  3. Might be a little heavier than that base weight. Ensure that you include Phoenix rails, Tank struts and other launcher weights.
  4. The F14 Max Trap Weight kept increasing as the aircraft morphed into medium attack. I don't know where it ended up, but increased from 51,800 to 54,000 when I left. It is quite simple. You take the difference between max trap and existing weight, and that is your max fuel to bring back aboard. Ordnance expenditure is simple to calculate as well, missiles are 1000, 500 and 200 pounds respectively, with around 500 pounds for gun ammo and 250 each for external tanks. Calculate max fuel for trap with all existing ordnance before takeoff, and add fuel using the above weights for any expended ordnance. Easy peasy. Dump rate was around 1500 ppm, and you wanted the the dump shut off early so as to not stream residual fuel over the ship as you entered the break.
  5. Everyone put the wings in manual and or swept the wings aft when refueling to avoid wing movement and corresponding pitch changes.
  6. That will allow the customer to experience the realistic ability of the Tomcat to simultaneously take out two fighters, two bombers, a satellite and a submerged submarine, all without an AWG9 lock.

  9. Spoilers are armed again on the takeoff checklist just prior to taking the runway because the outboard spoiler module would overheat during extended operation. Spoiler brakes remain off during shipboard operation. Usually no flap or maneuvering flap extended takeoffs from land, always full flaps from the boat.

  13. No, the spoiler displacement equals the thumb wheel displacement. If you release the thumb wheel, the wheel and spoilers will return to the neutral position. DLC increases approach speed by approx 6 knots.

  15. The basket moves up and right due to the Tomcat's large nose and "bow wave", so sometimes a RIO would say "right one, up a half..." Depended upon your contract as to how you wanted to reference location.

  21. It's a display technique that dovetails with the previous systems where the longer the "spike", the stronger the signal, meaning the higher the threat. It makes all the sense in the world.
  22. F14 (and A6) use "motive flow" to move fuel from tanks to engines, dump, etc. Drop tanks are pressurized as well. It is a siphoning type of technique. Trapped fuel is sumps, flop tube type fuel pickups, and capacitance fuel sender limitations.
