Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
Helles Belle replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Thanks @jonsky7 you’re a champion. I’ll have a look at those and see how I go. -
Re: the VHF Freq's etc. I sort of figured it out (complicated to explain - for me). But it works enough that I don't have to look down at the panel. Except for the VHF Nav Com, still working on that one. Having a go at the Spitfire & Bf-109 while I'm at it.

I find the pitching up after takeoff associated with the gear. You’ll really notice the opposite during approach when you put the gear down it pitches down. Same with the flap. As @philstyle said don’t use flaps for take off and try using only 10-12 boost. I have the nose down & rudder right trim mapped to two buttons side by side on the keyboard. I find if you press both until nose trim indicates 1 unit UP, the rudder trim will be right for takeoff. Slowly bringing the power up to 10-12 boost it almost lifts off the ground by itself and flies away.

Like @Hornetjock and I guess most people I have the trims mapped to the stick. I also have the nose down & rudder right trim mapped to two buttons side by side on the keyboard. I find if you press both until nose trim indicates 1 unit UP, the rudder trim will be right for takeoff. Slowly bringing the power up to 10-12 boost it almost lifts off the ground by itself and flies away. I also find the trim rate better now. I think slower you are able to finesse the trim to a point where minimal input is required for straight & level. At other times I’ll just use rudder to keep it balanced and hold elevator & aileron as required. Now if only they would fix the trim rate on the Bf-109, that is way to quick.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
Helles Belle replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
I’ve been reading everything I can & playing around with LUA’s (mainly the monitor setup) But I still can’t find what I’m after. I’m running 2 monitors (left & right) both 1920x1080. Left is used for the main screen Right is currently used for LEFT & RIGHT MFCD’s. I have the current monitor lua setup that it sees both screens as one. Therefore the ‘game screen’ starts at 0x0, the left MFCD @ 1920x0 & right @ 2880x0. I have been looking at using something like Ikarus, mainly for the WWII stuff, but would like to use it for the modern stuff as well hopefully. Ikarus has a lot of pre-built screens to choose from for most of the aircraft, but obviously the MFCD’s for most are in different positions. E.g. A-10C vs AV-8. I thought there was a way to modify the monitor lua so it had a default position for the MFCD’s i.e. both ½ screen of 2nd monitor but you could stipulate that if you were in the A-10 the MFCD’s would be positioned in a custom position. Swap to the Harrier or F-16 then the MFCD’s could be in another position accommodating the positioning of the Ikarus screen. For example, I want to start by moving the A-10 & AV-8 as below but every other aicraft stay on the right monitor as 1/2x1/2. A-10 Left MFCD to start at 1990x170 and be 360x360 Right MFCD to start at 3415x170 and be 360x360 AV-8 Left MFCD to start at 2085x365 and be 415x415 Right MFCD to start at 3240x365 and be 415x415 I’m not sure if there is something that I should be adding after UIMainView etc. in the monitor lua. Ikarus.lua -
Hi @Stefan1208 Are other modules & panels working? ALSO, for those that may have already done it. I am trying to put a VHF freq readout panel on the UH-1H. (much like the VHF readout for the A-10C down the bottom right) Is it possible to do this. I have had some numbers respond but nothing that makes sense. Thankyou.

Struggling mightily in dogfighting
Helles Belle replied to jasonstory44's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Gday @Steda, It sounds like you're on the right path. There is good information in this and other threads to help you out. Learning to fly the girl first is obviously the right way to go and it appears you are doing well there. Next thing, learning how to fight. Personally I don't use the instant action missions etc. I would start with building a very simple mission in ME with just you and one other enemy. I find in a situation with multiple enemy, they all seem to know I'm not AI and I end up with all of them on my tail. Give the enemy a low skill level and see how you go. Gradually work your way up skill levels and see how you go. Then you can add a bit of complexity with 2on2 etc. (just dont tell your wing man to "Cover me" they'll shoot everything down before you do, do that later when you need them to) Keep, your A/C energy up. Dont get too slow and stay out of a hard turning fight to start with. If you get behind the enemy, hold off the temptation to pull the trigger and start firing. Follow them for a while and see what they do. Learn how the AI reacts. Also, get closer, I know the guns are set for 300 yards, but I subscribe to Erich Hartmanns rule, get in close. (+ it looks better watching stuff get blown off the other A/C) Practice with shooting at Ju-88's in small numbers as well, start with no more than three. Mix up the angles you attack with to get a good idea of deflection shooting, and the perspective and size of the A/C in you windsheild etc so you have an idea of how much lead to give. This will help with dogfighting against fighters as well. Before long you'll be doing it in your sleep, flying back to base, reloading (hopefully not repairing) and back out again for another mission. Most of all "Stick with it" Cheers HB -
+1 Ground units are not re-arming. I set up a single unit, Grad, had it 'Fire at Point' in advanced settings. The unit fires all its munitions once, then goes back into 'Standby'. If you enter the unit it shows 'Depleted' munitions. You can start a reload if you like, other wise the unit remains empty. I would assume expected behaviour reload and keep firing at the selected point, unles ROUNDS EXPEND is checked & amount specified. It doesn't matter if the unit is at an airfield or out bush with a supply vehicle. I just ran a CA mission that comes with DCS - Advance on Ozurgetu. I've played this mission a few times and you could always set the MLRS to fire multiple times. Even after one fire now it does not re-arm.
-
Ah Ok, so you want something in game. ME to be more precise. Yeah, I know what you mean, it is a pain at the moment. The unit viewing window on bottom right is tiny for my old eyes. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the game once have a view of the unit (aircraft in particular) where the stores selection window is and the you could actually see the aircraft with the stores attached AND the chosen livery. (Or was I just drinking heavily back then)
-
Do you mean like using Model Viewer? Do you want to have a view of the aircraft and just flick through all the liveries regardless of nationality?

reported SCUD Missiles impact location offset from assigned target
Helles Belle replied to Aarnoman's topic in Weapon Bugs
I thought 2nm was good. In fact the SCUD had such a bad reputation we nicknamed a guy I used the fly with ‘The SCUD”, every time he took off you never knew where he would land. (You can never have too much fuel, unless you are on fire) -
+1. Started happening after latest update. I find you need to dip the nose when you want to fire to align the sights. Otherwise it goes bezerk.
-
When I go to Aircraft Modules it only shows the 2 free modules as green (Su-25T & TF-51) If I check the modules I own & select 'Install Seleted Modules' it goes thru what appears to be an install of the selected modules but they still show up red. This is also the same for the installed terrains, WWII asset pack & CA that I own.
-
I feel ya pain, and totally agree with you. This is why I love my iPad.
-
Cannot rearm refuel in game. Other modules work Ok. Have tried several maps - same problem. No response from ground crew at all. Doors open etc. Preset loads do not show up in rearm window.

Fresh DCS World Install - Second Drive
Helles Belle replied to Helles Belle's topic in Payment and Activation
Thanks Rudel, I think I might have a go at copy and paste, change whatever needs to be changed registry/location wise and see how it goes. Quick query though, if deactivation/activation doesn’t matter why do they show up on the DCS site under all licences? Or is that just a hang over from Star Force? HB. -
I am getting a new SSD to use just for DCS (and another flight sim when I get it) – let’s call it drive D: What I want to do is a complete fresh install of DCS to drive D:, NOT a copy & paste. I am obviously happy with the install part to the new drive etc. Windows 10 will remain on the old drive for now – drive C: What I want to know is: 1. Do I have to deactivate the paid modules before re-installing DCS? (I was going to leave the current version on drive C: until the new install is working as I want) 2. If required how do I deactivate the modules so I don’t use up my activations? I read DCS’s page Home > Support > Technical questions > Some activation problems. How can I deactivate the products (modules) in order not to lose the available activations? (but it says, only for users with version 1.5.8 ) I looked at the Module Manager > Installed in game and it has two choices for the installed modules. (See attached pic) 1. Enable/Disable Module 2. Delete Module Do either of these need to be actioned before/after installing the fresh game on D: drive?

Seeking Shark Mouth Perfection for the A-10C :)
Helles Belle replied to freelancer2011's topic in Liveries/Skinning
Have a look at this paint. It should get you started. From memory the originals didn’t have some of it painted so I redid them. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3300836/ This isn’t the same mouth as you’re doing but hopefully gets you going in the right direction. -
Seeking Shark Mouth Perfection for the A-10C :)
Helles Belle replied to freelancer2011's topic in Liveries/Skinning
It’s hidden on one of the other dds files. I’ll have a look tomorrow but I can say it’s not on the A file. From memory it’s in the top right area of maybe the B or C. Edit: it got the better of me. It’s on the C file top right about 1/5 the way down. Look for two long parts with a line of screws/rivets on each. -
Thanks mate! She’s ready for a closer look now. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3311375/
