I saw the same thing - out of interest do you use standalone or steam DCS? I use standalone but I've been wondering if perhaps it has an effect on steam DCS.
-
The Hornet doesn't have a targeting pod yet, it'll be possible with LGBs when it is. I'm not sure on the 65E - it depends what version they're modelling I think.
-
DUD means your bombs are duds, either because you haven't armed them, or you're at a height where if you dropped them they wouldn't arm.
-
Huey doesn't have proper multi-crew though - a player can't jump in the co-pilot seat - so stuff like the L-39/Gazelle would be better comparisons. Can players hot-switch between seats in the L-39/Gazelle in multiplayer? The other limitation may be controls - in things like the L-39 the control mappings are the same and in the Gazelle/Huey you can still fly from the co-pilot's seat, but in the Tomcat they're completely different. They've said there are separate entries in the control config for each seat, so you can use the same bindings to do two completely different things. That might have something to do with why you can't hot-swap.

Huey and landing! Where are those experts pilot with quick landing :)

I think it's just a case of horses for courses to be honest - I play DCS for the fun of flying and fighting, not to pretend to have a job as a military pilot, if I wanted that I'd have joined up :) I just have no interest in long formation flights and straight-in approaches but I totally understand that lots of people play the game for that experience and enjoy it. I've got at least 1,500 hours of slinging and erratic flying and I'm not bored yet, so I'm sure we can both continue to enjoy the game without changing each other's minds. I'm also not suggesting anyone takes my advice - in fact I started that post with a big disclaimer stating the opposite - I just responded to a call for a video of a quick landing and from the OP's reaction I provided what he wanted. -
Just to warn you then, it's an 8gb update!

Update to the latest Open Beta - this is a bug that's been fixed there. Either that or wait for the release version to be updated on Wednesday.

Quicker hook-ups - number of crates slung a minute is more important than finesse/doing it properly in the MP server I play on, so I've trimmed as much fat as I can to go as quickly as possible. I have great respect for the guys doing it properly and/or in real life, I'm mainly after the roller-coaster thrills in VR and I drive a computer in real life, so no danger of anyone getting hurt :) -
You haven't set the fuzes - on stores page select the bombs, press MFUZE, and choose a fuze type (e.g. NOSE).

I'm probably not the best person to learn off of to be honest - I've never tried to fly properly, I just flew it until I stopped crashing, and then tried more and more stupid stuff until I stopped crashing doing that too. Tips I'd have (which probably fly in the face of the proper way of doing things) - coming in low is easier than high, coming in sideways is easier than forwards, and use your tail rotor to help slow you down (in pretty much every landing I've got full tail rotor helping me slow). Learning collective control is the biggest hurdle to flying properly - as you'll see in the track I'm constantly moving it trying to 'catch' the thrust and neutralise the descent. As promised, I did try and do a little airshow today, which went swimmingly until I overcooked it and bashed the rotor. There are some nice landings in here anyway, and I'll upload the track as well so you can sit in the cockpit and watch the controls to see if that helps (if you see the pedals spaz out at random times that's not intentional, having a weird input issue...). Enjoy! First person: Third person: I do play in VR so apologies if those are jittery! hueylandings.trk -
It's a placeholder for the AGM-65F while they develop it, it'll be replaced with the F when it's ready.

Last I saw I think they said Jester might not be able to use the TGP at release - so it sounds like a human RIO will be able to laze for you (or you can jump in the back yourself and set it up) - but you probably won't be able to self-laze solo in MP.

It sounds like you've mapped the elevation to an axis, which doesn't work very well at all. It's designed to be used with a mini joystick type control (it works like the elevation axis - push hard in one direction and it'll move quick, push less and it'll go slower, let go and the elevation stops changing) - if you try and use it with a slider it works horribly as it just constantly increases until it hits the maximum elevation (which is why it'll say 99/99). Some people have made it work with massive curves and dead ones, but what we really need is ED to hear our pleas and give us the option of using an absolute axis (which would work perfect with a slider). For now, map it to buttons instead.

It's not just the Warthog, same on the TWCS mini stick and the x56 from the sounds of it. Wags has the TWCS so hopefully he's seen/experienced the problem and we'll get it fixed...

Haha thanks man - I was so happy when I nailed that but there's not many people who can appreciate a quick and tidy landing (it's not as sexy as explosions / BFM after all). It's nice to find an audience for this stuff! I do a load of slinging on DDCS so getting on the ground as quickly as possible and as close to the crate as possible is important to keep the output up, and you get lots of opportunity to practice. I reckon I can probably do a more dramatic version of this - I'll have a go tomorrow and see if I can get some nice landings recorded. -
Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
backspace340 replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Check your settings - turn shadows down to flat, and either have MSAA on 2x and PD on 1.3, or MSAA off and PD on 1.5. That's a playable level with no ghosting or stuttering on my 1080ti. If you have MSAA on 4x, that'll badly affect your frames. If you've got DCS on Steam make sure you're not doubling up on PD - there's supersampling settings in SteamVR that might take effect if you're running DCS on Steam (I don't think they do anything on standalone). -
It's not even implemented yet (not just WIP) - so it won't do anything you're expecting.

According to an ex Hornet driver (or so someone on a discord I'm on said), boresight is disabled when the HMD is on.

You can use the ground effect to help stop really quickly, this one's not too dramatic but it's probably the best example of where I've gone from going as quick as I can to stationary with as little fuss as possible: https://clips.twitch.tv/SwissFunWombatPMSTwin -
Yeah it's because outside the cockpit you're focusing in the distance, inside the cockpit you're focusing on the stuff 1ft in front of you. If you look inside the cockpit and try to focus in the distance, you don't see double.
-
Think that's just how eyes work to be honest - you don't see double if you look 'through' the cockpit. You're seeing double because you're focusing in front of the HMD focus. You'll probably just need to either live with it or switch to one eye - if they fixed it for looking inside the cockpit it wouldn't be right for looking outside. Maybe when they sort the cockpit blanking it won't be an issue.
-
They're not finished - very work in progress.
-
That too, but it sounded like we were gonna get ATFLIR first from what Wags has said previously. Beazle: you'll need to do it manually, for the Es you normally get told the coordinates of where is being lazed by the JTAC or if it's another human they can read off the coordinates from their Litening TPOD display. Just add it using the normal steps (check Wags' videos or chucks guide if you're not sure).

You need to assign TDC Priority to the DDI the Maverick is on - press the Sensor Select hat in the direction of the screen (I.E. SS Left if it's on the left screen) until a diamond appears in the top right hand corner of the screen. The ASQ-T50 pod is for simulated dogfight training and has no function in-game...
