  1. Was about to post an image of my settings but it’s asking me for url, I have no clue what to do about that. It’s just a saved pic on my iPad. Could anyone help? I’d prefer not to have to type it all out :)
  2. Agathos_Deimon Yeah no problem, as soon as I get the chance. The schools being closed has meant I don’t get to play DCS very much at all (I’m currently hiding in the bathroom to type this.) But next time I’m lucky enough to be sat in front of my PC (and have the energy to turn it on) I shall. Though worth bearing in mind it really dose need to be over a place with not much going on on the ground ie the sea, and it doesn’t look particularly pretty. Also I’ve now noticed that frame rates start to take a dip the more parachutes there are floating down. Does anyone know if there is a way to stop or reduce the likelihood of the AI bailing out? Also I’m currently trying to creat a randomised mission with late activated units to keep things vr friendly. The ED missions in the hornet for example, though great, have too much going on in them for me to enjoy in vr as the frame rate tanks. Stuartaston Thanks, just need the spare time to enjoy it now. I didn’t expect a pandemic to drop a 1000lb bomb on my sim time. Kids being off school and trapped in the house is not conducive to any kind of hobby haha
  3. I just thought I’d mention that on Mission 1 I had quite a bit of trouble with planes from my flight either crashing into my right wing whilst on my way to the runway or getting rear ended on the runway. This was on stable branch and I hadn’t requested taxi or takeoff from atc. My workaround was to get better/quicker at taxiing and take off, so every cloud. Only mention it because I get the impression from this thread that it isn’t supposed to happen. And my copy of the book arrived today, can’t wait to get reading and flying this campaign :D
  4. Would it be fair to say lowering PD increases spotting ability but decreases Identification ability and vice versa? At least with the Rift S
  5. Thank you Reflected! At the risk of being off topic here, the thing that surprised me the most in First Light was the pilots ability to decide when he wanted to head back to base. And in general the lack of communication between pilots once the you know what hit the fan. I thought there would have been more communication and certainly not each pilot deciding for themselves when to call it a day. Oh well you learn something new everyday.
  6. Wow this looks like just what I’m after but for the spitfire, would it still work if I popped it into the mission editor and swapped all the p51s for Spitfires? Please say yes ;) Oh also I bought your Big Show campaign and am just waiting on amazon to deliver a copy of the book to me so I can do as you recommended and play the missions after I’ve read the chapter in the book. Can’t wait! Just finished Geoffrey Wellum’s First Light, well worth a read if you haven’t already. Oh and did I read one of your posts where you said you had made a label mod? If so where would I find that I’m having a bit of trouble spotting diving 109s, they blend right into the channel. Thanks for your hard work
  7. Just an update. Turns out the first setting I had to lower was the one marked High Expectation, followed by view distance. Setting view distance to medium seems to have had the biggest impact for me. I can now maintain 80fps in a dogfight 90% of the time with a pd of 1.3 so I’m a happy bunny. Do hope the channel map has better performance than Normandy though I don’t know how that would be the case as it looks like there will be even more eye candy.
  8. Thanks for the replies chaps, all very much appreciated. Chezdajez, Oh yes I was getting lots of that. In fact that was my first indication on starting a mission that there was going to be lots of double vision when I was trying to track bandits. I’m amazed it only happens with the Spitfire, shame we can’t disable the prop disc like you can in il2 (with a mod) or better yet the devs bloody well fixed it. Agathos_Deimon, As tempting as War Thunder is I really like the Sim factor of dcs and the satisfaction of doing it as it would have been done (well as best as I can manage at least) but maybe I should give it a whirl. Stuaraston, yeah I kinda figured, that and moving from PG map with the f18 where I’m convinced overall performance of the map is better, well there are a lot less trees in the desert for a start, and when asw kicks in it is less noticeable at least when ground pounding. I seem to have got it sorted with some tinkering with the gfx settings and unchecking the box marked ‘high expectations’ ;) I’ve now got to a point where I’m at 80fps most of the time in a dogfight. Setting view distance to medium seems to have made a big difference. Also I’ve realised my best bet is to make use of the mission editor and setup bigger furballs over the channel or the less built up areas of Normandy and also reducing cloud density. All pretty common sense stuff really, but I’d been able to not worry about these things so much in the jets and PG map. Last night I had 36 b17s, 4 spitfires and 8 109s fighting it out just south of Ford (6miles from my house indecently) and it very rarely went below 80fps. Same with a 4v8 with light flak over Falaise. Oh and over some empty desert in the Persian gulf it (unsurprisingly) flys along. If only we could setup makeshift airstrips in the desert with the mission editor I could make some missions there and give the Africa Corps a jolly good clobbering. I wonder what performance is going to be like on the new Channel map compared to Normandy. I’m hopping much better but I can’t see how. Any way Thanks again :)
  9. Hello Spitfire pilots, I need your help. I’m finally learning the Spitfire having owned it for years and I’m smitten. Coming from jets and ground pounding this is something new, challenging and satisfying. Dare I say it, more satisfying than fly by wire and dropping gbu’s with wings level and 20000 feet :music_whistling: But I’ve run into a problem when it comes to dogfighting and that is ASW double vision I fly only in VR (I’ve never tried trackir) and single player but the double vision of passing planes when ASW kicks in really breaks the immersion for me. This is much less of an issue in the jets as you don’t tend to chuck the things around the sky so much and dogfights are usually carried out at a distance of 20 miles as opposed to 20 feet. My system is an 8700k @ 4.8ghz, 1080ti and 32gb of ddr4 ram with dcs on a ssd. Using stable branch with a Rift S I’ve lowered all my settings to the point where I’ve now turned everything off except high cockpit textures and visibility and PD down to 1.1 and not only does it look pretty ugly but anything more than 2v2 and the ghosting returns. I’m getting a bit desperate at this stage, I’ve bought the excellent looking Big Show and Epsom campaigns (waiting on amazon delivery of the book too) but I can’t play them without my frames taking a nose dive even after removing units with the F10 option and lowering my graphics settings to the point where it just doesn’t look very nice anymore. So am I just expecting too much and just have to live with the double vision of passing bandits? Are there any recommendations for improving performance/settings? (I can’t really go any lower at this point though.) Or must I instead try the other WWII sim or worse still ditch VR? I wish DCS had better performance in VR, it’s like having something you’ve always dreamed of but when you go near it it spits in your eye. Thanks in advance for any advice, I really need it :pilotfly:
  10. Oh I forgot to say, you’ve given me hope. If you’d expect better from my system then chances are the problem is on my end and therefore fixable, hope springs eternal and all that :)
  11. Thanks dburne, yeah I’m stumped. Do you know if the skatezilla tool auto loads presets that can’t be altered? I flew over Dubai in the hornet with pd 1.2 and 1.5 and saw zero difference, very strange. Also I see the same levels of performance in a 2v2 dogfight as I do in a 12v12 (spitfire v 109/190). It’s all very confusing. I will try setting pd in dcs and see if it helps, thanks again
  12. And so I return, cap in hand and head bowed seeking further advice. I have switched over to the stable branch after downloading skatezilla’s updater utility and this is on a reinstalling of win 10 and fresh dcs install. But my performance woes remain and last night I had pretty much given up all hope. But I have noticed a couple of odd things today that may offer a clue to those more knowledgeable than myself, at least I hope so, of what is going on. My computer’s guts are: CPU 8700k @4.8ghz GPU 1080ti RAM 32gb ddr4 3000mhz Dcs installed on a Samsung SSD Graphics settings NVCP Prefer max performance Vr prerendered frames 2 Cockpit textures High View distance High Everything else off Pd 1.2 And I’m testing on the Spitfire Instant action Dogfight on the Normandy map. The first interesting thing that seems to be happening is that setting PD with the oculus debug tool seems to be having no effect. Today I went from a pd of 1.1 up to 2 and I saw no or very little change in visuals or performance. Lots of ASW ghosting, and general bad performance. Also if I try to disable ASW via the debug tool it too has no effect though I can adjust it with cntrl and numpad. Im starting to suspect that the debug tool is not working at all, has anyone else had issues with it? Also at a pd of 1.2 and all gfx pretty much off am I wrong to expect minimal use of asw and not see double every time a fw190 flys past? Hell even at 1.1 it was still happening. The second thing I noticed was gpu usage in vr compared to 2D. I tried the Hornet Free Flight instant action on the PG map. In 2D with all the graphical bells and whistles on my GPU was at 99% usage. The same mission in vr with the settings I’ve mentioned above saw only 70% max but averaging 60%. Ive read many posts about GPUs being underused by dcs due to cpus bottlenecking them (have i got that right?) but I assumed that would be the same in 2D as VR where as I’m only seeing it in vr. And just for the record my GPU never goes over 70% in vr no matter what mission. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some insight as to what is going on here, I’d love to fly my spitfire around and do some dogfighting but all the ghosting and juddering makes it a rather uncomfortable and frustrating experience, so any (more) help will be gratefully received
  13. Thanks, had a look and mine used to be similar but now I’ve had to drop it all down. I’ve just found that other thread about VR performance, I should have just posted there sorry. PCs are strange beasts, they can look very similar on paper but 2 people with what would appear to be the same system can have 2 very different results. Thanks for the help :)
  14. Deleted those files and it may have made a small difference but performance in any mission with more then a handful of units is pretty dire. Thanks for the suggestion though Sniper175. Interestingly I have the same rig as you except my 8700k is 4.8ghz. 2.5.5 I had pd 1.4, 2x msa, Distance High, shadows low, high textures and other bits and bobs on and I was really happy with how it was performing. Now to get similar performance it’s everything set to off, medium view distance and a pd of 1.2. And even still those 2 campaigns I’ve mentioned are pretty much unplayable. Anyway I’m not here for a moan up however tempting it might be, I’m going to try rolling back tonight to see if that helps, just need to find a list of the different versions....
  15. Thanks Sniper175, I do the 1st 2 after each update (though now you mention it I may not have since the last update.) but that third one is new to me, I shall do it tonight. If that doesn’t help I’ll try rolling back, getting stable is a last resort due to time and disk space. Fingers crossed :)
  16. Thanks guys glad to hear you’re not seeing any performance decrease. I’m pretty sure I am though. Was happily plugging away at the SAM sites in Operation Clearfield (excellent mission btw) before I had my little DCS sabbatical, but now it chugs quite a bit and I’m getting the old ASW wobbles all over the place. I even did a fresh install of windows but it didn’t help. Do you see any difference in FPS between stable and ob? I’ve only ever used ob myself. I’ve also only ever used DCS in VR but I’m starting to wonder if I should get trackir and spend more time flying and less time in the settings menu. May I also ask if any of you have played the 2 Spit campaigns in vr and have any tips to increase performance in those missions? I’ve yet to try them but if even my homemade practice range mission is suffering now (used to be fine) I’m expecting a slide show. That being said they looked too good not to try. Thanks again
  17. Just wondering what you guys and gals recommend for getting the best experience in VR at the moment? I’ve just purchased the Epsom and Big Show campaigns as I reckon now is as good a time as any to learn the beautiful Spitfire (me and my family are in week 3 of self isolation, oh boy is it challenging) but I’m a bit concerned over how well it’s going to run at he mo. So my question is would it be best to: A) Change to Stable (if so my next question would be how? :smilewink: ) B) Roll back to the last version of 2.5.5 C) Hold tight and wait for an update that actually fixes it I love DCS and ED do a stand up job most of the time but they keep saying they are going to improve performance but then opposite happens, kinda sucks. Have they dug themselves a bit of a hole of which it’s not easy to get out? Anyway that’s enough complaining, at least I can still breath! Anyhoo thanks in advance and stay safe :pilotfly:
  18. Just thought I’d mention, if you order the reverb from HP you get 30 days to send it back and get a refund. So it may be worth your while to give it a go and see what you think, and if it’s not to your liking you can get the rift s and have £200 left over to spend on beer or something else (I’d go with the beer my self)
  19. i have a 1080ti too and have had a rift s (still got it) and a reverb (sent it back.) I used the same dcs settings with both head sets (except pd, 1.4 on rift s and 1 on reverb) and the performance was better with the S. I flew over Dubai in the f18 in both and the Reverb flight was a ghosting mess when I looked left and right where as the S was pretty much smooth but still 40fps. My experience is you can get the reverb to run as well as the rift s but after you have it won’t look much better than the rift s but will cost you £200 more. The lack of screen door effect is very nice but I didn’t enjoy steams motion reprojection very much and it seemed to come on a lot. In the end I decided that in order to get it to run as smoothly as the S it was no longer a £600 improvement. But of course that won’t be a decision you have to make, all I’m saying is in my experience the 1080ti is only just enough for the reverb but does more than enough for the rift S. And the rift S, though not perfect, will keep me happy till we get some proper 2nd gen hmds. This is all just my opinion and experience. we all see things differently after all :)
  20. Same thing is happening to me, only dropping JDAMs from the left wing, and though I need to test it again I may have found a work around. When selecting the quantity to drop I selected the stations in the order they should drop in, ie 2,8,3,7. This seemed to do the trick and they all dropped. Only had time to test his once so may have been a fluke, and this was with a single bomb per pylon.
  21. Good news! I’m sure whatever you have up your sleeve will be great. I don’t want to brown nose, but dude your “mission” has breathed new life into dcs for me, so I will say again.. Thank you!
  22. Interesting, I got told no chance. But if you have the right info then I guess they don’t have a leg to stand on. I stand corrected. :) Just out of interest did you talk to them online or over the phone? I did phone but did think to myself that via chat I could send links such as the one you posted. Teach me to be overly reliant on old tech. @sze5003 I’m glad you are happy with your reverb, the lack of sde is amazing and it really is a nice bit of kit. I think for me it really came down to: is this £600 better than my rift s? And it wasn’t (IMO) once I had dialled the various settings to get what I consider “good performance.” Had I bought a reverb after the cv1 instead of the rift s it would be a different story, the clarity really is very very nice. Also thanks for all help and advice :) Edit, I really hope the 3080ti costs less than the 2080ti. Whoever decided crypto currency mining is down to gfx cards needs a slap. Would be much better for very one if it was sound cards, who needs them? ;)
  23. Just a heads up, not in the uk. I asked about this last time I spoke to the HP people and they said that was never the case here. It’s with a heavy heart but I will be sending my reverb back for the final time, I just can’t get decent performance with it on my 1080ti. (It’s a bit more complicated than that, but coming from a rift s I can’t justify the £600 for the gains with comparable performance.) If you’ve got a 2080ti I think it would be spot on, but there’s no way im spending £1300 on gfx card
  24. I found Lex’s video on carrier landings very useful too, and he seems like a jolly nice chap to boot.
