  1. Old George would have been honored to have his misspelled name on a Tomcat. Trust me. ;)
  2. 10 units AOA in all configurations... Airspeed will vary with weight, but was 225 to 240 or so. 230 KIAS was used for a good balance IIRC, but 10 units AOA is where you should be.
  3. If you are referencing ICLS, then selected Landing on the left side of the PDCP, AWL on the bottom row, and flip both switches on the right side of the panel to ICLS. The needles will display when you are behind the ship and a signal is detected. Already set up in the Caucuses Case I Instant Action mission.
  4. The higher you go, the closer the horizon line gets to the real horizon. Pitch is referenced to the aircraft symbol correctly, it just doesn't correlate to the real horizon accurately. Go figure. Heatblur got it right.
  5. It's OK, we're all here to learn. Help each other out...
  6. They are designed that way to facilitate signaling on the ship at night. On the cat, lights on means ready to launch, like a salute in the daytime. When taxiing on deck, lights on means "I HAVE A FREAKING BRAKE FAILURE!!!", signaling the deck crew to throw chocks and Junior Ship's Company Officers under the wheels in an attempt to stop the aircraft...
  7. It was that way in the aircraft. The HUD is designed for weapons delivery, and is not a primary flight display. Everyone, and I mean everyone I know turned it either way down for landing at the ship, or completely off. Learn to fly using the VDI for attitude and heading information.
  8. How does the critter feel to you guys in flight?
  9. OK to have a full beard if you are Special Ops, but your O2 mask won't seal in a fighter, you'll pass out, and Jester will end up having to punch you out. You'll try to get your story straight on Guard as you descend in your parachute, only to find out that the entire world was listening after you get picked up by the helo. Just like the Godfather, "Shave the beard, keep the moustache..." ;)
  10. Much of that is the limited dynamic range of a desktop sim. Your real eyes can see a much wider range of illumination than can be displayed in a photo or on a screen. Therefore, turn up the instrument and console lights using the controls on the right console. I do this in every DCS module, or on any flight sim for that matter.
  11. Bit of a game changer, isn't it?
  12. In what scenario, Immel? What's the aircraft state?
  13. No Immel, you wouldn't have enjoyed it four weeks ago... Get rid of the beards. That's lame, Millennial, fly by wire, HUD cripple, tanker posit I'm always out of full, F18 nonsense. You must have a full, 1980's soup saving moustache. What are your impressions on the flight model and handling, now that you are flying a real, manly fighter?
  14. I can't, it was a one wire in a T2C on Lexington. Got better after that... ;)
  15. To truly get the full experience and enjoyment, everyone will need to grow a 1980's style moustache... If you are 15, be patient and get after it, we'll wait. ;)
  16. Good opportunity to take another peek- ttps://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=232264 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=232275 Detailed Case I in work as we speak. Not sure where it will be released...
  17. DLC is engaged and checked on downwind. You are referencing actual use of DLC, which generally was only required to stop from going flat in close, after adding power to counter the downdraft behind the boat. Usually, the technique was one or two quick "clicks" in the nose down direction. Bang Bang to stop from going flat as you cleared the ramp.
  18. Spoiler Brakes off for carrier ops. Bad form to have the spoilers pop up after a trap. ANTISKID is off while on the boat as it can command a release below ten knots while taxiing. Shore based takeoffs usually no flap or maneuvering flaps unless fuel is an issue, then full flap mil power. Always full flaps for shipboard ops. Full Flaps do not auto retract, maneuvering flaps do based on AOA. Rotate at 140-150 no flap on land based takeoffs.
  19. What do you fly?
  20. Good grief, the F14 radar worked just fine for co speed targets. Quit believing rumors and Facebook loudmouths who have never touched a radar. A dedicated RIO and an AWG9 is tough to escape. I have no idea what DCS will emulate.
  21. Those are all massively variable depending on configuration and profile. The numbers you see on Wikipedia and in Janes and elsewhere are generally useless.
  22. That was an abbreviated start at best, but few will want to do all of the required checks.
  23. I'll have a write up on the break and landing in due course. Still too early for a number of reasons.
  24. There is automatic trim associate with things like wing sweep, flap extension, Mach number and DLC, but the aircraft doesn’t have full time trim like the wimpy FBW kiddie jets out there...
  25. Too difficult to describe. You'll know in six days. Aircraft is still flyable- It is modeled beautifully.
