  1. Some where between the ground and 2k feet. I think what happened (twice) was I had a character already on the little keyboard thingy screen, so it was entering 0A for example instead of just A. Hope that makes sense. I wish we didn’t have to set Auto range every time we switched weapons. Also I remain a god awful shot with or without auto ranging.
  2. I had something similar last night, hot start btw. Took off, set rockets to auto, all good. Used all my rockets (and only managed to hit one truck! But that’s another story) and then selected gun. But try as I might I could not get the gun to go Auto range. Would that be a rad alt issue too? Edit: Looks likely to be user error
  3. I thought I heard Wags say in the latest Air Combat Sim podcast that given the current geopolitical situation and the fact ED has offices/staff in the USSR er I mean Russia they now have to be very careful when it comes to potentially sensitive information. Thanks Pootin Edit. Thought I’d better add that I am in no way criticising ED or it’s staff for where they have offices or where they’re from.
  4. I’m at the other end of the spectrum, every one in my family has it except me, so I’m getting very little flying time! What time I have had has been great though. I could never land the Huey, I’d always get VRS or something, and just drop like a rock. I can land the Apache and have managed to get it on the deck of a moving carrier. It wasn’t pretty and I’m sure a real pilot would actually puke if they saw it, but it didn’t explode so I was happy. Weapons are a different matter, I honestly couldn’t hit a barn door from three paces away. Oh and this is the module the SimShaker was made for. Only bummer is not really being able to use the flir as it tanks my performance, that and not having a cpg with a pulse.
  5. It was the Simplex shader mod, disabled and all is well
  6. Thanks BIGNEWY, I should get a chance tomorrow to run a repair, disable mods etc. If none of that fixes it I’ll post the crash file. Just thought I’d ask in case I could save myself some time. Thanks again
  7. Apologies if I’ve missed a thread covering this. When I turn on the Flir in every aircraft I’ve tried (A10 F18 AH 64) I get a CTD. I know the first step is to disable all mods (running the usual VR ones) but thought I’d just check if anyone else was having the same problem and found a solution. Thanks
  8. I haven’t had my one for long, I’m never sure if I have the profiles setup properly. It’s hard to find out how it should be, but yeah it is great
  9. Is there an update for the software? My Simshaker Jetpad doesn’t have a profile for the AH 64
  10. Respect. If I could I’d give a like to your green beret. Ever ridden on the side of an Apache?
  11. My 2 pence worth. Had a very quick fly around last night, I’m using a 3090, 5900X and 32gb RAM and a G2. First off, WOW! It’s amazing to be in that cockpit. I was worried about the monocle thingy (sorry i have yet to learn Apache language) feeling awkward and uncomfortable, I have the JHMCS in the jets rendered n both eyes as I find just one eye uncomfortable. But in this it just feels natural, not to mention very very cool. The attention to detail is next level! Little bits and bobs in the cockpit moving and vibrating gives a real sense of place, can’t wait for it to work with the Simshaker Jetpad. It’s really good fun being in a helicopter in VR down low, but oh boy does it feel slow when you gain any altitude. I mean it makes the A10 feel like an F16 But that’s the nature of the beast. Performance wise I find it fine for a fly around an empty Black Sea map but honestly beyond that I think performance is a bit to low for me right now. Flew over a city on the Syria map and it wasn’t a pleasant experience to be honest, and I haven’t had the flir on yet. Oh and for reference I regularly tool about in the F14 and I find the Apache considerably more demanding on the hardware, but I’m sure performance will improve over time. Until then it’s just cool to know I have it in the hanger. I’m frankly amazed at how cool it is to sit in the cockpit of EDs AH-64. Congratulations and Thank you ED, you’ve some how managed to out do yourselves yet again, Fantastic work! Ps. Could we have a special option to enable a Royal Marine to be strapped to the wing?
  12. Ah ok, thanks for clarifying that. Seems like a tough spot to be in for ED: We don’t want to model it if we can’t do it accurately, but if we don’t model it the entire module isn’t accurate. Proper Preparation etc… Im going to keep my fingers crossed and try to keep my mouth shut now, I’ll just be repeating myself.
  13. I hope that now the AH64 is out that we’ll get some info from ED on what is going on with the Hornet. But supposing the above is the case and our hopes for MSI are dashed due to lack of information (that ED can use legally) I feel that puts the idea of “a specific airframe from a specific timeframe” on very dodgy ground. Not to mention it’s a pretty big cock up on ED’s side to only be finding this out now. (If that is what is ofc). And at the very least we would be owed an apology. Finding out that a relatively major feature of an aircraft is undoable at this stage is pretty poor in my opinion and very disappointing. It’s tempting to take a screen grab of any roadmaps for future modules on release day, just in case. (Again the above is only relevant if it’s true we won’t get it.) The F16 is getting some MSI features, is that right? I’d argue there is good reason to “best guess” it, as surely our F18 is more realistic with a guesstimate MSI than no MSI at all. Or do we remove features to make it an accurate earlier Hornet? As I said, I hope we can get some info sooner rather than latter now the Apache is out. Being left in limbo sucks and doesn’t do anyone any good. And just to be clear I’m not demanding new features, just a couple of paragraphs of text and maybe some bullet points if they are feeling generous. Surely that wouldn’t take long.
  14. I read something a few months back that said OpenXR was going to become the industry standard for all VR headsets. Even Facebook said they want to use OpenXR for there HMDs. If this is true it’s a matter of when rather than if DCS will start using it. I too am very much looking forward to that day.
  15. I’ve recently got my head around AAR, it’s far from perfect but I can now get “transfer complete” with only falling out the basket once. I can cope with a turning tanker and wake turbulence which is something I thought I’d never manage. Honestly it’s changed my life! (Slight exaggeration there.) To be able to now do something, which initially seemed almost impossible, through practice and determination feels great and I’ve applied the same mindset to other aspects of my life. To anyone who is struggling, keep at it. You CAN do it, it just takes a fair bit of practice. And to put things in perspective I was just watching an episode of Air Warriors, was saying about an F16 pilot who had a fuel leak and had to stay connected to the tanker for over 30 minutes whilst both planes flew back to base. I would have been so screwed haha
  16. Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too, though I still think it leaves us a button short. I’ll have to count the buttons tonight, rock’n’roll lifestyle!
  17. Brilliant, thanks. The shift modifier was my first thought, though I may confuse myself a bit. Also was hoping maybe one button on each row isn’t used much. Though it’s unlikely that, say OSB 4, is not used. I’d expect it to vary depending on which “page” you have displayed. My final idea was using the contrast and brightness buttons but I think that still leaves me short one button (?). Anyway it seems there are workarounds, so hooray and thank you
  18. What do you think? I’ve recently bought a set (I like pressing buttons, which is handy as the Hornet is my primary ride). But as I’m sure everyone has noticed those rascals who designed the AH64 snuck an extra button on each row! what’s a chairforce pilot to do? Did they not think of us when designing the real world flying machine?! Very inconsiderate if you ask me. Anyway, back in the real world, has anybody got any ideas or are they just not gonna work in the AH64? Also is having an Xbox pad on hand for the front seat a thing? I still haven’t pre ordered it, for various reasons none of which have to do with EA in general. To give just a few: I don’t have much time at the mo, Elden Ring is mighty tempting, I want to see some user reviews first and also at full price these modules are a bargain imho. That being said I am finding it harder each day to resist pressing the preorder button, it’s very cool when you finish downloading an update and there’s a sparkly new aircraft in the hanger. But it’ll gather dust for at least three months. What should I do! This is essentially how my enteral dialog has been going since about September last year, maybe I should just get it so the voices in my head will be quite.
  19. In VR it’s a bit easier on the eyes. Carrier Ops with the Super Carrier are great, the deck crew guiding you to the cat makes the world feel more real. If you buy the MFDs from Thrustmaster you get to press more buttons, and who doesn’t like pressing buttons? Landing it on a runway is bloody easy! SA and JHMCS seem more fleshed out in the Hornet. I think for me it really just came down to the fact it was the first multi role jet and therefore time spent in it is why it now feels like home. If the F16 had come out first it deffo would be the other way round (always loved the Viper, never was a big fan of the Hornet. That’s changed ofc, big Hornet fan now)
  20. Hmm, though I agree with most of what you said I still think there is room for improvement in certain areas. As I mentioned, given ED’s chosen business model I feel communication needs to be better than average to stop things quickly spiralling in some circumstances.
  21. Thank you Bignewy for the response, and honestly I 100% understand what you are saying. I have no issue with the length of time these modules take. They are mind blowing in there levels of detail! I’m really just talking about the companies communications. And though I do see and agree that there is a vocal minority that will quickly put ED in a catch 22, I believe they are just that, a minority, and can ruin things for the rest of us. Holy smokes social media has shown us that “vocal minorities” are doing a good job of wrecking everything, and companies are very careful not to annoy the Twitter lynch mobs. You can trust that the majority of your fan base are going to stick with you through good and bad. Again, I do see your point.
  22. I’d respectfully suggest if ED’s customers keep repeating the same questions maybe ED should take notice and change tack a little (by which I mean with there communication practices not development practices). We are patient, we do understand the ups and downs, we do love your products. We don’t like it when we feel like naughty children in a classroom being told to be quite or ignored. We are paying customers. I’m really not as annoyed as all that makes me sound, but I think it’s true non the less. It really can feel like “it’s our way or the highway” sometimes. Which I suppose it is until there is competition in the market. Why I think, on occasion, ED shoots them self in the foot with this stuff is because all it takes is a quick update on the state of things from someone like Wags when widespread speculating starts on something that was supposed to happen now not happening, to give one example. It would take minutes, surely. And then problem solved! No one likes being left in the dark and we all know rampant internet speculation is rarely a good thing. Example: MSI. Just tell ppl one way or the other what’s happening and “Poof” speculation over and we can all move on happy (or not) in the knowledge we now know where we all stand. It’s probably not that simple but it can’t be rocket science hard. Especially considering the business model ED has adopted I’d say good comms is vital, if this was a developer releasing a different game into EA on steam there’d need a pretty good explanation as to why anyone should buy there third or fourth title when the first one they’d purchased still isn’t finished. The Hornet is on the back burner for a while, that’s fine. No problem, and I’m sure 99% of us understand why that is and are mostly ok with that. My frustration mainly stems from how easy it would be to avoid these things in the first place rather than anything that is or isn’t coming to the module. Anyway, I will remain a loyal customer and truly am very grateful to ED for all there hard work and the fantastic end products. That doesn’t stop me from being a bit mystified by the companies communication policies with its customers sometimes. It’s like having a partner you really love but there not that into you. One more thing, let’s not take any of this stuff personally. I’m talking to a company as one of its customers about how maybe it could handle one aspect of its business a bit better in future. That’s all. Most successful companies welcome this kind of thing, blimey I get asked to fill in a customer satisfaction survey every time I buy anything online! (Crikey that was a long one, I clearly have to much time in my hands today!)
  23. I don’t think the Hornets been abandoned, I just think its time for an official update on what the plan is. ED scores: Making amazing modules 9/10, communicating with there customers 3/10
  24. Has there been any word from ED on any of this stuff? I know things always take longer than expected, and also that they need to release new modules to keep the cash coming in. But reading some of this is making me very wary of getting anything in early access again, just out of interest what modules have left early access/are feature complete? Staff being moved from one project to another temporarily, though disappointing, is understandable but.. The above is worrying. Also talk about certain things not happening due to an hitherto unknown classified status is alarming. Its not the cost of the module but the time and effort one has to put into learning it that would make an incomplete Hornet so heartbreaking imho. Not to mention it kinda flys in the face of “we are modelling a 2007 USN Hornet” because I’d say a 2007 Hornet without said features is about as realistic as a 2007 Hornet with GBU 54s for example. (Is it 2007 or 2005, I can’t remember.) Just saying. Come on ED put your customer service hat on and give us the lowdown, that way this all gets cleared up and no need for us to speculate.
