Yeah, the labels have been very dim for a while now. I used to use them to help me out in certain situations but they're far less useful now. I haven't found any options to brighten them up at all. I think we're stuck with hurting our eyes trying to see them. :P

I think more FC style modules would be cool
kelpie replied to aidanw2000's topic in DCS Core Wish List
If a person doesn't have time it's not because they are doing anything wrong. People have jobs, families, school, etc. Not everyone has time to learn sophisticated controls on every aircraft that comes around. As for getting bored, some people need something simple and introductory to get their interest. Not everyone start off from birth as hardcore sim pilots. As far as ED not doing any more FC version of planes; that's their call. We, as customers, reserve the right to let them know that at least some of us wouldn't mind a few more simplified aircraft. -
Ok, thought it might have been a typo but wanted to make sure. :smilewink: I haven't found any more information about this type of problem. Everything points to a texture issue but, as you said, you had a friend copy his files so that's not it. I'll keep looking. Hopefully we'll come up with something.

I noticed an issue while experimenting with the RN-24. If I drop it on a city all ground units (infantry and watch towers) survive and so do I. But if I drop it on an airfield most of the buildings, all units on the airfield and myself are vaporized the second it detonates. The plot is thicker than we first believed. But, the truth is out there! :ufo:

I agree with the "baby steps" part. I started off with FC3 and worked my way through the others. I'm not sure how feasible it would be for ED or their partners to make an FC version and a full fidelity version of each plane. That's a lot of work that can be put to use on new modules. That being said I'm all for FC versions of planes that are difficult or impossible to get the information for full fidelity. I would really like to see more 4th Gen Russian and Chinese planes developed but those can't be done full fidelity due to politics and legal issues. FC versions are the best we can hope for really. -
Oh, I'm always vaporised after dropping the bomb. :P I'm just glad I can use it now. :smilewink:

Yeah, I tried all of those scenarios, but the only one that seems to work is to have the ground crew load it after mission start. :smilewink: Seems that the bug affects spawning with the RN no matter where you are. It seems that it has to be loaded by the ground crew in order for the IAB to be visible.

Yup, that's exactly where I was looking. :P If you have the texture file then it should be showing up (from my understanding). I'll keep looking and researching to see if I can find anything new to help. ;) is it .bms.dds or .bmp.dds? :P Mine is .bmp.

Good call, Werewolf. I just tried it out and sure enough the box popped up. :D

I remember having this issue before and we had to wait for, then, Leatherneck Simulations to fix it. Since the split there hasn't been much in the way of updates or fixes for these issues by Magnitude. I still fly the plane quite a bit but it does leave me worried about the module. Not so much that there hasn't been an update for a while; but the fact that we've only had silence from Magnitude. :(

I just tested my installation of 1.5.7 and 2.1.1. the Nuke model is there but, as with Frederf, the IAB control box is missing. I also can't get a detonation from the nuke, although that could simply be because I can't see if the switches are in the right position for a drop or not. So far repairing the install hasn't fixed the missing IAB box. Have you tried it for the missing Nuke? :( I just thought of this: Take a look at your Mig21 texture file (it shows as a zip file). Do you see the RN-24 and RN-28 textures there?

Very nice story. :smilewink: There's no such thing as a cheap shot in combat. That was definitely one splash for you and I'm sure the F-5 pilot learned from it too. :smilewink:
-
Good advice as always, Asla. :D What's your most memorable dogfight in the 21? :smilewink:
-
Thanks for sharing your Mig-21 story. You must be better at A2A than me. :P Right now I can only take down an AI F-5E if I sneak up behind him and get him with 2 R-60s. :P If I go head to head or launch an R-3 I lose every time.
-
Just to be clear I'm not asking for help (although giving advice to other players is always welcome). This is supposed to be a fun thread where we can share our stories in the Mig-21 (both successes and faliures). So be kind and don't criticize how others fly. ;)

Yup, the F-15 is a hard one to go against but I'm sure there are pilots who have. :D Out turning an F-5 is suicide. :P Best to out run them it seems. Awesome video. :smilewink: Keep the speed up and run around in a circle until you catch up. Very nice tactic. :D ________________________________________________________________________ Let's hear some stories about how everyone uses the Mig-21 in a fight. :D I know there are good stories out there. :P My story: I went head to head with an F-5 over the highest mountain peaks. I launched an R-3 at him but missed so I tried to follow him and went into a sharp turn. My turn bled off too much speed and I started to stall out. I recovered that time and turned the other way to catch him in his turn but ended up stalling and flying into a mountain. :megalol: It was a long walk home from the top of that mountain.

We don't have that weapon in 1.5.7 or 2.1 (I looked through the encyclopedia three times). It's definitely not an R-77. It does look similar to the R-33 but it's not that either. They could be from a mod of some kind. I can't say for sure though.
-
CALLING ALL MIG-21 PILOTS!!!! :D Going against a B-52 is a piece of cake. :smilewink: But the real question is: how do you survive a dogfight? Sharp turns and snap maneuvers spell doom for a Mig-21 that stalls and plummets to the ground below. How do you beat this and keep up the fight against that nimble F-5 or powerful F-15? :D
-
That's great. :D As long as my internet connection is ok I'll be there. :D
-
I'm downloading it right now. :D I'm trying to make my first skin for the F-5 but it's not working. :P I used Photoshop to edit the template. GIMP to convert the PSD to DDS. and Notepad++ to make the directory.lua but I can't get it to show up as an option in the ME. :P
-
Nice. :D I'll start trying it out in a bit. :D
-
That is absolutely beautiful. What software did you use to make the skin? I was hoping to try my hand at making skins for several planes but I have no idea how to do it or what software I would even need.

On the topic of Iranian Tomcats & Russian Weapons
kelpie replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's alright. :smilewink: Get the important stuff done first. We can wait as long as it takes for extra stuff if you decide to add it in. :D
