I began having this exact issue today with my Index after changing settings in Nvidia CP. I turned on AA to enhance application which turned on 2X AA in the CP, also turned on MFAA. I immediately noticed a shimmer on the base stations in the loading screen. Afterwards, I started getting microstutters like mentioned above. And likewise my Rift used to do this on busy online servers. Now it does it while loaded a mission or loading DCS and in SP I get microstutters. Online I get the tearing where the whole scene freezes and follows my head motion. I reset NvCP to default. No luck. Went to SteamVR stable. No luck. Rolled back Nvidia drive to previous one. No luck. I should have left it alone as it had been rock stable and looking good at 45FPS lol.

I made some recommended settings changes in Nvidia CP, turning on enhance application AA which it sets at 2x and MFAA. Immediately after, I noticed the base stations in the loading screen were shimmering. I saw this the last time I tried AA settings in NvCP but was hoping it had been fixed and worked correctly. However I decided to fly with the settings and see what it looked like in game. Performance went in the gutter and I began getting what normally would be a hard lag spike where the entire scene freezes and turns with your head when looking around. This has happened on my CV1 when on heavy servers like the 107Th TTI. But now it does it even when not online. It's very jerky and also acts like there are tracking issues. I went back to the previous Nvidia driver, went to stable version SteamVR and back to beta but so far nothing has helped. I don't do anything with the Index but DCS so I haven't tried another game. I also deleted FXO and metashader2 but no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

No go for me. In fact I had to switch back to stable again. It seems every time I turn on AA in Nvidia CP It messes up SteamVR. The base stations in the loading screen have jagged edges and ghosting. Then everything looks watery in game and I have flicker and frame tearing where the entire screen turns with me when I turn my head. This used to occasionally happen with the CV1 while on an especially busy 107th TTI server. Though that was usually caused by a lag spike.

i don't think they'll repair them. My understanding is they're no longer supporting the CV1 with replacement parts. You can buy another set on Amazon for $50 which doesn't help your situation.

You may have gotten a bad one as said. Go to SteamVR/Settings/Devices and there is an option to reset after bad firmware upgrade. Try that first. You may have to get SteamVR Beta to have that option though. It could be just a bad flash.

When you go to SteamVR/video tab, where you set the custom resolution it should give you a recommended setting. Mine for instance is 150%. Leave all the other SS options like DCS Application resolution and in game pixel density at 100% or 1.0. Then click the VR preset in DCS settings and try it. As to the blurring and double vision on outside objects that's most definitely helped with motion smoothing on. Turn trees down to 60%, leave all shadows off and no MSAA, motion blur, depth of field or civilian traffic, chimney smoke, cockpit global lighting should all be off.

If I could simply buy one I would. I have no other reason for them other than tweaking SteamVR settings. Do the older Vive Pro controllers work?

Has everyone seen this yet? https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4029616&postcount=16 This would definitely explain some of my issues as I only fly the 18 online and use the hell out of Data Link and the SA page. I haven't confirmed the assertions but will today or tonight, though I've no reason to doubt them.

I had negative LOD bias set to clamp from the CV1. I have no clue what it does, a buddy told me to turn it on. I installed the latest Nvidia driver earlier but didn't change any settings that I previously had enabled. Basically just performance settings. I also got another update from SteamVR to .14. I'm interested in the LOD adjustments though. Sharper is good lol.

Not long after I posted last, I rebooted into Steam beta and immediately got an update to 1.7.13?? I'd changed my settings to try 148/148 posted earlier and turned off MSAA. Wow. Flying the same server, same area but with other guys getting on and more action, rock solid at 45 again and the shimmer was barely noticeable. In fact after about 10 minutes it didn't draw my attention again. Cockpit is clear and I was seeing ground targets much better. I'm going to chalk it up to the new beta for now but I'm happy and not using MSAA. 148 custom res and 148 on DCS App SS. I also noticed reprojection wasn't on when I'd alt tab but that may be normal behavior. Highly recommend trying the new beta.

I swapped back to stable steam after the DCS update and got lower frames. I'm on a private server running TTI with not a lot going on and no one else in with me at the time. Launching out of Bandar Abbas and heading a few miles west where about 12 or 13 vehicles were, I was staying at 30 FPS as much as 45. That's a big hit.

Water shouldn't be a frame killer at all. Nor textures, terrain textures or visibility up to high. Visibility past high to ultra or extreme adds much more that needs to be drawn. The guaranteed frame killers are shadows, terrain shadows, MSAA, Trees, Grass Clutter, AF and cockpit global lighting. I simply don't use shadows or terrain shadows; I've just never liked them. MSAA on the other hand I have to have at 2x. The jaggies in the 18 are bad and as of now that's all I'm flying. Hopefully the Viper won't be so bad and I can turn MSAA off. I never used it until the "VR Optimizations" were released. While it improved my framerates in the CV1, it also introduced jaggies which I had previously not noticed. Anyway, water should cost you nothing. Are you running any mods that may be causing it?

I live on the Texas Gulf Coast so I feel your pain regarding the heat. Not only do we have heat but 90% humidity as well. Luckily, the man cave has a window AC unit next to the PC so it's no longer a serious problem. I also went to an open concept style case. Actually I would call it a display more so than a case but being open it stays much cooler. I didn't get a chance to make any changes last night, I decided to que up some Tool, a mixed loadout of A2A and A2G and blow shit up. Sometimes I forget the goal of all the tweaking is to fly and break things! Lol

The most important reason for turning off HT for me was heat. I can't overclock to 5.1 stable without a couple weeks tweaking it. I'm currently using a Corsair 150i pro and Thermal Grizzly Conductanaut which made a 10c difference. Disabling HT made around a 10C difference as well though and I'm hesitant to go back. Like you though, having smooth frames is a bigger priority than eye candy but those damn jaggies drive me nuts lol. I'm surprised your using 150/138. I thought 148/138 got the closest to native resolution? Since I can't help my self I'll try the above settings as well. Can't hurt but it needs a be a noticeable difference in smoothness for me to enable HT.

One base station was not enough for me. I would lose tracking while checking six and ended up buying another. That said most reports say one is fine.

I've had mine for two weeks now. No issues whatsoever.

As a twenty year flyer of that other Viper sim I hear Microprose and drool lol. Competition spurs creativity and hopefully that will be the case here. I was very impressed to find that ED had native support for VR when I started flying it. Prior to that my only experiences with ED were Flanker 2.0 (good) and LockOn (no comment). Therefore, even though I miss the dynamic environment of my old sim, I feel ED is the future. If they would only stop putting their foot in their mouth.

Lol having the same basic specs as you I shake my head at the fact we can't get what we want out of DCS. It always comes down to DCS only using 1 CPU and 2 threads. And to Brixmis; did I offend?? This has been a very collegial conversation since I joined a couple weeks back. Well, except for my typos ;)

I'm not a fan of cockpit shadows. To me they look jagged or out of sync and haven't been worth the frame hit. The terrain shadows I don't mind as I never really notice them when they're on or off but again I do notice the frame hit. The shimmering is an immersion killer for me as wel; can't deal with the jaggies. I would say my big 3 goals with all this tweaking of the Index are: cockpit visual clarity, outside the pit visual clarity when spotting and smooth frame rates regardless of refresh rate. I'll sacrifice the pretty features and eye candy to achieve those goals. I fly exclusively online so connection speeds have to be taken into context when talking smooth frames as well. Along with DCS fixing whatever has caused the frame drop over the last few patches, I think we'll continue to see improvements from SteamVR as they continue to tweak the driver. Just getting Steam to function as well as Oculus home would make a huge difference.

I'm going back and forth between 204% and the rest 100% and 148% custom resolution/138% DCS application. DCS settings. Textures high, terrain textures high, water high, visibility high, civil traffic off, shadows off, everything else on the left column off except FSAA @ 2x. Grass Clutter 180 (really low), trees 80%, preload maxed 150,000, chimney smoke off, gamma at 1.6. AF @ 16x, terrain shadows off, cockpit global lighting off, rain drops on and full screen on. I thinks that all of them. I'm not at my computer lol. These are the same settings I've kept from my CV1. However, with it I used OTT to set ASW to 45 and SS to 1.6. In DCS I dropped PIxel Density to .5.
-
I can't get past the shimmer but I'll try 80Hz again as I use 90Hz.
-
I use OB exclusively but the only ghosting or "flittering" is on the canopy hoop or if I'm on the ground and it's busy. But that's after flying for some time. I'll get ghosting if I'm over a lot of trees and rolling the aircraft but it goes away immediately after I look at a less busy part of the screen.
-
Yep, I'm getting the exact same behavior but at 90Hz. My gfx card doesn't go over 68c and CPU doesn't break 65c. I've begun rebooting my computer before starting a session hoping to clear out anything that may be taking up resources. With this latest beta I've experienced the best visual quality and smoothness since purchase, whether at 204% custom res and everything else at 100% or at 138% DCS Application SS and 148% custom resolution. It looks and feels beautiful at the beginning but steadily degrades as I continue flying exhibiting the above mentioned behavior.

My track folder had 13GB! Lol deleted. However, I simply made an autoexec.cfg file and put that line in it but I'm still creating tracks on MP servers. Is there something specific that needs to be done in the creation of the file?
