My 2 pence worth, though I’m waiting on a replacement. I definitely saw mura on mine, and it was more visible than I was expecting, but it’s easy to zone it out in my mind. I was impressed with the clarity but not so much the comfort. But I think I may have sorted that out, and without having to take a hammer to my nose. But having been flying around in the rift s again today as the reverb is back in the box awaiting collection, I must say I really wouldn’t be too bothered if I had to stick with the S and it’s what I will do if the next reverb is a bust. I actually find the cockpit switches and labels easier to read in the S (I know, maybe my eyes are broken) I think because the sweet spot is bigger, and the mfds are fine too. When looking out the window it is much nicer in the reverb and those mfds are also nice and clear, I was especially impressed with the tpod clarity. So in summery I’m certainly not saying the S is better or even as good visually but for me it’s not a million miles away, at least in the cockpit, but I have a sneaking suspicion I’m doing something wrong with the reverb to be coming to this conclusion :)

@Baldrick33 I will certainly bear that in mind if I need to send the next one back
-
Maybe they realised they didn’t have the stock to cover it and had to change, I don’t know if that was ever a thing here in the uk either. Spend some time in a high street shop here and you’ll soon realise customer service is not our speciality haha My 8700k is 4.7ghz so I just assumed. :)
-
Yeah, I think I’ll leave it stock then, last thing I need is my cpu going up in flames. I remember with the cv1 it does take a while to find the optimum comfort/clarity combination but you get there in the end. Having given my nose the once over in the mirror, though it’s is far from pretty, it isn’t overly wonky so I do suspect the cable is pulling the headset down on that side So does one need to be super careful with both ends of the connector, one in the headset and the one in the goes in the card? I tried out my rift s on my laptop with the mini adapter thing and it really did seem like a bad idea and far from a secure connection and quite possible to damage the port. And yeah like you say, if there crap why use them or at least make them less crap
-
@sze5003 I’ve got to send it back first and then they will send a replacement, it says reverb pro on the box but I don’t mind :) my one was activating wmr when I put it on but now when I shutdown my computer it takes quite a bit longer to actually turn off. On a side note did you see much performance gain from OCing your cpu? I’m considering it but last time I did it my temps were getting up into the 90s and I don’t know how much difference 0.3ghz will make Edit. I had mine plugged into the inatek usb card that oculus recommended

Oh there was no missing the lens covers on my one, they were very blue. :) Just got off the phone with HP and they are going to be replacing it (hopefully at any rate, the guy wasn’t sure about stock levels.) I was wondering if the heavy cable is pulling it down on the left side and that it why it’s pushing against the side of my nose. If so that must be fixable with getting the wires arranged better when I wear it. I also notice the mura more than I thought I would, but it’s not game breaking and only really an issue for me in missions where it’s very bright. Thanks for all the advice, it really helps :)

Thanks for the link eaglecrash867, I will check it out. I’ve just spent another couple of hours with the reverb and done a little tinkering and it’s great apart from the nose thing. I got the reporojection working with the indicator on and the little boxes were in the blue for 90% of the time and it felt nice and smooth, I really don’t want to part with it now. But I’ve got to sort out the comfort aspect somehow, the nose bit pushes on the left side of my nose (how much are nose jobs these days?) One thing I did notice tonight was a pinkish smudge on the far right side of the right lens, just about to google that and see if it’s normal or not
-
@rrohde Some of us have more nose than others ;) but I will try again with the straps @sze5003 Yeah bummer, but so it goes, and it’s mainly my faces fault rather than the reverb. I will try what you suggest RE the indicator to see if it is actually on. And to be honest if money was not an issue and my honker wasn’t quite so big I’d probably keep it, and if I can sort out this stuff in the next day or two I will. :) I

So having finally had the time to try out my reverb (been sat in the box for nearly a week) I must say I’m not sure it’s a keeper for me sadly. If I’d got the reverb instead of the rift s I would have been blown away by the clarity, but I didn’t. It is certainly clearer than the S but imho not by an awful lot (I’m gonna have a go on the S again tonight just to make sure.) Performance wise it’s not too bad but not as smooth as the S at pd 1.4 and 2x aa (no aa in the reverb and 100% SS.) it judders quite a bit though I have followed the instructions on how to turn on what I’m going to call “steams asw” (delete the // in notepad) though interestingly it doesn’t come up as on in the steam vr settings that it is on. All of this stuff I’m sure could be improved with some tinkering but the big one for me is how uncomfortable the reverb is, jeez it’s grim in there if you have a nose like mine! No matter how I shift it about it presses on the bridge of my nose and becomes really rather sore after a short while. For me that is the major issue combined with not really seeing £600 worth of improvement over the rift S. obviously these won’t be issues for most people, but the nose pain is really putting me off the reverb

what would be the tell tail signs of a usb type failure?
-
@joebloggs thanks for the heads up, unrelated but your username brings back memories of the 90s, hadn’t heard that name in a long time ;) Ok so I checked inside my pc this morning and it turns out I did plug the inatek usb card into the power supply (no memory of doing that) but it still can’t be relied upon? Interesting. Should it get enough power from the MB USB ports? My power supply is 1000w. I do have a powered external usb hub but I’d guess that wouldn’t be a good place to plug it in. If none of that works I’ll have to get the startek one you have sze5003, I hope it wasn’t much more expensive because funds are running out haha. Oh and my reverb arrives at lunchtime today so I want to learn as much as I can before I plug it in to avoid unnecessary headaches/disappointments. The vr4dcs.com info, is that still current best advice? Bloody useful if so for some one like me coming from oculus

Operation Snowfox - Persian Gulf PvE Playground
Digitalvole replied to Surrexen's topic in User Created Missions General
I tried your mission today for the first time and only briefly, but oh wow! My performance wasn’t great (vr, so my fault) and I’ve no idea how I’m going to get past the SA 10 sites (im playing SP) but still, oh wow. I can’t wait to try again, thank you sir this is brilliant -
Is that the inatek one that oculus recommended for the cv1?
-
That’s some justified outrage right there, I’ll have some too if it happens to me. Fingers crossed for your replacement.
-
Righty oh, thanks

Just ordered my reverb from hp uk, the chap in sales assured me they have sorted all the problems now and the headset will work fine. We shall see. With that in mind, I hope having oculus home installed won’t confuse the reverb as I still want to use my rift s for shooting zombies and things like that. Now to amazon to order an ssd for dcs and some more ram. It’s going to be an expensive night :D And thanks sze5003 and eaglecrash867, your info really helped. I wouldn’t have had thought I could have run a reverb without your reassurances
-
I did that the day before yesterday when I realised my ram was not running at 3000mhz (and had been like that for the past year haha.) Will I need to tinker with that again when I plug in the new ram o you think? Also I did notice in task manager that my ram was at most 64% when playing dcs (with 16gb) made me wonder if another 16 would make any difference is what I’ve got isn’t maxed out? But I bet there’s more to it than that, there usually is ;)
-
I’ve popped a Samsung one in my amazon basket with another 16gb of ram too. I had no idea they were so affordable. Ram not so much but hey ho. So you just moved the dcs open beta folder over to the new one? I guess you left the user/saved games/dcs folder on your C: drive? That’s very handy as my internet connection where my pc sits is pretty awful so re downloading it all would take at least 24 hours
-
Could you recommend an ssd please? Also does dcs benefit from being on the same drive as windows? And finally is it possible to just move dcs onto a new drive or does it all need to be re installed? I’m expecting the latter but would be great if not cause that’ll be a day spent downloading. Thanks
-
Alrighty then I’m going to order one, thanks for the info guys, i’ll Keep the rift s as backup for when I have to send the reverb back to get fixed (almost seems inevitable) but it sounds like it’s worth it. I also have terrible luck with tech goods :D Edit. May I ask what is the image like in the reverb without aa? I find it essential in the rift as I find the shimmer outside the cockpit very distracting with aa off
-
Interesting! Thanks for that :)
-
Does an ssd improve gameplay performance much? I’m running dcs on a hdd too and can live with the load times but am after any in game performance boost I can get
-
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble with you Reverb sze5003, must be most frustrating and I hope you get it sorted soon. I’ve gone from finger hovering over the order button to having a bit of a wobble on the whole idea (not because of your unlucky experience btw.) The more reviews I’ve watched/read make me think my 1080ti is gonna be ok but at the bottom end of the spectrum and therefore will I see a decent improvement over the rift S? (I’d would love to be told Im wrong.) For example my pc can just about push 1.4pd with x2 aa but I’m guessing with a reverb I won’t be able to go above a pd of 1 (or the steam equivalent) with no aa and I’ve no idea what that’s gonna look like and/or perform. And finally I was wondering whether or not you can return it if you just don’t like it or can’t run it properly due to hardware limitations. Doesn’t seem like something you could do in the uk unless it’s faulty. But consumer rights in the uk isn’t one of my specialist subjects ;) Anyhoo good luck sze5003 and thanks for the congrats

Is this laptop enough for DCS?
Digitalvole replied to Noobicum4Ever's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don’t know if this will help but I recently bought an Alienware m17 with an i7 somthing or other and a 1660ti. It’s one of the new ones and I bought it for 3D modelling but I’ve run some games on it (2D and VR) but Not DCS or any other flight sim. Oh my goodness does it get hot and the fans go nuts, if your flying helicopters it may be seen as more immersive but I don’t like it, it really does sound like it’s getting ready for lift off. As I understand it heat and performance hang out at different ends of the playground and laptops get hot I honestly wish I’d spent the money on a 2080ti and a reverb for my desktop but hey ho Edit, just thought I better add by hot I mean the cpu is hitting 100 oC pretty regularly but according to dell that’s to be expected -
Sze5003 I will be eagerly anticipating your opinions on the reverb, I nearly ordered it last night (ive had a rather stressful week and felt like I bloody deserve a treat) but then thought I’d see what you have to say on the matter as I’m still not convinced my system can hack it. I’ve read much more of this (very informative) thread now and I must thank you guys again for answering my questions, the answers weren’t a million miles away. Our second daughter arrived on Monday and things are flipping hectic right now so your help is very much appreciated
