  1. So, I was browsing the web and I found this: http://www.popularmechanics.com/flight/a25827/why-runways-should-be-round/ This sounds like an utter cluster****! :megalol: I wonder what it would be like to fly an approach on a runway that was round. And the article suggests that multiple aircraft might occupy the same runway at the same time!
  2. I am assuming that the AV-8 will have a pretty hard cap on the weight it can carry and still perform a vertical takeoff. Was it common/possible in real life for AV-8s to VTOL with a reasonable combat load? The AV-8 seems to open up some interesting possibilities for combat scenarios particularly in regards to road operation, but from fields and helipads? For that matter, can weapons be deployed in VTOL mode True Lies style? :D Seems like a cool bird, and judging from the pre-alpha cockpit footage, a complex one at that. I am looking forwards to having another jet with a modern feeling cockpit to muck around in.
  3. I find that when I turn too far I loose control of the front wheel. You should probably be careful of this, because if you loose control of the front wheel, you could get stuck. Also, bind keys to the left and right brakes in case this happens. F-86 is a pain on the ground.
  4. I was flying out in the f-86 the other day and I encountered two MiGs. They seemed to not see me so I tried to engage. They maneuvered defensively when I got near, but couldn't get behind me. However, despite not being hit, during a maneuver I heard a bang, my engine stopped producing thrust, and my wheel doors fell off. My EGT and RPM were fine, but I could not accelerate. I glided to a friendly air-base, and made an atrocious emergency landing, skidding sideways to a stop on the grass at the end of the runway. Don't know what happened, but it was fun anyways. I love DCS Korea, and I wish more people did. I love the way the jets are stuck using nothing but fairly weak and close range guns, as it leads to longer more drawn out fights. You have to get in close, and even then you are not guaranteed the kill. I love the furballs that can last for minutes at contrail altitude. Overall the combat feels more tactile then present day, and it is not as frustrating because you don't normally get eliminated before the merge. I love my M2K, but it is no fun to get a spamram shoved up your anus unexpectedly! :D
  5. I love the MiG-21, she is a beast, but I don't do that well fighting in her. I get my ass handed to me by AI F-5Es if I don't kill them at range. I think the MiG-21 has a fair amount of power, so trying to go vertical to avoid straight turn fights might be best.
  6. The F-5 is a great jet to start off with, but if you want something similar to FC3, just with realistic flight and systems, then get the M2000C. The Viggen is quite complicated as is the A-10, but they are rewarding to fly. The M2K is equipped with bombs, rockets, semi-active radar guided missiles, and IR guided missiles. The A-10 has laser guided bombs, optically guided missiles, conventional (dumb) bombs and rockets, and IR missiles. The Viggen has conventional bombs and rockets, optically guided missiles, RC missiles flown by the pilot, radar guided anti-shipping missiles, INS guided gliding sub-munition dispensers, and IR missiles. The Viggen is the most interesting aircraft in DCS (My opinion) with the most varied weapon selection. The M2K is the most capable air to air, and the A-10C is the most capable air to ground, and the most complex. All of them are must buys eventually, but I would not recommend starting off with the A-10C unless you are a masochist. Start off with the M2000C or the F-5E.
  7. I find that using a PC game controller is a fantastic addition to my setup. You can use the joysticks for the TGP on the A-10, or for practically anything else. You also get a bunch of nice, color coded buttons to use. I have got a lot of use out of mine, and I am not sure how many others have thought of using this particular method.
  8. Buy it. You'll be surprised, she'll grow on you. I love flying it, and the cockpit is actually easy to learn, once you get used to the overly complex weapons control systems. Most of the switches are just circuit breakers, much like the Mi-8. Not easy to fly, but rewarding none the less.
  9. Interesting. These seem to have more to do with the buildings and terrain objects. I wonder if anyone has attempted to improve/modify the Black Sea map other then just the basic re-texture.
  10. Same goes for aircraft, to a degree. I know that the full flight and system modeling of DCS third party aircraft are only available to third party devs. Making a map is far from easy, but I would think it would take less time then re-creating an aircraft to exact specifications. I wish more third parties were interested, for the reasons stated above. Possibly ED isn't willing to give out the toolkit to a third party at the moment, which might explain why we don't see any maps being developed outside of ED. But then again, I know quite little so this is just speculation.
  11. How are maps made for DCS? What tools are used, what is required, ect... I am curious because it seems like not too many maps are being made for this game compared to the amount of aircraft being made. It seems like we would have more by now then just what ED is working on. Frankly the Black Sea map looks like hell, and honestly the auto-gen in x-plane 11 looks better at times. I wish there were third party devs making maps for DCS, and I would love to see Vietnam, Korea, and the middle east/Africa. I have never seen any modded terrains either. I feel like at this point the lack of map variety is the single thing holding DCS back, as we have a collection of the most badass and beautifully created sim aircraft available. I look forwards to Normandy and the Strait of Hormuz, but I would love to be getting more. I know it is probably just fantasy, but having an auto-gen world map like x-plane's would be fantastic. Does anyone know more about this process?
  12. I love the door gun on a Cessna.
  13. Trying to use the gazelle is a headache because you can get shot down by laser guided sniper 11 atgms through the trees you are trying to hide behind.
  14. I find that when I am trying to use the RB-15 missile in unconfined area attack mode (80002), the missile will make a 90 degree turn away from the target at about 2 kilometers out and proceed to fly to what I can only assume is it's self district way point. The missile works fine when I am using the standard mode. Glitch or mistake on my part?
  15. What procedure would you recommend for re-arming in the viggen?
  16. I did have the Nav Sys warning, but I re-armed on the same runway I took off from. I shut everything down, and then told the computer to load the data again. All my other nav way-points were in the proper spots, the only issue was the Bx way-points.
  17. I love both, but the MiG is more capable. Between the rockets, bombs, air to ground missiles, and BVR capability, the MiG shines above the F-5 as a multi-role aircraft. The F-5 has nicer radar, and it is better in a close in dogfight. The F-5 also has the ease of use factor, but this stems largely from simplicity. I love they way the it flies, and it is clear why it has been used as an aggressor so much, but it is also clear why the US mostly used them as trainers or export aircraft, and used the F-4 and others as their mainline aircraft. In DCS, both are modeled fantastically by their respective developers, and I love both.
  18. I heard the PC was going through some internal restructuring. How is this going? We haven't heard from them for a while, so I am just wondering whats going on. I love the gazelle and I am looking forwards to their other projects, so I hope they can get back on track soon.
  19. I am learning to use the RB-15 missile, and I have discovered an issue. When I first fired the missiles, everything was fine; they tracked to their target, and hit. However, after I returned to base and re-armed, the BX-8 way point was 100 km out at sea, and the BX-7 way point was >400 km inland. Why did this happen? neither of the way points were anywhere near where they had been the first time, nor were they near any of my standard or target way points. Is there any way to reset these way points to close enough so that I could actually set them to the correct locations?
  20. France and England never used to get along. Maybe they will revisit some of their previous disagreements.:music_whistling:
  21. From what I can tell, Normandy will work well with modern jets, and it hasn't changed enough to break immersion. My one concern is runway lengths and quality not being able to handle some of the aircraft. (MiG 21 and SU-25 on landing) Luckily, I think the Viggen will be fine!
  22. How might I do this? It tells you the public IP when you create the room, and that is the one we have been using. As far as I can tell, there is no way to see the IP once the room has loaded up.
  23. Its also worth noting that both of us can join random servers just fine.
