One additional item...at night you are basically flying instruments. If you set up the TACAN at 35X, and set your inbound course of 040 deg on your HSI, you should see a small arrow on your HUD. Fly it for guidance to the carrier. It will NOT give you vertical guidance, but WILL help you line up on the center line of the box. Arrow off to the right side, steer right. Off to left, steer left. Keep the arrow centered and you'll fly straight down the box.

Battery on, then try radios.

I just created my own in mission editor, then tried to edit the weather. Save button is "still" greyed out. This has been a pain for quite a while now. What is the secret to editing weather in DCS mission editor?

For VR: aircraft 25% larger when 2-5 miles away
captflyby replied to D4n's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Our squadron uses modified labels when in combat. Black dots appear for the VR users when aircraft are 10nm or so away. Distance realistically should be 5 nm, the dots a bit larger, and color coded red or blue so you can avoid shooting your own team mate down. The other night I took them all out - turns out one of those anonymous black dots was my team mate, but my RWR said 21. But, in RL flying they are specs on the horizon. No way to tell what it is or who it is without IFF properly implemented. -
Please know in advance - all instances running of DCS should be / are paid for as well as the maps... I have a very powerful server and bandwidth built to serve our squadron's needs. We looked into running 3 "legal" instances of DCS, each in a separate instance of a virtual environment, much like I do for web sites. (Many sites, each running on one hardware box, each in their own separate virual environment.) In DCS 1.5.8 that COULD be done. DCS then was direct x 9 compliant. The virtual systems are direct x 9 compliant. Now that DCS 2.5.1 is direct x 11 compliant ONLY, that eliminates using any virtual environments. Shame, our squadron could have PAID FOR, and run Caucuses, Nevada and Persian Gulf all on the one hardware box. Maybe someday the virtual environment guys will get with the direct x 11 program, or DCS will become direct X backwards compatible. Either way, would make it a real benefit for those wanting to get the most of the DCS environment without the added cost of hardware, electricity and HEAT generated by each system. My 2 cents.

I use VR and headset. I have audio of engines and environment from dolby 7.1 external surround sound. In headset I have background chatter and any music I'd like. What I don't have is ATC in the headset. Can you allow us to redirect the ATC audio output to headset plugged into the game computer? Thank you.

I will add one thing to that list....I am not sure if it is my flying technique, real aircraft behavior, or a bug, but when flying, even in autopilot, straight & level, below 300 kts, the plane can take a 45 deg or more sudden dive off to the left or right causing usually a spin that is often unrecoverable. As I do not fly this in RL I do not know if this behavior is "normal" for the real aircraft. Just thought I'd mention it. I do not believe this to be an out of balance condition, as I have observed this behavior even when no stores are on the aircraft.

How to calculate your current flight time and fuel flow oscillations
captflyby replied to Vitormouraa's topic in AV-8B N/A
Thank you. Very useful. -
I have one suggestion to RAZBAM for the F15 model. The F-5E, the Harrier and the M-2000C are beautiful - modeled just like the old gen 2 and 3 aircraft. I have all and enjoy flying them - but do not fly the F-5E or the M-2000C on squadron missions. I do fly the Harrier, as it is the closest jet available to train for the upcoming F-18C. The F-15 is getting a GEN 4 (maybe GEN 5) upgrade from the US military - in RL. Groups of these planes are being retrofitted right now at McDonald Douglas. PLEASE - whatever the alphabet letter at the end of the "F-15" designation, don't build another fantastic model that is 4-5 DECADES OLD. Build the NEW GEN 5 F-15 that is being upgraded with the new avionics engines and warfare packages. I love these models, but don't fly them much due to limitations that they had in the early years. There are no points for trying to fly a jet without a moving map, autopilot or a decent thrust to weight ratio. Just because the had to deal with it in the past, does NOT mean you have to deal with it now that new technology has been developed - over the past 70 years. If you do produce the F-15...make it CURRENT and I guarantee you it will be the darling go to for DCS !

Any word on the course knob for Tacan navigation
captflyby replied to HawkeyeHHDF's topic in Resolved Bugs
Course knob is needed and would be greatly appreciated. -
Does the F-15C have any keyboard commands that can set the course selector knob?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAB_q8U-sSc (2017) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yuFQF75Kck (1983) Recently I was criticized for suggesting that maybe the F-5E needed some more modern upgrades to make it more survivable in combat. In no way did I mean to criticize Belsimtek or its wonderful model. Everyone wants realistic. Well here it is. Modernized, updated, color screens, better weapons systems. Can we PLEASE get an autopilot mod??? And before anyone criticizes again, at least 4 country's armed forces agree with me. Time to update the F-5E capabilities - or at least make it possible for someone to do so... Thanks.

Problem solved. Took Red's advice and changed my "textures" setting - which is the first setting in the "system" page of settings for DCS World. The "terrain textures" have NO effect, just the "textures". Set the "textures" to LOW and you will have NO ladder. Set "textures" to HIGH and ladder appears. Red - you are my hero!!! Thanks to all who helped. Hope this will assist if someone else should have the same problem in the future. Note: This only occurs in the Harrier. In the M-2000C HUD worked even when settings were on LOW.

I uninstalled all of DCS, rebooted, and performed new, clean install of just the Caucuses in 2.5.0 and the harrier. Same result. No ladder. Aircraft is effectively unusable until this is corrected.

Thank you. Will try and report back.

Yes. INS is set to NAV. DMT is on.

03-23-2018 I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this mystery. The whole squadron participated last night, problem yet unresolved. ________________ Win 10 64bit all updates i7 1 TB SSD 32G RAM Nvidia 1080Ti all drivers up to date DCS 2.5.0.15365 Harrier, F-5E, M-2000C Logs included for those who understand such things... ________________ Purchased the Harrier in Jan ? about. No problems. Was working fine under DCS 2.5.0 prior to the last 2 updates. (Not saying the updates caused the problem.) Stopped flying it a bit in order to transition to a second aircraft. During this time, DCS has had two updates. Last night tried to fly the Harrier. HUD displays upper direction tape. HUD displays airspeed and altitude. HUD displays all info on lower left and lower right of the HUD. In the center - there is no horizonal earth reference. Also, ladder is missing. You cannot tell when straight and level without reference to backup artificial horizon. _________________________ Checked forums yesterday. Found "missing ladder" post. Downloaded and installed correction HUD_Definitions.lua file. Did NOT work. __________________________ Checked recent DCS patches - others in my squadron, no problem. Checked switches in the cockpit - but after going out & back in, all should be reset - did not work. Set INS to NAV. Set DMT to ON. Checked M-2000C. HUD works fine. Checked Harrier in single and in multiplayer - still no ladder - in either. Checked Caucuses vs. Nevada maps. Did not work in either. Rebooted DCS. Did not work. Rebooted computer. Did not work. Did a clean on DCS. Then did a DCS repair - per DCS instructions. Did not work. Uninstalled the Harrier. Rebooted the entire computer, then reinstalled the Harrier. Did not work. ______________________________ We have reached the end of what we can think of to do. Before removing DCS completely, and having all that install to do again, I thought I'd ask for anyone that might have encountered similar situation, and how it was resolved. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

1. How bout a moving map module that can be inserted into any aircraft - similar to kneeboard. 2. Gulfstream with glass cockpit.

Always wanted to fly the F5. Still do. But will not once the F18 is available.
