  1. I've got reservations about pre-ordering this one. The way the pre-order went, the sale price errors, opting out of the miles program, the South Atlantic map not being part of the free trial program. For me, it just doesn't inspire confidence in the product. I own a number of RAZBAM modules and they're all very good but at least for me, unless I've bought them a long time after release, it's usually a bit shaky. For example, I regretted buying the MiG 19 initially. It's good now but getting to that point, I spent a long time just not using it. I get the feeling when it comes to the F-15, early access is going to protracted beyond the typically lengthy process it already is for most modules. I'm sure it'll be another great module in the fullness of time but I'm not feeling the hype this time.
  2. It's pretty typical De Havilland I think haha. The Chipmunk (although not all have the same panel) has it's RPM gauge and altimeter right next to each other and if it's the original instrumentation they look very similar with the white and green numbering. Cruising at 2000ft with 2100rpm set it's easy to mix them up sometimes and find yourself pitching down on the RPM gauge.
  3. Thanks Newy, There's no mention of AI on the module early access page but it does come up in the FAQ. Is this something that will be done or is it more of a nice to have? It feels like the Mosquito is on the backburner a bit but it's arguably the best WW2 module we have (or the P-47, it's a hard choice). Would just be really good to have an idea of where it's sitting in the priority list.
  4. I wasn't aware DCS had such things as exclusively single player or multiplayer modules. As I understand, all modules are suitable for single or multiplayer. The AH-64 does have AI piloting control. It's reasonably good for keeping the aircraft in one place or steering it while you're doing other things from the front seat. Conversely, the gunner AI isn't too bad either if you just want to change weapon selection, burst mode or engage a target. Given the AH-64, Mi-24 and F-14 (which as we know has a really good AI functionality) feature AI, it seems reasonable to expect the Mosquito will as well, particularly as it has been mentioned by developers as a feature to be added in the later stages of early access. I don't expect much from the Mosquito AI if it ever does come. It needs to be able to hold level flight on a constant heading, hold level flight onto a heading, and orbit. For navigator AI, it seems reasonable to expect it will be able to tune a frequency. I'm not sure what the navigators other roles were on the Mosquito but it would be usual in a multi crew aircraft for the extra crew member to handle feathering of the engines and fire extinguishing. However I recognise this is normally a function of a co-pilot/pilot monitoring rather than a navigator. I would very much like to buy the Mosquito, I think it's a really cool module but the stagnation in it's development doesn't fill me with confidence that these features will be implemented. Given I'm almost exclusively single player, that makes it a no go for me at it's current price. For $30 USD, I'd buy it as is.
  5. No, I'm asking for an idea of when the single player features previously mentioned will be implemented. If you either have incomplete information, or nothing to contribute, please kindly refrain from commenting.
  6. I've trialed the aircraft twice, it's great but I'm holding off purchase as it's development appears to have stagnated. Can somebody point me to a roadmap or recent dev update, preferably with a timeline of some description please. I've seen others make similar posts but as yet haven't seen much info that addresses what they've raised. For me the primary stuff remaining is: -Some means of pilot controlling the aircraft while player is in navigators seat tuning radios/navaids. -Some means of directing the navigator to tune radios/navaids without me having to change the seat. Is this happening?
  7. My current specs are i7 9700k, RTX 2060 super, 32Gb RAM, DCS on its own 1TB nvme. 750watt power supply. I have an MSI Z390 motherboard. At the moment, DCS is the only game I play that I’m not getting the performance I want in single player. I’d prefer not to upgrade the CPU for another year or two but I think it’s about time I upgraded GPU. Heres my two options for the money I have where I live. I can buy a second hand RTX 3090 or I can buy a new RTX 4070ti. Can I even run a 4070 with my z390 board? I understand I’d need to upgrade to a 850 watt power supply. When I do finally upgrade my CPU I’ll need to stick with whatever GPU I have for at least another year due to lack of $$$. Any advice would be appreciated
  8. So I tried to do a bit more research into WW2 aircraft approaching Mach 1 and didn’t find anything on the Mosquito. There’s quite a bit of info about the P-38 tho and that aircraft has a similar max speed to the mosquito. That being said, it’s still nowhere near Mach 1. Turns out P-38 pilots did run into compressibility issues at high altitude in dives. So having looked at that, I suppose it is likely that a mosquito in a dive could run into similar issues. For interests sake, for the P-38 the documents give a critical Mach number of 0.66 and beyond this pilots experience difficulty with the elevator.
  9. https://airminded.org/2011/04/12/war-crimes-from-the-air/ This is an interesting article about some of the things German POWs admitted to each other in private (not knowing they were being recorded). Amongst other things, it describes the strafing of civilians. In contrast, here's a documentary about P-47s operating in Italy during WW2. If you go to 25:53 (or thereabouts), the narrator talks as if he's the pilot and describes the strafing of random "targets" simply because there's ammo left. "Who's that in that field? No friend of mine" followed by gunfire. Now whether that's what the pilots in the footage were actually doing, I don't know (you know how journalists can be). In reading/watching various bits of air combat from numerous wars, I've seen several examples of what I can only describe as being akin to buck fever. Finally, take the example of the 190th Fighter Squadron friendly fire incident in Afghanistan (2003). A couple of Air National guard pilots on their first combat mission, strafed a column of British troops, killing one and wounding five. We could talk all day about the human factors involved in the incident (but I won't). However, listening to the recording I got the impression of a couple of guys just desperate to shoot something, anything, desperate for a target and they made the picture fit what they wanted to see. Obviously this doesn't mean every pilot, or pilots from a particular nation demonstrate blood lust or poor judgement. But just imagine yourself as a 19-25 year old being put in charge of a high performance machine of war. You're there to fight, in a conflict the scale of WW2, would you return to base with ammo remaining? Would you be able to exercise discipline and good judgement day after day despite increasing fatigue? Most of us will never know.
  10. Was the video about dive performance to do with the mosquito? I wouldn’t have thought Mach number would be relevant to the mosquito. Mach number is a ratio of aircraft speed to the local speed of sound where Mach 1 would see the aircraft meeting the sound barrier. That being said, as the aircraft approaches the sound barrier, the airflow over the wing (or perhaps another part of the aircraft) is travelling faster than the speed of the aircraft itself and that air may break the sound barrier before the rest of the aircraft does. The speed at which this occurs is called Mcrit and for something like a commercial airliner might occur at around about Mach 0.84 give or take. In terms of the speed of sound itself, in standard atmospheric conditions at sea level, it sits at around about 660kts (760mph) and decreases with altitude (decreasing temperature). So what does this all mean for the Mosquito? The mosquitos wing isn’t designed for high speed flight and its “never exceed speed” sits at about 425mph (I think), that would be Mach 0.55. That’s a long way off running into any of the difficulties of high speed flight. But let’s say the pilot put it into a dive and just held it there from high altitude, busted through the never exceed speed and didn’t do anything about it. I’d be speculating as to what would happen to the aircraft precisely but at the very least the aircraft would wind up being over stressed in some way. Whether it would break up or not, I’m not sure, pull enough G above it’s max speed and yea eventually something will snap. But let’s take it further, let’s say somehow it didn’t break up and the aircraft held together in that dive well above Vne. It’s probably still going to be difficult for it to run into compressibility issues as the faster the aircraft goes, the more drag it will experience and it will tend to slow down. For those aircraft that do manage to approach Mach 1 that aren’t designed for it, you can get weird stuff like control reversal where youll try to roll right but the aircraft will roll left. This can occur because the force through the ailerons actually twists the wing around the spar. I hope this information is what you were looking for. Long story short, if you’re in the mosquito anywhere near Mach 1, you’ve got bigger problems than compressibility.
  11. Hahaha oh man I actually saw this when nobody else had posted and didn't understand if I simply had to post a reply here or if there was more.
  12. Isn't that the usual 30% early access amount? In the December sale it was 50% off but I missed it, been hanging out for the Spring sale to make up for that haha
  13. Hi All, Whats the usual price of the Mosquito (early access)? Been hanging out for this to go on sale but looks like it’s remained at the usual price.
  14. Can somebody help me understand what the information in the FPS box (top left) means. I think I'm possibly limited by my GPU. The performance improvement for me hasn't been quite so dramatic, still periods of large FPS drops over trees for example but I think it's improved at altitude. Hard to say until I start running some missions. In any case the information presented to me will be something along the lines of "FPS: 71 T: 52.361 GPU BOUND (theor. FPS 150)". I understand FPS but it's the GPU BOUND and theoretical FPS I don't understand.
  15. What will happen to existing Normandy single player campaigns? I'm guessing that'll be down to campaign developers but I'm at 356gb install size now and will need to start making some cuts. It would've been great if Channel and Normandy could have merged but given that's not what's happening I'll probably be getting rid of the original Normandy. Fingers crossed campaigns become compatible with Normandy 2.0 as I tend to find with upgraded modules, this can be lacking. For a primarily single player user it's not so good. It's great that this work is being put into maps and into the WW2 portion of DCS, I'll definitely be upgrading. That being said, the WW2 portion of the game is pretty fractured having campaigns available on Normandy 1 but not Normandy 2 and having separate maps for what are almost the same area is probably going to end up limiting the success of WW2 in DCS rather than enhancing it.
  16. Am I right in thinking it's a 30% pre-order discount and then once it enters early access the discount is 20%? If so, I'll definitely go for the pre-order discount but prefer to wait until they indicate a release date. RAZBAM make some great stuff but I've found they tend to hit more teething problems than I've noticed with the likes of Heatblur so I'm a bit gunshy when it comes to putting the $$$ early.

    No radio?

Just trialed the aircraft. It's pretty cool but just odd that it points out the radio in the training mission and what each control does but the radio doesn't seem to be modeled. Does anybody know why they opted not to model the radio as the rest of the aircraft seems so well done? (I really like the landing gear system). Anybody know much about the aerodynamics for this aircraft? It 'feels' a bit overly twitchy in yaw even considering the limitations of sitting at a desk with crude sim gear. Spin recovery seems nice, went from an upright spin to a vertical spin seemingly without much transition, I suspect I recovered from the initial spin then immediately put myself in another but it happened so quick it's hard to say.
  18. Please add AI such as exists in the Mi-24, the AH-64 and the Tomcat. It doesn't need to be able to do a lot but it does need to be able to do some basic tasks. 1. An AI pilot to at least maintain level flight while a human navigator tunes the receiver for navigation 2. An AI navigator that can tune frequencies and feather engines. I'm not sure what a Mosquito navigator's full duties were but it is unusual in a multi crew aircraft for the Pilot flying to also be the one operating feathering and fuel controls (particularly when they're behind you). Having a command option to direct your Navigator to secure an engine would be immensely helpful when you're taking fire (or on fire). Haven't bought the Mosquito yet but having trialed it twice in the warbird department it may be my favorite aircraft or at least a close second to the P-47. The Mossie has such a fantastic mission set.
  19. Trying to fly the Crossbow mission. I get correct tuning to Eastchurch and fly to it as waypoint 1 but a couple of things happen. My visual DF indications will track normally but on passing overhead Eastchurch they continue to indicate on track rather than collapsing as I pass overhead. I'm unable to tune to any other DR channel successfully. What am I missing
  20. It’s a great deal if you’re new to DCS or you’re missing a heap of modules. The bundles are incredible for people who don’t own many modules. I tend to buy one module every sale. Not one of these bundles is an option and that’s fine but its just a bit odd that you will see discounts for getting black shark 3 if you already own 2 yet when it comes to bundles there’s absolutely no allowance at all. I don’t expect everybody will agree with me but I think there’ll be plenty of people feel the same way. I suppose just consider this post as customer feedback and do with it what you will. I want to buy the mosquito but this pricing set up has put me off. Maybe down the track a bundle will come about that I can make use of.
  21. I was just about to buy the Mosquito but after looking at the bundles I see it's massively overpriced even on sale. I bought the P-47 only a few months ago (also on sale) which means if I buy the Mosquito now at sale price I will have paid $67 for the two modules versus the $50 bundle price. That's pretty on the nose. It'd be nice to see options for people to complete the bundle package without being penalised for already owning a module. Have opted not to purchase the Mosquito on this occasion as I just can't bring myself to pay $9 less than the bundle price for two aircraft to get only the one aircraft. As an aside. I recently got a visa gift card. It's not quite enough to purchase a full priced module down the track. Is there any way of loading money into an account so I can put it on then pay the difference down the track.
  22. Finally got round to buying NTTR, pretty much because of Zone 5. Awesome campaign. With all the procedures getting to and from the range included, this feels the most like actually operating an aircraft I've ever experienced in a game. More of this type of thing please, it's absolutely fantastic.
  23. Actually this second example is probably better, few spikes to 100% in this one. Thanks NTTR CPU use 2.trk
  24. Hi Flappie, I had trouble replicating the issue but this track should show some of what I'm talking about. It appears to be spikes in CPU use. Generally it's staying at around 36% but it'll climb, peak at 90-100% stay there for a few moments then drop back to 36%. Am I right in thinking 100% GPU usage is normal? Each update, it gets harder and harder to run DCS where with no change to settings I'm now down to 25FPS at times whereas I used to be stable at much higher rates. This could be part of that technological creep that's leaving me behind. NTTR CPU use.trk
  25. Hi All, Haven't put this as a bug because I don't know if it is one. I've just trialed the NTTR map considering buying it. I'm just noticing CPU usage I don't get on other maps. I'm getting as high as 100% CPU and 100% GPU usage simultaneously then CPU usage will drop back to circa 40% then back up to 100% again. Just seems odd, I can't recall seeing 100% CPU usage at any other time. My specs: i7 9700k, RTX 2060 super, 32GB GSkill RAM ,DCS installed on it's own nvme SSD with 500gb space remaining (50%).
