Just found the A-10A tutorials from @cfrag and will now start to learn the aircraft which represents best NATO air power in the 1980s in this Cold War theatre of operations. AND I can fly it from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel on a certain MP server then. By the way: Lived there for years ... my second home town.

Visiting Hamburg. I lived there for so many years, I know where I get my ice cream!

Plain vanilla 3090, Ryzen 7, Pimax Crystal, 64 GB RAM, nearly all settings maxed - smooth performance, 45 FPS standard, over population areas like Hamburg and Berlin minimum 36 FPS. Can't complain. RAM does the magic, a friend of mine with a Pimax and a 4090 but only 32 GB RAM has more problems.

Of course You're right. BUT: There is some Baltic water in the northeastern part of the map, a little bit in stage 1 (basically the coast line) and much more in 2 and 3. And to play this part of the map the bases on the "unsinkable carrier" shouldn't be left out. And @Volator also is right: Without at least Wittmund AB, the home base of the famous "Richthofen" wing, the map isn't complete. Don't get me wrong: Thank You, @MAESTR0, this map is a burner and I will buy and play it from day 1 on, reliving my flying in the 1980s but now in the front seat and not in the back (and sometimes on the red side, too). But as a dedicated "Northern light" I have to make this comments. And I know that Ugra do not stop the development after release but working constantly on improvements. I enjoy this attitude on the Normandy 2.0 map, the best map in DCS in my opinion. Horrido!

All the Northern Germany/Schleswig-Holstein air bases are missing (Husum and Leck for the German Air Force, Eggebek and Jagel for the German Navy, Hohn as German Air Force transporter base), that's not good. In 1980's Cold War reality this part of Germany (north of the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal between the Baltic and the North Sea) played an important strategic role as "Unsinkable aircraft carrier" not so easy reached by WarPac ground troops. And the flying assets for the Baltic warfare are stationed in this part. They should be in Phase 3 in any case. Please re-think. Edit: Typo

Das hat ja auch zum Red-Flag-Absturz Bieler/Koch beigetragen. Und Glattwasser ist auch nicht zu verachten, da kann die Höhenmesser-Anzeige schnell einstellig werden. Da hatten wir in Goose Bay auch mal sehr viel Glück gehabt.

Erste Regel im Flieger: Immer schön die Rübe bewegen, nicht die Augen. Der Flügelmann sollte schon so weit weg sein im Tiefstflug (und nur da oder beim cloud chasing ist die Winkelgeschwindigkeit so hoch, dass es tatsächlich was ausmacht), dass keine Kollisionsgefahr besteht (im Regelfall sehe ich den eh nur als kleine Silhouette in einer tactical formation. Die Foto-Formationen sind doch gestellt). Eine Bedrohung kommt eher aus einer Richtung, die von Deinem Blickfeld nicht abgedeckt wird, wenn Du nach vorne schaust. Außerdem sieht der Mensch dann anders. Wir hatten mal einen tollen Vortrag darüber beim FlugPhys-Lehrgang in Königsbrück, wie das Gehirn das Gesehene im Tiefstflug bei hoher Geschwindigkeit verarbeitet, also was Du dann tatsächlich "siehst". Was im übrigen die Vergangenheit ist, denn selbst in der kurzen Zeit, die der Sehimpuls vom Sehnerv ins Sehzentrum des Gehirns und dort zur Verarbeitung benötigt, bist Du schon ein Stück weitergeflogen. Tolles Trainings-Video, aber ich bekomme die Einzelheiten nicht mehr zusammen, ist schon ein paar Jahre her. Wen es interessiert: So sieht Tiefstflug (490 KIAS / 100 ft) aus dem Cockpit eines A-Jets aus (leider schlechte Qualität, habe ich 1992 mit einer unhandlichen Hi8-Kamera in Goose Bay gedreht): https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BMKKHrBip/ Dieses bewusste Wahrnehmen einer am Gesichtsfeldrand vorbeirauschenden Bewegung habe ich nie gehabt, auch nicht auf dem Motorrad bei 270 km/h. Man konzentriert sich halt auf das, was vor einem liegt. Siehe oben. Insofern bin ich mit dem FOV meiner Standard-Crystal zufrieden. Die sitzt eh so dicht auf den Augen, dass ich die Linsen mit den Wimpern verschmiere und die Augen bewusst drehen muss, um die Ränder zu sehen. Aber das ist meine persönliche Meinung. Bin auch mit meinen von der ollen Standard-3090er in max settings gelieferten 45 fps sehr zufrieden. Andere wollen es halt anders. Davon abgesehen: Ich gucke ja "männlich". Das heißt, ich kann Stein und Bein schwören, dass der Joghurt nicht im Kühlschrank steht, bis die Freundin ihn mit einem resignierenden Seufzer herausnimmt ... "Hab' ich nicht gesehen ..."

I have to correct myself. Steam loco end in West Germany was in October 1977 and in East Germany in October 1988. Sorry.

Ich finde die Jagd nach immer noch mehr FOV belustigend. Meine Pimax Crystal Standard hat jetzt schon mehr FOV, als ich mit aufgesetzter WW2-Fliegerbrille hätte ... und mein HGU hat auch nicht sooo viel mehr Gesichtsfeld, von älteren Modellen wie dem Guineau mal ganz zu schweigen. Der EF-Helm (siehe mein Avatar) ist da schon bedeutend besser. Ich dachte, Ihr wollt es so realistisch wie möglich haben? Dann müsst Ihr noch Gewichte an die Pimax bauen. Nichts für ungut.

We do not need aircraft anymore with all that life on the ground! Brilliant work. By the way, the Fehmarnsundbrücke (picture) could only crossed by diesel trains, the bridge isn‘t fitted for electric driven locomotives. Not in the 1980s, not even now … Edit: Info for @OneEyeRoss

The Cold War Germany Map will be immediately after publishing the top map in DCS, I think. A WW2 version later would also be great, but it has not necessarily be on the same size. I would buy with pleasure.

And the possibility to change from the modern helmets with the NVG mount to the older ones would be nice, especially for use in the upcoming Cold War Germany map!

You are right, I am with You completely. The 1950s/1960s were Cold War era, too, and all the nice VW microbuses racing through the streets of Hamburg were built from 1950 onwards. So they still fit if we fly the map with F-86s and F-100s and MiG-17s and MiG-19s and so on.

The last steam locos in West Germany were withdrawn 1972 ... From then only electric and diesel power, so that should be the way on this 1980s map. More important are the correct buildings/stations (infrastructure) and routes (logistic tagets).

Hamburg in the 1980s ... before the big train stations were built ... like Dammtor at the base of the TV tower ... The tour through the city looks really great! But the train stuff could be a little bit improved in future updates. Trains and their lines and stations were and are always infrastructure targets and - also very important - the big stations are recognizable landmarks for setting up initial points for air strikes. Don't get me wrong, the town is impressive. Thank You and Your team for this great work, @MAESTR0!
