Nahemoth, I'll get a screen shot for you this evening. Supmua, Imacken, the Harrier is by far the best looking pit in VR. It's gorgeous. I'm beginning to think my Index is having issues and is why the Viper seems dark. The Index has been getting hot to the point the eye relief frame is almost burning me. I reported it to support and will see what they say.

F-16 Versus F-18 Ease Of Learning & Control?
Wicked.- replied to Zulu111's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Viper is easier to fly because of the FBW system. It's almost always rock stable with only slight trim needed at times. The Hornet has a digital fly by wire system as well but not to the extent of the Viper. The Hornet feels like a traditional stick and rudder aircraft needing to be trimmed more often and is more prone to oscillating in pitch. They're both fun to fly but the Hornet takes more skill and effort to do really well. The Hornet is infinitely maneuverable at slow speeds but is anemic when it comes to thrust. The Viper is a hot rod and with the current flight model can climb to over 30,000 without dropping below 330 knots. The Hornet bleeds speed at high G's, while the Viper can power through high G turns. When fleshed out and complete the Viper has the best HOTAS setup of any jet barring the F-22 and F-35. The 3 master modes on the Dogfight switch configure weapons, sensors and displays for each mode once set, every time. The Hornet presents more information at once with three displays as opposed to 2 displays in the Viper. The problem is you can't switch easily from AA to AG while retaining a common set up. Easily anyway.. The Viper and the Hornet come from the same Airforce request for a new low cost, dogfighter back in the 60's when the Airforce had almost completely eliminated the gun in jets. After getting their clocks cleaned in Vietnam compared to the Korean War, the "Fighter Mafia" demanded a jet that could out Dogfight anything in the sky. The Viper won but the Navy took the Hornet for a smaller lower cost carrier fighter. I'm a Viper fan. Period. It's a blast to fly and even though it was designed as a dogfighter, it's the multirole king. You WEAR the cockpit which is raked back 30 degrees like a recliner of death. It has a bubble canopy with no obstructions. It's the Lambo of the sky. I own both and while I'd recommend the Viper the Hornet is much farther along and and will teach you how to fly a fighter well. The Hornet can carry much more armament as well. -
The target box in the HUD on locked targets in MRM mode is lagging behind changes in azimuth of the contact and the movement of my jet. . It's not getting data quickly enough to give a realtime reference of the contact. It will just stop moving. Once I stop maneuvering the box snaps to where the contact is if it still in your HUD. If it's not in your HUD it just breaks lock. I hope I explained that right!

It's definitely getting better fuel consumption than it should. I flew on our wing server with no bags and six slammers. Left out of Khasab flew to Bandar Abbas engaged a couple bandits, defended against 2 SA10 shots that took me back down to about 50 feet, climbed back up for another engagement, dove back down dodging sams, climbed back up for a last engagement and flew back to Khasab from Bandar Lengah. I had 3,000 pounds left when I landed lol. I started with 7200. I'm not complaining as it is what it is and I'm happy to have the jet but it's a bit off.

It's blurry/fuzzy in my Index. No idea why.

I so wanted to have my F16SGRH but they're still building it and are probably busy with the Viper launch. I know my buddy picked up an FSSB3L. The settings I have for the 18 on the FSSB3 were WAY too stiff for the Viper. I'm having to tweak them now. Like you I fly side stick and it's perfect. Can't understand why it looks worse than the 18 though. It's fuzzy is the best way to explain it. Time to tweak again..

It's definitely not as sharp in the Index. The MFD's have to almost be zoomed in to make out clearly. I'm ok with the size of the pit at 57 IPD and in fact it looks perfect to me. If you've read Vipers in the Storm the cockpit and bubble canopy are described as riding on the end of a pencil. You WEAR the cockpit. That said, My Index reminds me of my CV1 and the aliasing is awful. I turned on MSAA to 2x and it had no effect, either on aliasing or frame rates which tells me MSAA isn't working either.
-
Did anyone get the Viper today besides me? It's very blurry to me and aliased. I turned on MSAA to 2x and it doesn't seem to make a difference. My buddy says his Index looks great. Mine has been getting warmer than normal the last few days and I'm getting worried about it.

As far as FSSB force sensing stick bases go the FSSB3 Lighting is the newest. The F16SGRH is an F-16 grip than can be used with a base or on its own as it has built in sensors for pitch, roll and yaw axis. You do NOT have to put your Warthog stick PCB in the FSSB3. You have that option if (like Chief said) you want to use your Warthog stick and throttle with Target. The only thing you need for the FSSB3 Lighting is your Warthog grip. If you don't use target, you can buy the 18 grip and have a whole other setup with the Warthog base. If you plan to get the F16SGRH do not get the angle adapter. Unlike the Warthog grip, the F16SGRH is already angled forward. If you are using your Warthog grip, buy the angle adapter..

It still doesn't make any sense. Why is CPU usage lower for VR?? It should be lower for a monitor and higher for VR. Probably need to get a screen shot of PL while in VR and in 2D to see what all is running.

The actual DMS cap that your thumb rests on is held by friction. I took the entire switch out, unscrewed the central shaft from the spring retainer on the back side of the switch. Then I removed the DMS and shaft completely and used tweezers to separate the cap from the shaft. It takes a good amount of pressure and you make break off the retainer if you simply force it off without disassembly. -
OK, have you tried flying DCS on your monitor with high settings and watched hardware monitor? I'd be interested to know if your CPU utilization is still low without VR.

The last 10-20 pages have a lot of good info and different approaches to achieving a balance of quality and FPS performance. Also, some put emphasis on quality visuals, sacrificing some frames per second while others prefer the opposite. The easiest thing to try is go with the SteamVR recommended resolution setting for your system, leave everything else in SteamVR settings at default and select VR settings in DCS settings page, then start moving your pixel density up in the VR tab. RCNTL PAUSE pulls up your FPS counter and with that, fly an instant action free flight. Dubai seems to be the killer. Big frame rate killers are MSAA, Shadows (both kinds), Pixel Density. Medium frame killers, Trees (start at 80%) view distance (or whatever it's called, start at high), chimney smoke, grass clutter and cockpit global lighting. Things I've not had a use for are Depth of field, SSAA (has no effect in VR) heat blur, motion blur, civilian traffic. All the other options on the settings page set high or greater. I'm done tweaking and as happy as I'll get on my system without new VR optimizations either in DCS or SteamVR. Valve has been on it when it comes to tweaking SteamVR and it has become as seamless to me as Oculus home was on my CV1. Just keep at it.

Also, download the new HID software from Realsimulator if you haven't. It's for all of their products in one application.

I may have just squeed lol!

Fair enough. For me the real world numbers I saw when I benched it compared to my 1080Ti did not justify $1,300. I increased by minimum frames per second by 8. That's $162.50 per frame. As to the 8700 you would know best as I don't have one. Lastly, the only thing I do with this computer is fly DCS and run associated programs, Discord, SRS and the like. So, I'm not getting that 15-20% that others using 4KUHD monitors are. But, if you have an Index you should at some point get a 2080Ti.
-
The FSSB3L will NOT integrate with the Cougar board. It will integrate with the Cougar stick GRIP only. It Will integrate with the Warthog board, however I see no reason I'd ever want it to. I don't use TARGET for DCS and that would be the only reason to do so. Once my F16SGRH arrives my Warthog will be a backup.

I notice you are running your 8700 @ 4.8Ghz. Is that all you're able to squeeze out of it? I would try getting it up to 5.0 or 5.1Ghz first before spending $1200-1400 bucks. If you can get a stable overclock at those speeds you will see a noticeable increase in FPS. 3 months ago I would have said an upgrade from a 1080ti to an RTX2080Ti was pointless. I saw an increase of only 8 FPS when I upgraded my Zotac Amp 1080ti Extreme, which ran at 1.9ghz to the Asus RoG Strix RTX2080Ti OC, which also runs at 1.9Ghz. I was not a happy dude.... At the time I was still using my CV1 and had just sent a Pimax 5k+ back. Fast forward to today and I do not think I would be getting the same stable performance from the Index with my 1080Ti. While the RTX cards don't specifically address VR, are not faster than the 1080Ti's, they are however built to push 4KUHD resolution at high frame rates. The Index needs a lot of muscle to run at it's native resolution. I don't remember what that resolution is but it boils down to setting custom resolution in SteamVR video tab to 204% or 148% and setting SteamVR DCS Application SS to 138%. Once you're able to run that solidly then you're on to MSAA and shadows if that's you're thing........ Needless to say, these will require even more muscle to run at 40 or 45 FPS consistently. So to sum up.. 1. Try and OC your 8700 to 5.0 or 5.1Ghz and if successful 2. Upgrade to a 2080Ti

FSSB3 Lighting settings for HID tool by plane
Wicked.- replied to Wicked.-'s topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I set saturation for X to 90% and kept the above settings. It's perfect now. -
Your CPU usage is extremely low and I have no idea why but I'm pretty sure that's your cause for stuttering. Im out of things to try honestly. On one hand you're getting 100% GPU usage but on the other hand your CPU is 50%. It's not like your CPU is any faster than a 9900K and 50% is all it takes to run the GPU at 100%. I'm stumped..
-
I'm not having those symptoms at all, especially in SP. I would expect to see less than 100% usage on your GPU if your CPU usage is low but that's obviously not the case. You can see where cores 2, 4 and 7 are over 90% on my system. However, I did not set affinity to those cores. I simply set real time priority for DCS.exe, vrcompositor and vrserver. What background apps do you have running? I notice your system will drop back to 800Mhz. I would go into bios and set your base clock to 50x on all cores all the time. Do not let it drop back down.

Thank you sir! The castle DMS is fantastic! Love the feel. -
This was just now. You definitely have a bottleneck somewhere.
-
Our specs are so close I honestly can't say what would be causing your issue. The fact you can't get your GPU higher than 76% sounds like a throttling or bottleneck issue. I'll run a quick test using the free flight instant action with the 18 and monitor the usage of CPU and GPU.
