  1. +1 The S-3 would be a great addition to the fleets capability's. It would also be one of those unique airplanes that would attract new flight sim pilots to DCS that are not interested in combat roles but would be attracted to the aerial refueling, electronic warfare and surface surveillance roles. Even just having the S-3 implemented at first as a refueling tanker would be of great use as it would be the only flyable tanker and the only one ever capable of operating of an aircraft carrier in DCS.
  2. I recently had seen this very good breakdown complete with a visual aid on what would be the most likely parts of the world where the new map could take place. The video below is a MUST SEE. It stats at 12:25.
  3. I highly suggest hearing this podcast of an interview with Wags regarding future DCS projects. One of the questions he was asked is "what has been the biggest barrier in doing Eastern block aircraft?' https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/
  4. Oh, what you are looking for is a skin for the Su-30 then. You can find those by searching in the User files on DCS's website. Here is a link for the skin for the Indian airforce for the SU-30. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3164792/?sphrase_id=16906709 Here is the main search site: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/
  5. Here is a great interview with Wags from ED that talks about why Russian jets are not possible for them to do. But there is a chance for third party developers to do them. https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/
  6. I recently found this interesting video about how unique the Buccaneer was. The Commentator talks about it from the pilots seat giving a sense of how it was to operate it.
  7. For all of you that want modern Russian jets to come to DCS here is a great Podcast with Wags that explains why they are not possible for ED. https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/
  8. Ok lets get this straight once and for all. Yes, I know the F-117 was only capable of deploying laser guided bombs early on. The whole point of the article was to point out and compare that it was because of this sole and only capability that the F-117 uniquely possessed at the time to deploy LGB ( laser guided bombs) that could be self designated that were ideal for hitting moving targets. And because GPS guided bombs were not capable at the time to hit moving targets, could not be self designated and GPS signals could be jammed this only left aircraft capable of deploying LGB bombs the only tool available for such precision strikes. “GPS guided munitions, such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) are fire-and-forget weapons—once released, the launch aircraft can move to a safer position as the weapon flies to its target on autopilot. The launching aircraft can also release the weapon farther from its target as it doesn't have to designate the target itself. But GPS weapons have their limitations too. They don't provide as precise and dynamic targeting capability as LGBs, and above all else, they can't hit moving targets. Some of that is changing now as the latest generation of GPS enabled weapons is being built with multi-mode seekers that can autonomously track their targets if they move away from the original target area during the weapon's terminal attack phase. Networked weapons can also leverage offboard sensor data to remain honed in on their target even if it is moving to a new location. But these concepts are cutting-edge weapons technology today, and they really weren't available even a year or two ago. They also have their own limitations and are less suitable for making direct precision strikes on highly mobilized targets, and especially those in complex and dynamic urban environments or that exist under strict rules of engagement.”
  9. Although it would be nice to fly around the beautiful tropical scenery, such a map would realistically have a better chance of being made to the 1940's era theater. But until the F4U corsair and some sort of Japanese warbirds gets added to DCS there wont be an incentive or much of a push to do it.
  10. You are partially correct. The F-35 can deploy LGB munitions now but not in the past. But I repeat that I am in no way trying to say that I believe the rummers are true. I am just trying to get the point across that the F-117 still had certain unique capabilities that such a deployment could had been plausible. And because of such capabilities that made the F-117 so sensitive it could impact the possibility of a full fidelity module being developed for DCS. This is from another article. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/26728/lets-talk-about-the-rumor-that-f-117s-have-flown-missions-in-the-middle-east-recently "Quite frankly, it's also quite possible that if the F-117s were put back into service, the USAF wasn't who did it. A particular American agency may have instead. One that would have very limited, but essential use for such a unique assassination tool. While all of this sounds relevant and plausible, actually paying to get just a handful of these jets fully combat capable with at least some updated sensors (it's DLIR in particular) and other systems and deploying them halfway around the globe for very special and limited missions seems like a reach, but not one too far to fathom. Fast forward to 2019 and the Pentagon has once again regained its ability to laser-designate and attack targets with a stealthy penetrating airframe—the F-35. Not just that, but it also regained its ability to employ 2,000lb class weapons in a similar manner from that same 5th generation stealth tactical jet. As such, the need for F-117s would have come and gone, but this doesn't impact the timing of the Middle East deployment rumors, it actually fortifies them. Still, in the end, there is no evidence that the F-117 was sent back into combat in any form or magnitude. Zero. At the same time, there seems to have been a fairly good reason to do so, at least in small numbers. And these aircraft were mandated by Congress to be preserved at great cost for operational contingencies. Why do that if their unique capabilities couldn't be leveraged when needed. But without any evidence, all this is speculation, and it seems hopeful speculation at that. Clearly, there is an amazing amount of infatuation with the F-117 even a decade after it was officially retired. The fact that it is still flying in some form has only turbocharged that interest. So, we have to remain very skeptical of any grand claims or when rumors that didn't have enough evidence to justify printing them years ago are stated as fact when the F-117 hype is at its pinnacle today."
  11. While I understand your point being that they are just rumors. What I found the most interesting about the article was the reasoning of why the F-117 still has a special value and capability that the other modern stealth aircraft don't have. Below are just two of the top reasons that were mentioned in the article. 1st- Modern stealth strike aircraft mostly rely on GPS designation Which can be impaired by GPS jammers and they don't provide as precise and dynamic targeting capability as LGBs, and above all else, they can't hit moving targets. "When the USAF retired the F-117 it lost a number of capabilities. A stealthy tactical platform that could drop 2,000lb class bombs for instance. As far as we know, only the B-2 could do that mission after 2008, and at the time there were only 21 of them and they are limited operationally, especially in regards to how they are deployed." But - The B-2 "Can't employ LGBs, has no self designation capability, strategic asset, highly sensitive, basing/alert issues, etc etc etc" 2nd- The F-117 older tech makes it a less sensitive asset. "The F-117 has other advantages as well. Its radar signature and the technologies behind its design are far better known by the enemy than those of 5th generation fighters or cutting-edge stealth drones. Losing one in combat wouldn't result in a massive dump of extremely high-value intellectual property right into the enemy's hands. In fact, an F-117 has already been lost in combat and its carcass exploited for intelligence purposes. " And if you still don't believe it take it up with the Author, Tyler Rogoway. Tyler@thedrive.com He is one of the best knowledgeable authors I have found.
  12. I would like to see the F-117 in DCS one day but the unique technology that a stealthy attack aircraft would have would be of the most secure data to acquire to be able to do it right to DCS level. Even after the F-117 retirement a number of aircraft have been kept flight worthy and have been flown in Nevada. There has even been rumors that they have been used in special missions in Syria in 2016. For more info about it I highly recommend reading this recent article. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/26728/lets-talk-about-the-rumor-that-f-117s-have-flown-missions-in-the-middle-east-recently
  13. This reminds me of a similar situation that has happen with car racing sims. For the longest time EA games had exclusive rights to feature Porsche cars in their games. So when Gran Tourism wanted to include Porsche because they are all about featuring all of the best sport cars ever made in their game they turned to RUF to license Porsches built by RUF.
  14. I have not been able to find much information about what is necessary to have a friend join me as my RIO. It is not clear if a friend could just be able to join me in my F-14 without him having to buy the module or would he have to purchase and download his own F-14 first?
  15. The F-4E is already in the pipeline. It was put on hold to work on the F-16 first. But it would be great for the F-100 to be developed. It would be an instant hit with the older pilots that grew up in the era of Century fighters. Even over on the RC forums the F-100 has been one of the top requested jets to be made into a EDF jet model. https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc-airplanes/jets-and-edfs/92082-what-new-flightlinerc-or-freewing-model-would-you-like-to-see-come-next As a matter a fact one of the last EDF models that was released last year and has been a big hit was the F-4 Phantom.
  16. Thanks for pointing that out. But by this last comment it looks like they still would like to continue the Tornado project later on when things look more feasible. "join the discord we are still thinking about it but atm we have already started developing a new jet that is awesome and is one that many people want we still might do the tornado just at a later stage thanks for the support"
  17. For those of you interested in the Tornado GR4 Check this thread of someone that is trying to develop one and is seeking coders or any other help someone can lend. So as of now this is the best and only way the Tornado will come to DCS for the foreseeable future. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221698
  18. A while ago Razbam had asked their Facebook followers what non armed military airplane they would like to see come to DCS and the most suggested airplane was the C-130. So Razbam might already be looking into the development.
  19. This build looks pretty good to me. The plain 1660 is a bit out of date but not the 1660Ti. It performs somewhere in between old GTX 1070 and the 1070ti. You can check out some benchmark tests against other cards and a 1660ti review here.
  20. I would definitely recommend upgrading the Video card first with at least a GTX1660 Ti 6GB or go with a RTX 2060 6GB. After that I recommend just getting another 8GB stick of RAM that matches what you already have. There is no point in spending too much on RAM that would most likely not be supported with newer motherboards anyhow. As for the SSD I would also wait till you upgrade the motherboard so you can have the option to install a NVMe M.2 SSD that is even faster than a regular SSD.
  21. Have the days of the F-15's rain finally come to end for FC3 noobs seeking easy kills? Oh how glorious!
  22. This suggestion is so far feched that even Xion_x agrees it is not related and would not interest the core DCS player base. But everyone is entitled to express their dreams. So I recommend getting together with some other fans of fantasy games that are coders to create your own maps and assets.
  23. DCS will never be terminated because it is already very successful as it is. There are a lot of people out there that are very content with what DCS offers. There are even people that all they do in DCS just fly from one point to the other and hardly fly combat missions. How ever I do respect you wishes for your dream simulator. So the next best and REALISTIC way to achieve it will be to either learn to develop your own mods for DCS or just start your own company to develop your own ideal simulator.:smilewink:
  24. I don't think that even the PS5 would be capable of running DCS at its full potential. If anything a simplified version of FC might be possible because it would target a better demographic that expects a simple easy to play games. The reality of it is that the console and PC markets are very different markets as others have stated here. My last console was a PS3. I was going to get a PS4 after they had launched but at the time I needed a new PC mostly for college work. So I decided to just get a gaming PC as it would be more useful because it fulfilled two needs. After discovering the perks of PC gaming I have not had a need for a console since then. Each platform has its cons and its pros. So I recommend just getting a gaming PC and later on you can get a PS5 when it has been out for a while and has come down in price.
  25. It is because of that crappy movie that me and many others have become interested in the A-6. You should be happy that a movie of the A-6 was even made before it was retired. And now I would love to see the Intruder come to DCS some day as it would be one of the best multicrew attack aircraft that is carrier ops capable. P.S. Now i might consider reading the book. :smilewink:
