  1. Would this mod make the mfds in the viper a bit easier to read? I’m having a bit of trouble with them.
  2. I’m having a bit of difficulty with the mfds in the viper in vr. I have the G2 at 100% ss and for the most part they are fine if a bit small, coming from the hornet. But I can not make out the altitude on datalink contacts, the numbers are just too small, and if I zoom in I still can’t make them out as I go cross eyed. Are there any mods that make these numbers a bit bigger or clearer? I’ve tried a couple but they just seem to change the colour of things. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as I love the Viper (fav plane since a kid) but currently I’m a bit snookered and will be heading back to the Bug with a sad face.
  3. Sorry I meant the link to google drive in mustang’s thread. Says the file isn’t there anymore. thanks for the help I’ll give that a go. The mfd txt is kinda hard to describe but it’s like black vertical lines down through the text, oh dear I’m not doing a very good job of describing it. Anyway not to worry it’s not a big deal, just thought I’d ask. thanks again
  4. This has been a huge help in setting up my G2, so thank you very much Speed of Heat! I’ve followed all the steps and have now got playable FPS/frametimes (is that the right word?) I just have a couple of questions regarding 2 of the mods if you don’t mind... 1) The flat shadow removal mod: The link to that one doesn’t seem to work anymore (the one I the mod thread) but luckily I downloaded last year on a different computer. I’ve tried to install it via Ovgme but it’s saying it’s going to overwrite something in a folder from the VR shader mod (clear water one) is this normal? it didn’t say this when I was using both mods on my old computer and everything ran fine together. (I didn’t install it just in case it screwed up the shader mod.) 2) The VR shader mod: The only downside for me with this fantastic mod is how it makes the text on the mfds look. I was loving the crispness of the text with the G2, so was wondering if there’s something within the mod I could enable/disable that would bring back the crisp text? I only ask because I noticed in the read me file a list of things that were enabled and wondered if one of those was responsible? Thanks again for such a great guide, my G2 has been in its box under my desk for 6 months but now I finally have a 3090 (it came with an Alienware R10 stuck to it though) I’m loving it. But I wouldn’t have without this guide, I’d still be bashing my head against the wall.
  5. So checked this evening and I had it set to auto (hadn’t changed it) and 100% ss was 2724x2660 so I clicked on custom and 100% ss was 3168x3092. So indeed auto must be based on your pc performance and custom is the actual native resolution (@100% ss) ? sorry, I’m new to steam vr
  6. Oh ok, so lower for lower spec hardware etc? That’s interesting but still seems a bit strange, you’d think it was what it was and that’s it. Well all I can say is at my 100% it looked fantastic, and all my worries about sweet spot, comfort, improvement over the rift s vanished. Just hope I can get a new GPU sorted before the next global catastrophe rolls along
  7. Indeed it is, it’s a very personal thing which I suspect is why it can all get confusing for folks when trying to match other people’s experience/settings. For me the goal is a steady 45 in Liberation which I’ve pretty much got going on with my Rift S at the mo. I’d love the channel map (home turf for me) but I’ve not read good things about how it performs. Despite the G2 going back in the box tonight I’m really excited, it feels like VR in DCS is getting to the point I dreamed of when I first popped the CV1 on my noggin.
  8. Excellent, thank you. I’ll get those numbers tonight then I’ll pop it back in it’s box to hibernate till next year
  9. I’ll post the exact numbers this evening as long as the gods of parenthood are smiling upon me. as for ss and settings etc, I know it’s a balancing act but as an example what is your SS set at? I suppose what I’m getting at is, is 100% feasible with these new GPUs?
  10. My G2 arrived last weekend and I had a chance to set it up Yesterday. I'm using a 1080ti and am having some strange issues that at first glance would appear to be performance related but I’m not so sure. Basically it’s really laggy, for want of a better word, when I move my head. But this started all of a sudden in the menus after I clicked “generate” in the quick mission menu. Never had performance issues at the main menu so think something else is up, I’ll get to the bottom of it eventually. The reason for my post is, what SS are you lucky folks with fancy new GPUs running? I tried it at 100% to start off with, and oh my goodness it’s amazing! Can’t believe how good it looks, I was worried about the sweet spot but it’s not an issue at all. Of course I can’t run it at 100% with my 1080ti and at 50% it’s doesn’t look much better than my Rift S but I’m happy to stick it back in the box and wait till I can get a new GPU next year if it will let me run it at 100%. on a side note 100% ss shows a resolution of 28xx by 28xx (or something similar) not 3xxx by 3xxx, which seems odd because I would have thought every G2 would have the same resolution at 100% ss? But I come from the rift s so this is all a bit new to me.
  11. Thank you Miguel21! Couldn’t find a link to that on page one, am I just useless and blind? I did think no carrier was a long shot :) Anyway, thanks again
  12. I’m sure the answers I’m after are in here somewhere but as there’s so many pages I’d really appreciate it if anyone could take the time time to answer the following: Which F 18 Campaign should I download if I don’t have the Supercarrier? (Modern if pos, so no weapons limitations.) Is their one for the f18 with no carrier at all? I’m not very good at carrier landings ;) Is there one for the A10C II? And finally, what’s performance like in VR? It’d be great if you guys could help me out, thanks in advance
  13. Alas. Still I’m excited to try this when 2.5.6 is fixed, thanks for creating it. Now back to what DCS has taught me to do so well through repetition: Wait :)
  14. This looks great especially the sharpening, but am I right in thinking it only works on OB?
  15. Yup me too been there for some time
  16. But if you can’t be bothered with all that (life is short after all) try these out, there bloody good: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=247216 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=248098 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=249290 All great and not too taxing on the old hardware :)
  17. I found exactly the same thing, so thank the maker for the mission editor! The problem with self made missions is that you know where everything is right? Aha not if you can use triggers with late activation and flags to randomise what is spawned! I’m currently working on a mission for the spitfire on the Normandy map where via the radio I can chose to either escort b17s (choose between one of three flights attacking three different targets) Or attack one of five airbases (I’ve laid out five different airbases and it will randomly pick one and activate the units) or I can just fly out over the Channel and it will spawn a flight of 109s picked at random from 16 different groups all flying at different altitudes and in different directions. Blah blah blah etc. Anyway point is it’s really not to tricky to achieve and you only have the units you are currently fighting on the map at any one time so hopefully performance should not suffer too much and because of the random selection of the group that spawns you don’t automatically know what your in for when you play the mission. A tutorial by Shiftie Mover on using the F10 radio menu to spawn units And this one is about how to randomly spawn units with f10 radio too by sithis This in another Shiftie Mover one on setting up an air to air mission. Theses are the vids I watched to get me started and if things crop up google or YouTube usually has the answers. You can do all this with units being in a trigger zone rather than the f10 radio menu if you prefer. Anyway hope this helps and thank you Shiftie mover and sithis for making the videos
  18. As cruel as it sounds Is that possible? Just wondering as I’ve noticed my performance drops when there are lots of little men floating down to earth. Thanks
  19. Just wanted to say a big thank you to you Reflected. I’ve only played mission one twice and I won’t tell you how I got on as I’ll be asked to leave for being laughably terrible in a spitfire. But what I have been doing is reading the book. Wow it’s a fantastic read thanks man I’m loving it. One day I may get past mission one and when I do I’ll be sure to let you know but in the mean time I just wanted to thank you for making me aware of this brilliant book. :book:

  20. Moved oops, sorry for putting it in the wrong place, I guess in my head it was as much a heartfelt thank you to ED as it was performance issues. But in hindsight I see why it was moved. Fri13 you’re right, and I’m currently eyeing up 1440p monitors. I just don’t know if I’ll like the strange head movement of track ir. Also it will burn through the money I had put aside for a 30 series nvidia gfx card. But it may be the way to go after all. My concerns were more based around if they keep adding all this cool stuff it’s going to require me to spend money I don’t have. As an example the new damage modelling looks absolutely fantastic, but I can’t see how it can be implemented without another hit on performance. And I can’t take another hit. Also Enduro14 I think flying the WW2 planes and that type of dogfighting makes maintaining 80fps far more important than in a jet as seeing double vision when a bandit flies past really breaks the immersion and makes identifying said bandit much harder. The f18 on the PG map is a lot more forgiving. But I’m glad all is well at your end, happy flying :) Anyway this wasn’t meant to come across as me moaning on about how unfair it is that I can’t play the game as I would like to and more of an outpouring of emotion if you will (8 weeks in lockdown with young children will do that to man ;) ) and some concerns about where we will be in say a years time. Apologies if it sounded like I was moaning and being self important, I really didn’t want that.
  21. Thanks for he suggestion MAXsenna, I haven’t but also I haven’t updated to the latest driver as I heard it was a bit iffy. I don’t think there is much else I can do at this point. But the point of that massive wall of text was mainly to let ED know how much I love there work and how it would be such a shame (for me at least) if I couldn’t enjoy it. I feel like they are taking a bit of a clobbering at the moment and I’m hoping beyond hope that things will one day be better for all of us
  22. Lockdowns can have unexpected results ;) Maybe this should have been an email, but it’s too late now
  23. Dear Eagle Dynamics team I’d like to begin by saying what an incredible flight simulator you have created, and I hope you all feel rightfully proud of yourselves for having produced such a detailed and beautiful piece of software covering both modern and WW2 aviation as well as a mission editor that allows the community to create some wonderful scenarios and campaigns. So a big thank you Eagle Dynamics for all of the above and the many hundreds of hours of hard work that have gone into giving us DCS World. You should all be very proud of your achievements and it does feel like you have a grand vision of what this sim will be one day. I myself loved flight sims when I was younger and dreamed of becoming a pilot in the RAF. Growing up in the 90’s I was playing the Janes series of flight sims, Falcon 3.0 (and latter 4.0) Battle of Britain, ms combat simulator 2, even the F16 sim on the ZX spectrum (was it called f16 combat pilot?) but as I got older I stopped playing flight sims. Then along comes the Oculus Rift and I still remember the day I had an epiphany: “Holy s**t, that would be amazing in a flight sim!” So the Rift was purchased on day one along with DCS A10C and so began my return to playing flight sims and since that day I rarely play anything else (to be honest I rarely play anything at all these days having to small children) and since that day I have invested a fair chunk of money in and specifically for DCS (modules, maps, and PC hardware TMWH HOTAS and 2 VR headsets.) And so we come to the point of this rather long winded post, we all know that the ob 2.6.5 has run into a few performance issues and so I went over to stable for the first time. And though frame rates are better in 2.5, in-order to play any mission with more than a handful of units and a few clouds I’m having to lower my graphics settings to the point the game just doesn’t look nice enough to enjoy. (Just for reference I’m flying the Spitfire on the Normandy map.) For me part of the allure of flight in general is the beautiful vistas, the other part is blowing stuff up hence not being very interested in the other non combat flight sims available. What has brought me to put fingers to keyboard and write to you is a recent comment by a member of your team, and please forgive me paraphrasing here, but it was along the lines of “as we add more graphical improvements you can expect the game to become more demanding on your system.” Now this of course seems logical enough, it’s just that my system (8700k @ 4.8ghz 1080ti 32gb ddr4 RAM and DCS on its own ssd with a Rift S) is only just about able to cope with DCS as it is in stable 2.5, any increase in system demands and its game over for me. I’ve posted my graphics settings in another thread on the Spitfire sub forum but let’s just say I’ve been tempering my expectations and am certainly not trying to run a pd of 2 with all the graphics turned up (1.3 with pretty much everything low or off and medium view distance in-fact.) I’m beginning to feel like I’m getting priced out of this fantastic, dream come true, flight simulator. I know that being a VR user I’m in a niche within a niche and therefore must adjust my expectations but it still makes me sad. I’m very excited for the release of the channel map (having lived on the south coast of England all my life it’s so great to be flying over places I know) and the upcoming mosquito and p47 (really the mosquito though being a Brit, and the p47 looks like a bit of a lump, though I’d be happy to be proved wrong) and up until now I would have been purchasing them all on day one of release but not now I’m sad to say. The reason being I’m not sure I’ll I would be able to use them in a years time without spending another £1500 upgrading my computer which I simply can’t afford to do. I’m struggling on the Normandy map with the Spit. Of course we always have choices in what we do with our lives and in this instance mine seem to be either leave DCS and try the other ww2 sim which we cannot name or give up on flight sims altogether. I suppose Track ir is an option too but that would require a new monitor and I’m not sure how much I’d like it after VR. I don’t really want to do any of these things unless I’m left with no other option, but if DCS continues to require more and more PC horse power it looks like the dream may be over for me. Finally I just want to add that I’m in no way trying to imply that if you don’t fix this you won’t see anymore of my money or that I’ll go and play a competitors game instead, or for that matter that you owe me anything at all really. It’s clear you have a grand vision for what DCS World can become and your work thus far has been mind blowing and enabled thousands of people to experience something we could have only dreamed of as children. It’s just that to know that something as great as this exists but you are unable to enjoy as the cost of entry is too high (and I mean HIGH) makes me really quite sad. Kind regards and keep up the good work Simon Ps I hope you are all staying safe and well in these testing times.
  24. Couldn’t agree more, well said :)
  25. Ah it would seem 5 weeks of isolation with my family has turned my brain to mush, thank you rmk80. Hopefully this has worked. My PD is set to 1.3 in dcs and the only thing I’ve changed in NCP is prefer maximum performance. Hope it helps :) Edit: this is what I’m using for Normandy, I can turn a few things up in PG such as shadows and view distance as long as I’m not flying over a big city. But that’s ok as I don’t think there were many ww2 dogfights over 21st century Dubai :D
