  1. If you've got AIM-7s selected, then pulling the trigger will auto-transition to STT as Santi said. If you have 120s, you can either TDC depress on the target to enter STT or press Sensor Select Right (AACQ) over them to go into STT.

Think it'll depend on if ED simulate it like a bomb (which don't get intercepted by SAMs) or like a missile (which do get intercepted). If it's treated like a missile, then it's going to be a fairly easy target for a SA-10 (or protective SA-15s) to engage as it'll be moving very slowly by the time it reaches the target.
  3. Can't give a source as it's against forum rules. It's also modelled this way in another game that models a Super Hornet with the same avionics as our Hornet - looks like power is cut off whenever you select anything else, which is why the full re-alignment is needed.
  4. It's not a bug - you're in LTWS, so the first lock is a 'soft' lock, the target's location is updated whenever the radar sweeps over the targets and sees where they are. Range information isn't currently displayed in LTWS, it appears when you fire because the radar auto-switches to STT when you pull the trigger with an AIM-7. There seem to be a couple of issues with LTWS - mainly that the target isn't shown at a fixed point in space, but moves around as you move your plane around as though it's fixed to a position on your HUD. But that isn't really what you're describing - what you're seeing is LTWS, and isn't a bug.
  5. Not necessary for TOO - never set them, and bombs all hit where I wanted.
  6. There's a very simple way of using JDAMs that I've not seen being covered yet - I've been using it to great effect bombing runways with the GBU-31V3s. First off, equip 4 GBU-31V3s and then make four waypoints for where you want your bombs to hit (you can just use the DDMMSS for waypoints, it's accurate enough to hit runways, make sure to set the elevation - feet seem to work fine). Then takeoff and fly towards your target, go to AG mode, select the JDAMs on the stores page, set EFUZ to INST, change PP mode to TOO. On your HSI, select waypoint 1 and then press WPDSG - you should now see a diamond for the target and a counter (when you're within 10 mins of the target). Wait for your JDAMs to align (2.5mins), and then make your attack run. I've mapped the AMPCD OSB buttons for incrementing the waypoint by one and WPDSG, so that I can ripple the bombs off. I basically fly at the target, at around 20s to target I do a 30deg climb (most of my attack runs on airports are done on the deck, due to SAMs) and wait until I see in range, then pickle, increment the WP (to WP2), WPDSG, pickle and repeat that until all four bombs have been dropped.
  7. They're broken in open beta - stable isn't affected.
  8. Think that's how it is in real life, I wouldn't expect it to change.
  9. HARMs haven't hit reliably in past real wars because in real life the operators switch the radar off and the missile goes dumb (only very new versions remember the location and still hit it). In DCS the AI keeps the radar on, so you can't compare real-world hit-rates with DCS. Right now there's a bug where the HARMs don't get anywhere close to the target, it needs fixing.
  10. If you use guns then the diamond isn't shown because it represents something else on the HUD when gun is selected (it's showing you where bullets will be at a certain distance). I think that's probably what you're describing.

  12. The shoot cue appears when you enter Rmax, which is the maximum range of the missile to still be able to have some ability to turn when it gets there - but it's by no means a guaranteed kill, in fact unless the target doesn't have an RWR and just flies straight and level, the missile is easily evaded. You should wait until the shoot cue flashes (which indicates Rne, range of no escape, which is meant to represent the range at which a missile can reach a target even if they turn around and run away) - but even then that's a bit optimistic and you should wait a little longer against targets running directly away from you or players that are likely to evade as soon as you shoot.
  13. The Rift / upcoming Rift S won't use SteamVR. Everything else (as far as I'm aware) does - from Vive/Vive Pro, to Windows MR headsets, to Pimax and the upcoming HP Reverb and Valve Index. You don't need to use DCS on Steam though just because you're using SteamVR - you can use the standalone install of DCS with SteamVR, it'll automatically start when you launch the game.
  14. Wait a couple of months and ask again - seems like it'll be one of the Rift S / HP Reverb / Valve Index, but those are releasing over the next couple of months. Wait to see how it shakes out before buying.
  15. It works, it just doesn't show the radar cursor because in guns mode the diamond symbology is used to show where your bullets will be at a certain distance. It is still scanning and will lock a target if it finds one.
  16. The SA-2 shot down F-4s in Vietnam - I'm flying in a straight line, sub-sonic at 10kft in an aircraft that's a similar size to an F-4. There's no reason it shouldn't hit - I don't have a jammer switched on and I don't defend/dispense chaff, so ECM shouldn't matter at all. Repeat the same test in an F-86/F-5 if you'd like, you'll see the same result.
  17. There seems to be an issue with the SA-2 missile guidance - it always misses and always seems to be aiming behind where the target is. It can't hit a target at 10kft flying straight at it - in fact I've never seen it being able to hit anything at all. It looks like the guidance is stuck on proportional navigation all the way to the target, rather than switching to flying at the target once it gets within a certain range like all other missiles do. Track attached of me flying straight at an SA-2 at 10kft on autopilot and two missiles miss me. I then put it in a gentle bank while it shoots two more missiles at me, but they miss too. Track attached sa2broken.trk
  18. It didn't work on the radar page when he made that video, but it worked for us on both screens as soon as we had that IFF functionality. You can use it on both.
  19. Did you install SteamVR and Mixed Reality plugin for SteamVR?
  20. Is that against AI or humans? The AI are omnipresent and always know when a missile has been launched at them.
  21. It doesn't matter how much you zoom in, we can only currently enter 6 digit lats and longs - so the margin of error is something like 100m squared (I'm sure someone will give the exact figure). There are two features of the Hornet that we don't have which will allow us to enter decimal seconds (with the PRECISE mode) or MGRS, which will allow us to enter coordinates down to the square metre or so. Right now, without either of those modes, you're basically not going to be able to target anything smaller than a runway/building/cargo plane.
  22. That's because eventually undesignate will switch between L&S & DT2, changing which is your primary target. You can either hit the reset button like Jak suggests, or it's normally quicker (and you at least don't have to take your hands off of the HOTAS), to just go into STT and then press undesignate.
  23. Well that's what he meant, whether he used the right term or not - it was pretty obvious from the context.
  24. If the A-4 is used in a multiplayer server, then anyone without the mod cannot join. That's the IC issue. The big public servers just aren't going to add it as long as that's true.
  25. Auto is the same thing as CCRP.
