Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
M0ltar replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Very nicely done! The changes you've made are amazing! You have no idea how much I appreciate everything you and the other guys do for this server. Blue Flag is by far the best multiplayer environment and your guys continued work and dedication is nothing short of incredible. -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

This was happening to Rage and I early yesterday morning. The primary aircraft being flow and spawned in we Mistral and Huey's. Again guys, I don't think anyone, including TJ and myself want the issue to be the Mistral. It's just worth looking into as, like ciribob said, it was one of the latest changes. The lag that happens only lasts for a small bit and then disappears. We're in the testing rounds so I think it worth it to remove the Mistral just to see what happens. I'd say this even if it was the Flanker or the A10. We just need to figure it out as the lag is poop. -

There has been lag in every round d of Blue Flag that I have played that. Ican remember. I think the gazelle being brought up was because there was/is an idea that lag was not present before the Mistral was introduced into these past couple testing rounds. I think removing it for a single testing round is a worthy test just to rule it out. I'm not saying it's the cause, just want to see. You never know, this is DCS and weird shit has a tendency to happen. -

PC to your modem is only a single hope in the grand scheme of things. Network issues and things that cause latency spikes can crop up anywhere in a path. Things can also crop up in the destination itself, but Ping accounts for this as the destination has to say hello. A high ping is a very good indicator or a slow connection or a connection that has a high amount of 'Latency' since that is what the number following the milliseconds is called... -

Then how are you measuring the latency? The ping Ms number is called the latency. Ping is normally a pretty good indicator of things going well or not as it not only includes the amount of time information takes to get to and from a designation through all of the hopes, it also includes the time the destination box takes to.say hello back. Sure a box can have extra latency, but that would be either on the box itself or on your local machine and would be an indicator of a box being over taxed. -

They had it enabled a long time ago, but took it out because people were driving and hiding vehicles that we're needed for objectives. -

You know you can change what messages are read to you. You can set it so it's only messages to you and your calls to him. Use right shift+m to cycle through the options. -

Id go for a removal of GCI as well. NOt because of what Jack said, but because of the ability for GCI to see foxed missiles and warn players. I think both teams would be just fine with an AI AWACS or something of the like. It also forces the pilots to be much more aware of their surroundings and understand how to do rejoins and keep track of their wingmen instead of relying on GCI to vector them everywhere. Id also be interested to see if GCI has any impact on lag at all. Probably not, but all of this lag lately has me curious about anything and everything. -

On another note, what about disabling some of the airfields like soganlog, vaziani, nelcheck, some of the northwest. I'm sure I butchered those names. I really don't think we need all these airfields. Limit the number and concentrate the fight further. Just getting rid of a couple on both sides would drastically decrease the unit count. -

Yeah. Havnt there been a lot of units added to the server? There used to be a very limited number of AI that were on the map at all of the locations. Now, it seems things are constantly being added. Looking at locations, if you include buildings (I dont know if they are better for server load or not), unit count does not seem to have changed much. I also see DL was readdedl. Lag was just as bad over the past couple of days with it disabled as it has been with it on so Im not so sure if that is the reason for the lag. -

Can you reset <51P>Slutcher to red or neutral for us? His first time in blue flag. He picked blue by mistake. -

On restart at 1500z I was not able to refuel or rearm at Maykop in any slot in a Flanker. Maykop was at full health. -

All honesty I think 50 is more than enough. The map really is not that big. -

Sounds good to me! Questions though. Does the JTAC have to search that often? If I understood what you said that is. I'd like to see that limited so it's not an instant ID for JTAC. What about limiting the cycles to once every minute instead of 5 seconds? I'm assuming real life JTAC has to search for targets. -

So the lag continues even with the removal of the red EWR? Can I make a suggestion and say why do g we try and remove the ability to drop units completely from a testing round and see if the lag disperses? -

Yep. Mortar etc were removed for capture. Have to use standard troops. -

Or just put a permanent EWR down toward the north. So, when the front extends south we lose datalink due to range. It also eliminates the possibility of there being to many if that is indeed the problem so we can test with a single. -

The mi8 was originally added to blue because of the difference in speed and ability at high altitude iirc. -

I think its really hard without a GCI on to tell how many are out there and where they are. There could be a ton of manpads deployed, but if GCI is midnight and a new player gets on they may think none are deployed and go for it. -

The timer though doesn't stop people from just constantly airlifting out new units. If the timer is long enough won't we run into similar issues? I still think there needs to be a hard limit to stop the server from taking a dump like it did. Like what someone said earlier, there were, from someone else's observation, tons of EWRs for blue around Sukumi. I like the timer idea, I just still think without a hard cap, even if it's high, we would still run into the same issues. -

I like the new dynamic, I just think there needs to be a limit to how many. Newest manpad removes oldest for example. -

Maybe as the front extends there would be a script that would move the rearm base forward just a bit after a certain point? -

I have said that in the past, yes, when we were talking about giving the Flanker something. I dont think it should have ERs at this point because it has datalink. I just thought it needed something. Like maybe datalink or ERs or something. It was more of an either/or and not both. I think how the fuel sits, given how the game is setup and the games limitations is the best we are going to get. Full fuel would be cool, but I think, like I said earlier, since the planes are not always on the ground they are spawned in causes more issues than it fixes.
