Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Pheonix0869 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Yea... I just see a bunch of screenshot messages in the chat, which is why I bring it up. I've seen lagging, of course. That alone causing the lag, is certainly not what I'm saying. (I have read reports that people screenshot to avoid missiles, but I have not witnessed this myself, and assume it may be a placebo---a placebo that may hinder smooth server operations for all.) However, if some one takes 3 screenshots and every Farp has unintended AI troops and there are 52 players... etc. The lag is real, I'm just trying to point out some issues that may be effecting server side processing. I am by no means a tech-guru, but first hand observations can be useful (I think?) Either way, exploits happen (like hiding SA-6's in trees without collision), and that's ingenuity at work, but when exploits effect everyone's experience, that's selfish. Unit balance is a only a small issue to me, but seems to be the only thing on everyone's mind. Once again I was simple suggesting a compromise that people may like. I guess I was incorrect. I do agree that the Gazelle should not carry troops, as this is somewhat unrealistic, and the absence of troop transport functionality would further promote team work. <-- I hesitate even to include this paragraph, as I have no intention on getting involved in the unit balance debate. I have faith in the Creator. -

I noticed people have been dropping troops at their own farp in order to facilitate a recap, and while I believe all is fair in war, this may cause unnecessary lag (IDK). Maybe prescribing the same limitations to troop drops as AA would be advisable.<-- which ever cost less resources. There also still seems to be a bit of screenshot spamming. As you guys re-balance and tweak the mission, I might suggest having advanced aircraft more removed from the front lines, which seems to be the case already, but maybe a bit more so. I think another decent compromise for the whole Red-Blue issue, would be to add aircraft to either side asymmetrically. If you are on red maybe you have 20 Su-25T slots and 5 A-10 slots, while on Blue visa versa. Just a thought that might keep some people happy. Red having the A-10, Ka-50 and FC3 fighters than can bomb and rocket run seems a bit much, whilst the comparison between the Gazelle and Ka-50 is ridiculous at best. I don't envy you and the decisions you'll have to make BF team, but thank your very much for your time and effort! -
@Ciribob - you rock! Thanks for the hotfix, I am testing it now... (some time later) It works! You do have to hit the overlay hotkey twice to get the cursor to go away, but I assume this is toggling the clickable menu and just overlay. Great work! *No clickable functionality yet... in case there is some misunderstanding...

+1 I would be okay with the SU-33 being around but currently the Viggen RB-04 seem to be passing through the carriers. Without a method to sink the carrier... and unlimited lives... it is a bit OP. Now if we could sink the carrier, especially towards the very end of a match, the SU-33 would be a valuable asset, but not one that couldn't be dealt with. On another note, I noticed extreme lag a few times in the server and granted this occurs when the slots are nearly full, but I was wondering if this is only me? My Ping is usually around 100 at these times. When this is happening often the missiles do not track or get lag jinked at the last second and as such is very discouraging. Could I have a bandwidth issue or is this something others are experiencing too? -
Seems I'm getting a consistent cursor in VR now. The white dot that accesses the radio menu. This is happening in both 1.5 stable and 2.0. could be related to SRS, of course it could be related to something entirely different. I run no other mods and have tacview as well.

I can confirm this to be a true statement. However if there were a top 'layer' (like 9-10 in the cloud density setting) then all players would see the whole layer as there is no deviation in placement. This would make capturing the FARPS in higher altitude regions a bit more difficult and interesting! Imagine having to enter a canyon and stay under the clouds to hit the FARP at MM59! -
This might help... I'm mid semester or I would make a video and throw it up... Basically, use the comm F-10 menu to see the nav points and your kneeboard to determine which nav point you should be going to. they are listed something like 355/50 119X (or 50/355 not sure the order) what this means is; set tacan to 119X and the adi course knob to 355. you are looking to intersect the course at 50nm from the source signal... it takes a little bit of jockeying to find the right heading. Here's Wags on the navigation pre-release:

Thanks mate! I'm checking it out now!

I made a few skins for the guys I fly with and all the wings share the same textures, so in order to decrease file size I wanted to use the desciption.lua to use the mutual wings. As well, each pilot has three possible tail sections which signify which element they are in. I would also like these to be shared. I was wondering if anyone could describe to me how this is done? It should be known we are flying the P-51D and that we are using 2.0 as it has a different file structure, I suppose. Any help would be great!

I see a few of posts about "balance", but using a single example from a single point in time, is not indicative of balance. Much like adversaries of global warming will say, "it is cold today and it was warm yesterday, how is the planet warming?" The difference is weather v. climate. So, I would say there are two things being discussed, instantaneous balance and general balance. As the missions progress over a matter of days or week I would be inclined to agree that general balance, if not perfect, is adequate. I for one actually enjoy flying outnumbered, it makes a win more satisfying. I would suggest both sides begin using the buddy sim forums to better co-ordinate strategy, I've been trying to spice up the forums myself, however it seems nobody has much to add... I can't believe that... -

Just noticed that tacview released the beta for the Real-time telemetry for DCS World. This would enhance the stream, that I plan on watching regardless. I'm sure you guys knew this, but i figured I would leave this here regardless. http://www.tacview.net/download/beta/en/ -

Out of curiosity, do you use SimShaker... sometimes the audio channel gets reset and the output is to a headset instead of buttkicker/jetseat... -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

Just dropping a some brain droppings. Mostly about the ships and Viggen. I was imagining the ships acting on a predetermined path up or down the coast hitting the Redfor or Blufor main strongholds at about the 2 hr mark, unless otherwise interdicted. However it may be a much simpler insertion to lighten the defenses on cities under the protective umbrella of a static vessel group. This allows extra protection for "Capitol" cities, which are usually dealt with at the end of the match, and as such would funnel all available Viggen drivers to those targets, regardless of active cooperation. As an aside, I like the idea of the Carriers carrying additional goodies that can be ferried back to mainland by transport choppers or allow landing SU-33 and F/A -18 (two weeks) to rearm with slightly better missiles. As much as it pains me to write this, I would observe the performance of BK-90's on the server as they seem to be resource heavy atm. Cheers, and great work on a very worthwhile, entertaining, and challenging server! -
Tacview, the ACMI for DCS World – Official Thread
Pheonix0869 replied to Vyrtuoz's topic in DCS Modding
First off, great software. Without this I would have no idea what was happening to me in a DCS MP match, or what rookie mistakes I was(am) making. I noticed that during a replay if a player (not the recording player) drops or maybe even quits their object remains (i.e. plane, helicopter.) I believe this is the case for the track replay as well, however that's a system with its own problems. Would it be possible to allow the user to remove an object at a certain time-code, or just disable the object? I also noticed a very cool overlay when placing a custom object (i.e. bullseye) with a compass rose style overlay. Would it be possible to toggle this overlay without directly having the object selected? It would also be very cool for that compass rose to have maybe 0-90-180-270 numbering. Anyway, I know very little, but these are some humble requests from a avid Tacview user. -
To find the keystroke go to the controls menu and use the drop down to select search, then type in slew... I believe the keys will be labelled TDC slew... don't quote me on that, but it will be very similar (i.e. something slew). Its hard to believe but the M2K is a 70's bird and as such the radar is not as reliable as say the F-15. It is more susceptible to notching and beaming and you should be aware that I've found it unrealistic to lock a target before the 20 mark (20nm? 20km?) So don't get frustrated if the target keeps popping in and out of view, this happens... alot... I wont go into great detail but in order to get STT you need to a.)be in HFR mode. This mode is default so if you haven't touched a switch then you're probably ok. b.) slew your radar cursor over the target. c.) press the target lock button... you are now in TWS, which you can actually launch a 530 from and when you do you will automatically be thrown into STT... mind you the 530s need you (the M2K) to maintain lock until splash... head on in the Mirage is a bad idea. I do it all the time... if instead of firing you press the lock target button again (while your cursor is still over the radar contact) you will be put into STT. I hope that answers a lot of your questions. The campaign and training missions with the mirage are excellent. The campaign runs you through a lot of the systems operation. Also Chuck's guide is great as some one posted above. Most the times the manuals wont refer to specific key, because they know most of use customize the controls for everything! If I click my left heel twice I turn on my turn signals! (not a real feature)

I noticed the Weapons Radial Selector is unreadable even with zoom. Is that you're experience as well? Back to the OP's topic. Developers are getting better and better with VR as the technology matures. The Viggen is no exception. The real star of the show is the sound design. Every click and beep is outstanding. Think of the sounds from an Alien movie with all the analogue computers! The Viggen was designed be low and fast, as such it provides a unique experience in VR. The Interdiction mission is a prime example. As you approach the target you can see SAMs launching from their point of origin and the trails reaching above you. On egress I hit mach 1.2 at 30 meters and the ground is moving very fast. You definitely get more of a speed feeling in VR than on a 2D screen. I also hear there is a walk-man, for complete immersion!

First off, love the module! So much so, that I'll do my part reporting any bugs for squashing. 1.) In VR I noticed that the texture where the canopy meets the leading edge of the forward glass is missing. There is a gap if you are looking orthogonal to the seem. It is not evident until you lean forward to get a better view out the left or right window. 2.) When I crash (a lot) DCS stutters for seconds, and half the time crashes completely. If you need logs I can provide them, however, I feel as if this is due to a WIP damage model. 3.) In VR, as well it is nearly impossible to make out anything but smears on the Weapons Control Radial. Other text is clear, so this may be a texturing issue. 4.) Some aircraft have the ability to click, again while in VR, on a dial and then by shifting your head, turning said dial. This would be useful for the lighting. The lighting radials give the mouse wheel finger quite a work out at the moment (i.e. they turn very slowly, and I'm sure we don't need that level of precision over our lights.) (I will continue to add observations as I encounter things, I've tried to keep away from things already posted.) Best of Luck, although you guys hardly need it!

This is the image that line generated in my mind... I could not resist sharing.

I used to get frustrated as well, until Tacview! A lot of times when you perish and don't know why, it can provoke a negative emotional response (for me, anyway.) However after installing the ~3kb, FREE Tacview program and seeing what was actually happening, I grew to have a better understanding of what WAS actually happening! As a result, my situational awareness grew from lessons learned the hard way. As an aside, whenever I take the A-10C up I'm always packing A/A, and half the time I RTB with both missiles being expended. (Very few hits though, more of a dogs bark than a dogs bite, but it buys precious time.) Anyway, I am a forever FNG, but I felt like further sharing my experience!

${1} Not sure if this has been posted, but this is due out summer 2017 and hopefully it will have a Normandy map tie-in :music_whistling:

I haven't noticed much in the way of immature players, however, I usually play at off hours due to my schedule. TS and SRS are almost a must in my book. Some of the new modules either have no IFF or buggy IFF (mirage until recent) and thus every once in awhile you'll hear a Raygun call (unless you're not on TS to hear it.) If no one responds then it is likely the friendly will fire. I, myself, am not one who enjoys interacting with people at all (like in general, I'm a hermit), however, I swallow these desires and tolerate some off-topic talk in comms, in order to work better as a part of a team. Without naming specifics, I find the servers with SRS are more profession on comms and usually have a TS server running for general BS. Anyway, I'm sorry for your frustration, I hope you find a happy place to fox and rifle! Cheer!

This is ASW. Some people experience, some don't. With Num Lock on, hit Ctrl and Num Pad 1 at the same time. (Ctrl and Num Pad 4 turn this system back on.) Its messy Occulus SDK stuff that seems to be glitchy to some and double frame rates for others.
