  1. After reading about the various... estimations...in the upcoming F-35 flight model, I can't help but think that introducing a little bit of estimating in the F-5's flight model to help with the wing snapping behavior is a reasonable fix for this fatal flaw. After all, the F-5 doesn't have a history of this behavior, and to have it snap at a higher g factor (say, between 10.5 and 12.5, depending on loadout) could be done, and no one would shed a tear.
  2. You can adjust the curves so that by turning your head 30⁰, you'll be looking directly behind you (180⁰). Makes for a little more sensitivity/jitteriness, but even that can be smoothed out with sample rate.
  3. Combining a roll with a pitch maneuver is a common reason for wing snap. The official -1 prohibits this. Roll to the angle you want, stop the roll, then pull up. When you need to roll again, release the back pressure on the stick (maintaining your current pitch angle), and then roll.
  4. Just need a giant fan and a net! And of course an enclosed sim-pit!

  5. Lots of mountains, glaciers, and forests....I'd say it was Kola map (I don't have that one yet, though). No idea which airport it was. maybe post this in the maps section?
  6. Try it with the updated F-5 disabled. My experience was the update would give me anywhere from 25-45 fps on my system (triple screen, with a dozen mods, SP), and after disabling the FPS went to 75-90 (capped at 90).
  7. The remastered seems to be the one that's affected. If you go to "module management" in the game (upper left corner, 3x3 icon) you can deactivate the F-5E module, restart the sim and then you have the original F-5E3 back.
  8. Fwiw, my TM warthog has a +/- 80⁰ total range of motion (pitch)...40⁰ forward, 40⁰ aft. I am looking forward to replacing it with an FFB stick. I also flew a bit today with the flaps in the "locked up" position, I was able to consistently hit 8g's with no breaking of wings (2x mk82, 2xFFAR rocket pods). F-5 upgrade.
  9. Half the aircrew of a B-52 still goes "down and out"....
  10. LOL..."elbow and shoulder"? So flying a sim for you is more like full contact wrestling? If you have real-world experience in the F-5E, you can legitimately say you "fly the plane as it's built"...as it is, you have learned how to fly the DCS interpretation of the F-5 "as it's built" which is not accurate to the actual aircraft (based on following the "wing snapping" issue for awhile now). I also have learned how to fly the DCS F-5....with light loads on the wings, minimal g's when climbing OR turning (never both at the same time), gentle pullout after a dive, seat-mounted stick, a 4" extension and a gentle touch to the stick. I'd rather be able to fly the F-5 hard and fast, like the A-4 or F-4....but that's not possible at this time. Incidentally, what curves do you use?
  11. As I understand it, the old F-5 is not "removed", it's just essentially deactivated....and you can reactivate it by simply _deactivating_ the new F-5. And vice-versa. This is how myself and others are experiencing the full-fidelity F-5 module.
  12. Mainly I'm looking for if an FFB stick would help reduce either the onset of a snap, or (better) the snap itself. I can't control what ED does or doesn't do, but I can control what I do to reduce the risk of over-stressing the wings.
  13. Just curious at this point, but I suppose we should look into this... Please reply with what joystick or base you use, FFB used or not, and whether or not you experience wing snap. I use a TM Warthog w/F18 stick, and although I can avoid snap at easy conditions, in a high stress environment (combat) snap happens every time.
  14. Is it just me, or are the two air vent ducts to the pilot's left look more chrome than brushed aluminum? This sorta jumps out at me everytime I get in the plane...
  15. You can get the old F-5E-3 back, just deactivate the updated one in the list of downloaded modules.
  16. Don't have an FFB, it seems like most snaps happen with relatively heavy loads. 2x AIM-9's + 2x Mk82 usually don't snap unless I do some really crazy maneuvers. Loaded with 2x Mk83s and a Mk84 on centerline and I'm flying on eggshells...
  17. That'd be my advice as well. I went in with full trust thinking "ooh man, this is gonna be great!" but afterwards...eh, I like the skins I had (and still have them, but no way to use them) Back up your original F-5E-3 files!
  18. The new one looks quite...aged. Which I don't mind, it is well done, but I noticed the red covers on switches is more like a dark red/maroon-ish color. Sunlight reflections are kind of bright, as well. It'll take time to adjust to this new "reality." Bindings are all there, yay!
  19. I went to the ME and found there's 3 F-5's... F-5E (AI only dimmed) F-5E-3 (highlighted if in your possession, this is the new one, player/client/AI) F-5E FC (dimmed, but this is the old one, and it still has your saved games extra liveries, player/client/AI, fwiw I don't have FC 2024.) Please double-check the order of these in the ME. Easy to swap out the new for the old and vice-versa. Correction: Even though you can change to the old F-5E-3, it won't actually show up when you select the mission.
  20. Cool, thank you! Still, "spring stop" (before one "goes beyond" via the L key) is the limit given at the end of the "abrupt deflection", which is a prohibited maneuver.
  21. This F-5E/F-4F flight manual is dated 1 Aug 1978, so it should be ok to link. Under "Prohibited Maneuvers" it says "Entering full deflection (to spring stop)...abrupt aileron rolls at...greater than 5.0 g without pylon stores or 1.0 g with pylon stores." Spring stop, iirc, is not the floor of the cockpit, it is when the stick is pushed to either side and the spring stop makes the pilot encounter more needed force to roll even faster. Most sim sticks don't replicate this, so it is very easy to exceed the "spring stop" deflection. "Abrupt" doesn't mean instantaneous, it means sudden or more quickly than normal. How much is that? I don't know, but it sounds like "slow and smooth" in roll maneuvers is the way. 5.0 g is an important limit without stores. 1.0 g (one point zero) is even more important because it is with stores. I can confirm that with heavy stores the wings come off almost spontaneously with any roll/pitch combination.
  22. Not all aircraft have the same features, nor do they all need the same upgrades. Look at the F-5's upgrade and decided if it, by itself, is worth it.
  23. You can work around the release by only selecting the pylon(s) you want to drop....even so, dropping in pairs keeps balance and helps with the inaccuracy of the aiming method.
  24. Additional sound effects: Saltine cracker snap upon wing failure. j/k Looking forward to getting this!
  25. That's it, you got it. Be gentle when lifting off the ground, it's very easy to get a tail strike. Once off the ground immediately raise the gear, then flaps. Overspeeding the gear is right near the takeoff speed.
