The land around Berlin is known to turn into a desert during draught. Actually there is a draught right now and today I took several photos that mostly show sand. It might not be well known but there are actual deserts in Brandenburg, like the Lieberoser Wüste which you will see if you fly from Berlin to Cottbus. They are just not big enough for people to die there, but can span some kilometers. null

that makes sense, the Messe in Leipzig is probably the least typical place in East Germany. Those are however no East German buses, they look like West-Berlin model. GDR Buses were Ikarus or Robur (Ello). The DDR Leitkegel also looked different, but that is pedantic The Litfassäule on the right is more like the real deal. null

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D vs AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Burning Bridges replied to MrReynolds's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I researched this topic over the last year, and it's rather complicated. What I am quite sure is that the 9800X3D is a safest bet and will work great because it is only 1 chiplet. The 9900X3D could be better under certain ciurcumstances but you'd need a lot more research. Both are rather overpriced at the moment though, so I'll wait until the end of the year. -
Something that perhaps isn't obvious is that East Germans were totally used to advertisement because most of them watched West German TV all day. As kids we were told that we must not sing the songs from those ads if the head of the school could hear it. I think the ads were for party members to show them that the GDR had something of their own. It also was promoting tourism and other products to West Germans who passed on the A2 from from Braunschweig to Berlin. This was the motorway West Germans took to get to West Berlin and the best Autobahn, because the West had paid for it. There wasn't really a point in advertising because there was no competition but I think it was the result of cultural influence, just like you saw western clothes and fashion, everyone who could afford them liked to show off with it. I remember seeing ads for cars but this was a bit of a joke, because if you applied for one you had to wait 16 years. That's why my parents ordered a car for me when I was born (this is no joke) and it would have been ready some time in the early 90s We once had a visitor group from our partner school in the USSR and we were stricly not allowed to talk to them. I think I gave the reasons above, they probably were told we were diligently learning Russian and striving to be great communists but the truth is that we would have culturally poisoned them.

You are correct about the Cyrillic, it was something that bothered me right away. The only Russians you saw were "CA" trucks with very unhappy looking Soviet soldiers and a terrible smell of Russian Diesel. Soviet soldiers were striclty forbidden to talk to East-Germans. But there was advertisement, for example on the Autobahn. ironically often for things you couldn't buy anywhere. here you find many photos: https://www.schnitzler-aachen.de/Sammlungen/DDR/Werbung/Autobahn.htm (the images seem to be from 1990 or from the transition phase. But there were ads for East German trade brands like ORWO or Pneumant on bridges during the socialist era I just cant find pictures of them)

South Atlantic Theater for CombatFlite
Burning Bridges replied to graveyard4DCS's topic in South Atlantic
can you sum up what this is about? CombatFlite link and it seems to be a mission planner for DCS. The site is lavish in detail but no overview what it actually is, sorry -
New Look and Feel for the South Atlantic map

OnReTech silence since early december?
Burning Bridges replied to LimePartician's topic in DCS: Sinai Map
could be that they're working .. but I'm afraid on a new map -
Priority: Low

of course! I can even run it on a i7 4790K with 80fps.

"working hard on a new project .. " I bet you are very excited about the new project am I right? Sure. One can never begin enough new things, and you can still finish the others at a later time. Priority: Low

May the estemeed developers live forever, for if someone dies it could set the project back by years.

Any info about the F-104 module development?
Burning Bridges replied to irisono's topic in DCS: F-104
They thought a downright firing ejection seat was still better than none at all. Nothing about ejecting from your aircraft with explosives is a brilliant idea, it is just the last straw anyway. -
This is an interesting question that comes up for a lot of new players. I think they are both great choices. Personally I went with the F-16. Expecting to be overwhelmed but it's easy to use and yet I could spend years learning it. I am amazed what a fantastic module I got. A new question that followed is wether I need the Hornet too .. I suppose I need to convince myself that I absolutely need carrier landings.

New Look and Feel for the South Atlantic map
Burning Bridges replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
I am a new owner and I also have to that say this map is awesome now. I did not buy it until now. I don't know what it was on release - I guess if people said it was bad they were right - but this is not true any more. The landscape looks so real at any altitude and surpasses the other sims, with the right (bad) weather it is shockingly realistic. South Atlantic map really deserves a second look by anyone now. All other maps are on the back burner since I discovered South Atlantic. I also have no fps issues whatsover, it runs at a solid 90 and just dips when I turn the view around, but returns to 90 as soon as I stop. -
It's very big and uses the latest DCS technology so it can look very good. It clearly involved automatic generation which saved a lot of time but also makes this one of the most generic maps. The developer did not correct even basic mistakes like wrong frequencies or a bullseye that's out of bounds so I would wait for any sign of progress. Right now it looks to me as if the developer is not professional but more like a group of modders who constantly begin new things before finishing others.

I will only speak in very broad terms here but to me it feels right that a lot of German weapons from 1944 on are hampered by inferior material, suboptimal production and low quality fuel. The planes had great potential but were produced, transported and maintained under atrocious conditions, constantly disrupted by air raids and prone to sabotage. Consequences were brittle Panther tanks or airplanes that could not run at peak performance, or only for a short time. Many people say it is a miracle the Germans even got so far under those conditions. The Soviets had faced the same problems during most of the war and only solved them with greater numbers and field improvisation. The Germans had no great numbers and only improvisation. No German weapon from 1944 will make you achieve ace status easily. You can of course knock down bombers with the A-8 or strike ground targets, if you can make it alive through vastly superior numbers of enemy fighters of better quality and with seasoned pilots, but the chances are supposed to be slim.

Anton needs modernization and love
Burning Bridges replied to Wacko_ZA's topic in DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Anton
Your cockpit mod is fantastic. I tried a few others but yours hit the spot. Thanks a lot! -
I understand as much that we get at least 1 big update and we should get it by summer / fall.

Priority is only High

Well, to follow your analogy the "cow" has been on the ice for 11 months without getting fed a single time. So maybe it isn't about getting it off the ice but about a cow cemetery some developers have on their balcony, because they only look once a year or two.
-
Can you give some of those reasons? For example why was the bullseye not fixed or why are the frequencies not updated? Those are mere text changes, countless people do them on their own, probably thousands of times, so why can this not be done once on the original data?
-
Yep it's about time. They could put it back on sale when they start releasing their first update. Right now it's a huge reputation hit and problem for everyone involved, other companies who are doing Early Access could find that it affects their sales too.
