window for lock up, so on and so on). Or like i said, I'm willing to host anyone who would like to test these things out... I am interested in the truth as well... Showing a mig-15 defeating a mirage is like disproving climate change with a local weather report... For the very last time, evidence of a Su-27 in an advantageous situation failing with an R-27T/R would be a great way to support your argument for the ER.
  17. Very sound advice, the one thing i would add is that energy is everything. At your initial altitude don't be shy with burner and most times i even enter a shallow dive. You want your missile to have as much initial velocity (energy) as possible. Then after launch chop the throttle back to .9 mach (most people would say .8 mach)... this allows you to decrease the closure rate between you and his/her missiles and is a good speed to be at for maneuvering. Also it is a good idea to immediately start thinking defensive and putting the opponent off to your 10:00ish or 2:00ish... again to decrease closure rate, while maintaining a decent velocity.
  18. Once the differed lighting/gamma issues get sorted as well as the ctd some users are experiencing are sorted I'm sure we'll see a increase in servers... also it takes some time to write a multiplayer mission...
  19. God, you guys are very hung up on this gun thing... Here's deal and then I'm done. People are making claims that are unsubstantiated. I've provided citations and experimental evidence to back up my claims. So if anyone feels that kills should be obtained with guns against a fully armed mirage, then drop the argument for a more capable missile... because surely if you should be getting gun kills (as an experienced Su-27 driver), then how come you can't be successful with SARH and IR missiles against a human? I will concede that it seems the 27R and T are easier spoofed by chaff, if you look at the tacview file, you'll see the missile oscillate and divert from the target when he's spamming countermeasures... but also he is spamming his countermeasures. To be fair here, no one has provided evidence to the contrary or any other information (i.e. ED bug report?). Literally, the only counterpoints are empty and negative, and the critiques are borderline personal. There is a saying, "never fire in anger," and I would suggest the same be true posting in an online debate. Now if we want to talk numbers I would be more than willing to setup a server for running very controlled experiments with another person at some point this week. However, I think that's unnecessary as, once again, there has been no evidence presented suggesting the 530 is a magic missile (pun intended) or that the 27 R/T is so under powered that the 17 extra missiles the su-27 carries can't compensate for it. In closing, if anyone would like to post a track or acmi themselves, I'm sure the evidence would be welcome. Guys, if this is how we treat newcomers, we wont have newcomers... provide evidence, make your point, but don't take it or make it personal.
  20. There is an instant action mission called "Missile Combat" or something. If you practice on that until you can destroy all four enemies, you'll find you can fair much better online against 1-2 people... again fox 3 complicates things... I have a video (not a pro video maker, btw) of a sortie on BF against 3 enemies. Cinematic Video: Cockpit view: Hope this helps a little.
  21. ...I'm just consistent... No need to be rude.
  22. You have tacview? I'll post the .acmi EDIT: attached ACMI in a zip folder... the first batch I tested only 27R or 27T. The second batch I used only heaters. There are two failures where I let my airspeed bleed WAY too much (mind you at this point I was well within IR range). Also it was the first time i saw the SU-27 gun pipper... So when you see that track, don't judge... My goal with the second batch was to allow the M2K to launch both 530 and defeat them before engaging myself. Sometimes this happened sometimes not, but i hate censorship, so you get everything i did. There are two tracks missing, but it was because I forgot to arm the mirage. Su-27 Tacview.zip
  23. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=152863 This is the forum post I was referring to... as well as this hoggit page: Listen I'm all for the Su-27 getting datalink... it is a unique advantage of the platform and should be utilized (its more interesting if each aircraft has unique strengths and weaknesses). If you guys want to get the ER, I would expect a concession to the AIM-120 being introduced. However, I would not predict that would reduce the number of non-FC3 fliers online. I literally ran three 3 sorties with a mirage AI (excellent) and a Su-27 (I literally had to map the keys before the first sortie), same alt, same speed and the guy could never touch me. I don't think online players have different 530's but... maybe? Either way, I like a challenge, i wouldn't mind the ER and 120 being introduced, but I cannot speak for everyone. I think that situation may also betray the design intent of BF in general.
  24. Radar gimbal in the Su-27 IRL is 70 degrees... I think the mirage's is 60 degrees... however this is coming from the ED forums... so all with a grain of salt, I guess... no one said launching while notching... maybe that's the problem. This is also not an acceptable tactic as the missile will loose much energy in the initial course correction. However, launching and then immediately entering into a notch and chopping the throttle is the appropriate response... on your direction change launch another. Also you'd rather be slightly below than above your opponent, as its easier for the missile to track against the sky. (Mind you these are all common mistakes I see and capitalize on.) Using the mirage's FM to avoid missiles is appropriately using the mirage to its strengths, I see no problem here. However take note next time at how much IAS you loose in those maneuvers... Would you engage again? The mirage need only to be beamed to loose track and to effectively evade one missile. Play defense, drain his two missile and then re-engage. Bait him. If he closes quick enough the Su-27's off bore-sight IR missiles will destroy a mirage in a dogfight. Listen, I only make these observation because most of what i see is jousting. Two opponents with minimal course deviation firing whenever they can (something I've been guilty of too). I hardly see pole maneuvers, bracketing, disengaging, or anything hinting at a general strategy. Clearly the SU-27 doesn't excel at these situations against the mirage, so maybe its time to adapt a new tactic.
  25. I think some people underestimate the limitations of the M2000C. The simmers in the M2000C who do well in combat either get lucky or understand the platforms limitations and play to its strengths. I used to get 1/10 hits with a 530 and now, I'm probably between 1/2 and 3/4. Since the M2000C does not carry 37 missiles one must be much more frugal with that trigger and there is something to be said for firing discipline. As such we have learned when is an appropriate time to shoot and when is an appropriate time to disengage for a more advantageous positioning. I believe I won three - four sorties yesterday and after running the replay over night and reviewing the tacview acmi today, I can tell you each sortie I was ~200 knots TAS faster than my opponent. No matter the missile, 9/10 times the fighter with the greater energy advantage wins the fight. Now after a quick, like very quick, google search I can tell you that a major advantage of the SU-27 is the large radar gimbals, thus allowing for greater angles of beaming and notching without loosing SARH lock. If used properly and with greater kinetic energy (different than altitude and thus potential energy) there is no reason the SU-27 should ever loose to a mirage. I also noticed a lot of "double tapping"... in other words firing two SARH missiles within 0-5 seconds of each other. If you loose lock you just lost 2, not one, missiles. This is ill advised. Usually after a notch the target will turn back into the fight (now with less energy) and a lock will again be available. That's when you fire a second missile. I too had issues defeating the 530 in a mirage, so I setup a single player mission where I was unarmed and facing a M2000C on expert with a full load... This does not precisely simulate what you'll find online, but allows you to determine what exactly has to be done to defeat the 530. I found my actions were initially too gently and in order to burn the energy of the 530 (while maintaining lock) I had to make very quick velocity changes in all available planes. I hope this is somewhat helpful, but honestly, when I fail, I look to see what I could have done differently. Frankly its easier to adapt my tactics than to change copyrighted code from Eagle Dynamics...
