  1. Do I need to disable something on my card then? I am using an Creative Audidgy in Vista 64 Ultimate and I get (on occasion) sounds phasing in and out and occasionally louder than they should be. The trick of switching to and back from another view sometimes fixes sometimes makes it worse or does nothing at all. Often closing the game down and restarting it is the only way to "cure" the problem. Another odd thing is sometimes the game doesn't seem to realise I have closed the door and I have to re-open it and close it for it to muffle the sound.

  4. Thats pretty much how I do it. However it's a bit annoying to have hall all that information and then have to still manually align everything still. Is there a way to clear specific targets (inlcuding recieved ones) in your abris?

  6. Is there a way to view the targets on the hud and or get the shkval to turn to the targets in the abris? I have to admit I haven't even touched on reading the abris part of the manual, I am just picking things up as I go...to be honest I am scared to go into that part of the manual :D

  9. No I wouldn't have acceded 50 kmh, I am just hovering around the take off point. So if I leave the chopper down on the ground long enough the INU will align and I can take off with a speed reading?
  10. I am not a proffesional pilot, but I don't think I have died in a landing in this sim yet. Simply take your time and come in slow, you may find it easier to go in a wide orbit and slow yourself down. There is no need to rush. Remember height = time to re-act, comming in hot and low gives you very little room for error. Altitude is your friend, use it. I have several techniques, depending on my mood, fatigue, weight (of the aircraft not me! :D), fuel and weather conditions. A rolling landing is easiest if the conditions are a bit rough, your badly damaged or you can't be bothered. Basically land it like a plane, piece of pie really. Auto Hover: Landing with autohover is another easy one. Pick roughly where you want to land and bring the chopper in slowly and steadly at roughly a fixed altitude. When you aproach (and you roughly flat) jab the auto hover and instantly press the trim button, now keep it pressed (or latched) and balance the chopper to a speed of under 10 (...whatever the hell it's measured in) and release the trim button. The chopper should then right itself and settle to a "perfect" hover. If it's having trouble give it a little help, you may want to re-trim as well. If your lined up as you want, reduce your collective steadly until your into a steady but stable descent. If your high and your descent is quite fast you will begin to rock back and forth, just reduce your descent slightly and you will be fine. Once your at about 30 metres find the biting point and steady the chopper into a stable position. If your not quite lined up properly, trim back to position (leaving auto hover on remember) and then reduce collective and steady in at about 10 metres. Now comes the slightly tricky part. Switch off auto hover and quickly get on the trim button if you feel yourself drifting. Get yourself back into a stable hover and reduce collective until you touch the ground. You may find this last ten metres easier with altitude hold off. Fight The Auto Hover: The auto hover wants to keep you still, you can use this to your advantage. Position yourself roughly where you want and put it into autohover. Then you can push the helecopter to a new position and quickly re-trim for that position. Or you can disable a particular autopilot, move and re-engage that autopilot. The autohover will then take the newposition as the centre point. Flight Director Landing: Switch on FD and balance it out into a hover where you want to land and reduce collective until your on the ground. Trim On Landing: Switch off FD if it's on and activate/latch trim and land the same as FD. The advantage of this is if your in a hover you can let go of trim the autopilot will help you balance it out and you can just relax and reduce the collective into a lovely soft landing. Pad Landing: As you can't see over the nose of the BS two things will help you land on a pad, some form of head tracking kit and side slipping. Get yourself lined up with the pad in a hover using any of the above methods but this time be hovering off to the right of the pad, it's quite easy as you can see it through the left window. Now for the last bit just look left and open the door, check your lined up with the middle of the pad and not moving, now simply side slip into the middle of the pad, reduce collective and land. Once down I apply the wheel brake and reduce the throttle down and re-set the trimmers. This stops the chopper from wanting to go anywhere. Once your settled you can bring the throttle back up to automatic. The above is probably all against operating procedure, but it's how I do it and I don't think I have have ever had a major problem.
  11. First off Happy new year to you all, not that it actually means squat. I have had a quick search of the forums but it's a little mad round here of late and I don't really know what the problem is so it's difficult to find another post. If however it has already been answered please just point me to the post. I always do a cold start and at the moment always via the start up "cheat". This is mainly down to not being able to devote enough time to learning it as yet. Anyway I am slowly learning the little "quirks" of the helecopter and how to work around issues (not bugs but actual things the helecopter does that doesn't seem too clever) , but one thing that I cant work out is that after take off I get no speed read out on the hud or on the analogue airspeed dial. After a few minutes it comes online and I can go about my business, however, if I try and do anything with the autohover, because I assume it is missing important speed data, it disables all autopilots and I go into a bit of a spiraling dance. Luckily I figured out the cause of the dance was the autohover being activated before the speed came online, but it's still anoying not to be able to use autohover straight after take off. This is mainly down to the fact I like to take off, hold it in a hover manually then activate the auto hover while I put my head in the cockpit and check the readouts without having to worry about drifting into someone else. So I was wondering is it me not having something ready, a "quirk" or is it for some reason specifically? I could could kind of accept the hud speed not comming up straight away, but the analogue dial reads 0 as well, which seems a bit odd. Unless of course the dial is fed by the same system as the hud is and it isn't a backup dial as I assumed it was. Many thanks.
  12. I would go along with something like what CuteQA suggests. When I am creating a mission I have a rough idea what I want it to be like. Just yesterday however, I was creating a mission and I thought "Hmmm I would really like this vehical to be orbiting the base..." and I found my fictional "insurgents" don't have it in there arsenal. So I thought I would just add a country to the list that did have it, only I couldn't. So what I have no is hours of work effectivly wasted as it's unfinished. Also am I going blind or have you taken the encyclopedia out as well?
  13. Use Fraps. Fly your flight(s). Save the track(s). Play back the track while recording with Fraps but slow down time on the track several times. This enables you to get a smother frame rate when playing back as frames don't drop. Take recorded track and put into video editing software. Speed up track to compensate for amount of slow down added. Add any special/visual effects you want. Add sound effects. Export. The average movie takes several weeks to several months (depends on how much time you devote to it) to make depending on it's content, different shots and amount of shots. If you want several shots/angles you need to capture the same track from a different view. Glowing Amraam created a nice little tutorial type thing over the lock on section of the these forums. It's called Movie Making or something or other. I suggest you take a read and devote some time.

  16. Not bad, still the one at work is the best for composition, I think you should re-capture that. The texture on the "christmasy" one is a bit iffy on the tail in that shot.
  17. You need to set your profile (per item) to overide the software, as default it doesn't.

  22. Nice...and I got my name in lights! :D It was a good ending, I loved that flight home and the looking left and right in the cockpit. You need to get yourself some good video editing software now for any future work.
