  1. Many thanks. I have to admit to not looking through the manual yet, although half the time the problem with a manual is you need to know what your looking for to find out how to do it.
  2. Yes that's it, but it only seemingly happens when you have/had a signature.
  3. I am sure I am missing a key option here. I am currently practising with the A10 with several different bomb load outs, but everytime (seemingly) I drop a bomb I drop two. I don't tend to notice it when I am flying but when I swing round for another pass I find I am missing bombs all together. Whenever I fire missles I fire one so I assume it's not a double press issue, or a misconfigoration on my x52 so I am assuming there is a release count option somewhere? Any ideas?
  4. Oooh that looks nice...what kind of settings can you run BS on? Evertime I read something new about graphics cards I keep getting tempted by the 4870x2...
  5. The A10 definatly says it, I was flying it over the weekend (in sim obviosly).
  6. Doesn't it say anything on the HUD?
  7. If you work through the options whatever the latest release (remember there are beta's below in red that may have a later date than the WHQL drivers. The drivers tend to work with multiple graphics cards but if yours isn't in the list of compatible cards then it won't work, not sure if it will actually let it install as I have never tried it. However the nvidia drivers page is quite good and if there is a driver that will work for your card it will be in there.
  8. Under the word DTWD there is a huge gap, on longer posts this isn't there, on short ones it is. You guys have it as well ^
  9. I would install LoCFG backup your config settings and then re-set your settings. If that doesn't fix it if you installed any mods with ModMan remove them one at a time. Failing that I think you can find the effect in the bezer or something like that directory. I can't look at it at the moment though so maybe someone else can help you.
  10. I don't think you can, FC yes, but not LOMAC. Sorry.
  11. The 180 went WHQL the other day, it's 180.48, get over the NVidia website and work through the driver page. Nope the anisatropic filtering is still there. Your setting up your settings in the "manage 3D settings" page aren't you? BTW a word of note, this driver release changed my upscaling mode, so watch that and switch it back if needed.
  12. So they aren't as good as the IR varient then? I can understand them being put in the game, I just can't understand why they were developed/still in use (are they?) unless they cost a huge amount less than the IR missles.
  13. I decided to switch it to dawn to get used to the weapons, which made it a darn sign easier. Just a few questions, what sort of practical use to do TV missles have? You seem to be right on top of your target before they "lock". And that's another thing, what are they actually "locking" onto? I mean IR you can understand, but what is the TV bit doing?
  14. Don't forget it's not technically out in the west yet. Not for several months, and you only really see previews and the like...well about now actually.
  15. Nice one, looks interesting. Just making the DCS more streamlined and taking advantage of the more powerful solutions that are about now would be the biggest and first step, but if they ARE developing it from the ground up then something like this may be of use to them. I will take a read of that thanks, it certanly looks impressive though.
  16. The problem is if MS had done the sea change and had forced any new development for it's OS to HAVE to be in 64 bit everyone would be doing it. In my line of work I am quite frequently comming up against the 32bit memory issue, and that is in a 64bit OS, but because it's a 32bit app it's not happy. Yes having a 64bit OS is enabling the rest of the memory to work out a bit better, but until someone says "Right it's 64 bit from now on!" it's not going to happen to quickly because people ARE STILL buying 32bit os's. I use several apps that use 100% of the cpu, every single mhz of every single core and when you see all those cores fire up 100% you realise how much power there is lying dorment waiting for some devs to access it. Actually using multicores for the devs takes a lot of thinking about and forward planning. There are some languages out there that are written to expressly use multicore processes, but the core languages aren't yet written to take a lot of the headache out. At the moment the most efficient way of a dev using multicores is to put different things on a core like the Xbox 360 does, but if your programming for the 360 you know exactly what hardware your putting it on, a PC isn't like that. It's just a bigger headache trying to do. Still people do do it.
  17. TrackIR 4 pro is brilliant, I wouldn't be without it, even in LOMAC/FC with 3DOF I wouldn't be without it. 6DOF is just...well it's amazing, it is game changing. Having problems with a piece of the cockpit blocking your view? Lean around it! Can't see a monitor properly? Move close to it it, it really is amazing. You may have issues with the distance your sitting, but TrackIR is just on the end of a USB cable, so you can extend it with no issues. Remember if your using the IR expansion the dots of lights will get bigger to the camera the further you are away, so you will loose some accuracy/precision. If you HAVE to sit that far away, I would suggest putting the sensor either closer to you or behind you and invert it in the settings. The null zone and acceleration your asking about is definatly and very easily achieved in the settings. There is a chap on here called Gary who recently purchased it for BS (I don't own BS yet, waiting for the western release) and I know he spent quite a bit of time setting his up until he figured it all out. He may be a good person to speak to when you come to purchasing it (I assume from the way you have written your question you haven't got one yet).
  18. Are you setting this in game? Remember your graphics card uses profiles that can basically override or ignore anything a game is telling it to do and do what NV/ATI told it to do in this situation. I would suggest you setup your own profile for the game and force it override the game settings. If you are overriding the game settings and it's doing it I have no idea.
  19. Don't go getting rid of them anytime soon, I haven't progressed onto the SU25 yet, but when I do I will be grabbing them. One quick question, are those individual missions part of the campaigns or are they seperate? Many thanks.
  20. Many thanks. Another day of flying today I think.
  21. That's probably because your pushing against the CPU limitation opposed to the GPU limititation. The new DCS engine will hopefully be fully SLI/Crossfire compatible.
  22. Cheers chaps. I was in the A10 I have been in Russian birds for ages and it was an unpleasent shock to go back to the A10, it felt so cluttered and over the top. In the russian birds you had the information you needed in a fairly easy to understand layout. The A10 just seems to dump information on your and you feel a bit overwelmed. I had equiped IR Mavericks but couldn't pick up any heat on the ground (I had made the vehicals stationary to make it easier as this was my first go in the A10 actually doing AG) and nothing was showing up. Where are the smoke markers/what are they called? I remember seeing a flare pod, was this it? Actually I have another quick question, in the mission editor I set my attack waypoint over the targets and to help in setting up for the next pass I would set the altitude hold as I swung round for another attack but it it constantly wanted to seem to climb to 5000 metres opposed to holding at the altitude I was at. Any ideas?
  23. Ok let’s look at input/output and video as two separate entities. As empeck says video has motion blur, this is effectively interpolating frames that aren't there in your mind. If you have two points A and B and they are half a mile apart. Now you travel between these two points at a constant fast speed and it only takes you two seconds to cover the distance. For this example we will say we are recording this in PAL which is 24 frames per second, so over two seconds there are 48 frames. As your going a constant speed the video will have 48 individual frames of you evenly spaced out across the half mile. If these images are recorded on a video camera (CG in films/tv has this done at post/export stage) all these frames (pictures) of you will be blurred and you won't be able to discern any sort of definition of you. Because your brain can register but not discern what’s going on when the video is played back it looks smooth because you have motion blur. Now if you rendered out the same thing in CG without motion blur you would have 48 perfect images in those two seconds. You could pause it anywhere and it would be just like looking at a photo. In order to effectively fake this blurring you have more and more frames going on in a second. For instance you might want to play an FPS at 120 frames per second to make it look smooth, that is 5 times what PAL 24 is running at but it has no blurring so it needs it to make it appear smooth. Certain games are now introducing motion blur into them which means that they can run at a lower frame rate and not look as slow, this however does not help with accuracy. When you are watching a video you’re not interacting with it, it isn’t required to be running so fast that you can move something on screen and know when to stop moving it for it to be in the position you intended. If you move and it’s a slow frame rate, say around 10 frames per second your only being updated on the position your are in the move ten times per second. This is obviously far too low for say an fps as your trying to put the target over someone’s head who is running at you, but may be adequate for slightly changing your course at 10,000 feet in an empty sky. The higher the frame rate the more precision you have. This is the same for input devices, freetrack can only update the position your head is with the in game counterpart 30 times per second. This not only is a detriment to your accuracy but can also create lag and could induce motion sickness. Track IR runs at 120 frames per second, which is four times faster and is fast enough for your brain to perceive it as smooth just like it does when you’re watching graphics in an FPS game running at 120fps. God I hope that makes sense, it’s late evening here and my brain is toast...oooh toast...I am hungry now :D
  24. Hello all, Ok so air to air combat is quite easy at night, you just lock onto the targets and fire away, there is also a lot less clutter up there so it's fairly easy to see the bad guy. Now my problem is I am trying to do Air to Ground in the dark and it's a little trickier for a starter you can't see what your supposed to be shooting. So I was wondering if anyone had any tips? Apart from tagging every target as such in the editor. Also does a stationary vehical give off heat in the sim? I know in reality it depends on the vehical generating heat, but do all vehicals do that in the game no matter if they are moving. I don't think they do, but I was wondering if I was just missing something. Is there anyway to fire off parachute flares or smoke generators? Flares to illuminate the area and smoke generators to pinpoint a column or target, so I can do a recky run tagging everything and then swing round for the attack pass.
  25. It's effectivly software theft in a round about way. NP developed the output/input software to plug into there devices and no matter how simplistic you feel it is they did that work. If it's a doddle to do then it won't take the people at freetrack 5 minutes to replicate, unless of course NP have patented the tech...which I think they have. So Freetrack has to develop a different approach. You cannot begrudge NP from protecting there investment. If ED/a third party had developed the software and NP told them/ED to only make it work with NP products then you have an argument, but this is not the case. NP is merely making there software only work with there hardware.
