Thanks for the info, I came from the Rift S so it’s quite noticeable for me, but life is a series of compromises. Strangely more so in my right eye than the left, going to go get my eyes tested soon and find out my actual ipd. thanks again

What’s the sweet spot like compared to the g2? I’m struggling a bit with that.

[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Digitalvole replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
On further investigation it may be a bug? I’ve tried various campaigns and on each one I get a Culling Exclusion Zone appearing somewhere (either on one of there airbases or one of mine) well behind the front line. Doesn’t seem to have anything to do with what’s spawned at the airbase. In my latest campaign attempt on PG I got one around one of my empty airbases. is this supposed to happen, seems a bit odd, and certainly can make culling almost pointless in some scenarios. -
I worked out that I could have learnt to fly for the amount I’ve spent on hardware for DCS sine 2016, but it wouldn’t have been a fighter jet so I made the right choice. Have you tried the shader mod? It deffo makes things a bit crisper outside the cockpit. It’s very easy to install with a mod manager but there is a bit of a performance hit though I find the trade off worth it. Worth a try if you haven’t already.

[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Digitalvole replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
I don’t know if the people who make this mod keep an eye on this thread, but in the hope that they do; First off, thank you very much for all your hard work. Liberation is brilliant. is there anything that can be done about Culling Exclusion Zones around enemy airbases? Such as maybe independent zone sizing? I ask because at the moment it seems to be quite drastically reducing the effectiveness of culling when the enemy has aircraft at multiple airfields. For example, there awacs will be right at the other end of the map, but still have a whole lot of units spawn around it. Liberation seems to be a lot more resource hungry these days, so I need all the culling help I can get. thanks -
But by the sounds of it soon it will have to be, or every headset will need to use steam vr. Was just wondering if this will be a good thing or not? Not to worry, I’ll see if I can find those other threads.

I saw a video on youtube the other day saying Facebook are going to be moving to Open Xr for their VR devices, and want Open Xr to become the one api to rule them all as it were. If true does this mean we should be seeing support for it in DCS sooner or latter? Also would that be a good thing? What are the benefits of open xr over say steam vr? I have it installed for msfs as I have a G2 but know next to nothing about it. Just some Saturday morning wonderings

correct as-is Excellent Viper patch ED! Can we talk about LAU-88 now?
Digitalvole replied to Silvern's topic in Wish List
When I last played a Liberation campaign my favourite thing was taking out SA 10 tracking radars with either mavs or jdams in the Hornet. Flying super low and terrain masking when possible, then popping up. Bloody fantastic! The AI wingman stayed back at base for those sorties. It’s a shame things get so heated so quickly. If you bumped into a stranger in a pub or at a party and you ended up having this conversation it’d probably be one of the highlights of your evening. -

Probably worth remembering that most of us play SP. If our AI Wingmen were capable of, well anything other than running out of fuel and ejecting mid mission, then the lack of ordinance on our own wing stations would be less of an issue. Im not saying that therefore we should get more HARMS/MAVs etc, but might explain why some people are more miffed than others about it. Fix the AI and possibly problem solved, easy-peasy! (if only it was.) I for one would much rather have a competent wing man than two more missiles. After all as Dan Hampton says, HARMS are a waste of a wing station -

Thanks for answering my questions Northstar98, much appreciated. Kids are back from school now so my brain must now be used for the pressing issues of the day. Which seems to be how long can we keep a balloon from touching the ground! thanks for the convo -

Digitalvole replied to Silvern's topic in Wish List
Makes good sense, though regarding integration I’m still wondering how much work it is to, for example allow our f16 fire 4 harms? And if in an emergency this would be done as needs must. I mean most of the scenarios\campaigns we play would be considered a pretty dire situation if they were happening for real. But then this opens a whole can of worms doesn’t it? If WW3 kicked off, apart from the fact the northern hemisphere would be a burning wasteland in very short order, all sorts of things might be happening that we thought weren’t possible. And trying to include all that is rightly not in the remit for the DCS F16. I think if I were asked to chose the right approach for us simmers, I would go with the checkbox idea but still needing to meet the criteria you listed. Simply because that way everyone can fly the missions how they want, where as the other way is only pleasing for whatever percentage of people are not happy with it now. Seems fair, but life is never that simple eh? Id still like to know if in the virtual world of DCS something was to happen like in the example I gave with the Tornados in Desert Storm, whether that would constitute a different version of aircraft. -

It’s an interesting topic. I am currently reading Tornado by John Nichols (jolly good book, and I got a signed copy ) and it’s really interesting how that aircrafts role and capabilities changed in a very short period of time. From strictly low level JP233 usage to mid level gbu drops in a matter of a couple of weeks, for which the aircraft wasn’t even capable of doing at the outbreak of hostilities, because of the high losses of aircraft and air crew in the low level role. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that. How does that fit into this picture? By which I mean, would the Tornado that started the war be seen as a different version to the one that it was by the end of the war? In DCS terms would we be stuck with JP233s for example? And of course things for the USAF are different from that of the RAF (and probably every other AF in the world) as for those guys if one type of aircraft doesn’t fit the bill there are probably some others they have that do so modifications are less likely to be necessary. That being said if they did feel the need, how much work\money be involved to make it happen? Is it a major overhaul or can the ground crew do it in a hanger with some screwdrivers and a hammer? Why I personally think this is an important question is because if the USAF were fighting a near-peer adversary in 2007, hordes of T90s rushing across Georgia for example, the approach would be very different to that we saw in OIF and OEF I would assume. And maybe, if it could be done with minimal fuss, we would have seen very different load outs on aircraft that were still called F16c blk 50. What do you think? And just to be clear, these are just my musings. I don’t for one second think it should necessarily be one way or the other, but I do think it would be silly to look at what was carried in an asymmetrical war and apply it to a near peer war. Wouldn’t that be like trying to dogfight a fw 190 in a mk1 spitfire? Then again, as I said above, the USAF has many different tools in its tool box so maybe they wouldn’t. One could argue doing what we do in missions with load outs intended for counter insurgency operations in unrealistic I suppose. I Know very little about what constitutes different blocks and versions, so I hope none of what I said sounds like I’m saying it should be one way or the other, just curious. I don’t get to have these kind of conversations with my wife and kids, or anyone I know for that matter. -

Digitalvole replied to Silvern's topic in Wish List
I know nothing about this stuff, so please don’t shout at me Did they not use them because they couldn’t or because they didn’t need to? I’m curious because what we use the F16 for in DCS seems a long way from what they were being used for IRL in 2007. I play Liberation and that’s more like WW3 than a counter insurgency operation. Again, genuine question as I have no idea -
Woo hoo! please let me buy you two pints of imaginary beer

Some love for the f16s mfds is the thing I long for most in DCS right now. Reverb G2 at 100% ss and they just give me eye strain trying to decipher what is on them. I find it a real shame, I don’t mind missing features/weapons through early access as 1) I know what I signed up for, and 2) there is plenty to learn already. It’s been happy times all the time with the f18 for me personally. But because I can barley make out what’s on the mfds in the viper and in the process make my eyes want to fall out I can’t really do much but practice landings and aar. I have tried various mods but none seem to help. So I’m back in the Hornet. I live in hope that it will get some attention in the not too distant future, in fact I check the viper mini updates daily now in the hope that it’ll soon be remedied. we love you ED, please hear our cry I’m Editing this to add what I struggle with the most to make it a bit clearer (cough;) for the devs. FCR particularly contact altitude. HSD as above but also contacts in general. TGP

Not quite the same issue but similar enough not to start a new thread: SA6 keeps shooting at me even though I’m way outside the threat circle on the SA page. Normal? -
[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Digitalvole replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
Last time I played the utterly fantastic Liberation was in Dec 2020. I tried 4.00 last night and I couldn’t get the Culling option to work. I set it to 100, 150, and 200 miles but each time the whole map was populated. It used to work like a charm, has something changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated as at the moment it’s unplayable and makes my CPU cry hot fiery tears. it was one of the Syrian Campaigns if that makes any difference. -
thanks, got it working
-
Does the link in The OP have everything I need to try this out? And does the readme file have all the info required to get it working? thanks in advance, keeping it brief, kids bedtime to do now....
-
Haha it’s amazing isn’t it! Since I got the cv1 it’s been putting a big smile on my face and the G2 finally feels like the compromises are (mostly) over. We live in exciting times (as long as you don’t watch the news ;))
-
thank you, but as much as I love the F16, having spent a few days playing around in it I’ve decided it’s not quite ready enough yet for what I want to do. All the issues I’m having are well known and I’m sure will get addressed eventually. So in the mean time I’m back in the f18, and despite what I said in my original post I’m loving that too. Aren’t we lucky to have such an amazing piece of software!

Apologies in advance if it’s already been mentioned. I have been practicing aar recently and as well as has been said already, just practice flying in close formation, I have found if I try and keep the first nut(?)/ bump on the top right of the canopy rail lined up with the thingy that the pipe comes out of (check me out with all the technical terms ) I can get the thing in the thing nine times out of ten. Staying connected is a whole new can of worms, I will continue to practice and swear profusely as I do it. good luck and keep plugging away at it, you’ll get there. edit: forgot to mention I play in VR 2nd edit: this works with the S3 (I need to learn to read) with the kc130 I line it up with the top right corner of the hud

Oh fantastic! I’ll try that tonight, thank you VampireNZ

ah thanks, is there much of a performance hit? I’m right on the edge as it is
