I removed the "labels toggle" key bind in the first stage of the trigger and it seems that it solved the problem. Probably when I squeezed the trigger the TM target software had to do 3 things at the same time and that was too many. So I was not doing anything wrong :-). How can I delete this thread to avoid further embarrassment ?
-
Additional information: It seems to happen only when I squeeze both trigger detents at once. If I already have the first detent pressed, then the gun works fine. But if I suddenly squeeze both detents, then (even in free flight) randomly the gun won't fire about 1/5 time. So maybe it's a bug ? I haven't tried to repeat that with other planes or another joystick (that's the only one I have with two detents).

Hi, I'm practicing BFM against an AI A4, guns only. Quite often, at the critical moment, that is, when the A4 crosses in front of my windshield, I squeeze the trigger but the gun just won't fire. Of course Master Arm is on (at other moments the gun will fire normally). This happens both with radar lock and without. Now, with radar lock, when this happens, there can be a cross flashing in the HUD telling me that I'm too close or something. I don't understand. How can I be too close for guns ? Or does it mean something else than too close ? I looked in the manual and in Chuck's guide and I can't find any hint or explanation. What am I doing wrong ? Thank you in advance for your help. Maybe important: - I'm still on version 2.5.5. - I use a TM Cougar and TARGET - First stage of the trigger is mapped on UI VR zoom + turn labels off (because I use dot labels when I'm not firing the gun). - Second stage of the trigger seems to work perfectly in any other circumstance.

Well, I think it might work for all those who cannot do formation flying (and I can't say that I can myselft), but who nevertheless can keep the plane reasonably stable for a few seconds. Especially combined with 'instant refuel'. Anyway, it's up to those who want easyAAR to decide if that would work for them. And if it could be done as an ovgme mod you don't even need to bother about game mode.
-
I don't know how the refuelling stuff is coded in DCS but, I imagine, the "connected" state is probably triggered by a combination of parameters (relative speed, relative distance, orientation etc.) about the probe and the basket. Then MAYBE somebody could (easily?) make a mod (so, not an official DCS modification) where the "ranges" of these parameters can be changed, in such a way, for instance, that you'd just need to touch the basket or to be at a certain distance from it to start taking up fuel. And you could make the parameters more and more stringent as you get better and better at formation flying. And with such a "mod" you might also cheat with the refuel flow rate so that you can be done in, say, a few seconds (or even instantly) instead of a minute or two. The advantage is that you'd slowly learn how to "do it right". That wouldn't be visually perfect (you'd be refuelling with your probe one meter or so from the basket) but (if my first sentence is correct) it might not require a lot of work.

I'd love that too. That's one of the things that I enjoyed in Jane's USAF, back in these days.

So true. I was not a real man, until I learned AAR in DCS.

My DDR4 experience 32gb vs 16gb
Pyker replied to Bossco82's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Bossco82, I was looking for that kind of information. -
Absolutely. It is outrageous that for instance some users skip the cold start procedure, because they won't bother to learn to flip all the right switches in the right order, or because they allegedly do not have the time or because it is "not fun".

For those interested, that can of worms is discussed here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=277843 Thanks for voting, if you haven't yet.;)

It has been discussed before,so I would assume that HB knows about it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=228927 But thanks for pointing it out again.

You don't have any problem with the key binds of the AOA indexer wheel? They don't work at all for me.
-
It's not right, it's not wrong, it's not needed, they would just LIKE it. They would find it more FUN. What is difficult to understand about that? Edit: if that was not clear enough: I have nothing against and find nothing ´wrong' about optional easy AAR if ED does not either.

Why I am unlikely to buy from DCS in the future...
Pyker replied to BrzI's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I agree with all that. My situation is similar. I already bought all the plane modules that I'll ever fly in the next five or ten years (I can fly only one or two planes at the time)... BECAUSE of their high quality (level of detail)! The free A4 is a lot of fun too! The last four modules I bought are all still EA, WIP. Time to wait before buying more WIP. I'll probably buy the Syrian map some day, after I upgrade my PC. Maybe I'll buy the Eurofighter some day, if the reviews are good. Maybe. Voice Attack and Simshaker were two great additions Well worth their price. I too would pay for good missions, especially training missions, but that's not on offer, too bad. I make-do with youtube tutorials and with the free missions made by the community. Some of them are really fun. I would even pay for a DCS World 3.0 with improved ATC, improved AI and AI flight models, and a working track recording/replay system (long live tacview!) but that's not on offer either. I am staying on 2.5.5 until 2.5.6 is ironed out. The supercarrier can wait. So, thank you ED! I am enjoying your products very much! Keep fixing and improving those EA! And everybody have a great weekend! -
IMHO if an optional simplification is already implemented in DCS like easy comms, there is absolutely no reason to remove it. The question arises only for optional simplifications that aren't implemented yet like easier AAR because they would divert resources from ED. Then it is legitimate to debate whether it is sufficient to introduce them in MAC only (considering that nobody knows if/when MAC will be released). It is not a matter of what is right or wrong but what is more profitable for ED. IMHO.

 Don't worry, probably nobody else would be interested.

Dunno, sorry. I fly only the Tomcat ATM. All this discussion made me think again about this joke : 'DCS Supertanker' module. Actually, a module which adds helps to the AAR (like the supercarrier adds helps for carrier ops, like the IFLOLS) for all planes that can refuel, with good, complete training missions, well... I would be interested...
-
Mmmm... For the basket planes I agree because you have better visual feedback. But personally with the eagle (and boom planes in general) it would have helped me LEARN how to react to the guiding lights. Just like jester 'little left," ''little right', see. IMO a good AAR training mission should also insist heavily on TRIMMING. Anyway that's not the original topic, sorry about that.:)
-
True. Although I remember when I tried to learn AAr in the FC3 Eagle long ago (gave up - no problem with the hornet or the tomcat though) I could never remember what the guiding lights on the belly of the tanker meant. A training mission where a voice tells you 'a bit higher', 'a bit forward' and so on would have helped. Jester kinda does it in the Tomcat... And learnng the precontact procedure while playng is always more fun than watching a tutorial or reading a manual... Oh shit now all these memories of Jane's USAF are coming back...

When the probe is offset: can't you move your head laterally outside of the cockpit with 'camera views' or something so that it is aligned with the probe? And maybe display the infobar if you need it. I mean for training purposes only, of course, if that helps. I would also prefer visual and/or auditory aids for AAR, especially under the form of a ccomplete training mission (not just instant action) rather than a 'cheat' but I get the point of the casual players.

It is mentioned in the first post in https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=235229 I assigned key binds to indexer cw (ralt r) and ccw (rshift r) in the controls settings, but when I use them in game, the wheel that controls the indexer brightness does not move. It moves only when I click on it. I experience something similar with the instruments and console wheels. When I use key binds, they won't move past a certain setting. I have to click on them to move them all the way. In 2.5.5 these two wheels work fine. In 2.5.6 OB (updated today) that's three wheels that don't work (The ACM wheel works fine. I haven't rried the fifth wheel in 2.5.6 OB yet). Thanks in advance.
-
Except that the key binds for instruments and console wheels don't work properly anymore (and the key binds of the indexer wheel still don't work at all). Edit: I've just seen that the console/instruments bug is being tracked. Please add the indexer wheel bug to it.

I do not think that DCS has ever replayed correctly any one of the tracks that I have ever recorded. Typical case: 1 v 1 guns only. I shoot down the AI aircraft. In the replay, I shoot at clouds and the AI aircraft shoots me down.
