Gday sub, I think that’s the problem. It appears model viewer looks at both but the game only looks at spec. Hence the difference in the same files as shown in pics in post one. Hopefully they can change that (and put people in there while they’re at it)

Re-posted from AI thread. I've started working on the B-17G skin in the hope one day it will have people actually flying in it. What I'm hoping to achieve is a (newer) more natural aluminium finish than the stock standard game finish. I know people will argue that is what they looked like. But at the moment they really do look like they have come out of the factory with a coat of dull, worn out gull grey. The problem I'm having is the skin in Model Viewer 2 is not like that in game. I vaguely remember there being something mentioned that it may be a problem with the lack of a roughmet file but I can't confirm this. I'm using diffuse, spec & norm file & have them all selected correctly in the description.lua I've played around with different RGB on both the spec & norm file and while it sometimes has disasterous effects I just can't quite get it to give a more shiny aluminium appearance. It almost appears that there is another file somewhere overiding the spec & normal file when in game. Any ideas will be appreciated. Model Viewer 2: very close to the final finish I'm looking for. What it looks like in game: boring non-reflective gull grey

Gday madwax, are you using open beta? i've gone back to the current stable version and it doesn't work. good to hear that you've found a work around though. this is something that was able to be done with MV1. just to clarify, are you modifying the autoexec.lua file in the eagle dynamics>dcs worls>congig>modelveiwer folder then copying it to the edmodelvierwer2 folder? or did you mean just create a lua file with a single line as in 2) in your post?

Hi Guys, I've been reading along in the shadows & have a learnt of few things I didn't know. Re: the skin and the texture not matching the panel lines etc. I took some time a while ago to try a remedy the problem somewhat. It's not a completed file & far from perfect but it's a start. The files are in two parts on the DCS download section. They are PDF's and there are several layers. From the discussion I have seen here you all should be very able to use them. Front Section https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305793/ Tail Section https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305794/ Also re: the rotor blades. Firstly, I don't think you can get a different colour on the top or bottom or even a different colour on each blade. A shame, as I would like to do a skin that has one blade black and the other white. If you need a reference for painting the blades check out another one of my skins. It also shows a modified tail rotor. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303919/ If you're bored check out some other files I've done helles belle

Hi to all, This is how I have gotten the modified cockpit files to work for me. Find where the A-4E-C aircraft Mod file has been located. This is generally where you place it after downloading the mod from github. What I have done, like most users as I am aware, is I have then saved that mod folder, A-4E-C, to the SAVED GAMES folder in the following folder: Local Disk ( C: )>Users>[Your Pc Name]>Saved Games>DCS>Mods>aircraft Locate the A-4E-C folder and open it. Open the Cockpit folder. Open the Texture folder. The folder tree should now look something like this Local Disk ( C: )>Users>[Your Pc Name]>Saved Games>DCS>Mods>aircraft>A-4E-C>Cockpit>Textures In the Texture folder you should see 6 zip folders. This is where the original cockpit background images were sourced from. You do not need to do anything with the zip folders but feel free to look at their contents. Now go back to where you placed the ‘Tiger’ skin folder that you downloaded from DCS Downloads User Files. Most users save it to their saved games folder: Local Disk ( C: )>Users>[Your Pc Name]>Saved Games>DCS>Liveries>A-4E-C>RAAF 2 Sqn 053 ‘Viveca’ Tiger In the file that you downloaded that I put on DCS there should be the following 12 files: a-4e_boards_1.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_1.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_2.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_3.dds a-4e_instr_details_1.dds instr_panel.dds description.lua RAAF Bottom.dds RAAF DFT150_DFT300.dds RAAFDFT400.dds RAAF Top.dds RAAFPic.png Copy the following 6 files: a-4e_boards_1.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_1.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_2.dds a-4e_instr_bckgd_3.dds a-4e_instr_details_1.dds instr_panel.dds Now go back to the Cockpit>Texture folder @: Local Disk ( C: )>Users>[Your Pc Name]>Saved Games>DCS>Mods>aircraft>A-4E-C>Cockpit>Textures And paste those files there. You should now see those files along with the zip folders. Restart the game and please let me know how you go as I really would like to get the cockpit textures working as they make it a lot easier to see the instruments. As I have said though this is what worked for me and the above locations are how I have DCS configured for SAVED GAMES & Mods. Other users may be different. This was also something that I found by accident. I am still trying to find a work around in a lua file so the files do not have to be moved to the cockpit texture folder. When placed in the cockpit texture folder they change all A-4E-C cockpits. Your Local Disk may be different to C:

Hi morpheus, I got a message from one user, (might be who you are posting on behalf of) I’ll get around to a more detailed message tomorrow. But just quickly, the dds files need to be copied to a cockpit texture folder at this stage. They don’t automatically install or work the same as the skin files. I’m still working on the lua file to try and make that happen. (re: post #191]

Should be up for download soon

To expand on the above. Here's what I'm starting with. I can get it to work if I put the cockpit instrument files into the Mod folder. But I want to be able to put them in the aircraft skin folders so I can package them for distribution. The files I'm working on so far are: a-4e_instrbckgd_1.dds a-4e_instrbckgd_2.dds a-4e_instrdetails_1.dds Still looking for the file with the flap indicator.

I'm in the process of making the instruments more visible under natural light. does any one know what to script in the skin description.lua to make it look at the .dds file?

Looks like a fun job. I’m flat out for a few weeks but I’ll give it a go when I can, unless someone else beats me to it. Keep posting whatever pics you have, the more the better, especially close ups of nose art etc. The one of the ace card is particularly good. Are they your models? And do you have any preference for markings (numbers, name etc) Here’s some examples. Kim always trying to improve them so these may have changed some what. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305708/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3306355/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3306354/

I had the same issue as well. Try pulling up gently as you release, that eleviated the problem a little but anything in a straight line they would explode, especially SE.

That”s right, that’s them.
