  1. How can I modify specifics in the load of the P51, in the mission editor I get options for fuel amount (0-100%) and for the weapons. What I want to do is give the aircraft droptanks, which I can't find anywhere, and have different fuel loads in different tanks. My aim is to shift the centre of gravity towards the rear and experiment with the stall and spin characteristics of the aircraft (if they are complete/approximated at near completion that is).
  2. Regarding Yoyo's post: "Yep, aha, I know some of these words." :smartass: I know exactly what you mean, coming from ROF and Il2 (ROF doesn't even simulate engine heat due to mixture settings) DCS is just incredible.
  3. Yeah, by EGT I meant exhaust gas temperature. It's the gauge I'm used to IRL (I fly cheap planes). I can see how CHT wouldn't be effective in the P51, I still have much to learn regarding the working of this aircraft. I have to get the manual printed soon.
  4. Exactly, I'd love to see a "damage summary" and be able to test it out.
  5. Probably referring to EGT or CHT. CHT is the "purer" of the two.
  6. Testing the aircraft's engine system, through stress and failure. I'm looking to stress and cause fault in the engine, so far I've already attempted to caused damage through excess temperatures, pushing the oil temperature up off the scale I observed no damage (WIP apparently). However I'd like to test other things, the mixture control appears to be automatic, so how can I test detonation (overly lean mixture) effects? As well as this I'd like to force high manifold pressure, how could I do this (High throttle plus overly agressive prop pitch doesn't seem to work). I'd love to find other ways to cause failures, so if you have any other input into the other systems (hydraulic or general airframe) please post here. I'm currently looking at cascade effects of failure using the inbuilt failure system, although it feels sorta cheap. Oh, I'm also trying to figure out the effects of icing, but I believe the P51 is fuel injected so this is harder to investigate. I find that the way things fail is the most telling part in figuring out how something works, hence why I'm so fascinated in this.
  7. Well, thanks for wrapping that up (all of you). I'll get downloading DCS:BS1 and get everything working. Just a note if an ED person sees this, make this a little more clear please?
  8. Ok, so, related problem. I bought DCS:BS1 and then the upgrade to DCS:BS2. It seems like DCS:BS1 is not downloadable anymore, so I downloaded DCS:BS2 for DCSW, unfortunately the key for the upgrade does not work for the full version (dangit!). What am I meant to do here? I was thinking of downloading DCS:BS1 as a standalone, and then patching it to BS2, would that incorporate it into DCSW?
  9. Ah, good to know it's still WIP in that respect. I thought I'd set up the options wrong! Flew for 20-30 minutes in fast forward with all the shutters closed. Everything went off the charts but it flew fine! Can't wait for all the little engine doohickeys to be figured out, so that we have to master not just the airframe but the beast that powers it.
  10. I've got the opposite problem, even by closing the radiators and forcing the engine *way* off the charts (in temperature) nothing happens. Fast forward 10-20minutes.. no change.
  11. Couple of things from someone who mainly flies WW2/WW1 flight sims. Don't go in a straight line, follow landmarks (such as the coast, a line of houses, a forest border etc) and leapfrog along them. Make sure you know what you'll encounter as you go along, look at key shapes and features before you get flying.
  12. Bwahahaha, that's fantastic. Solid science there.
  13. I believe pulling certain Gs will cause the autopilots to disengage, this can be observed by checking the lights (if forced off they will flash). Turn them off and on again and the systems should come back, if this is not the case RTB.
  14. Welcome! If you have any questions... be sure to ask!
  15. Cheers, it didnt go away (did a full start up waiting for it to vamoosh). Deleting it did the trick, thanks for the help! And I am off to fly em! :D
  16. Thank you! That was my main problem with it, I always got my scale wrong and ended up feeling like I was very low to the ground and the tanks were the size of household cats... very disconcerting.
  17. I am having a -very- annoying issue wherein your readme displays across the screen upon mission launch. To demonstrate I have taken a screenshot of the start of one such mission, this happens in mp and sp and appears 1/2way through the "Please wait" loading section. Dragon, you are probably the best mission maker out there and I REALLY want to give these a shot! The problem: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/37/dcs2011080120101922.jpg/
  18. superb, one of the best LO films I have ever seen!
  19. amount of foliage in afg/Iraq? THIS is GEORGIA we are flying in NOW! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/Georgian_mountains.jpg It's one of the most forested places in earth! Unfortunately in game the ground is just smoothness, In real life (I just got back from there) it is bush, heath, hedges and other stuff, nothing like in the sim.
  20. hahaha, It's actually a really old name, I now go by Peregrine7. 6x7=42 and I just like the two numbers (especially 7 :)).
  21. Hi there Stefan, welcome to DCS! lets see: 1) To avoid getting shot down by SAMs fly HIGH, very high. If they are bugging you, go ahead and hunt them down, just make sure you have enough left to take on those tanks afterward, it's your call. 2) Once again, make sure you take your wingman up high, and tell him to engage air defenses with longer range weapons (laser guided bombs from high alt for example) then go in with mavs. 3) Just to be a bit more precise, does it lag when in the enemy zone if you look at the sky (no enemy units)? If it does lag when looking away, your CPU is having trouble with the AI. If it doesn't lag when looking away, you GPU is most likely to blame (I am not too great when it comes to knowledge of how this sim works, so just guessing here). 4) Depends on your country, just make sure you have Teamspeak and a good mic, this makes everything much more fun. Most people here only fly multiplayer because nothing beats flying with friends. Make sure you are at least slightly knowledgeable, they can teach you the rest (part of what makes the game great, learning from others). If anyone has something else to add, go ahead (I probably haven't covered everything). See you in the skies! :smilewink:
  22. How about this: Heat is the amount of particle movement (subatomic) in a material and can be perceived by either sensing the heightened energy (you feel heat) or by picking up the EMR coming off the material (IR waves created by the moving particles). Is that about right? (just guessing here, never done thermodynamics etc) I think a very good indicator of what it would be like is to imagine touching the objects. We are in georgia here, a reasonably cold country. Imagine touching: -The ground vs A soldiers body/face. -A tree (trunk/leaves doesn't matter) vs the side of a (metal tank) or even the exhaust areas (ouch!) etc I think you will agree that there will be a large difference in temperature, that will be picked up by the IR sensor so if you can feel the difference you WILL see the difference. (that is what the IR sensor is there for anyway). Also... why is it always slightly out of focus, just seems weird... just my input
  23. ah, he speaks of visual 3d there, while I can't say what may be the problem, apart from the new dx11 dependencies possibly not being recognised by your 3d program or something, I am curious as to what setup you are using... What mode are you using for viewing, and which program?
  24. I wish they were to fix ATC with ALL the proper options, ATIS and all. Also squawk codes etc, emergency landing, having the runway on a different frequency to taxi control and being able to acknowledge or ask a repeat when it comes to commands. Its fairly simple scripting isn't it? I wouldn't know.
  25. why did you replace 18 with XX? ;)
