  1. Weird because I thought MIL-DTL-28422 (rated for Crash-worthiness) requires the tanks be able to seal.. It was one of the reasons why the A-10 wasn't allowed to take it's fuel tank into combat during Iraq and later Afghan because it was never rated under either 27422 or 5578 and was considered a leak and 'explosion' risk. one of the issues with the older type of sealing on modern tanks is there pressurised which also makes the older sealing methods a load harder as the pressure in the tanks pop's the seals, it's why you have foam fill (detonation presentation) and the hoses themselves self seal, but hey i'll be the first to admit I don't work on the jets, only write code occasionally to simulate parts of them and only relayed what I was told at one stage by ground crew that most of the feeds were still capable of some form of self sealing on most of the modern birds and by "feed tanks" i mean the tank cells that immediately feed into the engines, on the Hornet Tank Cell 2 and 3 (left and right feed) on the F111 was cell 4 and 3, PC-9A it's the Aerobatic fuel tank. Those are the jets/birds I know fairly well. and lets face it as I said most times if your leaking fuel it's the least of your problems (and also why inhibit switches exist).
  2. It depends on the aircraft and the role as to what tanks are self sealing and what tanks are not. Most of the modern fighters have their Feed tanks self sealing but their mains can only seal very small holes, while all (at least western) rotor craft in military service have fully self sealing tanks. And it's not an issue of 'weight' it's an issue of Capacity. When you put the self sealing bladders in the walls are significantly thicker and you loose a lot of capacity to it, designers have to make a choice between the tank being able to take multiple large rounds or being able to carry a lot of fuel, in the case of most fighters if they take hits that are causing major fuel loss from any point other then their wings (and even there) chances are they are going to be having more issues then just 'I'm running out of fuel'. That being said all the External tanks except the A-10's are self sealing. The A-10C's fuel tanks are all self sealing, most of the feed tanks as mentioned on most modern jets are also self sealing and the wing tanks again can take minor 'holes' and seal but not lets put multiple 10mm - 20mm shells through them. On the hornet if you look where most of the tanks are, honestly if you take hits in those area's again as said above fuel loss really is the least of your worries.

While I agree and I also agree that the current open beta shouldn't be moved to stable at all until at least the map crash is fixed btw the ME crash and add on map crashes are related, the only other ME crash they've reported of late is the one if you leave the Loadout panel open for too long with out do anything. though i did just have the other one happen (yay but at least it's producing the error logs etc). but and i'll say but, at the moment they have the issue that some of us can use the current open beta fine and others can not now I'm not going to defend the 2 week cycle, to be honest to me the old one made more sense, do a bunch of open beta builds then get them sorted and push to live at the end of the month or the like. But as a programmer myself I also get that some times you don't always run into an issue before releasing it to the wild. A lot of people for example are like 'OMG you broke it' on A. an open beta line. B. why wasn't it caught etc. Forgetting at the moment stable is fine and that some times you can test something on every system you have ship it to 'live' ie the public and bang you'll have nothing but issues because every machine is different in some shape or form and that's basically what happened this week. I'd be very surprised (shocked actually) if the current Open Beta build gets pushed on Wednesday to 'live' if the map ctd hasn't been sorted but that's just me. And also the whole reason they moved to the 2 week cycle in part is because people were complaining that Open Beta was getting all the updates and 'Live' was taking forever making it pointless and that every one was on Open Beta yada yada .. so by the looks of it they made the choice to speed up the cycle, only this is 2018 on the 'internet' and nothing any one does is ever enough.
  5. yeah appears to be the hard coded max for PG at the moment, and unlike how we can tweak the core files for Caucasus because the terrain.cfg.lua is the crypted file we can't access the season list and up the max temp (The max in the ME is 50 btw) the weird part is they do allow a max of 50 in Summer in the Caucasus so it'd be nice if we could get the same in PG (and Nevada if its not set that high).

Norm/Nineline Something I just noticed looking at all the logs of the failing machines vs the two machines I have here that are working if you go down where it's failing.. every one of them ends about here: If i look at that same exact section on my working machine, the next set after Enter to state 3 is the Terrain Security Control. eg this one none of the logs show this line: INFO SECURITYCONTROL: Loaded mods/terrains/nevada/terrain.cfg.lua.dll.crypt which would suggest maybe something's going wrong with it? (i've not tried loading into PG on the two machines i'm having no issues with in fear that maybe they'll suddenly break) and saddly the friend i was helping earlier has gone to bed (it's 2am here) so i can't see if copying my copy of that file to his machine solves the issue for example.

Not my computer but the friend doesn't have an account on here, same issue loads fine, click on Instant action for Nevada or P.G and instant crash to desktop, at first we thought it was a driver issue but drivers updated to latest nvidia set and still happening, yet my machines loading into Nevada fine.   9. it's a hard one because half of those systems = core to what makes the hornet the hornet, the A2G radar = what makes it an all weather strike aircraft and a lot of it's munitions work hand in hand with it, even the Advanced Tactical Low Light and Infrared. HARM gives it the ability to run self protection on a package, Track While Scan allows it to actually effectively engage multiple targets, the datalink helps etc.. Really though with RWS and the like in I can see why people want TWS as it's is important for proper use of the AIM-120, but the A2G side of the Bug needs some love as well, so far the love has been very much just air to air. But forced to 1 choice, the A2G radar, as it would allow for long range targeting and while not the ideal mean to find and kill SAMS (the Harm is) it does help with it.

Would be nice if the Dev's could comment on if they are going to fix this and give the KC-130J heck even the H the actual fuel load it's meant to have, which is at minimum 27,215kg (60k lbs) with out the extra 11,064kg that it can take in its cargo hold. Even if it was made out to be the KC-130T it would still have 60,000 pounds of fuel + the extra 24pounds that the bladder could carry.. would be nice if we didn't suck it dry so quickly :/

This is already done, click on the carrier group and you get the ability to assign the ATC it's right there under the Visible before start etc Freq 127.5Mhz Modulation AM by default.. unless you mean one for every Carrier in which case seperate each to it's own group? On the tacan values you can also again set one for each carrier in the Advanced panel click the Advanced Waypoint actions Perform Command - Activate TACAN - Set the FREQ, The ID and the Unit it's attached to . ICLS works the same way.

So this is having read the newletter my responses are: Re the Newletter post Thing is though it sounds more like oh hey we ripped out the 3d engine and the sound engine.. that's gonna fix things. But with out ED giving us a lot more info it's still hard to work out if it will fix things and would be nice if Matt or some one would expand on them :/ 1 . Will the dedicated server be able to be ran by game hosting services? (eg will it actually be a more managable size etc) 2. Will the dedicated server require us to still have to buy EVERY terrain module specifically for the server (it's costing people extra 40$us every time they release a terrain) as it's annoying to have to own 2 copies of everything if your running a dedicated server. 3. Does the decrease in overhead also include better network layer managements some of the data sent to clients really seems.. well pointless, a client outside of a battlefield commander shouldn't need to know what is happening 300nm away in high detail.. but they currently get all that information (part of what causes network use to be so high) 4. Are other MP functionality QOL inprovements coming with it? Because right now as other have mentioned in the thread with out mission planning capabilities a lot of the dedicated servers players are left running half backed.. because you have No means of mission planning except from in the aircraft. I see a lot of finger pointing at 'high object' missions in the thread as the 'cause' of the issues, and yet missions that ran fine at one point don't at times or run very poorly in the newer builds etc. Then there are a wealth of scripting bugs like oh events not firing for clients properly etc those aren't 'poor mission making' there actual 'bugs' that have been reported now for over 2 years. Ideally the MP side of the game would get a focus'd sit down and one whole version cycle put aside for it, looking at things like : - Pre existing bugs and issues (ala the scripting items etc). - Server side improvements (ala netcode improvements, memory optimisations etc). - Client/Server improvements (ala mission planning abilities etc). The problem is that you see the back and forth arguments happen if that is brought up 'why is MP getting the attention' or 'Why is SP only getting attention', Both play styles help fund and keep DCS and ED going, SP reaps the benefits of everything no matter what especially given any multiplayer optimisations tend to also improve single player client/server relationships, on the other hand Multiplayer on the other hand some times doesn't, some 'single player' improvements can cause nothing but issues for multiplayer and the lack of clear documentation on scripting changes etc can mean that server runners feel punished for trying! Especially when your server just crashes only for you to find that for example in the last 'patch' cycle a script change some where has caused the mission your running to lock up but only in 'multiplayer' not in single. just my 2 cents on the subject.
  14. Black screen have to force a close, rather then a full crash caused by going into options. Exact Steps: 1. Patch open beta. 2. Click options 3. click controls 4. AV8 - Switch Abstrations. 5. Added AP, Flaps, etc. 6. Hit ok. 7. Black Screen forced to end task. He still has a valid point though what is the point of a Delta or changed file patcher if it then goes and seemingly does the exact same as it used to and downloads 9-14gig of data, the whole point of a delta patcher is normally to reduce the amount of download required, not increase it. Looking at the log for today you see that the Delta part of the patch grabs only what seems to be texture updates for installed content nothing else.. then goes and does the normal patch after which appears to grab.. everything like normal. I think a lot of people are / where hoping that the delta patcher would mean less 9 - 12+ gb updates and more patches like other programs. And yes I am aware compared to the 120+gb that a full install of DCS is 9 - 12gb is a drop in the ocean at about 1/10th of the install, but for some people it can be 1/4th or more of their monthly   16. can hold t he Enter down and at times it still rejects valid freq's you see it Reject.. It Flashes the Entered Frequency then Returns to the previous 305.00 or whatever it was, that is a Reject and it should Not happen eg it is a Bug.
  17. Addition: Some times even going forwards on this is still rejecting valid frequencies seems really hit and miss at the moment, but it's clearly not working as it's meant to.. if you roll it a few times they will suddenly work, it's like the freq isn't realising it's on Manual or something..
  18. If you start cold and dark and scroll 'backwards' to M and try and enter a value into the manual radio the freq will reject, however if you go forwards through the radio's they will enter fine. I've caught this one on video here Which clearly shows the steps taken which was start up , rotate Back invalid entry, rotate forwards and it updates.
  19. Are you running the open beta client? As that is the branch the Early Access items release to. And the first 8gig patch was the standard patch notes are in the patch forum the gulf map is 13gig do that happens after because part of that 8gig patch is to the. Game knows the new map exists plus it looks like a bunch of asset updates
  20. The boxes are the FCS channels, if there is an issue they light up. Fuel can be seen on the IEFI or the FPAS screen on the ddi's On the fcs to xplain why so many boxes there are 4 dcs channels in the hornet, each system has to be monitored that gives you the monitoring, If any fails to monitor or the like the box gets an x in it. I don't know if it's just me but the Ground unit AI seems to be getting worse doesn't matter if its mission scripted, commanded by CA or what.. they seem to ignore that the 'world' around them exists except for other units. Here is just a small list of 'issues' I've noticed with the ground units. At times 1 or 2 units will get 'stuck' and refuse to move, this results in them either being left a mile behind or the entire group refusing to move at all. Buildings etc mean nothing to them, at all be it for pathing, or even for when they decide to shoot, they will just do so even if a building is between them in the target.. Doesn't even seem to have an effect on their LOS Case in point stick a red unit on one side of a building a blue unit on the other and watch them blast away until out of ammo or the building falls down.. water.... Apparently everything and anything can go through it and heaven forbid you script a go to point and there be ocean in the way.. the units will ignore common sense pathing and drive through the ocean.. But even with that aside at the moment taking out bridges etc to try and stop units or bottleneck them is pointless they just drive through the water as if it's land. I get that we can't have the Ground AI constantly doing Ray casting etc it'd bog things down massively but at the moment they basically seem to not give a damned about the terrain at all.. Which is just seems wrong.

  24. yeah as Boris has said i'd say you have DOF on which given unless i've missed it we don't have an easy way of changing our focal point can be a little.. annoying on external it's a great idea but yeah they really need to give us Fstop, Focal length and the like options if they are going to have it in ;) luckly we can turn it off
