Purchasing Russian Version then Western Version?
V1Rotate replied to SlyBelle's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Make Jarhead pay for my western version too :) -
I would bet that would be a different story on the Russian side of the forums!
-
I occasionally get a CTD when I'm well... RTDing anyway. In game no problems. Only occasionally on closing down the BS.exe I get an error box.
-
Tornado ditto, Eurofighter would be neat too, but oh yes how did I forget?? HARRIER GR7!!! Would be ideal, I could really see a Farp with this nestled in the trees somewhere! :)
-
Hmmm, can someone confirm how the rotor blades are de-iced? Does it use rubber "boots" or is it a heating element that you can leave switched on? If it's the latter, is there a time limitation per cycle or is it automatic?

I'd like some official input here if possible from the ED team about what makes BS tick. I understand PCs are a maze of hardware configurations, so I'm not necessarily after a dream wish list PC setup. However, I believe it would be helpful to everyone if we knew what seems to affect FPS in BS the most. So, is BS memory hungry, graphics card hungry or is CPU clock speed most important? Again I realise its dependant on the system, so if we had to take a base system as a starting point, what would you upgrade here: (I'll try and make it pretty average, about 1-2 yrs old - oh look its similar to my setup :D) I get reasonable frame rates with a similiar setup but do occasionally get a slowdown over towns or when there's a lot going on. Core Duo 6600 at stock speeds, 2gb ram, 8800GTS 512mb, 320gb hd, XP Pro 32bit. Would performance be better in Vista with the same memory size?

DCS: Black Shark User Screenshots Dedicated Thread
V1Rotate replied to Teknetinium's topic in Screenshots and Videos

Yes. And when I say all modes I mean all autopilot channels.
-
I was hoping to find a good community of DCS Black Shark players to play on multiplayer coop missions. However, I'm not sure who would be a good bet to join. Maybe we can use this thread to build a list of squadrons so people are more able to make such a choice. Thanks. :joystick:

This has been answered so many times now and its in the FAQs, but anyway... AP on, all modes engaged, height/altitude hold is considered optional. The trim when held down interupts the autopilot or autohover modes, when released the autopilot will hold the new heading/attitude.
-
Its a light under the helo which can be directed by the pilot to look at landing areas etc I'm guessing.

God, I'm so glad we don't have that restriction! As if being sat in the cruise isn't boring enough. I suppose thats one of the benefits of flying older technology, there's a much higher workload and more "hands-on" flying. Granted, I accept that in commercial aviation the use of the autopilot is thoroughly encouraged though and it is indeed a good idea. Thankfully, we are still allowed to disconnect everything and fly it manually if flight conditions permit it to be done safely. One of the most common failings early in a First Officer's career is that they have little experience of autopilot and flight director systems and when they are "maxed" out (keeping up with learning the aircraft and thinking "whats next? have I forgotten something?" the whole time) they tend to disconnect the very things that will actually help them. It's about understanding the capabilities of the systems and using them to your advantage, not fighting against them or discounting them altogether. And this is for two pilot aircraft! For single pilot operations, the use of the autoflight systems is a MUST.

How do you open the TRK files?
-
So whats "Best" detail? and which would result in more fps?
-
So if we change that to ="English" we get english cockpit labels? That would be great, would save a lot of time compared to waiting for the mouseover tooltip!
-
Start the game, alt-tab out, hit ctrl-alt-del to start windows task manager, R-click on DCS in applications and select "go to process", R-click again on DCS.exe to then select "set affinity", Select all your CPUs and click ok. Done!

I think ram is going to help you a lot. Its so cheap right now as well.
-
Also it should be noted that once trimmed for say nose-in forward flight and you are stable in that flightpath, you shouldn't need to retrim if you are just making small corrections to your flightpath trajectory: Eg low level avoiding trees/buildings/terrain etc. Instead use the collective and cyclic controls to maneuvre until you are clear of the obstruction, at which point your heli should return to the previous "hands-off" stable condition at more or less the same height and speed. Clearly if you've made big corrections you will need to trim again.

How similar is it to the x52 Pro?
-
He means the language in the missions I think. In which case it is kind of possible but its not ideal and is very time consuming. Load up the mission editor and then load the mission you want to translate. In the editor there is a mission briefing icon on the left hand side which will bring up the russian text. Cut and paste into an online translator and do the same again back into the mission briefing box. You can go further and translate the trigger point texts too, if you want. Have a look around you'll find it soon enough. Don't forget to save your mission and maybe backup the original before you do this. As I said, it is time consuming and the online translations leave a lot to be desired. It is a good way to see how missions are constructed though and maybe you will try and make your own missions :)

Can you change key assignments in game
V1Rotate replied to V1Rotate's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Sweet, I just figured that out actually. However, I'm having trouble with the axis. Specifically the rudder/yaw. I'm using the twist grip and not sure if I should remove all the axis from the in game x52 controller settings and then configure them in SST, or leave them as they are, but without assigning any keys/axis in SST for that channel?? -
Hey folks, not sure if these have been posted before, but I thought I'd share my Black Shark TrackIR profile with you. For the record, I'm using 4.1036 TrackIr, and the trackclip Pro. If you are just using the baseball cap clip reflector gadget, then you have to select Vector expansion for each of the X/Y/Z/etc channels http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~mackie/DCS_Black_Shark.xml Put it in C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, and set DCS Black Shark to use this new profile in TrackIR and you should be good to go. I'm quite new to Trackir as I only bought it when I saw Black Shark, so there's a chance that you may have better profiles than this. Anyway, it works well enough for me now, I may reduce the sensitivity further when I get over my x52 Pro programming headaches. If you have better profiles please take the time to upload them here. As I said, I'm no expert! :smartass:

But if you retrim with slight yaw/ bank, when you release the trim button the autopilot will hold the aircraft in an out of trim condition?? So the ap is just an attitude hold? I fly large fixed wing jets irl so just trying to get my head around how the helo ap/flight director/trimmer is supposed to function... I think I've got it, just trying to relate it to what I know already which is probably a bad thing - as they say, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!
