  1. 355th is always recruiting. We have a nice bunch of very skilled pilots and mission makers and it's run in a very organized fashion without being overly "life" intrusive as I call it. We run ops on Sunday evenings at 2000 EST / 1700 PST, have a TS server, and we run a TRA map all week and host our ops; recently we also decided to step up and try our hand at Blue Flag. Operations usually consist of a 1-3 hour long co-op style mission, although we do run a weekend long co-op, sometimes longer, and we have invited other units to join us as well. Airframes wise we run all of them, depending on the op, but the misison writers are good about keeping everyone happy in that regard, tailoring/adjusting missions to the airframes people request on the even sign up page. EX: I fly Huey pretty much exclusively. If the op is a big heavy armor op the writers usually add enemy planes so I have to set up HAWK sites to protect our ground forces and bases, and of course CSAR. Really laid back unit but the "jet jerks" fly deadly serious, some of them having been in A-10's and Blacksharks since day one. Come check us out - http://355thvfs.enjin.com/forum If interested sign up or PM me. I can also be reached via Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198217536800/ ~Rob aka 355th Gunfighter
  2. You only added the half of my comment that served your agenda.... Original: "Also, your point about proper naval combat is null. They don't send the SH-60 out to kill ships any more then anyone else who has armed helicopters does" I fail to see how that was wrong? There is minor anti sub stuff in DCS, and aside from the super offensive DAP version of a -Hawk you wouldn't miss out on anything.
  3. Maybe you missed the point, it was a recruiting post for my unit, not looking to jump ship. 355th has given me a good home. ~S
  4. If that, here we go......So about that update?? ;-)
  5. Heyo!! Looking for some helicopter pilots to fly with me on Sundays. I currently am the sole regular Huey guy for each Sunday's op......I could really use the help!!! 355th is a loose knit unit, we run regular squadron ops on Sundays with scattered joint/opposing ops. More co-ops than the PvP. Anyone interested would be flying the Huey? No skill necessary, I can get you all trained up!! Hope to hear some peeps.!!!! 355th_Gunfighter
  6. "A SH-60 would be a first day pre-order, but until we have proper naval combat, whats the point?" The point is that the SH-60 is a utility helicopter like the Huey, depending how it's configured. Or it could be a gunship like the Huey, depending how it's configured. It might be configured to do both like the Huey, depending how it's configured. Also, your point about proper naval combat is null. They don't send the SH-60 out to kill ships any more then anyone else who has armed helicopters does; aside from anti-sub functions we wouldn't miss out on anything, but even this can be simmed to a small degree per the Argos campaign.....also in the Huey. The only difference is that you'd be operating from ships, which, and I can't stress this enough, the Huey also can do :-) That all said, I personally would love the see the PaveHawk variant, and if Sikorsky doesn't want to play nice then an A or B would be just fine!! :-) ~Rob
  7. Dang!! I thought I was the only one who still used CH gear lol...I LOVE my fighterstick USB!!
  8. Hawkeye - it is not compatible with JSGME :-( I got it to load, it would let me select player on the mission editor, but it would not let me access the cockpit as pilot. Is there any way that this could be turned into a JSGME mod as well for us stupid asses (namely me?) ~Rob
  9. Nice!! Thanks for the correction!!!
  10. Not sure if it's been brought up yet, and I would be surprised if it hadn't yet, but..... MIYF!!! MIYF!!!! MIYF!!!! MACE! In! Yo'! Face! VA-27, please please please!!!???!!
  11. Or MH-60!! (same whistle face) ~Rob
  12. Lookin' like a baller Dan!! And the model pics look really nice!! Thank you for posting! ~Rob
  13. "That is the thing, as many air forces will paint periodically or as required the cockpits to keep them clean and stress levels lower as spotting and operating them is better. It is like a cleaning the windshield that every ground crew chief should require as dirty cockpit visibility is no-go." Right, well, except that touching up paint is nothing like cleaning a clear surface. When you touch up paint it can go a few ways: 1) no prep - you end up with little ugly bubbles of paint, a touch up will have a hard edge and distinct line, no blending whatsoever, so harder to replicate in a sim 2) some prep - provided the area was big enough to actually put sandpaper to it, and I'm not so sure you would if the plane was not down hard for maintenance, and even then why would you make a mess like this in the cockpit, then you would get a better blended line, but with hand sanding you really don't get the quality "feathering" of old paint, especially in a rushed job. Pretty hard to replicate in a sim 3) The plane goes down for hard maintenance and someone pulls the panels out, disconnected everything, and properly preps, primes, and paints it. You'd get a fantastic factory finish......but I bet this almost never happens in a warplane since interior aesthetics are not an operational need, hence all the chipping and scuffs from gloves, watches, rings, zippers, boots, etc.... Also, with any touch ups and such you have to remember that these would be done most likely by a teenager who may or may not enjoy doing this kind of menial tasking (I know, I was there once or twice as a young SN in the USCG). Probably not a whole lot of effort going into it, and with improper clean up you get things like holidays, the paint fish eyeing because of leftover paint dust, on top of how paint really doesn't like to stick to aluminum, even when you use a primer with "teeth"....... I'm saying this because I would imagine that a brand new plane cockpit doesn't stay brand new very long. ~S
  14. "....... minus the Sea Knight,Osprey and the Twin Huey." I mean, if you're going to mention the N and the Sea Knight you might as well include planes like the Intruder as far as getting a full Marines airframe reunion..... ~S
  15. I'd probably do a cartwheel off of my balcony if this is real stuff.
  16. "I think the only thing they did to de-mill her was..... cut her wing spar" Single tear. Followed by another. And another.....
  17. Yes Taylor, please do!! I'd LOVE to fly this plane!!
  18. Jockey, real good read!! Thank you for posting. ~Rob
  19. Seen both of these Tomcats, I was a Surfman out at Cape Disappointment, and then Grays Harbor, WA, and you better believe I hit every museum I could find within a 300 mile radius lol..... The bird in Tillamook.....I had been around F-14's before, like on the Intrepid and the one at the Boeing Museum, but until I hopped on that crew ladder and looked back across the Tomcat in Tillamook I had no idea just how big that plane really is! ~S
  20. I'd rock it from the delta to the DMZ.........looks nice!!
  21. I've used it with a pilot in 1.5. We did it a little different than suggested, my gunner was in the slot as pilot 2 but didn't come in until I had a green bird. We've also had him join before I touched anything in the helicopter, and then both of us sat through a cold start, we found no problems there either.
  22. I was experiencing this last week lol...we ran an op and I was building a radar site on the highest peak near Vlad.....ran out of left pedal authority and was barely able to get my crates down safely. We also had a few downed pilots in the MT's there and I had to use a different technique to ensure I didn't wind up smashing myself all over the place.
