  1. During the one to two weeks between when the 2.5 open beta drops and the 2.5 release installer drops, I'm sure users will be able to say exactly how many Gb 2.5 release will need. As I said before, if you have both 1.5 open beta and 2.2 open alpha, right click on 1.5 open beta. Left click on "properties" and write down the size of 1.5 open beta. Then, right click on 2.2 open alpha, left click on "properties," and write down the size of that file. Add the two sizes, and you can assume that the 2.5 open beta will not exceed that sum. If you just have 1.5 stable, or just 1.5 open beta, or just 2.2 open alpha, don't bother asking if you have enough space because no no one on this forum knows how much will be downloaded! You will get as much of an answer as "When will we be landing a crew on Neptune?" No one knows, so no one can answer. Please stop asking. When I was teaching a class, I used to say "There's no such thing as a stupid question. This forum thread has proven that I was wrong!
  2. WHAT? She isn't willing to share the gum? Dump her.
  3. I have a 400 something Gb (1/2 of a 1T SSD) with 1.5 Open Beta with FC3, A-10C, P-51, Spitfire, Fw-190, MiG-15, F-86, Mirage, Viggen, Huey, and Gazelle; 2.2 Open Alpha with NTTR and Normandy, X-Plane 11, IL-2 BOM, BOS, and Cliffs of Dover Blitz, and a bunch of Steam games, and had 40 Gb free. Yeah, it sounds big enough:megalol: I have moved the XP 11 and the Steam games over to an HDD to free up about 204 Gb in preparation for 2.5 OB.
  4. I have to stop following this thread, my brain hurts. 1) If you have 1.5 open beta installed, the 2.5 open beta will download ALL files and will give you the option of uninstalling 1.5 open beta. 2) if you have 1.5 open beta and 2.2 open alpha, the 2.5 will take the files it needs from 2.2 open alpha and download the rest (faster download), and give you the option to uninstall 1.5 open beta. I believe it will automatically uninstall 2.2 open alpha. 3) if you have 1.5 stable or just 2.2 open alpha, then you have to wait for the 2.6 release installer to become available one to two weeks AFTER 2.5 open beta is available (02/07/2018 to 02/14/2018). 4) No one can tell you what the size of your particular download will be. If you have both 1.5 open beta and 2.2 open alpha installed, add the sizes of the two installs, and the sum should be the worst case size of 2.5 open beta install on your hard drive (for reference, the combined size of my 1.5 ob and 2.2 oa, with mods and saved stuff, are 131.2 Gb). I have made sure that I have much more room than that left on my SSD. ONLY YOU CAN DETERMINE HOW LARGE A WORST CASE FILE SIZE YOU MIGHT HAVE. This really isn't rocket science folks. Figure it out. Do the math!
  5. The title of the thread is a bit off. The only NATO Northern Flank is Norway. Russia boarders northern Norway north of Sweden. Finland and Sweden are NOT "semi- neutral!" They ARE neutral, and they are not part of NATO! If we consider the possibility of Russia invading Norway by violating Swedish and Finnish neutrality to pass through to Norway, then we must also consider the reverse of NATO doing the same to Russia. I mean it's not as though it's happened before ... WRONG. Britain and the U.S. Invaded Russia in 1918 at Arkhangelsk to help the White Russian army fight the Bolsheviks. Of course, they didn't go through Sweden or Finland to do it.
  6. That's the jist of the conversation that I've picked up. You have a few people who are vulching because they're not good enough to beat anyone in a dogfight! What better way to score kills than to get them while they're relatively defenseless! The Germans usually weren't able to surprise the British and hit the Spits and Hurricanes on the ground and while taking off because of the Chain Home Defense. Why now have an announcement to notify an airfield when there are enemy inbound to give them time to get into the air and defend the base? If they can't deny the airspace over the base to the enemy, then it just sucks to be a new bird just taking off. That's more real-life than much of what I've read here.
  7. Wow! I just finished watching Wags' new Huey "fast and low" over Georgia in 2.5 and was wondering if a land this old, would have so many forested areas. Your video shows that it definitely does. I'd love to see the "tower" towns in DCS though. All the towns, villages, and cities seem too modern in DCS.
  8. It might not have any relation, but don't forget that the Center of Gravity (CG), is further forward on the Dora than the Spit. That could affect the movement of the tailwheel due to more weight on the tailwheel.
  9. Not sure how large the module files are, but don't forget that they're duplicated in both 1.5.8 and 2.2. When we go to 2.5, we'll have only one installations of the modules so the files should be smaller than 1.5.8 and 2.2 combined.
  10. I use both the Warthog H.O.T.A.S. And Oculus Rift C2. I would suggest that you bind your switches and buttons to your WH if you're having trouble reaching them with the mouse. For example, there is a switch on the throttle base that I use to throw an arming switch. I found an excellent resource in the WH profiles by Polaris (I believe they're in the "INPUT" subforum). You can do a search and find them. The difference between those profiles and the excellent ones by Homefries is that Homefries uses the Target software and Polaris doesn't. If Polaris doesn't have a profile for your aircraft, you can use one of the others as a guide to setup yours. Regarding VR, I open the controls tab on the main screen and select "UI" as the aircraft. Then I bind "Escape" (pause), "VR Zoom," and "Center VR" to buttons on my stick and throttle base. The bindings in UI are global and go across all your aircraft so you must decide how you want to bind them. For example, I bind the "Pause" to the button next to the autopilot switch, but that's the same button I use for the drag chute in my F-5, so I use the joystick lever as a modifier (Lever + button) for one of the actions. I also set my full screen (right alt. + Enter) and "show FPS (Rt alt + Rt Control + F16 (pause) after the sim is running, but before I put on my headset. I hope this helps. I know how confusing it can all be when you're new to it.

    Unstable

I must admit that since the updates, I find hovering and taxi in the Huey to be much more controlled and easier. I can even land now (most of the time) without breaking something or killing myself. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I've been trying to hover and land the Huey for more than 6 months without as much success as in the past few weeks since the updates.
  12. I tried using the English cockpit. It worked well. It was however, the mod, and not a Heatblur update. Unfortunately, it also fails the integrity check in multiplayer. I had to delete it to use any module in multiplayer, not just the AJS-37. Additionally, the flight models for the Huey and the Gazelle have been updated. They are both "less twitchy."
  13. Is it possible you were too close and the AIM-9 didn't have time to arm?
  14. If you don't already know, just be aware that you must be in multiplayer and both people must own the aircraft to use it in the multi-roll.
  15. As who has no clue how to do this command, how do I do the command "ipconfig/flushdns" in Win 7. Is this a DCS function or a Windows system command.
  16. Sure thing. This procedure is for Windows 7. 1) Copy your DCS saved games directory, and rename it in case something goes wrong. 2) Go to the main game directory for the DCS version you're using; 1.5.8 or 2.2. 3) In that directory, right click on "bin." 4) In the window that appears, select "Open in Command ...." 5) in the command window that opens, type run_DCS.exe cleanup and hit the return 6) After the cleanup finishes, type run_DCS.exe repair and hit the return That should cleanup and repair any corrupted files you might have. Bignewy has the procedures in his signature. Check it out.
  17. I've found the best way is to use the NWS during taxi only. When you enter the runway, you can center the nose wheel by either taxiing fwd SLOWLY with the NWS, or by using your toe brakes. Hold full toe brakes and advance your throttles to about 90%, release the brakes, and when you are rolling, go burner. DON'T TOUCH YOUR NWS BUTTON! Tap your toe brakes to stay centered until you get rudder authority. This is how I've always taken off, and I've never had a problem. Good job bbrz! I never even noticed the nose wheel shimmy damper not working.
  18. Have you tried a cleanup and repair? I have my idle cutoff mapped to my warthog throttles so I can't help with the key commands. All of my knee boards work correctly in the latest update and hot fix to 1.5.8. Have you tried to do a hot refuel and rearm? Open your canopy and give the command to the ground crew. I think I've done that in the past. We used to do hot turnarounds in our F-4Bs in the USMC when I was Fleet Marine Force Western Pacific (FMF WestPac).
  19. OK, it looks like ED started the maintenance about an hour early. They said 0600 UTC and we are at +5 UTC. That should have been 0100 my time, but it started at 0000 my time. Tried to upload again on 12/19/17 at 1953, and received the same error message.
  20. I just flew Mission 1 of the campaign and had an engine failure just after check point 4. I have flown this mission many times before and this is the first time I've experienced a random engine failure. Just after I passed CP 4, my EGT began to fall and my RPM fell off. My N1 (gas generator speed) also dropped as though I ran out of fuel or had a flame out. I attempted to autorotate, but failed (I have trouble landing with the engine is running, let alone when it isn't). EGT never exceeded 500 deg C and the GG speed was always in limits. I also had plenty of fuel. I just tried to upload the *.trk, but couldn't because of a missing security token. I received the following error message: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error." I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to over come the upload error.
  21. I actually have a TM Warthog H.O.T.A.S and Saitek (Logitech) Pro rudder pedals. The spring tension on my pedals is set to the lowest value. I actually tend to keep my feet off the pedals most of the time because the slightest amount of pressure from one foot or the other will deflect my rudder (or differential braking on my Spitfire). Again, the best way to learn this is to Practice, Practice, Practice!:joystick:
  22. I hear you, and agree that you should use what feels best to you. I'm not judging at all. My choice to not use any curves or nondefault saturation is just that, my choice. My main suggestion is for the OP to do the training missions until he (or she) feels comfortable with the aircraft. Don't complain that something is off unless you've actually flown the real aircraft, or unless someone who has actually flown the aircraft flies it in DCS and says "This isn't right. The real airplane ...." Practice the training missions and instant action until you can do it. For example, While I can fly and land all of my tricycle gear airplanes pretty consistently, I suck at landing my tail draggers and rotorcraft consistently without killing myself. However, I don't blame the flight model for having too much bounce in the tail draggers, or collective too sensitive in the rotorcraft. It probably took about 100 smoking craters before I could consistently get the Fw-190D-9 in the air, and I still have trouble at times. I've read posting and watched YouTube videos by pilots who have actually flown them and have said they're the most accurate out there. Another suggestion is to spend the $10 U.S. and buy the F-5 Aggressor Basic Combat Maneuver Campaign. I can guaranty you'll get better. Practice, practice, practice! You'll get better.
  23. I have been flying the F-5 for some time now, and have never had any real issue with the airplane during takeoff. Taxi can be a little frustrating until you learn when to press the NWS button, and how much input you need to apply to the rudder pedals to make your turn and then straighten out again. For takeoff, I taxi forward at VERY LOW SPEED to ensure the nose wheel is straight. I don't even use the NWS to line up the wheel. I advance the throttles while TAPPING the brakes to keep straight until rudder authority, and go into burner. I never use NWS during the takeoff roll. During landing, I pop the drag chute and roll out. Once I lose rudder authority, I TAP the brakes until I feel I can SAFELY use the NWS TO EXIT THE RUNWAY. My experiences might be very different from most others, mainly because I actually do the TRAINING MISSIONS in order before I try to actually fly the aircraft I'm learning! My suggestion is that you practice the TAXI, TAKEOFF, AND LANDING missions until you feel relatively proficient without phases. THEN try to fly the aircraft. I have never used ANY curves on ANY of my aircraft, including the Huey or Gazelle.
  24. I could be mistaken, but I believe that Steam controls when their version is updated; whether with a new update or a hot fix. I don't believe DCS has anything to do with it. Try contacting Steam and ask why they haven't applied the hot fix.
