  1. Yes it's normal - but you're describing two different things by the way. If you select AIM-9Xs with the radar and HMD off, the seeker doesn't automatically follow the target, you have to place the seeker over the target and then press uncage. What you're describing as behaviour without the HMD is actually behaviour WITH the radar - you're locking the target with radar and then that auto-slaves the 9X to your target. The HMD doesn't use the radar (yet?), so there's no auto-slave. The only difference between using the HMD and not using the HMD is that instead of pressing uncage when you put the seeker over a target, now you have to hold it.
  2. I've spotted a few issues playing with the ACM modes in the new patch. 1. WACQ only works on hot targets, and can't lock anything cold. If you try locking a cold target, the lock drops immediately. 2. VACQ only works on cold targets, and can't lock anything hot. If you try locking a hot target, the lock drops immediately. 3. After 10-20 locks, the lock gets stuck - and can't be dropped by pressing undesignate or turning the radar off (can only drop it by turning more than 70 degrees away from target). Track attached showing all three issues. ACM broken.trk
  3. The Harrier has a TPOD/DMT that can calculate and display range - the Hornet doesn't have a TPOD yet so can't tell us the range.
  4. +1 for a special option for both eyes - it is straining having it in the one eye and it doesn't help the readability. Even without problems in my right eye it can be hard to read in just the one eye - especially with how far away it's projected (and that's with an Odyssey with decent PD), god knows how people are coping with something like the Rift/Vive.
  5. Did you update to latest open beta?
  6. There's a bug in there somewhere - just haven't got time to track it down today. I (and everyone else on the server at the time) couldn't uncage them after a cold start from the boat on TTI, worked fine following the same steps in SP with an airstart. So there seems to be something wrong either starting from the boat, starting cold or just being on multiplayer. Will see if I can work it out tomorrow.
  7. You have to hold uncage a little as well I think - just pressing it didn't do the job.
  8. I have a feeling they're not going to guess at delivery dates any more / for a while, they got burned by a pretty fierce backlash to the JHMCS/65E. We might only find out when things are already finished and ready for the next release.
  9. The sensor FOV is pretty big - as long as you're in the rough area you should be fine. It'll be a lot easier online using the JTACs that pop smoke on targets - in SP the only issue is the JTAC doesn't give the location as lat-long coordinates (or that the Hornet can't input MGRS coordinates yet).
  10. TWS (or LTWS) is still incredibly helpful to fighting with the AIM-7 - being able to track your target and gain speed/altitude information without telegraphing what you're doing before you shoot is a huge tactical boon. It would also give us the ability to IFF targets without hard-locking them, the absence of which is a real handicap in the Hornet right now. It seems like the Hornet had TWS long before it had the AIM-120 (though I might be wrong on that, hard to find concrete dates).
  11. Yeah the left/right DDIs can show red/yellow - it's used on the radar screen to highlight hostiles and your current targets (probably among many other things). Wags has talked about implementing the 'COLOR' option that would enable this (it's currently inoperable in the DATA sub-menu of the radar screen) before - it was on the list for completing RWS that they mentioned in July/August.
  12. I was actually talking about the radar slew mode not being available - Wags just demonstrated the raw seeker head (like if you just select AIM-9s now with no radar ACM modes) slewing with JHMCS. The person I was replying to was talking about slewing the radar with JHMCS - which Wags didn't mention or show. I'm fully expecting us to have available on Weds what Wags demonstrated, but I'm sure there's a lot more functionality still to come down the road.
  13. It didn't sound like we were getting this functionality on Wednesday from Wags' video, so we might have to wait longer for that.
  14. I want both - I want to be able to fire a couple of HARMs/Mavs/JDAMs and then turn around and go toe to toe with SU27s/F15s/Mirage's. If they just concentrated on A2G from here on, the Hornet would just be like a fast A-10C. If they just focused on A2A from here, the Hornet would just be a slow F-15 with some extra gadgets and dumb bombs/rockets. The beauty of the Hornet is in having both - I'd like them to add some more A2A capability in the short term (I mainly just want anything to IFF an enemy without locking it), so that when they add the fancier A2G stuff we can take Hornets into hostile territory to use them.
  15. Those stats aren't stickied in the Discord btw (or in the announcements channel) so it was actually quite tricky to find them! Took me a bit of fishing to find, but it's here for anyone interested: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17swX39OA1w7-TJWcB4y9MvdU7P8hW-FXYor2L9rKysM/edit#gid=1091442815 A human K : D for the Hornet of 0.48 (vs 1.93 for the Eagle) does say a lot. Looks like every blue CAP plane had positive KD (except for the Mig-29 which wasn't flown much) - and the J-11 was way ahead with 3.26.
  16. You're getting the laser maverick on Wednesday.
  17. Shoot down an AWACs from 100nm+ and giggle maniacally.

  19. I'm just going off of Wags' instructions, I haven't measured it in-game - the bombs are set to 1500, so you have to match that with the HT setting in the Hornet, otherwise you'll miss and the drop profile will be wrong. The Rockeyes have anti-tank bomblets, I wouldn't expect much fragmentation damage against infantry (since they got improved they do seem better, I can score kills on multiple Abrams if they're in a tight formation. Check the description of this video where Wags explains what I've summarised:
  20. The bomb always opens at 1500 right now, Wags said they'll introduce different opening heights later - because it always opens at 1500, for an effective drop you have to set the HT setting on the stores page to 1500 to get an accurate drop and you need a certain drop profile to get it to spread properly (from Wags' video, it's from a 20 deg dive, pickling at 2500-3000ft). If you come in too steep or too shallow, it won't spread properly.
  21. Doesn't sound like a very attractive release date to me - if anything goes wrong or if there's any unforeseen bugs you're guaranteed to be working over Christmas, there's no margin for error with the last Friday before Christmas. It also means stable wouldn't get the F-14 till after Christmas day (so they'd not be able to capitalise on pre-Christmas sales for that). I'dve thought if they don't release by mid-December, then you'd be looking at 2019 once everyone's sobered up.
  22. Looking through the thread it seems like this isn't a 'high requested feature' - there's only one person asking for it, you. Can't you just set an alarm for 1:50am, and then land before the 2am cut-off? How do you keep getting caught out by the disconnect when it happens at exactly the same time every night, for years?
  23. More specifically - the JTAC will also give you coordinates of where they are lazing and often they'll pop smoke on the target. So you can use that to put yourself in the rough area (and create a waypoint and WPDSG to put a diamond on the ground), then when you can see the diamond/smoke, uncage the maverick and the seeker will look for the laser energy and lock it, then you can fire.
  24. I honestly don't understand what the big deal is...just keep your head still when clicking buttons? It took about 5 minutes to get used to it and I've never thought about it since.
