VR, changed this game from an interest into an obsession. Thoroughly recommend it.
-
You would hope so, though I saw a 'CODE' button on the Stores page in Wag's update screenshot, which might suggest we're going to get an A-10C style fudge and be able to change the code on the fly using that.
-
Can't check the track but try changing the PRF to HI and see if that makes them appear.
-
Right now all we've got is HE - which is why it takes something like a hundred rounds to kill a BMP. Its a bit silly really - especially when you consider the Huey's 7.62 mini guns do more damage than the Hornet's 20mm in DCS.
-
Wags already said we're getting the finished Maverick 65F in the next Open Beta. Check the mini updates.

What can the F/A-18 do that is feature-complete?
backspace340 replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
They don't work yet - basically just dumb bombs with a new model. -
The Hornet they're modelling for us in DCS will only be able to mount one smart bomb (i.e. GBU-38/32/31 JDAM) per pylon - there is a digital double-pylon (BRU-55) but the US Navy never fitted it to their legacy Hornets in 2005 (or maybe at all), so we're not getting it. Hilariously, the Harrier actually has a digital triple rack which Razbam seems to be planning to offer, so the Harrier will have the advantage with JDAMs too! We'll be able to dual-rack GBU-12/16's on the Hornet using the same racks as they use for the Mk 82s and Mk 83s as they don't need smart racks as the code is changed by the ground crew (though we've not seen how ED will implement that - other modules like the Mirage and F-5 do it via the kneeboard before you start up) So our maximum guided bomb loadout is likely to be 4 GBU-38/32s/31s (possibly 5 if the centre-rack is a smart pylon, but I don't know) or 10 GBU-12s or 9 GBU-16s or 5 GBU-10s.

It's the Hornet's equivalent of the HSD in the F-16, basically allows you to see radar & datalink contacts at the same time as the compass rose and waypoints/bullseye info you'd normally see on the HSI. It may or may not have a function for showing known SAM locations as well (we'll just have to see what ED put in there - I don't think there's much public information on what it can do).
-
Have to admit - I've no idea about the L-39 and whether it works from inside the cockpit with multicrew between pilot and co-pilot. What I know works for sure is being able to see your own pilot's head position from external (i.e. look left and switch to F2, he'll be looking left) and you can see other pilot's heads rotate in MP. If you line up next to a buddy, just ask him to look left/right/up/down and you'll see it. I've had plenty of head shaking/nodding conversations on the flight line in MP.

One of the missions in the campaign has snow on, which seems to really play havoc with the framerate.

I'm all for reality, but to be honest I'd rather you'd waited until we have the HARM or some of the longer range stand off weapons before you got them to remove the G. Losing force correlate has basically halved the useful range of the self-guided Mavs and will make the Hornet a lot less useful when long range SAMs are around.
-
Sounds like he's trying to spin his way out of something someone said before he joined to be honest. They should just put out another public statement if things have changed drastically from what Zeus said (which is understandable and happens all the time), rather than trying to change the meaning of his words after the fact.

You dont want them to update stable with what's been in Open Beta the last month - you either get the early November update that broke the radar elevation to the point of barely being usable or you get the mid November update which was baked too early and has a lot of half-finished stuff in it. It seems like they're waiting till Open Beta actually has a stable version to release before releasing it - which is an approach I think we can all commend. If you want to get your hands on the half-implemented goodies, just switch to open beta.
-
You're in luck - they're making it as an AI first but want to make it playable.
-
Nope the context was very much about it being released, whether they've reset their target in the meantime is another question. Source:

I have a feeling we're not going to - I don't think it was an allowable load. We've got the BRU-41 in-game already, with the practice bombs. Also I believe the 2x Mk84 load was removed because there wasn't actually room for them - they were clipping into the model.
-
They have two different aircraft teams working on projects in parallel. One team is doing the Harrier and F-15, the other is doing the Mig-19 and Mig-23. I don't think they've made it explicit which team the Mirage fits into (but likely the same one as the F-15). They said the F-15 was a matter of months away in mid-2018, so I think it's safe to say they see it as arriving within the next year (or by mid-2019 if you take them at their June/July 2018 word). That said, don't hope/expect anything and you won't be disappointed.

I've made lots of reports and tracks - making them in single player is really easy. Multiplayer is a lot harder - you normally have to start from the ground, cold and dark, you can't always reproduce the exact same circumstances every time, and sometimes the track is ruined either by the server you're on (like DDCS, where none of the tracks can be replayed by ED for some reason) or by things like weather. Not to mention that what you've seen, even if you try to reproduce it as quickly as possible happens nearly 30-45 minutes into a now 50-100mb track file that you've got to find some way of getting uploaded so they can have a look and pinpoint exactly when it happens- only for it to be worthless because of the reasons I've mentioned. Honestly, it's not easy to report issues in MP.

How smart are AI SAM operators - Shoot at RNE or sooner?
backspace340 replied to F1GHTS-ON's topic in General Tutorials
The AI will shoot at max engagement range, but you can adjust the engagement range that they shoot at via a slider in CA (not sure if this is available to mission editors or not!). I.E. You can set an SA-10 down to 40% of its engagement range and it'll effectively only fire within Rne. -
Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
backspace340 replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Are you running Steam or standalone DCS? My own testing with standalone DCS and the Odyssey showed that the SteamVR supersampling had absolutely no effect whatsoever on DCS, the only thing that made a difference was the PD. I'm not sure if it has an effect on Steam DCS. -
Serious Question: DLC and how it will be implemented.
backspace340 replied to IceFire's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Sounds like it's another case of needing a control that we don't really have on modern HOTAS controllers - much like the radar elevation in the Hornet. That works best using something like the mini-stick on the T16K in just the vertical axis (but is a complete waste of a good TDC control if you do) - as it's an axis that springs back to neutral when you let go (like a full-size joystick). -
What isn't clear is if there's a benefit to using NORM over OFF. With OFF, the missiles are still cooled if you're in the air, master arm on, and the AIM-9s are selected. I don't know if that's sufficient for maximum performance or if they need to be cooled for a certain amount of time before the seeker head is in an optimal state. It hasn't been mentioned as part of any official start-up checklists, videos or training missions from what I can see.
-
I've not seen it there - what you can check is your stab trim, 10/11 is what you'll see when you're on speed (when it's settled, if you're moving around lots it will fluctuate a lot more than that).

Apparently the only thing the Hornet can mount on the BRU-42 is the TALD. I don't think it can triple rack bombs.
