AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?

Do you think they’ll do 5900X 3D? -
[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Digitalvole replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
I’ve been loving Liberation since it’s reinvention a couple of years back. Thank you so much for providing us with this, and for free! But, has any one got any tips to get the ai to be at least semi-effective? I’m sure they used to be better than they are now. The only missions I can rely on them to (nearly) get done are strikes and barcaps. Though even strike missions only ever result in 3 targets getting hit. SEAD for example, they don’t fire any HARMs. They seem to just dive to the deck and fly straight at the SAM site until the enivitable happens, and they catch a missile in the face. I know this isn’t caused by Liberation, it’s just DCS ai, but was hopeful some of you guys might have found some clever ways to make the ai a bit better than hopeless? -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Ah yes, I know what you mean. Well I just tried it out again, and either it must have improved or I was doing something wrong before (my money’s on the latter) but it’s bloody great now! The only complaint I have so far is the radar page in the hornet, especially contacts, are quite wobbly but I think I can live with that. -

Thanks @edmuss I’ll give it another go this weekend. What is the “Waterboarding effect” btw? -

I tried that, my brain/eyes gave it a hard No Good news on the other stuff, can I just re enable it with open composite or do I need to do the whole clean install thing again? I’d like to give it a try, but more reprojection artefacts than SVR does put me off, I’ve got a pretty solid image in SVR. Well I guess you don’t know till you try, right. -

Is Liberation still being worked on? It’s been very quiet around here for a while. I’m using 5.2 (I think, whatever the latest stable one is on GitHub) is there any news on new versions? -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?

I read that Reddit post this morning too, not overflowing with praise hehe. But, it was 1440p not 4K or VR so there’s still a sliver of hope. Also, there was an article on PC Gamer this morning basically saying the 4080 looks like awful value for money compared with 3090/3080 4090/4080. But it’s vanished, wonder if Nvidia asked them to take it down? Finally, Nvidia claim Moore’s law is dead, and that’s why they are charging as much as they are. Hmmm, suspicious. For me it’ll be worth it if I can set clouds to ultra, stop needing fsr/shader mod and set view distance to max whilst keeping the performance I have now. This is seeming less and less likely. I wish I had found this to be the case, but sadly not. I found it it wasn’t 90fps it would judder and make my eyes hurt. I’ll try again at some point soon, if I can remember how. -

If it wasn’t worth it for me but I still bought it, then I’d be being a fool with my money. -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
It does, I tried OpenXR but I found the motion smoothing/asw/some more names I’ve forgotten, too aggressive. Far more jelly wobbles in the cockpit than I get with SVR. It’s a damn shame, because besides that it seems to have many benefits. Has this been improved in the last couple of months? Bloody hell does it look good without it turned on though, I was gob smacked! Sadly 90fps is not going to happen with the 5080 if the cpu side isn’t improved. I’m on it -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?

Yup flying in VR. Waiting for proper benchmarks is deffo the best thing to do, it’s just so boring. Stand down Hype gland. My system is a 3090, 5900X, 32gb ram on a 1tb nvme. Problem is it’s all wrapped up in an Alienware R10 so, hot and noisy. But I’d preordered a G2 and then all the gpu madness happened so it was my only option to get a 3090. I’ve fixed this problem by ordering a new PC with the same cpu and more/faster ram but no GPU. Was going to put the 3090 in there but I’m tempted to just wait till the 4090 comes out and have the R10 for everything that isn’t DCS. Because who doesn’t need a 3090 for turn based strategy games, right? Yeah, this is what I thought to. Im aware that it’s not all about gpu power, but till we get multithreading I don’t think there is a cpu that will be much better than what I have in any mission with much going on so we just have to make do. I can fly the AH64 in Syria ok, but it’s not very pleasant over a city with the flir on and the pnvs is even worse. Going by fpsvr the gpu is getting hit harder in these situations than the cpu. Hoping a 4090 would help here, I could lower my settings but I don’t want to do that just for one module. Also I do like new shiny things -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Hmm 30% is tempting. Your last point is going to be the potential fly in the ointment though, guess we’ll have to wait and see. (But I want it now! *stamps feet*) Though true for some (and let’s be honest, it’s a nice feeling) I just want to be able to fly the AH64 over Syria without lowering my gfx settings. I’m very happy with them for everything else I fly. Also I’d have thought there will be new HMDs between now and Xmas 2023. -
I know there’s not a lot of info out yet, and what is out there is from the mouths of the manufacturer so maybe not totally reliable hehe. But I was wondering what you guys who know about these things think? I was planning on getting one, but now I’m not so sure. Especially if big gains are only made using there upscale software (DLsomething or other) which won’t help us much. Anyhoo, what are your thoughts? I need to know whether or not to activate the part of my brain dedicated to hype.

Apologies if it’s already been posted (couldn’t see it though), but thought some may not have seen it yet. Thought it was cool how they dealt with the F15Cs in DCAT. I’m assuming the F15s had Sparrows not Amrams. Also doesn’t this confirm (not that it matters now) that the Phoenix could go active on its own? Or am I miss understanding things? Which happens more often than I’d like. Also, shooting targets down at 150 miles, crikey! Not fighters Im sure, but still that’s a long way.

Thanks, but it’s ok I don’t have them mixed up I must not be explaining it very well. I didn’t realise when you have Qeyeballs selected the pod moved in real-time with my head movements (though this could just be a coincidence, it could be jester moving it around and by chance it was mirroring my head movements). What was most confusing was if I selected a spot on the ground out the right hand side of the aircraft he moved the pod to the left side. Basically he’d put it on the opposite side I selected. But if I took off the NVGs it worked properly. I tried it a few times but it’s always possible I’m doing something daft, or I had a haunted Lantirn.
-
I think it’s just “found armour.” But that is an assumption on my part due to the text in the Jester wheel, I could well be wrong. I’ll check this morning. Unrelated to zoom/fov control, but I had some rather odd behaviour with the lantirn in a night mission the other day, as usual it’s probably something I’m doing wrong. If I had the NVGs enabled Qeyeball was not behaving at all, kept going all over the place. I noticed that it seemed to be mirroring my head movements in the vdi until I designated a spot on the ground at which point it would look in the opposite direction. If I designated something on the right of the aircraft it would look left. I put it down to Jester having a harder time because it’s dark, but if I turned off NVGs it worked properly again. Strange. But I’m more than likely just missing something.

I’m going to echo Al-Azraq, please please please! 8 ground targets, 4x btr 80 4x T90. I obviously want to use my 4 bombs on the T 90s but without being able to ID the ground targets I’ve no control over what gets hit. This doesn’t seem very realistic to me. Seems odd that we can ask jester to adjust all manner of things with the radar (that I imagine a real Rio would do off his own back) but not with the lantirn. Please add this function, it’ll make a big difference to us ground pounders.

Ok fair enough, ditto, but if you talked to me like that in the pub I wouldn’t have much respect for you and I’d politely ask you to leave me alone. Just saying. Relax mate you sound like you take this stuff a bit too personally. You’ve made a few assumptions and (by the looks of it) skim read my post. I’ll try and address your points one by one. So you say, but scroll up and you’ll see there is plenty of contradictory advice on this. But in my (limited) experience, and in the scenario I’m using (6x Mig 29 vs either 2 or 4 F14s) anything less than 40nm leads to getting too close and getting shot down. Mainly because the missile takes quite a while to reach its target. I did say in my post that “maybe I’m trying to put it in a scenario it isn’t meant for”. I have at no point said the missile is broken. But if it’s not suitable for what I use DCS for then I need to fly a different airframe. No problem. Rmax of a Aim 7 at 30,000 ft is 30nm according to Prez’s f14 video (great vids btw). I was at 46,000, as I said. So does this seem so ridiculous to be considering going to the Aim 7 over the Aim 54? I’m not going to shoot at 30 nm but I can start thinking about how to employ the Sparrow rather than support a Phoenix till it goes active after it’s loft, by which time the bandit is almost up my nose. Hmm, first paragraph of my post says I’m new to all this. I started trying to learn the Aim 54 about not long before the latest patch. Assume makes an ass of u and me. I think if you’d read my post properly, or not got mad half way through perhaps? you’d have seen I’m new to all this. Again, Assume makes a ass…. And I can’t resist pointing out, as I said, I had no problems in a single Hornet. May I offer you some advice? I’m sure you are knowledgeable and have a lot to share, but if you come across as an A-hole (not saying you are one, but you are coming across a bit like one) people aren’t likely to listen. Maybe you just had a bad nights sleep and aren’t having a great morning, it happens to the best of us. Right now I have to fix a curtain rail my daughter has just ripped out the wall, I’m not having a great morning either, so I apologise if I come across as overly annoyed. Thanks for the advice though, I will bear it all in mind. Edit; I was a bit exacerbated by my continued failures when I posted, but the post above mine pretty much my thinking on what’s going on. I think the Ai is too capable of dodging these missiles, not that the missile is broken.

Can we say “it’ll be fine” and just hope for the best? Im pretty close to admitting defeat now tbh. I just can’t get it to work, maybe I’m using it wrong, maybe I’m trying to put it in a scenario it isn’t meant for I dunno. I’m pretty new to all this so my own suckyness is probably playing a considerable part. 4 (me and 3 ai) Tomcats (46k feet M1) fire 16 54Cs at 6 MiG 29s (30k feet hot) from 40 miles out. Final score F14s killed 2 Migs, Mig 29s killed all the Tomcats. I’ve tried this now many times and the only kill I’ve had was under 20 miles (so no loft). 16 missiles and 2 hits at the cost of all Tomcats. Im going to try one more time, this time shooting at 30 miles, any closer and I might as well be using Aim 7s. My prediction is that due to the loft I’ll need to support those missiles till I’m well within there missile range and die before they go active. I thought I’d try it in a Hornet to see if it’s just an un-winnable situation, just me no ai wingman, and I shot three of them down and made good my escape. So 1 Hornet is more potent than 4 Tomcats? Maybe Mr Cheney was right after all? haha only joking, but I’m sure I’ve annoyed lots of people, so now I’m going to run for my life…

You sir are one lucky son of a bi.. err gun! I had a helicopter flying lesson once, I was <profanity>e at it even though I’d read Chickenhawk at least twice. Damn dude, that must have been amazing. Highlight of my life so far has been, (not including family stuff ie kids, meeting my wife etc) 5 days in SA seeing great white sharks up close. It’s pretty crazy seeing one of them swim under your legs. But, if I was able, I might just swap that for an hour in a Viper (or half an hour in a Tomcat )

Is there anyway to select which TWS target is priority 1? I’m pretty sure if I ask my ai wingman to engage he’ll shoot at the nearest 4 and I’d like to shoot at the 2 behind them. Is that possible?
