  1. I'm confused. How did we get from all the examples using Varizani (spelling?) to Guduata? At which base did the incident occur?
  2. Wow! Nine pages of "I get stuck in the grass because DCS made the taxiways too narrow." Is the SU-27 spawning at that airfield during a mission or on a multiplayer server? If it is, then the the mission or MP server must be changed to a different airfield that can support the SU-27. I'd suggest that it isn't the fault of DCS if an airplane is spawned on an airfield that's too small for it. You wouldn't try to taxi, takeoff, or land a B-52 at a regional airfield would you? Look at the Airbus 380, there are many international airports in the U.S. (and the world) that can't handle that airplane. Do you try to use one that isn't suitable, or do you just use the ones that are? Don't blame DCS; blame whoever decided to spawn the SU-27 at that airfield. BTW, after I learned to taxi, I haven't ever run off the taxiway with an F-86, MiG-15, F-5, P-51, Spitfire, or FW-190 (even with the differential braking). I sometimes do run off the taxiway in a Huey or Gazelle, but that's just because I suck at taxiing those helicopters. Give it a rest!
  3. While I understand that this protection system is a work-in-progress, I can give a reason why offline play without an Internet connection shouln't be disabled if there is no "phone home" within X number of days. I'm retired and living on a fixed income. It is possible that I could need to suspend my ISP for a month or two to use that money for something else. Since I love DCS, I'd want to continue to fly missions or campaigns offline. With the modules suspended after a time if no "phone home" is made, I couldn't do that. My suggestion is a "phone home" verification when online, but don't disable the modules for offline use.
  4. Is there a ground attack training mission for the MiG-15bis? If there is, that might help.
  5. I have the Museum Relic Campaign, and it is awesome! The maker, Apache600, starts you off slowly, and gradually ramps up the difficulty level. Although I haven't gotten to them yet, I understand that the missions that depend on navigation are really top notch. Apache600 is an airline pilot and really works you with basic navigation. The campaign missions even include the ability to select an "autocomplete" within the first seconds of the mission in case you just can't complete the mission. Almost every comment on the campaign in the campaign section says how this is the best campaign out there at this point in time. All for less than the cost of a single meal on a night out in most places. You should do all of the training missions for the F-86 or MiG-15 at the very least before doing the campaign. They will help. I have both the Sabre and the -15, and will be doing the campaign with both. Do yourself a favor and read the threads in the campaigns section. Again, the designer is Apache600.
  6. There are some missions that come with the F-86 module, but no campaign. If you're interested in a campaign, check out the $9.99 (U.S.) downloadable campaign "Museum Relic" by Apache600. It's in the download section of the main DCS website where you bought your F-86. Most of the of the comments I've read by folks who have bought it are that it's the best campaign they've ever played. You might also want to check out the multiplayer server "Korea 1952." It uses four airplanes; F-86, MiG-15bis, F-51 (redesignated P-51), and TF-51. It's missions are basically air-to-air and air-to-ground (F-86 and MiG-15), recon and air-to-ground (F-51), and recon (TF-51). The TF-51 is lighter, faster, more maneuverable, and has better visibility than the F-51 because of the lack of guns on-wing armament. The server is a lot of fun and very immersive. Just be sure you're able to takeoff and land, navigate, and communicate. It also doesn't use labels.
  7. Well, what it comes down to as specified in the OP's first post, he won't be using rudder pedals so the stick MUST HAVE A TWIST GRIP. The thread has tended to deviate from the original parameters and is devolving into a battle of which is better and why. Which sticks or H.O.T.A.S. have a twist for rudder control?
  8. The sceneVR lua file creates the view of the SU-27 that you see when you start up DCS in VR. If you delete sceneVR from your Scripts/Demoscenes, I assume you'd just see the splash screen with your menu. The SceneVR file will be regenerated by DCS during an update.
  9. While DCS doesn't have any flyable Soviet props, I noticed that the LA-9 and LA-11 look a lot like the Fw-190. Perhaps a -190 could be reskinned and used in place of an LA-9 or LA-11 for the Soviet (er NK) recon. The LA-9 and LA-11 are of the correct time frame (1946 and 1947 respectively), and were used during the conflict.
  10. While I completely understand the desire for authenticity, I prefer it myself, I have been flying recon missions on the blue side in the F-51. I'm a total noob, and presently depend on the F10 marker in the mountains where most of my flights occur. As a former (preGPS) USMC Rifle Platoon Sgt. and Weapons Section Leader (machine guns, 60mm mortars, and antitank assault) I'm quite good with map and compas and terrain appreciation, but without significant time to study a map of those mountains, with assigned checkpoints, I feel that even I would have a major problem flying recon without F10. I don't think I'd have much of an issue with checkpoints though. In real life, no one on the ground or in the air conducts a recon patrol without preplanned checkpoints. How about making F10 optional or creating formal recon missions?
  11. Good afternoon SeaQuark, I received your invite on Discord. My better half has some plans for this afternoon, but I'll try to make it in a mustang (event is 1600 here). If I remember correctly, TP-51 controls have no weapons controls, correct?
  12. When I was a Staff Sergeant in the USMC, I was able to cure some of the more intelligent offenders by telling them that "Profanity is a sign of a weak mind attempting to forcibly express itself." When my young son dropped an "f-bomb" at the dinner table one evening, I casually remarked that "There are 25 cent words and 50 cent words and there are words that you will pay me 5 dollars for using, and that's one of them." I've not heard him cuss since then, and he's 26 now. My seemingly OT point here is that the Squadron Leaders have to police the actions that are distasteful to members of their Squadron, just as they do in the military.
  13. Thank you SeaQuark! As I'm sure you know, I made my suggestions before I met up with you on the server yesterday. The part about the Discord setup that confused me and prevented me from connecting to the server was that the Discord invite connection window was asking for the identifier in the format of "#name." I finally figured out that the server's" indentifier is the letters at the end is the URL (CasE SENsitive). I'm very grateful for the mission we flew together and the guidance you gave me on using the comms and communicating during the mission. I'm very glad that channels "C" and "D" are now available in the -51.
  14. First off, what an awesome server! I've flown twice on it; once in my F-86F, and the other time in my P-51. I have to assume that it isn't necessary to request startup, and taxi instructions using the F10 tower selection, because I've not received a response on either F5/F1/F3, or F10 Tower. Now I just startup and roll out of the hanger. I actually have P-51 radio buttons set up on my Warthog throttle mic hat switch with the PTT, and can dial in the different presets on my F-86F radio. I really liked being directed to enemy infantry by Boston, and found the infantry without much effort. Ok, I guess I'll ask the questions that many have had, but haven't asked. I've had Discord on my computer for about a year, and use it to talk with friends in other games. That said, I have no clue about how to connect to the Korea 1952 server Discord. I also downloaded SimpleRadio Standalone, but again have no idea how to set it up to use it in DCS with the server. Would it be possible for one of you more experienced players to post a brief tutorial in this thread on how to setup the two addons so we don't have to struggle trying to research how to do the setups? A tutorial would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed the immersion of flying recon in the P-51, but the best recon in the world is useless if you can't report in a timely manner.
  15. Yes, I've had exactly the same issue. I purchased the MiG-15bis module this past weekend and tried to download and install it in 1.5.7. I received a virus message that the Mig15.dll was infected and Avira quarantined it. The module still installed, but when using instant action and training, only the map appears. I put in a support ticket, but they just said to run cleanup and repair 1.5.7.x., and reinstall the module. It didn't work and they are rethinking it. UPDATE: I ran DCS_updater.exe cleanup and DCS_updater.exe repair a second time today. It worked this time so I closed my support ticket. If you encounter this issue, perform a cleanup and subsequent repair of DCS World aopenBeta 1.5.7.10xxx.
  16. I think the ground unitswould be easier than most think. Most of the U.S. And U.N pixeltruppen are all ready done for Normandy, with the exception of a few models of tanks. Don't forget that the Korean conflict began just five years after WWII. Even the North Korean tanks and other weapons were T-34s and other WWII Russian weapons.
  17. Not knowing the actual dimensions of the parts, and the stackup tolerances, I'd be very leery of applying a coating of epoxy resin on the surfaces. Depending on the tolerances, you could end up with a very expensive paperweight.
  18. I've had the same issue. It seems to occur mostly after I've crashed and gotten a black screen. If I remember correctly, it's happened only in DCS 1.5.7, and not before.
  19. Congratulations on the birth of your child. It will change your life forever! I must admit that th closest I've been to getting airsickness in DCS was the second time I managed to get the Gazelle in the air and got into a pilot induced oscillation that went 90 degrees from side to side like a church bell.
  20. I switch between using my Rift and TrackIR. I enjoy flying in VR. I wear progressive glasses, and they are a pain to wear with the Rift, so I don't wear them. The instruments are a bit blurry when I'm not wearing them, so the low res doesn't bother me much. I use the Rift when I want immersion, and TrackIR when I want eye candy. I've never experienced motion sickness either in VR or in real life (except when I flew in the back seat of an F-4J Phantom in the U.S.M.C. to check out a hydraulics issue and the pilot wanted to make me sick). Bottom line is that both systems have their places, and are individual choices. No need for snobbery.
  21. Thank you SkateZilla! I tried "F-86F" but it crashed my DCS. I changed it to "f86f" (the edm is f86f) and the startup hanger screen showed the Sabre, but it locked up my startup window at 10%. I don't remember if it was in both 1.5.7 and 2.1.1, but I eventually had to do a cleanup and a repair on 1.5.7 to run even nonvR in that program. DCS 1.5.7 obviously didn't like something. In most cases, 2.1.1 simply refused to start when I tried using "sceneVR" files in which I had changed the aircraft designation. That's why I was wondering if the same "sceneVR" files could be used in both. Should I assume that "F-5E" will show the TigerII in the hanger? I couldn't find an edm file for that airplane.
  22. First of all, a huge thank you to Hawkeye60 and everyone else who put in so much time to create these virtual hangers. I have a few questions though. The files that Hawkeye60 created mostly seem to be for 1.5.x. When I've tried to use some of them in 2.1.1, my DCS crashed. Does anyone know how to rotate the tail down (pitch axis) on the taildraggers (P-51, Bf-109, Fw-190) so the tailwheel is on the floor? And finally, in the lua for the UH-1H, the aircraft code is "ab-212" where I was expecting UH-1H or uh1h or something similar. Is that the vendor's designation (ab-212.edm)? I'm trying to create files for the F-5E and the F-86F. I was able to use "f86f," but my loading screen never got beyond 10% when I tried to start DCS. I never found the .edm name for the F-5E. Any help is appreciated.
  23. I have everything mapped to my warthog also, including the "as escape" in the UI layer. That way, I just push my button and go to my escape screen to tweet control settings and such.
  24. Check your throttle assignment to determine if the throttle axis needs to be reversed. On my TM Warthog throttle, I use the left throttle for the throttle. I reverse the axis and push the throttle all the way forward to ensure it's at full throttle. I also have my right throttle (used for collective) axis reversed so I push it all the way forward for no collective and pull it back to increase the collective (lift the collective arm). My experience has been that startup or inflight, the throttle and collective are set by the program. As soon as I move either throttle (if I haven't pushed the throttles full forward) it immediately goes to the max (collective) or min (throttle) and I kill myself.
