  1. All, please accept my apology for posting my noob question in this thread. It was intended for the Mission subforum. I accidentally selected multiplayer instead of mission. Sorry for any confusion I caused.
  2. Doc, thank you for your prompt reply. A friend and I have been trying to find a way to do co-op flights so he can teach me the basics of combat maneuver without having to contend with the idiots or actual PvP opponents. The OP (#1) of this thread promoted the mission files as single-player or setting up your own multiplayer game. Unfortunately, the download didn't include any instruction on where to put them. Your reply is very helpful, and exactly what I was looking for. Be assured that as soon as I learn the basics, and feel I can contribute to a team environment, I'll be joining the TTI server more often. Again thank you for your help.
  3. Sorry for my following really dumb question, but I've read through all the threads and can't answer it on my own. I read the OP about the mission being single-player or multiplayer and downloaded it from the DCS downloads. I don't know where I'm supposed to put the files. Do I have to put them in the aircraft folders in the "user/saved games/DCS world/" in each of my modules, or in the actual DCS folder Mods? Missions folder? I' really new at this.
  4. Perhaps a more accurate statement would be that stiction is caused by improper stackup tolerances combined with poor manufacturing and improper lubrication. It is overcome by using a longer extension to increase torque.
  5. If you have unchecked the labels in the gameplay tab, you can turn them on by going into the controls tab, selecting the aircraft, and either using the keyboard button shown for "All Labels," or by binding it to a joystick or throttle button.
  6. Checkout the multiplayer servers on 1.5.6 And 2.1.1. Many of them have training, especially if you join a group. I think there might get even be a multiplayer subforum here that has axis or allied groups or squadrons you can join.
  7. DCS Worlds 1.5.6 and 2.1 are separate installations. I run both on an SSD. When you want the Caucasus, you start up 1.5.6. When you want NTTR or Nornandy, you start up 2.1. You can install your aircraft in both. You have to input your module (aircraft) serial number only in the first world into which you download it.
  8. I hope I don't sound condescending, but have you read the manual for the airplane? It's in the DCS World openalpha/mods/aircraft/aircraft name folder/docs. If that doesn't answer your question, try DCS World Topics » Guides & Tutorials » Chuck's Tutorial Library (JSGME+Sound Mods+Transfer Licenses from Steam to Non-Steam). Chuck has excellent tutorials that include radio use. For example, see pages 37 and 38 of his DCS Fw-190D-9 guide.
  9. DCS wouldn't have needed to change the flight models at all on the WWII airplanes. It's simply that a rubber tire has a certain coefficient of friction (COF), concrete has a certain COF, and dirt, grass, and metal all have their own COF. If the COF of the tire is unchanged, the ground handling, takeoff, and landing characteristics are all going to change when you combine the tire COF with the surface COF. It's very simple math. I always struggled with taking off in the Dora in 1.5.6 and 2.0.1 (maybe a 20-40% success rate). In Normandy, that has increased to about 95% success rate (still the same 20-40% in 1.5.6). I haven't tried the Dora in NTTR because I'm not interested in flying the Dora in Nevada. Also, the Spitfire, Mustang, Dora,and -109 were all designed to be used on grass or dirt runways. I've been told that even today, taildraggers handle better when used on grass or dirt.
  10. If you're using rudder pedals and brakes, press RtCtrl +enter to bring up your controls screen. Press on each brake and watch the red bar on the left and right side of the controls screen. If the bar is solid red from the bottom to neutral, and remains that way when you release the brake, or if the bar is solid red and drops to the bottom when you press the brake, you must select the "invert" box in your "Axis fine tune." That is usually the problem. I learned that the hard way on the P-51D.
  11. You might not be able to find much info in a search for "HOTAS" except for Thrustmaster. The term HOTAS is copyrighted by the company that owns Thrustmaster, Gillimont or Gillimete or something.
  12. P-51, Dora, and UH-1H all profiled. Still looking for an F5 profile. That will basically complete it for me, I can see I'll have to build some sort of stand for the stick to get it at the right height. It's a little high on a wood TV tray. It even works well on the UH-1H. Much more controlled.
  13. Thank you Raven! I jumped on it to replace my aging Saitek AV8R-01 joystick and throttle. They estimated delivery for June 5. UPS delivered it yesterday. Downloaded the profiles from Polaris, and I'm flying in Normandy. I just wish we had a profile for the Dora and F5. Thanks again for the great heads up.

  17. My 2.1 download is at 65%. I think I'll do something productive and particularly trying to survive my Fw 190D-9 take offs and landings in 1.5.6.
  18. Thank you very much. That worked! I'm actually a Mac OS user and usually don't understand the Windows commands and methods. I really appreciate the help. Downloading about 14 Gb at 2.2 Mb/sec. Kind of what I expected.

  23. I've been flying the Mustang (along with the Fw190, F5, and the Huey) for a couple of months now, and while I can "generally" get them in the air now, landing is another matter. I've taken to selecting "Invulnerable" in the game options so my logbook doesn't look like a massacre. The best thing to do is to select "Instant Action," select your aircraft, and then select Approach and Landing or Landing depending on the aircraft. It does help with developing the landing muscle memory without having to fly through those stupid gates in the landing training mission. After you learn to land in the straight line approach, you can try to do the training landing mission.
  24. Press your \ key. You'll receive a menu that lists function key selections. Select F8 Ground Crew. Then Select F3 Request Repair. You'll get a text message telling you how long the repair will take (For example, a prop change caused by hitting the brakes and nosing over will take about 150 seconds). And yes, that time is from experience:music_whistling:
  25. I must agree that it makes absolutely no difference how the map is used. Since DCS is a "sandbox" setup, everyone can use the map as he or she sees fit. No one will have to worry about their Fw190D-9 or P-51D being jumped by an F-15 or Mig-29 unless the mission author sets it up to be possible. Normandy is a map of a geographic area, nothing more. If designers want to create modern NavAids so folks can place them on the map for a mission, more power to them. You can use them or not as you desire. Actually, what I think everyone is overlooking, is tha eventually 1.5.6 and 2.0 will be merged into 2.x. I don't know if the NavAids are determined by the version or not, but is it possible that they will be available to add by the mission editor after the merge? Also. When you have the Caucasus, Nevada, and Normandy all in the same version, will you just select your terrain when you sign on?
