  1. Found this...
  2. Thank you for the tutorial. I didn’t understand everything, but I’ll try to figure it out. I suppose that this would work for any MP mission, including SP missions ‘converted’ to MP , not just the ‘Liberation’ missions?
  3. Hi, I would be interested too in hearing from anybody who actually plays DCS in a Reverb G2 at half resolution. Like the OP, I’m currently on a CV1. Anybody? Thanks in advance.
  4. I already use a VRcover thing that improves the CV1's FOV. Thus whether the G2 (V2 or with frankenfov mod) would be a significant improvement for me wrt the FOV is a lottery... I'll have to try (and return the headset if disappointed). Where does your two degree FOV improvement come from ? Frankenfov? WRT the UI, well, I guess I would just install all the required software and then set the resolution in steamVR at 50% (MRTV says it still looks quite good at 50%), the PD at 1.0 and all graphical settings to low (except "textures") in DCS. Is there more to do than that ? Anyway, thanks for your comments.
  5. Indeed I read that too but I have to check’that it is available where I live (continental Europe). OTOH the user reviews that I found so far are mixed about whether the G2’ FOV is actually (noticeably) improved compared to the CV1’s.
  6. Thank you for all this info. I agree that the G2 is closer to what I want than the Q2 because I use the HMD exclusively for DCS and elite dangerous. I read that the G2 has an improved FOV compared to the CV1. And there’S a FrankenFOV mod for the G2, I heard. I’d really like the FOV of the index (or the VP2) but I understand that it’s not a good idea given the price and the requirements.
  7. Is there a tutorial on how to set the server on the same pc? I found only tutorials on how to set a server for ´true’ MP. I read that some use a second PC to do what you did, but I’m a noob and don’t know how to do it on the same PC.
  8. That’s OK, I put all settings except Textures on ‘Low’ or ´off’ anyway. And I’ve already bought more modules (and zero during the last 12 months) than I can play with. Now downloading 2.5.6...
  9. On a lower-end PC, which version is preferable, 2.7.9 or 2.5.6 ? I tried to roll back to 2.5.5 because my GPU is old, but ED won’t let me log in in that version. So I may have to revert to 2.5.6 if 2.7.9 is too demanding.
  10. Nowadays, that’s the only thing for which I’d give some money to ED. I have to roll back to 2.5.5 to keep playing! These last years, most of the money I spent on DCS went to Nvidia, AMD, and so on. Almost none of it went to ED. Edit: I WANTED to roll back to 2.5.5 but it didn’t work. Apparently ED does not make it possible anymore, see Thus what I would really like right now is the possibility to roll back to 2.5.5.
  11. You mean DCS won’t look good at all with PD=1.0 in an Index (or VP2 at half res) ?
  12. Hmm I read some reviews of the quest 2 and it looked interesting indeed, but I haven’t read anywhere that the quest 2 had a wider FOV than the CV1 either... Does it? (That’s why I didn’t mention the Q2 in my original post.) Waiting still seems a more sensible option. But again thanks for the suggestion, I’ll think about it. Other question: Deltamike mentioned above that, with and old HMD like the CV1, people tend to raise the pixel density to compensate for the low resolution. And indeed, I don’t like playing in the CV1 with a PD lower than 1.4. So my questions are: - what would DCS look like (in terms of clarity and FPS), with a PD set to 1.0, in a Vive Pro 2 at half resolution, or in a Valve Index, at minimal graphics settings, no supersampling etc.? Worse than in the CV1 ? I should add that in the CV1 I use the OTT to set it at 30 fps, to reduce the stuttering compared to 45 fps, and I don’t find 30 fps horrible at all (as long as it’s a « constant » 30 fps). I mean: do owners of Index or Vive Pro 2 still need a PD higher than 1.0, (and/or supersampling, and/or antialiasing, whatever) or is it playable without that? - does a CPU upgrade allow to increase PD, or is it only a GPU thing? By the way, happy new year everybody!
  13. The MRTV review is indeed quite positive about the explorer but it says that the explorer’s FOV is about the same as the CV1’s. Better FOV would be my main reason for buying a new HMD, so I’ll wait and save money... But thanks for the suggestion.
  14. Yeah yeah sure I don’t plan to buy a new CPU or mobo or GPU soon. My questions were more: would my old GPU be able to drive a G2 or a VP2 in half resolution, and if yes, whether the improvement in image quality and FOV, compared to the CV1, could justify such a purchase. But the answer is clearly no to both. Thanks, and best wishes!
  15. OK. I’ll wait one more year and see then what the GPU / VR market has become. Maybe in the meantime I’ll roll back to DCS 2.5.5. Or play something else. I gave up long ago waiting for vulkan or multicore support but that’s another topic. Thanks. May I ask which hardware you use?
  16. I think I need a cheaper hobby now, where’s that guitar that I bought a year ago...
  17. Ok thanks.
  18. Okay. Thanks. New question then (if you don’t mind). Currently the cheapest upgrade would be adding RAM. What kind of increase in performance could I expect with just that (from 16 to 32 or 48 GB) ?
  19. Hi, I used to play DCS using a GTX 1060 and an Oculus Rift CV1. I would really like a wider FOV. A Valve Index would be my preference, but it would require a GPU upgrade and that is currently too expensive for me. I wouldn’t mind less SDE as well. I’d like to ask whether upgrading to a reverb G2 or to a Vive pro2, and playing in half resolution until GPU prices become reasonable, would make sense. Like buying a big future-proof 4K display and playing on it in 1080p until the day... Or is that just silly? Better wait and keep using the CV1? I don’t mind playing on low graphical settings as long as the FPS are good. I play only DCS and Elite Dabgerous. Only single player missions. CPU is ryzen 3600 and I have 16 GB RAM. Thanks in advance and have a nice day.
  20. Just finished the campaign! It was great! I had a lot of fun. SPOILER I had to try the 7th mission several times because I got shot down by the sneaky mig, which was a nice touch. Except that... I couldn’t resist looking in tacview where it came from and when, to be ready the next time. If there was a way to add some randomness, for instance two or three different possible times and locations from which the sneaky mig could pop up, that would make it even better IMHO because I could not cheat with tacview then. But I don’t know if that’s possible in the mission editor. Oh I also experienced the ‘bug’ in that mission where Jester says that you locked a buddy when you lock on the Hind, but that’s no big deal, Jester doesn’t have to be right all the time. I cheat by using dot labels anyway (otherwise I’d never see anything coming in my Rift CV1). I was a bit puzzled that the last mission starts in the air but OK... I prefer hot starts from the deck (but cold starts are OK too, then I use auto-start and time acceleration). Thanks again for this free add-on to the Tomcat module, great work!
  21. Mission 5 complete! I confirm that I had again the messages saying that I was too slow to shoot the bandits. I ignored them and finished the CAP and was eventually told to RTB, mission successful. Thank you for helping me with this, very nice work with the campaign. I had to disable tacview to keep a decent framerate (there are so many planes at the same time!) but that was no big deal.
  22. Ah OK, I thought that the 'it took you too long' message meant 'mission failed', so I aborted the mission. I'll try again, ignore the 'took too long message' and wait longer at the CAP station for the next targets to pop up then. Thank you!
  23. SPOILER Still have a problem at mission 5, even after replacing the original mission with the one from your link. I tried again just today: I shot the two flankers, then I shot the first fulcrum just after it took off and my wingman shot the other one. Then there is the "Uzi 6 splash both migs" announcement, and we are told to resume CAP at wpt 2-3, then two messages in succession "you were too slow uzi 5 had to shoot the SU27" and a few seconds later "you were too slow uzi 5 had to shoot the mig29s" and then nothing. I had already had this problem 4-5 times before I saw this thread, then I saw the post about the bug, I downloaded the new mission file and replaced the old miz file with it. Same thing (as described above). Do I have to shoot all the bandits myself (not letting my wingman help me) ? What am I doing wrong ?
  24. Fantastic job! Thank you to the author(s) for this mod. Please keep going! Is it planned to make it compatible with simshaker ? I'd like to scare the neighbours with the engine rumble.
  25. Thank you Kaba, you were right! I had installed the campaign in the Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Campaigns folder, and then I edited the mission file that was there, but in fact the mission file that I had to edit was in the Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Campaigns\en subfolder. For some reason - probably my mistake when I installed the campaign - there was a copy of the campaign folder in each directory, and I hadn't noticed the one in the \en subdirectory.
