Just gave it a try on the free to fly. Seems pretty neat, simple but neat. Trying to decide between this and the P-47. I only play single player on stable and both aircraft are severely lacking in single player missions/campaigns. Any thoughts from people on why I should pick one over the other...or neither? I own the majority of modules including around half of the WW2 warbirds. No massive preference between air to air and air to ground, happy with either, just need decent missions. F-5e looks very dated graphically but I have heard that will be improved.

I could have missed this but when is stable version updating?
-
Hi All, I haven't made any changes to my system or DCS install but overnight I've gone from being able to play normally to totally unable to load a map. Have attempted to use F14 instant action in Persian Gulf (BVR) and gave up after 20 minutes of loading. Also attempted to do an instant action in the F18 in the Caucasus and that got stuck on loading route 1. My system is: i7 9700k RTX 2060 super 32GB RAM Running on SSD (tho not a very fast one) Have also found recently that the Persian Gulf map runs badly in the F14 (stutters down to 14FPS at times) but as I say, now nothing works at all. Any ideas?
-
Has anybody else experienced a performance decrease on the Persian Gulf map in stable release? It used to be absolutely fine but recently I'm getting massive stuttering with framerate jumping from 14 to 120 and worsening the longer I play the map. I get this in particular on the F-14 instant action (Lion and Sun). Other aircraft in the vicinity of Dubai seem fine. Other maps in the F-14 are fine. The MiG 21 is a performance disaster regardless of map when RADAR is running but I think that one is down to the MiG. System specs: i7 9700k RTX 2060 Super 32GB RAM DCS stable installed on a 500gb SSD with over half capacity remaining (tho I'll accept it's not exactly the fastest SSD in the world)

Menu shortcuts after changing drive
Shibbyland replied to Shibbyland's topic in Installation Problems
Awesome thanks. By the way I ended up getting my menu and desktops shortcuts back by downloading DCS world again and installing it to C drive, then once the shortcuts were created, cancelled the install and redirected the shortcuts to D drive. Seems like a bit of a messy solution but I don't know a better way. -
Hi All, I've just moved my installation of DCS from the drive where I have Windows installed (C drive) to it's own drive (D drive) by copying and pasting the files then running an update. The shortcuts were redirected to the new drive so functioned correctly. However, when I uninstalled the copy from C drive, I lost my start menu shortcuts to update and repair. How can I get these shortcuts back. It's probably obvious to other people but I can't find the option to repair DCS in the installation folder so I'd quite like a shortcut. Thanks

Hi, Just having trouble contacting JTAC. I've got easy communications ticked but still need to do manual comms setup in other missions. I'm not sure what the frequency for the JTAC is in mission 16 so when I contact them on radio 1 or 2, I get no reply. What am I missing?
-
I'd quite like updated training missions. Basically, I want all the content from the original A-10c moved over to the updated version (including DLC campaigns) so that I can uninstall the old A-10 and just have the new one.

Hi All, I'm upgrading my CPU sometime in the next couple of weeks but I'm having a hard time deciding between an i7 9700k and an i9 9900k. At the moment I'm running the following: i5 6600 Geforce RTX 2060 super 32GB RAM Flight sims are on SSD with other games on HDD. 750w power supply I suspect the RTX 2060 is beyond my old i5. So here's the thing. When I upgraded by i5 to a newer i5 a few years ago, the advice was "don't get an i7, you just don't need it for gaming, save your money". Well now I'm finding that the i7 is becoming the new go to for what I'm doing and the advice is "don't get an i9, you just dont need it for gaming, save your money". Is the i9 worth the extra money if I'm trying to future proof a little? Bearing in mind, I don't intend to upgrade my cooling or power supply.

Perfect thanks Rudel, just out of curiosity what does it do in settings if I select the remove module option in game? I'm quite keen to uninstall the Normandy map and WWII assets in favor of Syria map. I'd have them all installed but it's taking up too much space on my SSD.

Hi All, I am about to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. I'll be using the same Windows licence on my new motherboard. Do I need to deactivate modules or do anything with my account prior to moving this upgrade? Thanks

Very low FPS in module DCS MiG-21Bis on powerful PC
Shibbyland replied to RussianKnights's topic in MiG-21Bis
It's a shame this is still the solution because with other new products having been released (unrelated to DCS), I've had to update my drivers. I suppose I could roll them back when I want to fly the MiG 21 but thats a bit rubbish. With regard to the OP. Agree with what everybody else has said, MiG 21 has known performance issues. Massive framerate drops when using RADAR. I'll add that I've heard some people experience a similar thing with the MiG 19 RADAR although it's not something I've noticed myself. I believe it's for this reason that the devs for the MiG 19 included a simplified RADAR presentation. Unfortunately, the MiG 21 doesn't have such an option. -
Speaking of MiG 21, has there been any progress with the massive performance drop when using RADAR? It's fine when using old Nvidia drivers but there comes a time when you really do need to update the drivers for other things.
-
I want to update my graphics drivers but every time I do it wrecks my framerate for the MiG 21 with RADAR on. If I revert back to Nvidia 442.19, then the performance improves. This was mentioned months ago.

Because I'm not a DCS steam user I can't leave a review, but I'd like to help bring that "mixed" review status up. I wasn't sure about buying supercarrier because I'm not that interested in the nitty gritty of procedures. However, I'm glad I did. Absolutely hooked (no pun intended), trying to get that perfect grade. Just drilling over and over until the approaches are better, trying to get it all on the numbers...and that's before you add a mission. I've just spent ages doing case 1 after case 1. With the old carrier, I used to find the F-14 was easier to land than the F-18 because of the DLC. Turns out that's because I was doing it wrong, now I'm battling with the F-14. Looking forward to introducing some bad weather and gusts. Cheers ED, great module.

Hi All, Can't get F14 comms working with the supercarrier. No response from ATC no matter what get jester to tune. Can't get comms working for launch or for landing. Please tell me what I'm missing.

Hi All, Just installing the latest update to stable and it's adding 60GB to the game. Will it cleanup old files or is the game actually that much bigger? If so, how can I cut back on file size? It's getting to the point I can't fit it on my SSD which is weird because it only has my OS and DCS on it (plus a few ancillary files). Cheers

The aircraft was known to have a reasonably slow roll rate as compared to the Sabre. It's particularly bad at the higher speeds. MiG 15 does well in climb against the Sabre although it's worth noting it wasn't supposed to be that much better than the F model Sabre but in game it does still seem to outclimb it. The MiGs party trick is acceleration, so boom and zoom tactics are your best bet. You're going to struggle to out turn an AI F86 (or at least I do). I recently bought both the F86 and the MiG 15. I like the MiG more but from a game point of view, it doesn't really have enough content I certainly only got it because it was on sale.

Hi All, I'm getting into mission building with the view to designing a MiG 15 campaign in the longer term. I'm looking for feedback on a mission I've built. It's fairly simple at this stage but does have some aspects which make it a challenge. In future, I hope to add voiceovers and more detail to bring it to life. Please give it at try and give it a rating or leave a comment with what you'd like to see in any future mission. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3309614/ Cheers

Hi All, I'm in the very early stages of building a campaign for the MiG 15. I'm new to mission building and so am taking all the guidance I can get to make them more detailed and immersive. I'll only be building the odd basic mission initially to put out into the community for download and get feedback on. Before I get too far into it, I thought I'd get people's opinions on a few ideas in terms of asset use. The basic premise of the campaign is one set in the Caucasus in the 1950s. It will involve a conflict between the USSR and some kind of separatist force (I won't go too into detail just yet but I've got many ideas for what I think will be a decent story). Please note: I will not be using mods for these missions, please give all opinions in that context. (The B-29 is out). Here's what I need opinions on. The 1950s is quite niche and unrepresented by in game assets. There are obviously WW2 assets which will transfer over nicely in some places however, these are UK, US and German so mostly don't fit in the Soviet union. My preference is to use German and British Units to represent the separatist force particularly when it comes to anti aircraft weapons (I will not be using RADAR or SA missiles). These will not be considered German or British but most likely represent Georgia. What do you think is better. Using 1940s equipment of a non-soviet nation to get the weapons (and thus their performance) more period correct, or use the 1960s and 70s Soviet equipment available in game and just pretend they were available in the 1950s. Keep in mind, the MiG 15 will be outclassed by 1960s+ surface to air weapons in most cases. The MiG 15 is a fantastic module which doesn't get enough love. I want to change that. If I have success in the community, my ultimate goal is to get Russian speakers involved and hopefully get some voice messages in game with English captions.

Thanks for that, I've set the enemy aircraft to uncontrolled so that they remain on the ground and can be bombed. I've got it sorted where if you do as the mission brief says and hold over the airfield until your flight has formed up then they will follow you to the target. So now I have two more issues: How do I get them to bomb enemy aircraft while they are parked on the ground? Why do MiG 15 AI do ridiculous lobbing attacks with bombs? They climb and launch bombs on tanks from high altitude (and miss). I'd like mission completion and allocation of 100 points to occur when the player destroys one parked enemy aircraft. How can I make that happen? I'll do a little more work on the mission then upload it for people to try over the next couple of days. When I've got this mission editing basics sorted my goal is to work up to more complex missions and build a 1950s era campaign for the MiG 15 using the Caucasus map.

Hi All, I'm trying to make an airfield attack mission. The objective is to attack a group of parked aircraft. I'm having the following issues: 1. Attacks on static objects don't count for anything. I want to use static objects so that they aren't all sitting there with their engines running. I've got them assigned to the correct coalition (blue in this case) and I've got them in the correct nation. But when I shoot at them, it doesn't register any hits. So I've swapped them out for actual units of the same type but then they sit there with engines running getting blown up and that just sucks. 2. I've got at trigger point for a flight of four enemy aircraft to take off from the runway the moment a FAB-100M bomb hits anywhere inside the trigger zone. However, they don't spawn when I bomb that location. If I change the trigger point to my aircraft entering the zone, it works. 3. It takes half the length of the mission for my friendly units to start up, backtrack, depart and form up. Can I make them depart in formation of at least more quickly? As a result, if I just depart and leave them behind they fly low level to catch up and smash straight into hills. 4. I've got two random enemy aircraft just flying around at the start of the missions which I didn't place there and which I can't see in the unit list...how does that happen? I'd like to use simple Comms so I've got that set. I can communicate between members of my flight but not with the tower, why might that be? I want to make some MiG 15 missions for people to play and hopefully get the old MiG a bit more love but man it's taking me hours and hours to make a simple 45 minute mission. Please help me.

Hi All, I'd really like to get into building missions and campaigns, particularly for some of the less loved aircraft like the MiG 15. Trouble is, I've watched the tutorials and just can't quite bring it all together to make my ideas work. What Id like to build is this: You are a North Korean recruit who takes part in a modern conflict (potentially as a Chinese ally fighting against Japan and US for example). I'd use the Caucasus map as a kind of make do Korea and the campaign would ideally give the player the ability to change aircraft type. I figured this type of scenario would work from an authenticity perspective because North Korea have a large fleet of some of the older MiGs (or Chinese versions) and also the newer MiG 29 so their use in a modern conflict would serve as an interesting scenario and the assets in game would fit too. I figured the first few missions could have you training in the MiG 15 before graduating to a MiG 21 or MiG 29 unit. Of course you could just use the MiG 29 or whatever aircraft you have from the outset but I don't know how to make this an option in the campaign. Missions would be based around recon and ground attack for the older aircraft and air to air for the more modern ones. Is this feasible or is it beyond the scope of campaign building? What are people's thoughts on this idea? I feel like I'm missing out on half the joy of DCS by not taking part in mission building but it's just so daunting.

What’s everybody else’s thoughts on the spin characteristics or even just the stalling for the MiG 15? I did some testing before and the stall seems really benign, very little tendency to wingdrop. With low speed, full rudder, full rear elevator and even ongoing use of aileron after the stall, the aircraft barely spins. Once it is in the spin it must be held in the spin, letting go of the controls results in the aircraft recovering itself in only about 2 revolutions. This doesn’t seem consistent with the real MiGs reputation.
