  1. How high up (RPM) are you running up in the Spit? Shouldn't have to have anyone sit on it unless you're running up to damn near climb or T/O RPM...

  3. Well, I genuinely enjoyed taking the spit for a spin around NTTR but... this flight model update has me pretty depressed. I feel like it was tweaked to satisfy whining customers, not to stick with realism... the plane almost never enters a snap roll no matter what you do, stalls and recovers all on its own like a Cessna, and now when doing takeoff/landing it allows absurd amounts of differential load (L-R main gear) in terms of lateral acceleration without going up on two wheels. Heck I even applied differential braking immediately after touchdown when landing too fast yesterday and it straightened right out like a... Cessna. Kind of heartbreaking after the initial FM's difficult realism :(
  4. I'm hearing the jet engine sound again when at altitude and cruise speed in the Spit in 2.0.5, is anyone else getting this? This bug was present in the initial release and fixed in a 1.5 update...
  5. Highly not recommended you try to takeoff as noted above or you're in for stall practice at 100ft off the runway. Taking off with flaps is a handicap, it allows you to gain lift sooner (read: at stall speed) which not recommended or suggested in any case other than a super-short-run takeoff for emergency purposes.
  6. Bear in mind its a very strong monocoque design with the metal skin adding to the structure's rigidity, you'd be surprised how many gees some of those old WWII birds could handle. They were over-designed almost as a rule. I helped a guy do some rivet work on an SBD Dauntless at a museum I volunteered at a ways back, and that thing on the inside of the air frame (its wings were off, it was receiving re-lined fuel tanks) was BEEFY. Amazingly thick pieces of aluminum, steel, etc, bracing everywhere. The flight manual might tell the pilot, hey, don't exceed 6 gees, but trust me when I say, those things could take ALOT more, almost any one of them. With no computer modeling and lots of material available, they just packed it on till the project lead designer said hey the plane is too heavy lol

Since I think 1.5.4 I've been unable to get tracks to replay properly for any module in 1.5 or 2.0, no matter what, the aircraft will usually startup and sometimes even taxi accurately, but then once it gets to takeoff, mods enabled or not, the thing just runs home to momma. Really upsetting too because I wish I could watch/save tracks for video editing etc... so I just livestream every time I fly so I have a way to review it somehow.
  10. Side note RE: rudder authority <60mph - thats gonna depend on wind speed and wind direction. Given the right (or wrong, lol) weather conditions, you will find your rudder still steering the plane if only a little bit under 60mph in some cases so be careful and when in doubt, feel it out.
  11. To clarify: Using a Hat Clip, centered on your face, as the hat clip is centered... on your face. Using a ProClip: To the left on the monitor, however far off it needs to be to get a full clean shot at your proclip throughout its full range of motion.
  12. ^ What he said. Stick with the default profile at first, move your camera to a point where it can see 100% of the proclip throughout its entire range of motion while sitting and moving your head naturally, thats where it should sit (the TIR camera).

  14. Live photo of my TIR camera sitting where is lives 24/7 on my LG ultrawide center monitor, used for Elite and DCS 7 days a week. Its aimed directly at where my ProClip will hang off my left ear at all times. Never have to touch it, just run TIR software, hit center and fly. This arrangement affords the camera maximum visibility of my ProClip, which is... on the left side of my head :)

  16. After flying over the Black Sea region map we have now, basically unchanged since, what... 2006? And then the rudimentary (by today's standards) black sea map in Flanker 4.0 - I think its safe to say we are ALL quite done out there, and never want to see Batumi again - I think I could fly from airfield to airfield in my sleep at this point LOL
  17. Bear in mind, guys, that 1.5 is still the only known safe/good development sandbox for any new modules or additions to the DCS kernel, so everything is gonna start there. Nevada as its own standalone is still not even a Beta, so you gotta cut the devs a little (okay, ALOT) of slack, even though I too... am itching to get the Spitfire out to Echo bay, lol
  18. JComm - thank you, yes I'm using DAWS Weather. You can find it if you search the forum, I know the developer does not officially advise his latest version as compatible with 1.5.5 or the latest 2.0 build, but it works fine on mine, and I also use Mustang's Cloud Shape mod (search forums as well, I can't find the link...) and the two together really do help fix DCS' honestly arcane, awful, outdated weather system lol. I typically pull weather for the actual airfield I'm flying out of and set time to the real local time, or I'll fly an airfield that is closely lined up to rwy heading for my local airfield (McKinney, Texas, KTKI) and pull weather for KTKI so I'm flying my local weather/time. Really livens up the experience because you're not doing yourself any favors by setting up the weather to be 'easy' or comfortable. As I was taught by my CFI in the Cub, there's no such thing as a non-crosswind landing, every landing is a slip, and if you don't go up in awful weather and shoot landings, some day you'll find yourself flying a beautiful sunny day, the weather will shift gears on you, and you won't make it home to see your family because you didn't suck it up and push yourself outside of your comfort zone :)
  19. I have an LG35 ultrawide and use TIR5 w/ proclip, never had any issues. A common mistake is to mount the TIR camera directly in front of your face - this is wrong; mount it to the far (your) left on the monitor and then aim it at your clip, as it hangs off your left ear basically. I fly/work 7 days a week in my Obutto Revolution cockpit and I've actually found this to be a great setup because the TIR5 camera now is far enough away from my headset that I can afford to be less accurate with aiming the camera and therefore I'm tinkering with it much less often (almost never, unless my wife's cat tugs at the cable...).
  20. The flaps on this airplane really should just be called Air Brakes or Ventral Spoilers, lol. Don't trim by looking at the indicator, trim by feel to keep your nose on target and as mentioned above, power-to-the-runway and control your glide slope's steepness/shallowness by pulling/adding throttle. You can land this thing without flaps, by the way, it actually makes life a little less complicated but it will cost more runway naturally. Most times in a tailwheel you are pulling the stick back into your lap as far as it will go by feel, as you feel the air start to no longer grip the surfaces and then there's this "tree branch" snapping in your hand sort of feeling and thats ideally done about a foot off the pavement or less and bop down you go. The Spit oddly enough in my personal experience, responds well to being "flown into the ground" more so than other taildraggers generally respond better to be glided in at a much sharper glide slope angle, stop descent, then flared harder and harder as you reach the point at which the plane no longer wants to fly. In the Spit if you have your stick all the way back before you touch the pavement even at silly low airspeed, it will still try to continue flying, which is bad. Sit in the cockpit on the ground and develop a gunsight/sight picture of what the world should look like attitude-wise right before you touchdown. As far as the plane pitching fwd or aft with throttle application, bear in mind this thing is very light, its a very not-draggy plane (super streamlined) and weight & balance of fuel plus weather and how you're managing your prop pitch manually will all combine to affect the plane's reaction to throttle movement. E.G. if your prop pitch is set very coarsely at the moment, yanking throttle one way or the other will yield one reaction very different vs. yanking the throttle with the prop pitched more finely against the air. Oddly enough, one of my best touchdowns was a ferry flight in realtime weather for the airfield I was at in snow etc, and I'd been drinking heavily... but ah... yeah, there ya go, lol

I like to flip every switch inside an airplane to "ON" pretty much any time I climb into an airplane, or an e-plane, as long as the manual doesn't prohibit that prior to startup, and/or that might cause avgas to uh... flow onto the pavement because external tanks aint attached... so, yeah, if it says fuel, leave it on till its time to park and have a beer lol

Either that, difference in pilots' preferences (some guys smoothly ease power out till they're down, some chop it like a cucumber over the numbers) or its possible the FAA requires a different maintenance program for Merlins operated in the US. The FAA really knows how to suck the joy out of flying :|
