Thanks guys, much appreciated. I’m quite excited now, I’d imagine it’s a step up from the Rift S. Just one more thing, is it best to get it direct from hp? I’m guessing if there are problems with the hmd dealing direct with hp is more straight forward. Also is there a difference between reverb and reverb pro that is important? I’m under the impression it’s just a different strap or some such

I’m sure the answer to my question is here somewhere but I’m seriously time poor at the moment and google hasn’t come up with the goods. I was hoping someone could spare the time to let me know if a 1080ti (with a 8700k) has what it takes to run the reverb in dcs? I own a rift s because I thought a Reverb would require a 2080ti, am I right? I can mostly keep the rift at 40fps with a pd of 1.4 and 2x AA (I get a headache with aa off.) Again thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out and apologies if this information is obvious

@chaos & Canadus, thanks chaps. We already have one in the hanger (she’s just started school and is an absolute star.) That being said it’s a different FM every time or so I hear ;) the seat of my pants (and trousers for that matter) will be thoroughly worn out in no time I’m sure. Also thank you ED for such a fantastic sim, my joint first loves (family not included) are DCS and Warhammer 40k. They are both time intensive hobbies so I’m crap at both but when I get to pop my rift s on my noggin I get to escape into a virtual heaven. Thanks for that Wags & Co Edit. I’ve escaped for an hour so I’m in the pub reading the f16 manual

My take on the f-16: Pre ordered the f16 and was very excited for its release, then... Our 2nd daughter was released into early access (10 days early to be precise) by the “developer” on the 30th of Sept. As a result all I can say is of all the modules I own the f16 has involved the most nappy changes and the highest levels of fatigue ;) I hope you guys and gals are all having a blast but I’m gonna have to wait a bit longer I suppose

Thank you PBO_CEF, so the key for me is gonna be not vaporising myself on the bow of the Stennis! :D

I didn’t change the missionscripting file, I’m new to this, is that what you need to to after a dcs update? Could you possibly point me in the direction of a post with instructions please? Thanks for the reply :) Oh and while I’m asking noob questions, I’m yet to complete the first mission (crashed into the back of the carrier haha) but there is way more targets than me an my wingman can destroy. Do I need to take them all out in the first mission (ie land and rearm) or will the next mission let me go back and finish the job? Feel free to ignore as I know I’ll find out eventually but I can’t get to my computer for a while :(

I feel your pain, I just got it working too, and yesterday was my first chance to have a proper go at it, ho hum. But I’ve just read on the f18 bugs (bug bugs?) forum that INS isn’t working on missions where the date is pre 2000. Is this somthing we can change in the mission editor after the mission is created? Also after exiting the mission yesterday (still on the carrier deck) it didn’t generate a debrief I just got an error msg, anyone else had this?

Is anyone finding the “white flashes” getting a little more intense? I had a new one last night that lasted a few frames and I could see somthing like cross hatching in white green and purple. Gave me the heeby jeebies for a moment. Also I must say what a great review Cripple :) and also I’m sorry to hear your hmd is busted dburne One of the biggest differences I’ve found over the cv1 is spotting stuff both in the air and on the ground. Woohoo I can see now the thing that is about to blow me out the sky ;)

I was hoping someone could help me? When I start the campaign it says I’m missing the navy deck crew module. I have the us navy equipment and airfield equipment folders in mods/tech but I can’t find a navy crewman mod anywhere. Apologies if this has been covered already, I had a good look but couldn’t find an answer. Thanks in advance Please Ignore, I got it working (I hope) deleted and then reinstalled the navy deck crew mod and removed the airfield equipment mod ( for some reason I thought I needed that one) and I got the briefing for the first mission. I can’t wait to play it though will have to wait till tonight.

Apologies if this has been asked already, but what is performance like in vr? This looks really goodbut I wonder if there might be too much going on to run well in vr. I really hope I’m wrong because this looks bad ass

I haven’t noticed a fov change myself and the image clarity is quite a bit better than the cv1. As I type this I realise I’m just repeating what others have said, all so I think I just happen to have an iPd of 63.5 (spot of luck). My eyes are much happier in the S, I loved my rift for three years but i did enjoy taking it off. I get the white noise flashes, though now I know they don’t mean a faulty headset they are so infrequent that they don’t bother me (too much) and hopefully it’ll be fixed. It feels to me how we wished the original rift was but not necessarily what the rift 2 should be so very much a rift 1.5. That being said I’m very happy with my rift S and no need to upgrade my gpu. I’d give it four out of five mk82s

Thanks again BaronVonDoon, will try those tonight. Last night I had less of them but did get one quite “big” one for want of a better word. Let’s hope this isn’t going to become a kick in the knackers for early adopters
-
@ BaronVonDoon; yes that sounds like the same thing and also only in dcs, that makes me feel better. Just wasn’t sure as I had not seen it before in my cv1 and I don’t have the best luck with electronic goods. Thanks for the reply :)

Just wondering if anyone else is getting an occasional white screen (like 1 or two frames of a noisy white) when flying? Had that a few times the first time I used it (for 2 hours) but only twice after lowering the pd from 1.4 to 1.3 on my 2nd session last night. Wanting to know if it’s normal or I have a faulty hmd and sorry if my description is a bit rubbish, i had a late night ;)

How dare you! Don’t you know..... Please imagine this sentence was me getting outraged on someone else’s behalf. Apparently it’s all the rage since social media Anyhoo I’ve no idea I’ve just got back from the pub, but I do know it’s fine to ask questions and people should communicate online as they would in real life. Where being rude has consequences. some of the replies in your last thread annoyed me, and I think once you’ve parted with your hard earned cash you have the right to politely ask reasonable questions.

For those of us in the uk; I just picked up a reprint of a 1940s spitfire training book and other bits and bobs, from The Works for £3. If you have one in your area it’s worth a look, they had plenty of copies in the one I was in. You may already know all the stuff in it (being a very knowledgable bunch) but for three quid I though it was worth mentioning :)

I have real trouble too, especially with no tpod, but even then it’s far from easy. I was trying to hit some armed speed boats yesterday and it was tricky enough to find them in the first place but once they stopped moving and parked up on the beach it was nigh-on impossible. What I did in the end was fly low, draw fire, then make a mental note of nearby reference points. Climb and try to maintain mental image, circle, dive, drop bombs/fire rockets. That doesn’t help make visual contact initially I know. I use dots only labels now with a mod (sorry I forget which one) Also I make my own missions with triggered messages that give me at least a rough idea of where the target is (with randomised group spawns so it’s no so easy to just remember where you put them.) I’ve only ever played dcs with the rift though, I’ve no idea what it’s like on a monitor.

I wish I had those kinda problems ;)

I bought my oculus rift shortly after they were released with the one intention of playing flight sims. I hadnt played a flight sim in the best part of 30 years but having always wanted to fly and having played falcon 3.0, 4.0 janes f117a ah64 etc (apologies if I’ve got the names a bit muddled) as a kid and bloody loving it, the idea of vr suddenly made sense; it’ll be like flying, right!? Well let me tell you, as some one with zero hours flying real planes, I have no idea. But oh my do I love it, I still get a sense of vertigo occasionally, I try and explain it to my friends and family but it’s tricky. Closest I can manage is that when I play a game in 2d it’s like I’ve played a game. But when I play dcs in vr it can feel like a real experience, one that can stay with you for days. All that being said there is the issue with the visuals. And those who don’t like vr because of that have a valid point I reckon. I’ve never used track ir so I can’t comment on that, or monitor for dcs for that matter but having been playing rdr2 in 4K recently (sweet baby Jebus that game looks good!)I can imagine what a jolt it must be. But for me I it’s been a bit of a life changer frankly. It’s not perfect, and holy swear word I can’t wait till headsets come out at affordable prices with better resolution and fov (though god knows how much we’re going to have to spend on a gfx card to run it.) If one of my friends asked me today should he wait to see what gets announced this year or just jump in I would urge him to do the latter. None of my friends play flight sims mind :(

Thanks for the advice uri_ba. I had my weekly ration of free time yesterday so was straight onto dcs, and it really did make up my mind. Huey is ace, zooming around (as much as a Huey can zoom) in 1.5 but the a10 in dcs 2 was chugging and crashing (anyone else get black screen crashes in vr?.) though only thing I have on high is textures the rest is low or off. It's at the point where if I turn things down more such as pd and deferred shading I'm not satisfied with how it looks. I just want to turn it on and it works, is smooth and looks quite nice and am ok with spending some money to make that happen. When you only get a few hours flight time a week (if I'm lucky) I don't really want to spend it in the settings or rebooting because it's crashed again. All that being said if I was sensible I would hold fire on the gfx card for now and see what the cpu upgrade does first, but sadly I'm not very sensible :D -

think how many buses there are between now and then! ;) -

Cor blimey you guys are helpful, thanks a lot! RAM advice has been noted, and I'll have to have a little think about that. As for another ssd I must say I agree with fitness88, I've moved my v2 dcs from my ssd to my normal hd due to space limitations and other than loading times didn't notice much difference either. Thanks Pedro, sensible advice and probably the right thing to do is wait and see what 2.5 is like. But how long will that be (never been very good at waiting, could get hit by a bus tomorrow;) ) and do you think it will it make much difference to performance? As for my cpu I don't really know but I get the feeling it could be better but it could be worse kind of thing. I'm willing to spend some money to improve my vr flying experience cause when it works nicely: WOW! Thanks again :)
